One Wild Night? Well, that's not strictly true, as this live album was recorded at Bon Jovi concerts spanning three decades. But why be pedantic when the result is a live album that effectively doubles as a greatest-hits collection? Bon Jovi's songs are tailor-made for stadiums and arenas, and, from classic fist-in-the-air rockers ("Livin' on a Prayer," "Bad Medicine," "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Runaway") to lighters-in-the-air numbers ("Keep the Faith," "Wanted Dead or Alive," "Something to Believe In"), the choices are suitably larger than life. The career-reviving single "It's My Life" sounds right at home, as do great covers of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" (recorded, appropriately enough, in Johannesburg in 1995) and the Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays" (performed with Sir Bob Geldof). --Robert Burrow

Live Concert Versions of Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits.......2007-01-19
"One Wild Night: Live 1985-2001" by Bon Jovi, Is a compilation of Bon Jovi's best songs, performed at various concert events from 1985 to 2001. For Bon Jovi fans, it's classic Bob Jovi and a Must Have! If you like music recorded from "Live" performances, You will love this album! If you prefer "Studio-Cut" versions, you may not like this album because it has the sound and feel of a live concert.
zero stars.......2005-11-13
One WEAK night!...zero stars if that was available. I never realized Bon Jovi was this bad a live band. They obviously get a LOT of production help in the studio because this album (several different concerts in several different venues) is ALL bad. Sorry for them and sorry for me for buying it.
Bon Jovi rocks.......2005-08-09
I found this CD to be extemely uplifting, great music to listen to while driving.
not a greatest hits album.......2005-05-14
This is not Bon Jovi's greatest hits, and that's the only bad thing that anyone who likes Bon Jovi can say about this. It's a fun collection of some live great live performances. Bon Jovi is great in concert, interacting with the crowd, and building up the energy and fun. You can hear that the audience and performers had a great time. If you like Bon Jovi, then this is certainly worth the money!

Customer Reviews:
An Unforgettable Live Album.......2007-04-17
This album is a priceless gem that you will treasure forever! Sam Cooke metaphorically rolls up his sleeves and really works up a sweat in this amazing live concert at the Harlem Square Club, giving an earthy, gritty performance that is spellbinding. Sam's delivery crackles with raw energy! He belts out the songs with an emotional intensity and sense of urgency that whips his audience into euphoric frenzy.
Some favourite, well-loved songs (such as "Cupid," "Chain Gang," "Bring it on Home to Me," etc.) have been thumpingly and effectively re-worked to give them an edginess which causes the temperature to soar in that highly charged, festive atmosphere.
You can feel the electricity in the air! Sam teases and cajoles an attentive and adoring audience who eagerly comply with the call to party. The tempo intensifies and reaches a crescendo at the end of a totally exhilarating and riveting musical experience!
One of the greatest live performances.......2007-01-12
Sam Cooke delivers an unbelievable performance in this one. When I first got it, it was difficult for me to appreciate this live album. But as time passed by, the more it grew on me. And now, it's truly one of my favorite albums. Any soul music fan has to have this one.
The way Sam Cooke works the crowd is a thing of beauty. Those people that attended this performance are some lucky folks. He gives it his all and the crowd appreciates it. My personal favorite was "Chain Gang" because of the way he works the crowd at the end and because his voice is just electrifying with his "oh yeah" screams. Sam Cooke may not be my favorite artist but I believe he's the greatest artist of all-time. This record is one of the many testaments of that.
ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER!.......2006-11-21
This is soul at its very best! No matter how many times I listen to this album, I NEVER get tired of it. Sam Cooke went on to inspire thousands of musicians and, after hearing this album, you'll know why. Since the new movie "Ali," starring Will Smith, has been released on DVD and VHS, a lot of people wonder about the beginning where the actor portraying Sam Cooke is performing. Well, this recording is exactly where they got the idea for the beginning of the film.
Of course, my favorite is "Bring It On Home To Me." Sam delivers his music with all the fervor of a gospel sermon and beat of a pop/doo wop song. Then, there are also the usual hits, from "Cupid" to "Twistin' The Night Away."
If you're looking for a soul album to start a collection, this IS the ONE!!! It'll keep you moving!!! The sound is no longer mono, making it all the more enjoyable. The fact that Sam could get the place jumpin' is exactly why he was such a great entertainer. You can feel the high energy and the fun of that evening back in 1963 oozing out of the stereo every time you listen to this album. James Brown may be the Godfather of soul, but Sam Cooke is the father!!!
should get more than 5 stars!.......2006-08-19
This is the live album to outdo all other live albums. I am a head banging, rock and roller, guitar nut and this is still the best live album ever!
