Out of the Woods is the first solo album from Tracey Thorn for over two decades. The British public probably know Thorn best as the voice of Everything but the Girl's "Missing," the Todd Terry mix of which hit No. 3 in 1994 and hung around in the Billboard Top 100 for over a year. That huge hit, however, is somewhat deceptive in the context of Thorne and her partner Ben Watt's 25-year career. Out of the Woods, like much Everything but the Girl before it, is a set of torch songs versed in the production techniques of clubland, but shot through with a melancholy soul more familiar to jazz or folk-rock--or, indeed, cosmic disco pioneer Arthur Russell, whose "Get Around to It" Thorne covers here, and all but makes it her own. Lyrically, events hint at a certain domesticity: "Nowhere Near" is a delicate song about motherhood sung over shimmering synths, piano, and pipes, while "Hands Up to the Ceiling" seems to be about finding sanctuary in a record collection, Thorne sneaking to an attic to spin "Siouxsie Sioux, and Edwin too/Bobby D, in '63." Those eager for Thorn to reprise "Missing," however, maybe be satisfied by "Grand Canyon" and the closing "Raise the Roof," two potential club hits in the waiting. --Louis Pattison

a masterpiece of pop music...........2007-06-23
I can't say enough great things about this album. I've always been a huge fan of Tracey Thorn's voice, and EBTG, and this has become one of my absolute favorite albums. Don't miss this!
Return to form for Tracey Thorn.......2007-06-10
Worth the wait ! Its great to hear a singer who doesn't need to try too hard to own her own space, and add to this the vision and talent to effortlessly switch between basic acoustic arrangements and electronic house.
Listen to this a few times to realise that simple pop songs will always find a way of lodging themselves in your brain. Stand out tracks include 'Its All True', 'Easy', 'Raise the Roof', and the superb club anthem (to be) 'Grand Canyon' ....which demands a Deep Dish remix. My only request is that we dont have to wait so long for the next album !
more sophisticated electronica..........2007-06-05
Tracey Thorn has been on the cusp of the electronic music scene since I first started paying attention to her in the mid-nineties. This album is no exception. The music sounds very fresh, though owes a heavy debt to the revived "electro" sound, now very much in vogue. I'm happy she mostly steers clear of overly predictable "House" beats in lieu of a slightly left-field sound. Regardless, the bass runs deep, the synths are sexy and Thorn's voice still haunts. This a very good album.
Out On Her Own.......2007-06-01
It took a while, over 20 years to be exact, for Thorn to put out what is only her second solo album. Out of the Woods is expectedly electronic but contains great references to an era we so love called the 80s. Therefore, in between the electronic bleeps and reverberations, there is an irresistible air of familiarity in the catchy retro hooks as demonstrated in the fantastic first single It's All True. Stylish yet reminiscent, the single is a perfect oath to the 80s dance floor. Other glorious tracks include the UNKLE-influenced Easy, the more futuristic EBTG-electro track Grand Canyon and the cooing closer Raise The Roof. A welcome break from the front woman of EBTG. (A)
Lovely!.......2007-05-24
Absolutely charming, brialliant, stunning. More like the transition EBTG than their recent drum 'n' bass stuff (which I also love).
Tracy Thorn's voice is truly a voice sent from heaven.

Album Description
Following up from last year's hugely successful 'inthemix.05' album (by Tiga and Ajax) comes the 2006 version - and inthemix are thrilled to have the awesome talents of UK DJ and producer Ben Watt (Buzzin' Fly Records, Everything But The Girl) as the headline act. Reprising his role as one of deep house's most forward-looking international DJs, Ben will be sharing his modernist underground hits. Expect a unique dancefloor journey through mean and sultry house peppered with warm pulsing minimal techno, off-ramp vocals and taut Berliner beats. The local representative for the CD will be Melbourne's Ivan Gough, one of Australia's most accomplished dance music exports. His work in the studio, both solo and as half of TV Rock, has delivered tracks and remixes that are played by DJs all around the world. He'll be sharing his legendary track-selection skills and impressive crate favourites. Ivan reveals another side of his musical persona (and a move away from the TV Rock sound); this release is an eclectic, classy and altogether unexpected mix.

