I didn't realize how many good songs they did.......2007-05-19
their was a fair amount of filler, but 5 or so really good songs.
311 Hits Compilation Perfect...Almost..........2007-04-15
311 is closing in on the 20 year mark of being a band, and for any band that continues to prove successful beyond it's 10th year is an amazing feat. 311 has lately been slummed by critics and some fans alike, but the latter day 311 is just as good as the early day 311, although the early 311 had just a little more funk thrown into it. Now, it comes as no surprise that a greatest hits compilation would surface, and so it has with Greatest Hits '93-'03. While this compilation showcases a lot of good 311 songs, I would have easily put 4 or 5 more songs on this compilation to make a little more close to what it should have been if it were only a single disc greatest hits.
First off the pros to this compilation: you have the hits ranging from the aggressive breakthrough single "Down" to the breezy tropical "Amber", one of the most beautiful songs written by 311. In between you have all the heavy rockers ("Creatures", "Flowing", "Transistor", "Homebrew" to name a few) and you have some of the more melodic moments ("All Mixed Up", "First Straw", "Beyond The Gray Sky"). While a lot of good material was included here, there are a few songs I would have included on this compilation that, in my opinion, would have made it better. "Freeze Time" was a huge rocker from Soundsystem that could have been included here; "Purpose" is a little Carribean sounding with a heavy chorus thrown in the mix; "Feels So Good" from music should have had just as much right to be on here as "Do You Right"; "What Was I Thinking" was a minor radio hit (I remember hearing it on WAAF's real rock 20 peaking at no. 17); and lastly, "Applied Science" should have been on here as it's a staple of 311's many concert shows.
So there you have it. While not the most perfect greatest hits package to come around this century, curious people wondering about 311 would do fine to pick up this compilation for a sampler of 311. Those who want more out of this should pick up 311's other albums and make their own compilation (which I did) and rock out. But by no means a failure, this is a good introduction into the world of the Omaha, Nebraska quintet.
Enjoyable, if of course you like 311 like I do!.......2007-03-14
311 are one of my favorite bands, but their funky rock approaches was hit and miss over the years. Still, this greatest hits CD is about as good as it can be. Considering that 1993-2003 was a window of time in which the rock, pop, rap and metal music market went through a lot of changes, 311 still tried to stick to a formula that worked.
Their music was energetic and often had a party antics type theme to it. From the songs "Down" "All mixed up" "Transistor" and "Love Song", this album is truly a collective song list that features their strongest efforts. I loved the lesser-known music they had over the years that the MTV generation may have missed, but this one is great because you get all the hits and then some. I always liked this band because they were not depressing or hateful in their songs, they made fun music!!
An "unbalanced" compilation.......2007-02-11
I gave this 4 stars for a reason...and that reason is that this greatest hits album is "unbalanced," meaning it has too much of one type of song and not enough of another type. "Greatest Hits: '93-'03" is riddled with slow, soft songs, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but they do get old after a while. They're good songs, don't get me wrong, but I was hoping for more heavy and semi-heavy songs too.
Amber is a good slowed-down song to put on this compilation, no doubt about it. It sounds awesome. Amber is on the "From Chaos" album. And so was "Champagne." But Champagne was also an awesome slow song. So I ask, why wasn't Champagne on the Greatest Hits? Why wasn't it a hit at all? Instead we have "I'll Be Here Awhile" and "Wouldn't You Believe"...they aren't bad songs, but they aren't great either. Put it this way, I won't remember 311 for those two songs; when I wanna remember "slow songs on From Chaos", my mind will immediately think of Amber and Champagne. Also, the song "From Chaos" should have been included on here as well. I know it wasn't even a single, but it was still an awesome song, I think...
Another gripe--only one grassroots song? That was their best album...and all the producers could do is put one song on the greatest hits album? What about Lucky, 8:16 A.M., Applied Science, Silver, Lose, Six, or 1,2,3? Aren't they all good songs too? I'm sure at least one of those could have been on this collection...