The main reason that it is great is b/c Sam Cooke works the audience. The cd builds up steam as the songs go by. This is a snowball rolling down a hill that gets bigger and bigger.
He talks to the audience, works the ladies, entices the men, pumps up his band, etc. The songs are almost a "best of" situation. Chain gang, having a party, twisting are all awesome!
You know how great the cd is? The recording has serious limitations. There are no highs and no lows. Horns, guitar, bass, drums are all mixed way towards the back but Cooke's singing and talking are way towards the front. It does not matter and should not influence anyone's listening pleasure.
A great comparison is to Otis Redding live at the Whiskey a Go Go. That is a good concert, fantastic sound recording and the band seriously rocks. This blows that away.
This is not only the best concert cd but also, it is obvious how other entertainers and djs modeled themselves afer Sam Cooke's style.
What a shame that this tremendous performer died in his prime.
Whoever reads this take note...I am no soul music fanatic. I am a Lez Zep. Who, Nirvana, guitarnut type of guy. THAT is how powerful that this work is b/c it most definetly rocks more than "live at leeds", "get your ya yas out", "Song remains the same", etc.
BEST LIVE RECORD EVER.......2006-08-18
I agree with Mr. Sullivan about who cares about some specific sounds at a live performance,... its raw, sweety, aggressive, compasionate, ITS ROCK AND ROLL!! ....today's new soul artist should buy this CD, take notes, and learn from it,.. (r&b singers are too cheezy now...) Listening to this CD, you are going back when the male soul singers were real men,.. no fakes like today's singers who just want to show off high vocal ranges like a bad imitator of Eddy Valen on the guitar. This Live show does not have any pyrotechnics,...and thats why I love it,.. Sam Cooke is by far my favorite soul singer... (I dont have nothing else to say,... so BUY IT NOW!)

This double CD does as good a job of capturing the full-throated, shoe-tossing glory of a Patti LaBelle show as any recording could. Its success as a home-listening experience, however, is diminished by the explosive vocal runs that the singer insists on tossing into every song, whether appropriate or not. Smartly programmed, the album offers a first disc that leans heavily on LaBelle's signature pieces ("New Attitude," "You Are My Friend") and a second that pays homage to Sam Cooke ("A Change Is Gonna Come"), Ashford and Simpson (a duet with O'Jay Eddie Levert on "Is It Still Good to You"), and the Cheryl Lynn disco classic "Got to Be Real" (with another guest, Mariah Carey). Probably a must for fans but a pass for those who haven't already followed her for years. --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
This Is Also on Home Video You Know.......2004-12-23
There's not too much of that unnecessary cutesy-poo note manipulation that guest star Mariah Carey is known for on this CD package. Neither Mariah nor anybody else who has come down the pike can TOUCH Patti LaBelle on what she can do with HER marvelous throat. (I'd love to see the irksome Mariah TRY though). This is actually routine Patti but it's a great opportunity to hear her in concert (or to see her if you get the MCA video). I believe this work goes back to 1998, but you may come to consider it as timeless. Patti has made a lot of cover versions of other singers' songs but she more than does justice every time. The Burt Bacharach tune made popular by Dionne Warwick in the early 60s, "Don't Make Me Over", does not suffer in the hands of the exquisite Ms. Labelle. Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" has been recorded by no less than 60 other artists or groups but none have surpassed Patti's rendition on this CD set. Go for it, I say.
YOU'LL LOVE THIS CD!.......2002-09-28
I MUST SAY,PATTI WAS GREAT IN THIS CD.ORDER IT SEE FOR YOURSELF!
A JUST GOTTA HAVE CD!!.......2001-08-14
PATTI LABELLE IS THE MOST DYNAMIC SINGER OUT THERE.SHE HAS THE MOST MAGNIFICENT VOICE I'VE EVER HEARD.I SAW HER IN CONCERT IN BALTIMORE AND WHEN SHE SANG THE SONG IN MEMORY OF HER SISTER I DON'T THINK THERE WAS A DRY EYE IN THE PLACE.THIS IS ONE CD YOU WILL NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TOO.IT'S A MUST HAVE CD.KEEP PUTTING OUT THOSE WONDERFUL CD'S AND YOU'LL HAVE A FAN FOR LIFE!!!!