Customer Reviews:
okay but the first two were better.......2007-06-21
i enjoy this, but when given the choice between all three in the buzzin' fly trilogy, i prefer the first two. the third disc just isn't as memorable. i strongly recommend volume 2.
Another fine addition to the Buzzin' Fly Series.......2006-12-01
I loved the first volume, played it til it wore out. I think it's hard to find good deep house mix CDs that have a consistently good track selection. Ben Watt's mix CDs seem though to fit that mould perfectly from start to finish. His live mixes are just as good. I highly recommend this CD for lovers of fine deep house music. If you liked the others in the series, then you should love this. His website has extensive samples of each album and some of the live mixes if you're unconvinced and want to listen further. This one's a low risk purchase.
Don't pass this one up.......2006-10-05
This album almost has it's own genre. It is as if trance and techno met a rock like beat. I slept on this album at first but got lost in it on a second listen. This is about as far away from deep dish as you can get without passing out of the techno genre. Tracks 2, 3 & 7 are all hot.
The Buzz About #3.......2006-08-14
I was waiting for this cd for a while now. I have enjoyed all the previous Buzzin' Fly and Lazy Dog releases. As usual, this disc lives up to the hype and delivers a sound that is current yet ahead of the rest. This cd has a more electronic/techno feel but it still works and has the Buzzin' Fly sound. Mr. Watts continues give us cds that are organic, funky and keeps evolving.
Ben Watt delivers again.. and again.........2006-08-03
let me start out by saying that trying to top one of the BEST house/lounge albums EVER released (Buzzin' Fly vol. 2) is no easy matter. when i found out Vol 3 was coming out, i thought to myself "it won't even come close to being as good as vol.2, i know it" simply becuase vol.2 is a masterpiece to say the least.
with that said, immediately after listening to Vol.3, all i could do was stand and applaud -- Ben Watt should take a bow. there is no doubt he's one of the best in the industry, and with his latest addition to the Buzzin' Fly series, you can clearly see why. He always brings something new, something different. just when u think you got his music figured out, he throws a spin on it, and you love it more.. as everyone who listens to this kind of music knows, most of the tracks on his albums you probably won't like the first time you listen to them... but after a week, you couldn't pay someone to try and get the tunes out of your head. Absolutely mesmerizing, from begining to end. Just hit play and let Ben take you on a journey...
It's impossible to try and pick a best track or two here, but Kayot's "Clear Sky" (track 4) and Watt's "Attack Attack Attack" (track 7) are the first songs to stick out. Solid, solid tracks.. you just cant stop listening to them, and when you do it's hard not to get up and dance, they take control. He chills it out with tracks 10 and 12 (Madoka's "Metamotional" and Jimpster's "Square Up") which take you to a totally different level.. a 'happy' place where nothing can go wrong. He finishes off with Lephtee's "So Far Back(Phonique Remix Edit)" -- Classic, classic Ben Watt. not much more i can say there.
This album is just as good as its predecessor, very Highly recommended. A must-buy for every deep house/lounge lover. Ben Watt continues to bless us with his divine music..