For the most part, the Blue Album's hits have been covered pretty nicely, my only change would have been to take off Don't Stay Home and replace it with Jackolantern's Weather. That's a great song...But here comes the compilation's biggest flaw: Soundsystem, Transistor, and Evolver. The hits from these albums all sound similar to each other, sometimes I can't even tell the difference without looking at the song name on my iPod. Come Original, Transistor, Beautiful Disaster, Creatures, Beyond the Gray Sky, and Flowing are all decent songs, but I think other songs would have been better in their place.
The song, Do You Right, I think is an awesome song. Nothing else to say about that. Lastly, three other tracks not featured on studio albums have spots in the greatest hits--First Straw, Love Song, and How Do You Feel. How Do You Feel is an awesome track. Love Song is pretty good. First Straw is not so good. I guess it all boils down to opinion.
In conclusion, the album does get boring at times because of similar-sounding songs. It needed more heavy or medium songs in it. In my opinion, a good solution to this problem would have been to make 2 greatest hits albums: one for early 311, and one for later 311. Music, Grassroots, and the Blue Album could all be housed under the first compilation while Soundsystem, Transistor, From Chaos, and Evolver could be on the 2nd one. But that's just me.
Fun, relaxing, smooth, cool...everything you could want out of a 311 album........2007-01-15
Not much to be said about this compelation, aside from it being one of the greatest ones I have in my library!

Customer Reviews:
It's gotta be 5 stars because its Frank Black, but overall I hate best of's.......2007-07-07
I am not one for many words... Frank Black is a genius there is no doubt about that. His Pixies records and solo stuff are great... but as always a best of does not do justice to an artist with such a range of songs. If I were you I wouldn't buy this compilation, but buy his solo stuff starting from the beginning with the self titled album and then if you like that grab the next album (teenager of the year) and so on.
The reviewer above quite rightly said that these songs take a while to sink in and appreciate. That's true for all of Frank's work... don't expect to put a Frank album on and immediately like it... give it 5 or so plays and the genius will hit you. Frank Black albums are special... buy them, not the best of!
Best of the Best.......2007-06-29
Frank black is my favorite musician of all time. I've searched everywhere for those who truely have the gift of melody, and Frank Black takes the cake for my personal favorite. No one else consistantly writes interesting, extremely catchy songs in unique ways as well as this man.
God has truely given him a great gift. This Best of does not have all my favorite songs by him, and some of the selections on here are some of my least favorites (manitoba, i gotta move). However, this compilation is a great showcase of Frank's talent and how his styles have evolved. This is a great start for the uninitiated, and i would recommend it to anyone who loves guitar driven music. All of his songs are gems so of course this isnt really a "best of". One would have to listen to his whole collection for that. The bonus disc is great also for fans to hear some of his classics live. The tracks are in stark contrast to the accoustic selections of last years Christmass album. To all the unitiated though, i must warn you, as any fan would tell you, THE SONGS TAKE TIME TO DEVELOP in your brain. Every album of his i did not like at first. And then came the moment of clarity that would almost always bring tears to my eyes. I dont know how he does it, but this man is clearly gifted in a divine manner. I would call him a modern day Bob Dylan, but better, and less known, and certainly less appreciated.

Too busy.......2006-07-14
I was hoping for more music - there's just too much storytelling for my and my kids' taste. We love the Beethoven's Wig series and were hoping this would be similar.
good product and fast service.......2005-09-11
Product arrived in ample time overseas and was pleased with quality of product!