PATTI ROCKS ON THIS ONE!.......2001-03-22
I've believed for a while now that if I was stuck on a desert island, and had only one CD set to bring along, all I'd need is Patti LaBelle's Live! One Night Only. It's as if I'll never get enough of this masterpiece of a live performance. Upon hearing the CD, I became a fan, and no one's voice in my 21 years has touched my soul the way such tracks as "You Are My Friend" and "Change is Gonna Come" have. If Patti simply released live recording after live recording for the rest of her career, I will be one happy young man. So deeply am I inspired by Patti's sheer artistry that New Year's Eve last, I chose to have my own "countdown" with Patti--with my earphones on, I welcomed to my heart Patti's "I Believe" in hopes that it would have an effect on my singing soul for the remainder of the year. It has done that tremendously. Pick this one up, and be inspired over and over again!
Live! One night Only - Patti at her best.......2000-07-22
OK this is a must have for any true Patti Fan, along with the Cd, the video is a must have. This is Patti at her best. From the breath taking opening "I believe", you know Patti is ready to give her all like only she can do. "When You Talk About Love" is just funky. "Is it still good to you" gives me the chills. "Don't make me over"- WOW!! not to mention "If You Love Me". There are some many moments on this Cd that show Patti as the true Legend she is. Her interpretation and phrasing is unique and her power is too good to be true. Although you can find better live versions of "If You Asked Me To", "New Attitude" and "On My Own" on earlier live recordings and videos, this Cd and video is a must have. Patti is one of the best entertainers and she is at her best on this recording. One can't help admire her energy, the chemistry with her fans, and her ability to take a song to new heights. When you hear her sing, you know it is from the heart and it is always done with much style and technique that most singers could only wish for. She blows every performer from Mariah to Whitney out of the water. Patti has got some serious talent and everyone should experience a Patti Labelle concert at least once.

Customer Reviews:
Great compilation.......2002-05-10
I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does.
The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin Mazzie, Carol Burnett, Heather Headley, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, etc., and many of these are from Original Cast Recordings just as they appeared on Broadway. This is an excellent sampler of the work going on at DRG. No...I'm not an employee...just an avid listener and collector of theatre recordings.
A disappointment.......2001-12-15
There's a reason you've probably never heard of most of the songs and shows on this album, not to mention most of the artists. This is a second-rate collection of second-rate numbers performed by mostly second-rate artists. In the case of the shows that were revivals, the performances on the original cast recordings were better. Don't waste your money.

Album Description
A live concert recording. Arlo teamed up with Shenandoah, a local band in the Berkshire mountain region of Massachusetts in the Fall of 1976. They toured together for about a decade. "One Night" is their debut recording. "One Night" was actually recorded over many nights as the band went from place to place wherever their touring schedule took them.
There is no fixing things up in the studio on this recording - It's all as it happened, when it happened. With David Grover, Terry A La Berry, Dan Velika, Steve and Carol Ide, Arlo romps through some of the funniest nights ever recorded - At least as far as they were concerned. You can hear them trying to continue as things get stranger and stranger in "The Story of Reuben Clamzo And His Strange Daughter in the Key of A."
With versatile musicianship and great vocal harmonies Shenandoah became a fixture of Arlo's touring to the delight of crowds everywhere. Even today 25 years later, they remain close friends and have recently toured together again. Many of these same musicians are on almost all of Arlo's later recordings up to the present day.
Customer Reviews:
Arlo is GGGRRREEEAAATTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-10-14
I think Arlo is a great person. I also think he'd never boast about it or even realizes his greatness. His songs are insightful and some of them are down right silly. I myself have been listening to Arlo for 30 years. I have been to two live shows and one of them was with Pete Seeger. Right now at this moment I could put on any one of his albums and when it's over I will have felt many emotions. I will also feel like I have learned something new about humanity.
Don't miss the story of Reuben Clamso, it's a classic.......2002-05-25
Lots of great songs, but what you don't want to miss is
the story of Reuben Clamso and His Strange Daughter, which
is a wonderful live performance piece. I also love
St. Louis Tickle and Strangest Dream (which is a lovely and inspiring peace ballad). I surely wish this one was in print.
lost somewhere drinking something.......2001-12-08
I had all my ARlo together, yet even amogst themselves this little jewle was a rare treat, part cozy, sort of chilling at times and all the while it brought you there. Whether you we alone or not.