On former Minutemen and Firehose bassist Mike Watt's second "solo" outing (he's joined by guitarist Nil Cline and drummer Stephen Hedges), the idea of a punk-rock opera (his words) or concept album (critic's term) doesn't seem so outrageous. Paying homage to his dad's life on the San Pedro, California, waterfront and to the late D. Boon, the now quasi-mythic Minutemen singer-guitarist, Watt covers as much musical ground as he does personal history. Solid tracks such as "Black Gang Coffee" and "The Blue Jackets Manual" are fine nods to the playful punk punch of the Minutemen, and chiming guitars with a sea-shanty feel permeate "In the Engine Room." A churning psychedelic energy drives "Liberty Calls," while "Breaking the Choke Hold" serves as a contemplative and sad farewell. A pleasant, intimate listening experience, all told. --Lorry Fleming

Three different journeys at once.......2006-11-03
This is an album worth getting to know. Pieces will stick in your head after a few listens. This trio playing on the album really make interesting use of space and texture while backing up Mike Watt's surreal, yet heartfelt story-telling. Nels Cline's guitar-playing adds a fervor to the rhythm skeletons who sway and dance from song to song. The percussion is full of dramatic nuances and emulations of ship sounds and other bells and whistles. Very solid. This all adds up to a theme, and a very interesting one indeed. Listen for the subtle musical references from old Minutemen (Watt's initial band) songs and riffs. Characters from that era are referenced from that era, as well: particularly the great D. Boon. Give this one a chance and enjoy!
Unexpectedly charming.......2003-03-02
This album caught me by surprise with its charm. The songs are short and interesting (Nels Cline is a surperbly original guitarist), and the personal nature of the songs is compelling. The album sounds quite a bit like a Minuteman album - the production is simple & effective, and the guitar playing is inventive. Some of the more experimental songs work very well, though I deduct one star because the last couple of songs are not compelling at all.
set the space for an explorative course.......2002-02-14
An album of shifting depths, not unlike the waters of this nautical-themed offering from Mike Watt--Contemplating the Engine Room. given as I've had more time than usual to whirl this disk, I've been given the allowance to hear its musical definition. Along with Watt's gruff yet emotive delivery there are personal (That's Watt's father on the cover) and instructive naval motifs. Songs like The Boiler Man, In The engine Room, Black Gang Coffee, No One Says Old Man (To the Old Man), Red Bluff, and Pedro Bound particularly set the space for an explorative course.
Watt handles thump staff and spiel as well, Nels Cline is on guitars and Stephen Hodges plays drums. They create a roving, discursive sound that achieves a definitive atmosphere. Like waves, their sound washes around you in different ways each time. A stellar album.
Get Yer Fix.......2001-04-10
As a Minutemen/fIREHOSE/Mike Watt junky, this review is probably long over due. I really want to give it 4 1/2 stars, but more on that in a second.
So, what is this album? A tribute to certain influences that have made a great muscians life. Namely, his father, D. Boon and the weird little hamlet of San Pedro, California. With a much belated nod to the great George Hurely. It is also a punk-rock opera with Nels and Steve Hodges providing very inspired music to Watt's bi-polar bass lines.
Musicly, it covers a large spectrum. The Blue Jackets Manual is a powerful ode to his father's days in the Navy. Crazy thumping bass that sometimes chirps as well as beautiful guitar work by the abovementioned Nels Cline. Then you get something like No One Says Old Man (To The Old Man) which is as mellow as anything and seems to hint a little bit at Watt's Masonic connections (I don't know either, but it comes up from time to time in his songs. See Mr. Machinery Operator). My favorite has to be Liberty Calls! which is just as manic and brilliant as anything Watt has done. Fireman Hurely is a cool tune, too. Especially if you are a fan of Georgies.
This is a great album to put on at a reasonable volume and enjoy with a good red wine and a pack of cigarettes. Surprising, yet familiar all at once. Is it as flat out rock as Ball Hog or Tugboat? No, And cleary, I don't think Watt wanted it that way. Do some of the tunes go a little spacey and sound very Dos inflected? Yes, but, this is an album which is meant to be taken in its entirerty, not a song at a time. Enjoy!
This is Something Else!.......2001-03-09
I remember opening the door to a friend's house one night in '86 and staring at Fidel Castro on the porch. Fidel said, "Someone told us we might be able to crash here tonight." Well I knew this was MIke Watt because the Minutemen were in town opening for REM. We got the best show as they played most of the tunes from Double Nickles on the acoustic guitars hanging around. Mike and D fought over the twelve string. Anyway as much as I loved the Minutemen from records and numerous shows in DC, I somehow forgot about Mike Watt in the past decade (not much of a fIREHOSE fan). I came to this set via a NEls Cline discography. Nels is the great guitar player on this album (check out his Interstellar Space Revisited for the most amazing guitar work you ever heard).