what a road trip.......2005-02-21
i bought this item after reading some of the reviews on amazon for my nephews who are 2 and 4 years of age. two months after christmas their mom was explaining how they request the cd everytime they are in the car. she groaned when i was in the car and they boys wanted to show me how much they liked the cd. during the trip i witnessed a mother humming along to the music with her children, the boys singing to excerpts, and an overall execptional learning experience about music, culture, and history. if you are looking for something that all children will like, passes the time on a road trip, and teaches important lessons about life without being pretentious then get this cd, it is a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
Mesmerized and moved mom to tears.......2005-01-26
This CD is awesome, the music great, the story captivating. But it's Mozart, you already know about the music. Other reviewers have already discussed the story and I agree with their assessments that it's very good. The reason for this review is to say that my very active, never stopping, constantly in motion 5 year old SAT DOWN AND LISTENED without fidgeting or fiddling for a full 20 minutes and then sat but fiddled for the remainder of the CD. Maybe this is not a big deal to moms of "normal" energy level children -- but this simple act of being still for 20 minutes moved me to tears. I said nothing before putting the CD in, I just put it in while he was doing his running around. Within seconds of hearing the story start he sat down on the floor, crossed his legs, and listened while looking at the speakers. I have never seen this behavior from my child before, ever. Please note that this is a child who is not ADD, he just cannot be still. He listens to hundreds of hours of stories we read to him -- while he's doing something else. He "watches" videos -- while he's doing something else. He reads, while clapping or tapping out the beat of the syllables. I cannot remember my child ever stopping what he was doing to JUST LISTEN. When it was over he said, "That was a cool story," and got up to run around. That was it, but that's high praise from this child. To see my child sitting still for a full 20 minutes, you cannot begin to imagine my awe. I am running right out to get the rest of the series! Bravo to the producers!
Daughter loves it.......2003-03-27
My daughter is 5 and loves to hear this CD over and over in the car.

Never fails to entertain..........2007-07-04
My fourth album from Bolling, and I'm still constantly entertained and mesmerized by the music. Bolling's specialty lies in his ability to fuse "mainstream" (arguably so) melodies with little surprises here and there which never fails to please and entertain. I also highly recommend the Violin and Piano album, and the flute and piano albums.
Claude Bolling Jazz CDs.......2006-11-10
I was delighted to discover the Claude Bolling collection available on Amazon. I used to play the flute suite but didn't know he had written for other instruments. I purchased this CD for a cellist grandson.
Great music, but ..........2006-09-20
I echo the comments of other reviewers in praising the music. It's very creative, very interesting, and the combination of instruments gives it a depth that it might not otherwise have. However, I found the quality of the recording to be poor. I admit I have a cheap audio system, but other recordings with similar instruments sound much better. Hence 4 stars instead of 5.
Ma continues to Expand his Repertoire.......2003-10-17
Bolling has left the rather confined world of the Jazz trio (piano, flute, bass + percussion - that's a quartet isn't it?) and expanded into other areas. The cello seems an odd choice for a jazz adventure but somehow it seems absolutely correct in these circumstances.
Ma has traveled from the beautiful solitude of the solo Bach Sonatas to the ravishing sensuousness of the Tango to "modern" chamber music and now to sophisticated jazz settings. Each of these pieces seems written with him in mind (and maybe that was the case) and if not, it is as near a perfect fit as one can imagine. The yearning of the cello combines with the other instruments to produce some of the most beautiful sounds around. This is a winner.
Bolling and Ma--a combination made in heaven!.......2002-10-07
Claude Bolling and Yo-Yo Ma are a combination made in heaven on Bolling's "Suite for Cello & Jazz Piano Trio." Once again marvelously mixing together many of the basic ingredients of classical and jazz, Bolling serves up a deliciously rich stew of musical influences that manages always to sound fresh, never derivative.
"Baroque in Rhythm" opens the album with a, well, baroque sound. Ma serenely carries the first few minutes of the song himself, when Bolling and his bassist and drummer come in for back-up. The result is pure, propulsive magic. "Galop" has the feel of a musical dressage session, with Ma's cello richly filling the role of spirited horse, and Bolling's piano providing a prancing, mincing sound to back up the illusion. "Romantique" starts off sounding as though it's actually going to be a cheesy lounge ballad, but it soon turns mystical and minor and rich. Bolling can pack regret and memory and smoky sadness into piano-playing like practically no one else I know. "Romantique" is truly a magically evocative composition. On the song "Cello Fan," Bolling's piano and Ma's cello playfully sound as though they're racing each other, or else talking to each other at very high speed, each rushing to outdo the other. It's great breathless fun, and the whole album is a treasure.

Bon Scott must be rolling over in his grave........2005-08-26
i don't really like Maroon 5 (too popular), but some of the songs are ok, as my friends made me listen to this album (torture). Highway to Hell is an insult to AC/DC members. It is a nice song with a truly memorable riff. The guitars here, though, have too much bass and sound as though someone has too much phelgm in his throat. Dums are too punkish, not metal enough. Now, if you want to play music by a band in the rock n roll hall of fame, which is heavy metal, but don't sound metal enough, why play it?
