A Fantastic Find.......2007-06-27
Somehow knowledge of this band escaped this major fan of folk and traditional music. Luckily I heard a few tracks on WXPR's Bluegrass Saturday. I called Harold immediately and asked him who they were. Within seconds I had ordered the album. Loved it, love them, one of my favorite albums. I now know what jamgrass means.
Must Own It.......2005-05-08
You might call me a biased jamband fan, but YMSB's music cannot be denied. YMSB is a some sort of offspring of bluegrass, and their hard hitting lyrics and perfect delivery mesh well. They play with so much passion and energy, and they are a just plain fun to listen to. This a four member band headed by a mandolin(Jeff Austin), stand up bass(Ben Kaufman), Banjo(Dave Johnston), and acoustic guitar(Adam Aijala). They also had a special guest David Anger on the fiddle which added a nice touch to the band. This cd is massive and includes 23 tracks, with many of them spanning over 7 minutes. YMSB isn't a band that takes itself too seriously and throughout the cd they joke around and are hilarious. These songs are the best songs on the cd in order of importance.
1)Traffic Jam- catchy, contaigious, and fast paced. A slow build up to about 1 1/2 minutes then they really do some heavy jamming, and don't stop for the rest of the song. Great fiddling and banjo work throughout. Superb! Great JAM!
2) Peace of Mind- a little slow to get to the jam but well worth it. Intersting fiidle work to start it out and then it blossoms into a nice groove that flows perfectly into Snow on the Pines.
3) Snow on the Pines- great build up and rhythm. Some of my favorite lyrics in the cd. EXCELLENT mandolin pickin. So catchy i got to put this song on now.
4) Kentucky Mandolin- great fiddle/mandolin tune. Great bass solo near the end that has this funky groove carring on, very chill. At the end of the song YMSB are just plain hilarious, and every time I hear their dog hollars I crack up.
5) Bloody Mary Morning- I love this cover, nough said. All YMSB really were on.
6) Left Me In a Hole-straight up bluegrass, and is a very fun and happy tune.
7) Little Rabbit- Again this song is just appealing, more blugrass-esque but has a long extended jam. Dave Johnston carries the tune along with the banjo and never lets up.
I wish i had the patience to write a review on every song, but believe every song is worth while. Luckily I got see YMSB at the FoX theatre, and they are amazing live. They offer alot of crownd interaction unlike many big name jambands. If your into SCI, Phish, Leftover Salmon, Keller Williams, or whatever just check these guys out.
Able to incite a crowd to riotous support of jamgrass music.......2005-01-07
Playing Time - 55:25 (disc 1); 65:47 (disc 2)-- A large contingent of Yonder Mountain String Band fans were out in full force at Planet Bluegrass in Lyons, Colorado in September 2003 for the live recording of this 23-track album at Kinfolk Celebration 2003. The band's distinctive jamgrass sound is supplemented with the expert fiddling of Darol Anger. Four tracks at the end of the 2-CD album also include Rashad Eggleston and Brittany Haas. Regular band members Jeff Austin (mandolin), Dave Johnston (banjo), Adam Aijala (guitar), and Ben Kaufmann (bass) all contribute original material to the band's spirited repertoire. Besides material from Willie Nelson, John Hartford, and Bill Monroe, the band also covers four songs penned by songwriter Benny "Burl" Galloway. The lyrical messages of their original material are interesting. Their material is well-rehearsed and arranged. Not sticking to straight three-chord traditional progressions, YMSB punctuates and accentuates their music with a lot of excitement. The fun they have energizes their audiences.
While quite a few of their songs fit the standard 3-4 minute timeframe ideal for radio airplay, it's interesting to note that they also serve up eight songs that span anywhere from 6 to 10.5 minutes. Spread throughout their sets, these improvisational adventures take us on journeys that ebb and flow like an ocean's tide. In fact, four songs on disc 1 (their first set) progress effortlessly as a medley that spans over 26 minutes. The crowd is left in a wild frenzy. The encore is John Hartford's "Holding," introduced with the advice, "if you're holding, then don't hold out" and accentuated with Anger's pizzicato fiddle. Liner notes are remiss in not identifying who is singing on each song.
Since day one, YMSB has held that their fans, the Kinfolk, are the cornerstone to their success. "Mountain Tracks: Volume 3" is a testament to their ability to incite a crowd to riotous support of acoustic jamgrass music. (Joe Ross, staff writer, Bluegrass Now)
listen carefully.......2004-12-26
Yonder rocks. This album is another of their well-captured live shows and is deffinitely good tunes. Go see them in concert.