The songs are extremely well written and played. At first I was a little put off by Watt's speech/singing but it really works well with the music and the concept.
Being a fan of avant garde jazz, I find most rock music to be pretty boring. Most is pretty poorly crafted, with rather bland arrangements and stupid lyrics. I hope to find more things of this quality but I seriously doubt I'll find much. This at least gives me some hope for the genre.

Lazy Dog is London's premier deep house night, a "real music" club run by DJ Jay Hannan and Everything But the Girl's Ben Watt. Documenting the rise of this Sunday social, Ben kick-starts the party with a heads-down set featuring lush strident grooves such as "That Day" from Julien Jabre, a generic standard made better by the a capella version of his own "The Future of the Future" laid on top. Not that we need the reference, however, because the mix which then unfurls is enough to convince any doubters of this man's absolute faith in the music. Although the rhythm rarely alters beyond a steady 4/4 axis, the flavors spread on top are infinitely more varied, with gospel, jazz, and blue-eyed soul melting easily into the mix. Hannan is more Latino in spirit, upping the pace with fiery percussive classics such as Negrocan's "Cada Vez" and exotic jazz-funk flora. All in all this is real house music--no filters, no Vocoders and, thankfully, not a single drum roll in sight. --Paul Tierney
Album Description
Lazy Dog features Ben Watt, one half of Everything But The Girl, and fellow vinyl junkie Jay Hannan. With a 70 minute mix from each of them, Lazy Dog is also a collection of the essential house tracks of the moment, such as 'Cada Vez'-Negrocan, 'Beau Mot Plage'-Isolee and 'Tracey In My Room' where EBTG's 'Wrong' is fused with Soul Vision's 'Come Into My Room'. 2000 release. Slimline double jewel case.

Enjoyable.......2007-01-05
If you love deep house music, you'll love this. I am a deep house fan, but it doesn't get five stars because it wasn't as great as I thought it would be.
Awesome.......2006-08-25
Wore this cd out in 2000, playing it while bartending in the late, late night/early, early morning in San Juan, Puerto Rico....Party-time.......
Funky, smooth and addictive.......2004-06-17
Not sure I can add much to what the previous reviewers wrote, so will just simply state that I am a newbie to House, and love this CD. It goes in the CD player in the car, and does not come out for awhile (except to switch the other LD CD...). The only better House CD is the Lazy Dog 2. Both are a must have.
Opened my eyes!.......2004-03-09
This is the kind of stuff that can make a party exciting...you can have cosmos in one corner of the house...people chatting and smoking in another... and the dancefloor packed in another room...All I can say is yummy!
lush organic deep house at its best..........2003-06-03
this is the kind of house that, like a good bottle of wine, just gets better with age. also just like a good bottle of wine, this album makes you want to do something sensual as it makes you feel sexy all over with its lush soundscapes and koolgroov-style of organic dance music. when i dropped by to see an acquaintance recently he was halfway through listening the first cd. i didn't recognize that it was lazy dog at first, but i really thought what he was playing was amazing. when i figured out that it was the same lazy dog cd i had, i was pleasantly astonished to realize how great of a cd it really was. if deep house is your thing, then this first lazy dog 2-cd set should move to the top of your "must have for the collection" list. you know what list i'm talking about...