This is a must have!!!!.......2005-06-23
I really love this cd. It showcases the extreme talent of the band. It is a rarity for me to love all the songs on any cd, but I am very happy with this and the other 2 cds that I have of theirs. I love the Beatles cover, as they are one of my favs also.
Maroon 5: Music for lovers & Romantics.......2005-04-21
Someone special in my life recently introduced me to Maroon 5 as this band was her all time favourite group - and I can see why. I have fallen in love with this band and I Maroon 5 ins fast becoming one of my favourite listened too bands next to The Calling, Staind and Lifehouse. Listening to the acoustic versions of the hits from Maroon 5 like This Love, Sunday Morning, She Will Be Loved, shows how talented this group of young men are. The lead vocalist has an amazing voice that is heard to its glory in the acoustic version of the album.
This is a must for any fan of Lifehouse, 3 Doors Down or Audioslave. All the songs are special but the one's I mentioned are my favourites, sung with a deep melancholy and a strong sense of passion.
ADAM GETS FIVE STARS BY HIMSELF!!!.......2005-01-18
this is by far one of the finest pieces of music i have heard from this band! thought many think live or acoustic think they sound terrrible, this is the way the got a recording contract and it is nice to hear them doing what they love to do... perform 5*!
Adam's Vocals.......2005-01-11
Adam's voice deserves 5 stars all on its own. It's just so gorgeous. He's also a superb lyricist and his band members are also great. They do extremely well together. Acoustic or studio. These versions showcase Adam's voice without other instruments drowning him out in any way. So, if you're really into his voice like I am, this album is a sweet buy.

To remain relevant after a decade in the music industry is rare indeed; for a dance act, it's virtually unique. Singles 93-03 ably demonstrates how the Chemical Brothers have managed it. Having first carved a reputation as DJs the Dust Brothers in the early 1990s, the two history graduates narrowly avoided calling themselves the London Dust Explosion before spearheading big beat, becoming a huge live draw, collaborating with Noel Gallagher and having Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis play "Hey Boy, Hey Girl" at his wedding. It's been 10 years of fun, frolics, and gigantean left-field beats for Ed Simmons and Tom Rowland and, as this faultless singles collection testifies, continual reinvention.
From the seething siren, pounding breaks, breathy vocals and spellbinding post-acid electronica of album opener "Song to the Siren" to the ingenious collaboration with the Flaming Lips, "The Golden Path," Tom 'n' Ed have somehow managed to carve tracks that appeal equally to radio, clubs, and the live arena. Alongside the cement-cracking bass of "Leave Home" and "Block Rockin' Beats" comes the high-inducing sonic debauchery of "The Private Psychedelic Reel" and dancefloor filler "Star Guitar," to name but a few of the many highlights. Ingenious, boundary-baffling stuff, this compilation offers a hypnotic historical tour of one of the most creative careers in dance music. --Christopher Barrett

Prime Compilation.......2006-07-13
A great starting point for anyone looking to discover the Chemical Brothers. Nearly all tracks succeed at rounding out this retrospective of the Brothers' body of work from the 90s. The one or two that do not reach the energy or wow of the remaining cuts do so marginally at most, and bear in mind this is my subjective take. Still this is a great compilation; after listening to this stellar package, the CB's "Push the Button" is that much more enjoyable.
Great delivery great product.......2006-03-02
Good CD for the price. Did not have all the singles I was hoping for, but can't beat the price.
More than Just a Dance Band.......2005-09-24
Sure, these guys have pumped out many a dance floor filler. This collection of incredible singles is an undeniable testament to that. Buy this one for the singles, and the extra disc of rare-ish material. Then prepare to fall in love with Chemical Brothers, one of the most brilliant duos in popular music. Hopefully this "Best Of" will only be a jumping off point for the curious. Digging a little deeper into their albums you will find bits of heady psychedelia, rushes of shimmering electronica, tough slabs of hip hop, moody ballds, guest vocalists galore, and more than just a few curveballs thrown your way.