Excellence.......2004-11-09
This CD did not disappoint. This band has matured so much since some of the earlier recordings. The individual instrumentation has improved, and the group has matured as a whole. The songs are more elaborate and you can discern their fantastic stage presence just by listening. I love the joke about whiskey when Adam says, "It's like a sweater you wear on the inside," and Jeff replies, "A drunk sweater!" If you like bluegrass, imporvisational music (jam bands) and just plain great musical prowess, listen to this CD.

Thirty or so of Stevie Wonder's biggest hits--many of them enduring classics--make up this double disc. That's the good news. The bad news is that they're sequenced here about as well (or maybe not) as your CD player's "random" function might do it. Leading off with "Part-Time Lover"--a major chart record, no doubt, but hardly the rouser you'd expect for an opener--is puzzling enough. It's when the programming starts veering from highlights of his self-produced period ("Sir Duke") to Motown assembly-line pieces ("My Cherie Amour") that the head-scratching really begins. And don't try to count the great moments that are missing. This will do in a pinch, but if you own no Stevie, be advised that better overviews of Wonder's career (the finest by far being the four-CD box At the Close of a Century) are available. --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
Musical genius.......2007-05-26
I often wonder what it must be like to be a musical genius, and whenever I listen to Stevie Wonder I find the answer. When I was a little girl I wanted to be a singer (despite being tone deaf), so I appreciate anyone that has true musical ability. Not only does Stevie have a great voice, he can play practically every instrument invented. One of the words that comes to mind when listening to him is "awesome". That's all you can really say about him. His music is timeless. From "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" to "Do I Do" and "That Girl" (my favorites) he just shines and shines. This is real music by a real artist. No matter how many times I listen to this CD, I'll never tire of it. Excellent.
Stevie wonder.......2007-02-24
This was a gift to my daughter. She loved it
Wonderful, Just Wonderful.......2007-02-03
I was a baby and a little girl when most of these songs were released but I grew up with admiration and respect for his music. Throug out my life there was always a popular Stevie song out but I never paid much attention. Listening to this collection brought back so many wonderful times and allowed me to realize the exact kind of genius Mr. Wonder is.
I blast these cds at work everyday. I'm really not supposed to and I try to keep the level at an enjoyable tone but it's pretty hard, plus there's been quite a few people that stop by and tell me to turn it up. His songs are feel good all the way through.
There are better compilations, but this one is a good start!.......2006-10-26
Stevie Wonder... A WONDERFUL musician and singer! If you're planning to have all your SW LPs and singles collection on CD, start with this album. The magic of Stevie Wonder's music is forever!
Greatest Hits is the Greatest Ever !!!.......2006-03-29
These songs are timeless. They take you back to that place in time when things were REALLY hap'ning. I can't stop listening to it. All my friends wanted to know how I could find so many of Stevie's songs that were THAT good all in one collection.

Description
Sunshine Jones was formerly the frontman for the internationally known Dubtribe Sound System. "Seven Tracks in Seven Days" is his debut solo album. Led by the first single "I Believe"/"I Surrender" and already supported by the likes of Terry Farley and Murray Richardson, "Seven Tracks in Seven Days" is one man's love letter to the raw yet emotional music that captured a generation's heart, mind, and soul. Inspired by the likes of Chicago house music "Seven Tracks" shows a rarely seen 'electronic' side of Sunshine Jones.

Customer Reviews:
Best blues/rock CD of all time!.......2004-08-22
This is my all-time favorite blues/rock CD and I don't say that lightly. I'm a 51 year old blues/rock guitarist myself, and have seen and heard them all, beginning with Hendrix live back in '69. Pat has been a great influence on my playing and singing for many years, and is without a doubt the most underrated singer/guitarist of my generation. I agree with the other reviewer who said "There's no filler on this CD." Well that's the understatement of the year! Every single song is good enough to be a spine-tingling encore at a great Travers concert! I was playing this in Yahoo voice chat this afternoon and the people went crazy about it! Every time I would stop they would beg for more! I play music in there a lot...it is a regular room with good friends from all over the world, and we meet there every night and day. Pat has a certain funky style of singing and playing hard rock that I've heard with no one else, which is very rhythm and blues inspired. His natural ability to add just the right feel to the song, results in his version of a song sounding much better than the original. I can't say enough about this CD. Please get this... if good funky blues/rock moves you in your soul. You will be so appreciative...you'll include me in your will! I just put on the first song "Memory Pain" and a big smile just came across my face! It always does! Thank you God for pat Travers and this wonderful CD! AMEN.