Ben Watt (of Everything But The Girl fame) delivers another superb selection of melodic and lush house on Buzzin' Fly Volume 2: Replenishing Music For The Modern Soul. Though the slight detour through electro halfway through is unexpected, it actually works really well, and doesn't come across as a trendy afterthought or worse. The sequel to 2004's deep house compendium Buzzin' Fly Volume One may not be as invigorating and absolutely essential as his Lazy Dog albums, it's also not as repetitive. Consider this concept album either a solid party starter or as solid grist for your own mixes. Very few of these artists (some of them on Watt's label) are established yet, so if you're looking for fresh house that's not from the Akufen school--solid groovy, Afro-inflected four on the floor stuff--look no further. --Mike McGonigal
Album Description
Second volume in Ben Watt's groundbreaking "Buzzin' Fly" series is a concept DJ mixset, fusing street poetics with forward-thinking electro-infused deep house. Available as a special gatefold digipak CD.

perfect!.......2006-12-31
Out of all the house albums that I have bought in years, only few of them I go back to and still listen from time to time. And thanks to the superb talents of Ben Watt, I have found another one! I always listen to a good album for about 3 months, then I throw it away but even though Its been almost a year that this album has come out, I still listen to it. just push it into ur cd player and let Mr. Watt guide you on a smooth, flawless and wonderful music journey. Unfortunately, buzzin fly # 3 is not as god as this one.
Simply an orgy for your psyche'.......2006-04-28
u know when i first recieved this cd the 1st thing that came to mind was that i was just 2 high-brow for my taste but the more i listen the more i find it truly irrestible. i find some tru gems on here but it sefinately has some low moments but the highs are so darn good that anythin' less than 5 stars would truly be a travesty. i will outline the high points for you and you should find then helpful.
#2 is bangin', but it could have been so much better if the phrase "new your style" wasnt repeated a thousand times, not necessarily a dub, just less. alltogether it sets the sexy head-nod that this cd inspires.
#5 is a lovely trip down 'horse-gallop lane. (listen and you will know what i mean) this song goes well with many atmospheres. it is fun enuf for a graduation party and sexy enuf 2 have a dancefloor full of couples grindin' under the late-nite lights of new york. it has a middle eastern drum and synth complimented by a middle-eastern vocalist which makes it very misterious and fun at the same time.
#6 switches hemispheres quite fluidly to a latin american house haven with a killer sax melody over some raw latin drums and keyboards. i find this song quite irrestible.
#8 is just plain ole good stellar house music that will move your head along with your soul.
#10 is a euphoric house track that could have taken me over the top if the synth would have kept on going up instead of the emotional roller-coaster that it led me down but the producer 'nookie' defiantely acheived the emotion he was trying to get accross and that was almost certainley 'angts'. definately a fun ride nonetheless.
#11 ........OH WHAT A TRACK!!!!!! 'senti-sabi' is one of my top 2 tracks of '05 (with mozorovs' "fly guitar" on d2 t2 of nick warrens shanghai, bieng my #1). this song has spanish lyrics that compliment a driving synth in a way that is devoid by all but the most intelligent and discerning producers. i cant say enuf nice things about this track except "get it", this song will get you ready for the club or ready for that date that you have been anticipating.
#13 in my opinion is the beginning of the build-down of this cd and it does so with a carefree, light-spirited driving baseline that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face because, try as you might, you will not be able to stop your head from moving. i simply love the effect that this song has on my psyche'.
please buy this if you like 'good' music not just house and you will not be dissapointed.
THIS CD GOT ME "BUZZIN'"!!!!.......2006-03-08
To mirror what has already been said here by other reviewers, Ben Watt has compiled an exceptionally delightly mix of some of the most unique and colorful house music on the planet. His Buzzin' Fly series is tantamount to the Nude Dimensions series bringing you never before heard of tracks from the likes of Jerk House Connection, Hanna Hais, Savannah and Unity, to only name a few. But no track on Buzzin' Fly is more stellar than Sophian Rouge's beautifully percolating "El Wahrania" that mixes what sounds like looped steel drums with some sexy atmospherics, quirky strings and some guy singing in Arabic. Nevertheless, Ben Watt's Buzzin' Fly Series in its totality is a refreshing release that should not be overlooked by any fan of the deep house music genre. Highly Recommended!