Get it while you can!!.......2005-01-06
Ok. The songs included in this compilation are the most know ones. The unmissable ones. What I liked a lot about this album was that they sort of made special edits to the song, which doesn't meant they cut parts or something. I loved how they selected them and put them together. It is perfect. Plus, this singles collection has 2 new tracks: The Golden Path (can be funny and beautiful at the same time) and Get Yourself High (a very distorted and electric hiphop-like song). The real reason why I got this Cd was because of the bonus album. It has 2 live tracks (so incredible because they are amazing and very original when they go live), some unreleased tunes and mixes, and includes other tracks that were singles. It's a wonderful tracklisting. If you have liked what the Chems have done in the past, you're gonna be happy with this cd, just like me. I am a fan, and I'm satisfied with this singles album.
I'd never heard of the Chemical Brothers.......2004-10-20
A friend recounted that he was searching through the personals one day when he came across the ad of a woman who claimed to be a Chemical Bros. fan. He was thrilled and I was mystified -- who are the Chemical Brothers?
And now it's love.
For casual listeners of electronica/dance music, there is plenty in this compilation to make it worth the price. Star Guitar is the kind of music you want to play when you're racing down a dark highway on your way into the city, Get Yourself High is head-bop fantastic and both Loops of Fury and Chemical Beats sounds like they should have made it onto a Matrix soundtrack.
In short, this is a great compilation for the Johnny-come-lately Chemical Brothers fan.

Muffled.......2006-11-03
This is a decent enough recording, but it's not anywhere near the best that I have heard. The Andre Previn/LSO recording is much better mixed; at times it seems like there's a muffle on the mikes, or that you're hearing it from a distance.
If I wanted good, dynamic background music, I'd do this. If I wanted to really listen to the music, I'd pick another version.
Somewhat disappointing........2003-09-10
I bought this for the full-length rendition of Rhapsody in Blue. I found the brass too tinny sounding, and the rhythm off in a few places. I like the snippet of this song on the "Best of the Milleneum" CD much better.
Gershwin At His Best in Hearts!.......2003-03-19
To someone who came along as a teenage boy in the mid-1940's, this CD has the elements of authenticity, even surprise, musical history, highly intense performances, and ways evoking memories of emotional highlights of my Youth. When mediocre orchestra 1st tackled Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" at Smoky Mtn Music Camp we were preparing for Sunday's outdoor Concert. Pianos were played by two friends who've presided Music Dept at Carson-Newman College in East Tennessee. In the Trombone section was a skinny kid with too much hair and too big an ego! When our esteemed conductor began the opening bars the Clarinet Soloist, my close friend Danny Boy slide-up the chromatic scale with fleurish. He later became a NC Doctor! He likely plays clarinet for his own amazement in someone's Dixieland Band!
On this wondrous CD there are historic names like Bernstein, Kostelanez, John Williams and Michael Tilson Thomas, Conductors. Andre Previn, Yo-Yo Ma and Sarah Vaughan as Soloists. I would have a hard time choosing which may be called my favorite! It would depend on the day they are playing in my car... traveling to Columbia Seminary classes or GA Diagnostic Prison for lunch with Chaplain friends! I often sing along with the Rhapsody as I did in 1949 when Oscar Levant soloed with Chattanooga Orch. My very young wife was playing in the first violin section! Still today I am totally wiped out when anyone as intensely romantic as Sarah Vaughan sings "Summertime" or "I Loves You, Porgy!"
Is it not amazingly wondrous that someone could create so much enjoyable music in his short lifetime of 39 years? I never wish to part with this all-time favorite 10-Star Recording!

The best America has to offer!!.......1999-03-09
This is the best collection of his songs i have ever heard. That's probably because it features conductors like John Williams and Micheal Tilson Thomas. My personal favorite is the allegro agitato from the Concerto in F. I have other recordings of this song, but none of them can even come close to matching the excitement of this one.

Awesome!.......2006-05-10
Buying this album was a pure accident, and I thank my lucky stars that I did! this recording is absolutely brilliant. I had played Mendelssohn before in Symphony, but I had never heard these particular compositions and they have made him one of my favorite composer! I love it!