It is certainly full speed ahead in the name of power blues.......2003-05-26
If you like power blues (a blend of blues and heavy metal), this album is absolutely for you! Pat Travers has chosen great songs to cover and it is full speed ahead all the way through this album. Even if Travers doesn't sing as good as Glenn Hughes, David Coverdale or Paul Rodgers, it's certainly suitable for this approach. For fans of Rick Derringer's more recent stuff, this is without doubt a treat.
Red Hot Rockin' Blues!.......2002-07-30
Pat Travers is one of Rock and Roll's great unsung guitar hero's.
He is at the top of any list when it comes to hard rockin' blues guitarist... and this CD just further supports that claim.
"All killer and no filler" as they say...not a bad tune on the whole CD, as Pat never holds back and rocks at full tilt through out. His send up's of classic tunes are sharp and original and check out the PT tune..."calling card blues"...most excellent.
Buy this CD today!!!
Travers is back on form........2000-06-10
This is a truly excellent Travers album. It features a new version on Statesboro blues from "Makin Magic". Also it also has some eclectic choices for blues standards. If you like "In your face guitar rock" under the guise of a blues album this is the one for you. My personal favourite is Calling card blues. Check it out you won't be disappointed.

Customer Reviews:
Just what you need ............2007-03-03
I'm just learning to play blues and this is exactly what I needed to build my skills and confidence. Great music and also addresses dynamics, something most backing tracks don't do. Worth every penny!
Decent.......2007-01-11
I agree with the other reviewers and give this four stars. There is a good amount of blues styles in different keys and the songs are all around five minutes long (although there are only eight tracks). This CD is great for those who like to strap on the guitar and start wailing out solos like I do. And, unlike a real band, the CD never complains about unending solos. The tracks are also good for practicing your scales and patterns. I recommend it and will probably be checking out the others in the series.
Nothin' Fancy Here..........2005-02-02
...but great, solid blues rythym tracks in a variety of keys. Outstanding practice and learning tool. Tracks are long enough to give you room to work on your licks without constantly hitting Replay. No instruction here. Learn the licks elsewhere and then use this CD to practice and perfect 'em.
Right Good Fun!.......2004-10-11
BITP #1 is a fun CD. This CD along with just a bit of ability to do the pentatonic thing will have you walking the Blues in no time. There is a sufficient range of Blues styles to keeping you interested and motivated. You can often Jam hard or soft with the same track, this makes for a great learning experience.
You may want to go to the BITP website to get an idea of the possibilities by listening to user submissions. While you are there, take a peek at Marvin's "Love Is Alive" CD. This is not a strict Blues CD, sorta jazzy Blues ... soft guitar. It is a somewhat over-produced, but it "listens real good."

Good tracks for jamming and they run long enough for an extended solo when you are really gettin' with it. I have three of these Band In The Pocket CD's and am well pleased with all of them. Playing with a click track has it's uses but this is much more enjoyable.

Gorgeous music that does the originals justice.......2007-02-23
After years of trying, I finally got my hands on a copy of Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth's "Rare Tracks" recently (I didn't pay $40.99). I was ecstatic and rightfully so. This disc has ten absolutely beautiful songs by the duo I consider to be the best in hip hop history. Nine are remixes of songs from their three perfect classic albums, 1991's "All Souled Out" EP, 1992's "Mecca and the Soul Brother," and 1994's "The Main Ingredient." What's so awesome about these remixes is that not only are they fitted with a completely different beat, but the whole mood and feel of the songs is shifted as well. It's like they're completely different compositions. These all do the originals justice because they're so different. The previously unreleased track, "It's Not a Game," is also wonderful, I'm glad they could dig that up from the vaults. Fans of PR+CLS with a little cash in the pocket should not hesitate to order "Rare Tracks."