Quel pleasure!.......2005-09-25
This is a to-die-for album...absolutely perfect. And I'll bet you can't guess what it's best for...that's right...when you're alone with your honey on a Saturday night...want the ambience...the beat...the perfect beat...the coolest, sexiest lyrics...wow...I cannot stop listening since I got this album two months ago. Have had many "successful" moments in its thrall....love to Ben Watt. I will try others and look forward to more...

antithesis?.......2005-11-23
Coming from Watt, the prophet of "jam econo," an album with only one song under 5 minutes seems..well, antithetical.
The long fade-outs ("Pelicanman" especially, which repeats the "blending, bending, never-ending" refrain already used in a couple songs from "Contemplating The Engine Room") are an oddity in the Watt canon.
In general, the songs never veer from their main motifs, again an anomaly in the usual jazz/folk/punk open canvas associated with Watt.
The rich potential of an organ-bass-drums trio is fairly unfulfilled. The arrangements and rhythms are pretty straight ahead, built mostly as a couch for songs that are long-winded by any previous Watt/fIREHOSE/Minutemen standards.
Recording this was probably a great way for Watt to get back on his feet after his illness, and as an autobiographical piece it should interest long-time fans. It doesn't connect with the same musical immediacy Watt's name usually conjures.
a joy to listen to.......2005-01-12
A long devoted fan of Mike Watt, I must admit I had some reservations when he dropped the guitars and started touring with simply drums, bass and organ. I've had the fortune of hearing this material live on his last three US tours so the songs on this record took little time to gel with me. This album in particular may take some time to grow on you though... as others have mentioned it plays like an abstract jazz record.
I was immediately taken by the subtle melodies and intricacies heard better on the CD versus the crowded punk rock clubs. There are little "happy organ riffs" and slap bass fills which remind me of some of the things I've loved about all of Watt's previous bands. Watt's cap tip to Dante's Inferno has both angelic melodies and rumbling anxiety.
This is an album about triumph in the face of darkness. It is a joy to listen to. God bless Mr. Watt.
Hoorah.......2004-10-31
First off this is not your fathers rock opera however who would even expect that from mike watt in the first place. This nis the music Mr Watt was meant to make. HYe relives us of the frustration of the Minutmens one minute songs and intead takes the listern on fully a fully formed musical journy.
Its such a pleasure to see indie rocks first generation of stars are continuing to surprise and stimulate us... This album combined with sonic youths Sonjic Nurse (i think) qualifies 2004 as a fantastic year for vintage musicians!
Unexpected mid-life masterpiece... I love this album.......2004-10-21
I don't know what it is that makes rockers so prone to mid-life slumpage: the 40's and 50's are the most productive periods for people working in other mediums... Anyways, due to a confessed age-ism, I'd always been a little wary of Watt solo projects; I loved the Minutemen, and I'd heard friends who'd seen his live shows, and who swore up and down that the man managed to make bass guitar a compelling lead insturment... That said, I heard 'Secondman's Middle Stand' from a friend who does a local college radio show, and I was actually floored: it was a wrenching, virtuoso album, perfectly sequenced, and dealing--obtusely--with mature subject matter in a way that's neither maudlin nor watered-down. A forty-something uncle of mine recently went through a bout of severe health problems like those which inspired Watt with this album, so I suppose this added a level of personal potency to it... At any rate, I suspect this album's glories are intact to any listener, personal baggage aside. Don't write off the old fart just yet.