While Volume 2 of Saturday Night Live: The Musical Performances claims to draw on 25 years of history, all but one track is taken from the 1990s. The exception is Neil Young, who performed "No More" all the way back in 1989. A rundown of the rest of the tracks reads like a roster of the 1990s always-on-the-radio club. The delights on this disc are few and far between. Beck's George Harrison impression on "Nobody's Fault But My Own" is a great turn for the man associated with funky stoner grooves, but longtime fans of the show will remember George Harrison dueting with Paul Simon in the late 70s. That moment is neither here nor on Volume 1. If the companion volume strove for a bit of balance between the past and present, Volume 2 is shamelessly tailored for sales, and not as an archive. --Jason Josephes

Attention: Neil Young Freaks.......2005-07-27
Rockin' In The Free World may have been the more incendiary performance but No More is a very, very cool song from the Freedom record that seems to have fallen through the cracks. This is a nifty live version.
I picked this set up used for about 2 bucks, I certainly would not have paid full price but I sure have enjoyed putting this Neil Young song on mix tapes.
YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDIN' ME.......2003-10-08
One of the greatest if not the greatest live performance I've heard or seen is not presented on this CD. That's right the greatest. I don't know or have ever really know anything about Neil Young, but his live performance of ROCKIN'IN THE FREE WORLD on SNL almost put tears to my eyes. Utterly speachless. It was'nt that it was such an emotional performance or anything, but that the fact was that this old fart would have rocked Kurt Cobain's or anyone elses young butt. Trully a powerful and insperational song.
Get the DVD it's the only official release of the song.
A rare set of performances.......2002-09-08
Sorry that the majority of other reviewers focused on what performers were NOT included vs. reviewing the actual merits of this compilation. There are some excellent performances here. Neil Young, Pretenders, Beck, REM and Alanis are superb...all very well recorded. I like the incredible variety-there is no better CD for a long car ride. Highly recommended.

solid 4! Dokkens best.......2006-12-18
I love this cd. the atmosphere is great and the Acoustic/Electric combo is really cool. These songs are stripped down, yet sound better. Especially "Just Got Luck" and "The Maze" which are great! 80's icons are in career form here. must have.
Awesome Vocals.......2005-11-01
I, too, grew up in the 80's, and have never grown tired of some of the great music that was created then. I am also an avid collector of 80's rock done acoustically.
I have to say, that even though it is not entirely acoustic, this is definitely one of the better acoustic recordings I've ever heard. The songs have been tweaked, some interesting acoustic intro's... And the vocals are intense. There is no doubt as to the talent of these four gentlemen known as Dokken.
The only thing that comes close is some acoustic performances I've heard of Def Leppard...
GREAT MEMORIES FOR THIS GENERATION " X" .......2005-09-14
I am a child/teenager of the 1980s and liked Dokken. I am not disappointed with this unplugged version. I will admit listening more to the familiar songs than those written in the 1990's. I can't believe it's been about 20 years since they were at that peak!!!!! I'm getting older!!!!!
Love One Live Night!.......2003-04-07
I bought the dvd first and was curious about it. I thought it was great-for the dvd of the songs giving new life to them and the interviews in between of goofying off and showing their real side. Then I bought the cd and loved it. They had little saying in between songs on the cd that I thought was neat. Like before it's not love someone was yellilng breaking the chains and Mick saying," What did you say?" and Don saying something like "we take requests". I recommend this to Dokken fans and 80's fans!
Not Bad.......2002-04-25
Not bad "unplugged" , not great either, I prefer the power chords that blow you thru the wall !!! but this isnt a bad effort, I think they add a cool vibe with an acoustic set, I like this cd quite a bit, but have to be in the mood for this one...otherwise, Ill pop in their older stuff!

Kurt Weill's ballet with songs is one of this century's greatest theatrical works. It has all the wit and melodic appeal of The Threepenny Opera and social conscience of Mahagonny, but more warmth and musical sophistication than either. It's also all over with in about 40 minutes. Some critics believe the piece was intended as a sort of love poem to Weill's wife, Lotte Lenya; given the tenderness of much of the music, it's hard to disagree. Lenya herself recorded the piece in the 1950s (a recording recently reissued by Sony) and this very much newer performance is welcome particularly for Anne Sofie von Otter's highly intelligent and musical way with the text. The other songs, from both Weill's Berlin and Broadway periods, make the perfect filler. --David Hurwitz
Customer Reviews:
Very Good.......2006-01-03
This is a very nice selection of Weill pieces showing the full range of his output. These range from the ambitious Seven Deadly Sins to songs from Happy End to some of his Broadway work. All are very interesting. The performers, particularly Von Otter, are excellent. Recommended strongly.