The first song is the remix to "Searchin'." Quite honestly I like this remix significantly better than the original, which I always liked but was never one of my favorites. This has a cute keyboard line and great vibes, it is much more upbeat and the female R&B chorus is replaced by Pete chatting with some ladies in his lovable baritone. The result is a much more playful and happy sounding song. Similarly, the "Take You There" remix sounds much less formal, with a funkier and harder beat and the chorus replaced by instrumentals and DJ scratches. While "Lots of Lovin" is one of my favorite songs of all time, the remix on this collection is spectacular. There is not one single element of the original on the remix at all, the two songs are not even remotely similar. Each of the verses are completely fresh and different, the beat is fast yet toned, and the hook is C.L. saying "Lots of loooovin..." It's a great song and I'm so glad I was able to finally hear it. Where the original "I Got a Love" is joyful and romantic, the remix is playful, as Pete's chorus humorously asks, "Do you want to sex me now, or later?" I love "It's Not a Game," the beat is awesome with the vocal sample, it sounds like it could have come from "All Souled Out," and C.L.'s performance is great as always. The "Mecca and the Soul Brother" mix strips the beat down and creates a different sound. The "Creator" mix is actually a one-minute unreleased instrumental. Rather than completely replace the "Straighten It Out" production, the remix simply alters it in a tasteful manner. The remix to "T.R.O.Y.," undoubtedly one of the greatest hip hop songs ever, is interesting to hear. While not nearly as effective or beautiful as the original, C.L.'s words have a different effect over less moving music. I really like the remix to "Get on the Mic," which is full of saxophones and upbeat bass, making the once menacing cut sound joyful.
More perfect music from Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth. What more could you ask for? At this point in my life after keeping the original 3 PR+CLS albums on constant rotation for years and listening to those albums constantly, I anticipate getting the same enjoyment out of "Rare Tracks." Highly recommended.
Yeah!.......2004-04-08
You think you've heard it all!? These are those remixes you've always been missing! It's incredible how they sound 'new' again after all this time!!
I hate to use the word "but".......2003-05-14
Pete Rock and CL, it gets no better, that said this one comes up a little short, but if you truly appreciate the boys as I do maybe it doesn't matter ?
My reasons for liking this album are mainly tracks: 1, 2, and 4. Very solid variations of songs I loved, maybe even improvements ?
If this cd had set me back a normal $15-18, I'd leave it there and hit it with 4 stars, but at [the item price]for 3 songs, well you catch my drift, it's a little steep.
The other productions while interesting don't improve on their predecessors in any substancial way the least of which is TROY.
I have to say when I heard this version of TROY it sorta bummed me out and here's why: I'm gonna go bold here and say that the original version of TROY is one of, if the not the all time greatest hip hop songs ever put to tape. That's a big statement and not one I make lightly.
Be that as it may, the version here is a throw away, it definately doesn't do justice to the orignal and mind you this is a song I like a lot so even if it was close I'd swing for it.
I wonder if the artists, or anyone who worked with them ever check out these comments ? If they do I'd be really interested in hearing what they have to say, what was the motivation behind this ? Maybe I'm taking it all too seriously, but their body of work is so small it tends to invite hyper-sensitive analysis because there just isn't very much of it.
As much as I like the music of Pete and CL the price on this one sets the expectation very high, and at the end of the day I suspect it's a case of two really talented guys screwing around, which again, at $15 bucks would be one thing, at [item price]+ S & H it's another.
Still and all, Pete and CL on a bad day, blow doors on anything I've heard the last 5 years on the radio, maybe longer. So as much as this album didn't do what I hoped you have to take that in context of the garbage currently being played, would 3 cd's of [other garbage] equaling the cost of this one outweigh the negative ? It would be a photo finish.
I hope this review helps - Red
Rare Tracks should not be looked over.......2003-04-04
Normmally when i think of the word remix, i think of all the Puff Daddy and Nelly remixes of today. These songs involve little change to the original and usually only add an extra rap verse in or have new guest apperances. Take all that you think now of the word remix and go back to the original definition.
This album contains many songs already known and loved by Pete Rock & CL Smooth, yet this album contains all new songs. Each remix is a new creation of the original that can stand completely alone. These songs have great grooves and give a different spin on some great classics. You could listen to this album over and over again. A great album for any real hip-hop (non-pop) fan. Steve Henry - Pete Rock & CL Smooth Rare Tracks.......1999-09-24
Like fine wine, this duo get better. As an avid fan of this duo, this album comes at a time when Hip Hop, in my opinion has lost its direction somewhat. These two show what can be achieved when Hip Hop is taken back to the essence. This may be an old album in terms of the tracks on this cd, but I dare you to find anything today that even comes close. Pete Rocks remix skills are second to none and Cl's flow is to quote "smooth & sequential". Favorite track, "lots of lovin'". This to me is what remixing a track is all about. Compare it to the original, which was good by all means and what you have is a kicking track that appeals to both the ladies and the homeboys. The beat sits at a pace that flows and CL's lyrics, in comparison with the original are more direct and hardcore but still maintaining that element that is unique to CL. Every track on this album is a killer. From Take you there to Get on the mike. A lot can be learnt from this compilation. Perhaps record industry bosses will take note and stop filtering the below par compilations they do release and give the real followers of this genre what they want, or even more the point, what they need!