Organs and surgery.......2004-09-11
Great to have a new Watt album. If you've not bought any of his solo stuff, you should realize that they're amazing albums, being somewhat neglected by the herd in general, but as strong and exciting as anything being done in the world o' rock today (which is generally a graveyard, but still). However, you should probably start with his guest-star-studded BALL HOG or, for something more Watt-centric, CONTEMPLATING THE ENGINE ROOM, both of which are really exciting discoveries and immediately strike you with their rightness and force. Newbies might want to hold off on this new one for a little bit, tho', unless there's some pressing need to know the songs before seeing a Watt gig: there are definitely things I like about this third solo disc (the use of organ as a lead instrument, say, which, I've decided after a few days, does sound pretty damn cool, if unusual -- anyone who likes organ in rock, even, uh, progrock fans, might find cause for delight here) but the first reaction is kinda one of puzzlement, because the subject matter is a little, uh, odd: this is a rock opera based on Watt's 2000 "internal abscess" in his perineum (which got very serious, because doctors missed it), his subsequent surgery, and recovery. There are a few references to Dante, but mostly this is a pretty personal document of something that most people...just...don't write rock operas about. (The one about his father had a universal appeal, because we all have fathers; maybe if I'd had surgery at some point I'd be more easily won here). Don't get me wrong, I kind of like it -- esp. the tunes "Pissbags and Tubing" and the nicely-textured "Pelicanman;" and musically one feels like it does WORK -- but I don't fully GET it as of yet; gonna be spinning it for awhile before I feel like I understand it. Maybe when I see it played live it'll all fall into place. Until then, if you know and love Watt's other two albums, you should by all means buy this, but don't expect it to sound like anything else you've heard by the guy before, and be prepared for the rather personal theme o' th' lyrics. Who knows, after 20 more listens it might become one of my favourite albums... (Post script, post-gig: on second thought, Watt knows we know him and he knows we care; why NOT trust something this intimate with us? Thanks, Mike, for treating us like friends instead of consumers; you're a beautiful person). (This is going to be, oddly, the most interesting album of the year for me... I can feel it now).

it's cool...but.......2005-08-11
I am a huge fan of mike watt and there are some really good songs on this album, but this record has no flow and it is quite eratic. you can't go wrong with the lineup of musicians on this though!!! thurston moore,Henry Rollins, J mascis, Flea!!!!! it's insane!!! the high point on this record is defintily the playing!!!.... the lyrics are all about Watt and his days from Pedro.
punk rock super star posse!!!!!!! for mike watt.......2002-08-02
how can ya go wrong with all the biggest names in punk rock on one album . well ya cant, hosted buy mike watt (bass master man)this is the ultimate punk rock super star album bringing some of the greatest punks out of the wood work that any tribute album could hope for in one jamm .including members of pearl jam/nirvana/frank black/soul asylum/saccharine trust/circle jerks/ germs/bikini kill/sonic youth/beastie boys./dinosaur jr./lemon heads/spot/henry rollins/flea/janes addiction/meat puppets/ and more.. this album just has so much in it that if you listened to it for a week you still might not get it all....wonderfull!!!!!! buy buy buy...
Excelsior!.......2002-07-19
Well, I bought this Cd mainly because Eddie Vedder participates in two tracks, I saw a presentation in TV, an ad in a magazine and got interested enough to buy it. Well, it was one of the best decisions I've ever made (specially since it's a hard to get Cd here in Mexico) Well, Bass player Mike Watt, joins with a few friends from diferent bands, what seems reflected in the tracks, imagine a musical blender where you can just put the musical influences from different musicians (Watt & Friends), the result? a CD full of musical tracks so entertaining to listen to. You won't be disapointed by this one.
All Over The Map In a Good Way.......2002-05-28
This is a stylistically diverse album, with different sounds, lyrical themes, and singers. The only constant is Mike Watt on bass and his songwriting sensabilities. It's a great album, though not all songs are equal, but many are excellent.
All over the map........1999-07-12
Mike Watt is a great bassist, very underrated. This outing is all over the musical map and while that's admirable, it makes for a very inconsistant CD. To me, this set doesn't have any focus due to the fact that there are so many guest muscians (great though they may be). However, there are quite a few good songs on here, notably "Big Train", "Against the '70s", E-Ticket Ride" and the Funkadelic cover "Maggot Brain" among others.