Excellent Weill Alternative to Lenya and Lemper.......2005-09-29
`Speak Low Songs by Kurt Weill' is a great addition to the performances of Herr Weill's works by the prominent mezzo-soprano, Anne Sofie Von Otter. I have listened to many performances by Weill specialists from the archetype, Weill's wife, Lotte Lenys, for whom many of the songs were originally written to Ute Lemper and Gisela May, who lean heavily toward Lotte Lenya's gravel-voiced interpretation of Weill's songs.
Anne Sofie Von Otter breaks with this tradition and gives us what are easily the sweetest interpretations of Weill's songs from both his German and English works, which I have heard anywhere.
The flagship performance on this disc is `Die Sieben Todsunden' (`The Seven Deadly Sins') which was a cycle of songs to be sung on the stage, accompanied by dances done by a second performer. This takes the first nine (9) tracks and is at least as good as what I have heard from Weill specialist, Lemper. This album is the first time I have noticed that there are two versions of this work, and that Ms. Von Otter is performing the version for soprano.
But, I think the most moving performances come later, especially in von Otter's performances of the three numbers from `Happy End', `Bilbao-Song', `Surabaya-Johnny', and `Das Lied von der harten Nuss' (Song of the Big Shot). I have heard these done by many people, but never so sweetly. These numbers are so lovingly performed that I insist that you ignore the fact that the lyrics are in German. The accompanying booklet gives English translations, which I simply ignore and enjoy the musical talent with no filter. My understanding German has nothing to do with this, as I do the same with French, which I can just barely make out.
Kurt Weill may not be the most important influence on American musical theatre in the 20th century, but he is easily in the top five, along with the Gershwins, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers and collaborators, and Cole Porter.
Ms. Von Otter is ably accompanied on this disk by her favorite pianist, Bengt Forsberg plus the Norddeutch Rundfunk orchestra directed by John Eliot Gardiner. While I really like her selection on this disk, the collection makes me wish Ms. Von Otter would do some more Weill and spend less time hanging out with Elvis Costello, but that's a different story.
Everything is right but the style.......2005-09-24
Weill and Brecht defined a nasty age with nasty art, writing some of the grittiest satire in the history of music. In this CD von Otter misses that edge, skirts all the dangerous, sleazy implications, and ultimately sounds too much the opera singer slumming it for an hour. Her earnestness is no subtitute for the right period style, a la Lotte Lenya.
Intelligent reading from both singer and conductor.......2005-01-27
THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS is such a brilliant mini-masterpiece (and, to me, the pinnacle of the Brecht-Weill years) that it is hard to screw up. It is a testament to the staying power of this work (and to the brilliance of Weill's music in general) that it can be performed by the likes of Lotte Lenya, Julia Migenes, Ute Lemper, Judy Kaye, Marianne Faithfull, Teresa Stratas, and -- as here -- Anne Sofie von Otter, and STILL work... and EACH of these women are totally successful in the piece on their own terms.
Here, Anne Sofie von Otter gives us an intelligent (and highly musical) rendering of the text, keeping the musical line very much intact. She sings with vibrato at times, and then will turn around and use straight-tones at moments where it is dramatically appropriate to do so. She balances the performance well, shifting gears between cool detachment (which she is often criticized for) and impassioned outbursts (which her critics often fail to notice).
John Eliot Gardiner surprised me with how easily this music seemed to come to him, especially as he seems to be a man more at home with "Period-Instrument-Mozart" than highly charged 20th century works. However, his reading of "The Rake's Progress" by Stravinsky was totally staggering. For example, his choice beginning the climactic moment of the score ("Envy") as slowly as he does caught me very much off guard at first, and I didn't really care for it at all. However, with each successive listen, I find myself "getting" this choice more and more.
Finally, the "filler." As to be expected, she is more successful with the European material than she is with the songs from Weill's Broadway years. But this is the case with about 99.9% of all opera singers who try to sing Weill's Broadway scores. You will never hear any singer give "Je ne t'aime pas" a more hauntingly beautiful, passionately intense performance than Anne Sofie von Otter. Truly, the ultimate interpretation of one of my favorite Weill songs. "Nannas Lied," "Der Abschiedsbrief," and the HAPPY END selections. However, "My Ship" and "One Life to Live" seem to fail at catching fire -- the former because it is marred by an attempt to sound like a "pop singer," the latter because von Otter sings English better than native speakers (she knows where the ACTUAL emphasis in the phrase "nothing: the thing is to have fun" goes, as opposed to where Ira Gershwin placed it). I also -- surprisingly enough -- don't care for her performance of "Schickelgruber" -- she just seems totally lost to me. (I really think that this song is foreign territory to 'legit' sopranos and mezzos -- I don't even care for the Stratas rendition.) Just when I thought I would have to suffer through another bad batch of "opera-crossover," Anne Sofie turned around and surprised me by giving highly successful performances of the numbers from ONE TOUCH OF VENUS (especially on "I'm Stranger Here Myself").
All in all, a worthy purchase: highly recommended to all fans of THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS and Kurt Weill enthusiasts.
Brilliant--The best of the 7 Deadly Sins recordings.......2002-10-12
Weill, and particularly anything Brecht-Weill, has suffered for too long with interpertations based on tired ham theatrics, burlesques of Lenya's style, to the point where we have come to expect it as the only way to sing this music. Lenya herself is said, late in life, to have commented that a better singer (specifically Stratas at that time) would be more appropriate for properly interpreting Weill's music.
Here, after countless CD releases of the Seven Deadly Sins, is the first recording sung in the key the composer originally intended! The result is relevatory, sublime and magnificent.
Ms. Von Otter interprets the rest of the songs with mixed results--all are lovely, several are excellent, though several others have been handled better by singers with more "theatrical" talents. Nevertheless, this recording stands alone, head and shoulders above the others.

good effort.......2006-11-04
Even though this is a nice recording, I would prefer to buy the oldest live presentations with the original line-up. This is a correct performance but nothing more.
A Masterful Live Album with Energy and Passion!!!.......2004-03-06
ELO Part II may go down as rock music's biggest footnote. But what folks don't understand is the genuine musicianship of this ELO wannabe group. They seem to pull off the impossible. The orchestral intro to "Standing In The Rain", the giddy-up of "Evil Woman", the majesty in "Can't Get It Out Of My Head". In some cases these arrangements have more depth and clarity than the original recordings. Check out "Telephone Line" for exhibit A. Sprinkled ELO II originals don't damage the overall flow and mood of the album. In fact, "One More Tommorow" sounds as if it was taken from the Jeff Lynne unused song archives. Also of note is the "strange magic-sweet talkin woman-confusion-do ya " medley. Wow. If you want the hits they're here! The album concludes with a raucous version of "Don't Bring Me Down", sort of a parting shot at Jeff Lynne who did everything in his power to derail Part II. He may be a genius, but if he doesn't like to tour, he ought to let the rest of his former underpaid mates make the dough. For Pete's sake, Jeff. Anyway, great disc, great sound, great band. Buy it!
One Night - Only one? Gimme more!.......2000-01-15
One Night, live in Australia, finally a good live album! ELO Part II does a superb job delivering some ELO classics and some of their own material. Having seen ELO Part II myself I can say that this CD really tears the roof off the house. Though most people dismiss Part II saying they're just imitating ELO, I have to say that this still is one of my favorites. For me, the highlights of this CD are the Intro to Can't Get it Out of My Head, the Eldorado Overture. The only complaint is it's not quite up to tempo. The other highlight is the "ELO hits" medley near the end of the show. (The end of this CD, this is actually a double CD cut down to one without some great songs, drat) The first three songs are great in their own respects but the final two, Do Ya sounds great and it leads right up into the orchestral/vocal explosion of Rockaria! With Kelly Groucutt singing his patented opera segment that was originally sung by Mary Thomas on the album for those of you who don't know. And of course every song on this album is great. I'm not quite sure but I think that the line in "Roll Over Beethoven" that says, "Hey diddle diddle gonna play my fiddle" now reads "Hey diddle diddle, Mik Kaminski's playin' his fiddle" I may be wrong. My opinion, buy this CD, for the sake of the band if nothing else.
Enjoy!.......1999-12-23
If you a seeking a great rocking experience and instant energy on a compact disc, put this on, step back, and get ready to roll. Incredible concert production!
Finally a decent live ELO album.......1999-05-11
There are live albums of the original lineup out there, but without exception, the sound on all of them is absolutely cruddy. Well, I never had a bootleg mentality (paying more than a decent album wiould cost just to own the thing), so I never touched the things. Okay, so these guys in this one aren't all the same guys. Big deal. Not only do they present the newer material well like you'd expect, they even do a decent job on the oldies (I mean, some of these guys were little kids when that stuff was first released). And this being the decade it is, the sound is good. So, not only is this a worthwhile album for the new fan, it has something for us dinosaurs who followed the old lineup, too! Don't forget, "our" ELO never did get around to a decent live album.