My favorite recording of these symphonies.........2005-09-24
In response to the last reviewer - I would agree that the Berlin is a bit raucous at times, but, c'mon! It's Romantic music! What's wrong with some unrestrained emotion?!?
I find these performances very moving, especially the 3rd symphony (I rate it neck and neck with Maag's version with London Symphony Orchestra). I have no need to defend the music, you've all heard it (especially the Italian). This is Karajan at the height of his powers. In short, at this low price, with this much music on it and with a newly remastered and cleaner sound, it's worth the purchase.
Powerful Scottish + Other Things of Merit.......2004-08-09
BBC Radio 3 broadcasted the Scottish symphony earlier this year. At the time I was utterly unfamiliar with the work but even during that first exposure--for I was listening--I decided to update my collection as soon as possible. Which I did by buying this CD. (Later I also bought Peter Maag's interpretation of this symphony, but not because I was dissatisfied with the CD I now review. Far from it; both are excellent.)
As illustrated from the Radio 3 example above, I was immediately struck by this music. I can't say if that will also be the case with you (because the value of art is often of a personal nature), but do find an opportunity to find out for yourself. As usual, music of this caliber becomes better over time, certainly if you really focus on it (my opinion).
Considering the other reviews, I think indeed that the orchestra is massive here. Some nuance may be lost in some instances but the overall effect of "wild winds roaring down mountains" (not exactly a quote) adds to the (*my*) experience.
I do very much recommend this CD, because even if you aren't stunned by The Scottish, there's also The Hebrides (great) and The Italian symphony.
--You may also want to check out Peter Maag's Scottish (on Decca Legendary Performances).
Good Mendelssohn and Karajan.......2002-05-23
These symphonies find Karajan in a positive mood. Even thirty years later, they still sound new and give pleasure. Both works have been lucky on record, so there is little reason to recommend this CD over those by Abbado, Solti, Blomstedt, or Maag. But it is good Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic play exceptionally well - a safe buy.
two Scots and an Italian.......2002-02-17
When I first fell in love with classical music it was generally the more accessible "show pieces" like Mendelssohn's overture "The Hebrides" that stirred my soul. In fact, one of the first discs I purchased was Dutoit's recording of the incidental music from "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Besides the great Scherzo and the Wedding March, the disc also features three of Mendelssohn's overtures-"The Hebrides" included. It has remained one of my favorite discs. I never thought I would a more moving version of "The Hebrides" than Dutoit's icy masterpiece.
I stand corrected. In this repackaged collection from Deutsche Grammophon's "The Originals" series, conductor Herbert von Karajan proves himself to be an adept interpreter of Mendelssohn's musical vision. Included are Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic's versions of "The Hebrides" overture and of Mendelssohn's Symphonies Nos. 3 and 4.
Karajan's and Dutoit's recordings of "The Hebrides" are really as different as apples and oranges. Dutoit (with his own forces from Montreal) makes the piece into a chilling, highflying affair. Karajan's version is warmer, a little more delicate (though it does thunder at times). I find both approaches valid and pleasing. I would not want to be without either; but if forced to choose would take Karajan's.
Karajan gives the Scottish Symphony (No.3) a somewhat psychologically dark, romantic yet precise reading. It starts prettily enough, but there are some dark shadows in Herbert's Highlands.
Karajan lacks a little of the Italiante style needed for a definitive rendition of Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony (No. 4), yet this does not stop this recording from being merely great. He does let his orchestra get carried away by the Presto of the finale (as all too many recordings do). Instead, Karajan's grasp of the work as a whole is evident throughout.
Overall, these recording are about as good of presentation to be found of Mendelssohn's more popular works. I recommend this disc without reservation to anyone who loves music.

Brilliant music by great musicians.......2007-05-09
I got this for my mother for her birthday, and she was thrilled. I listened to it with her, and it's simply delicious music. I recommend this to everyone who enjoys the guitar, Spanish music, and classical music.
The Royal Family of Spanish Guitar.......2007-05-07
Superb. There is just nothing more to say.
Spanish classical guitar.......2007-04-23
If you are in the mood for some beautiful Spanish guitar music than this disc will fill that void. The Romeros have been recording elegant music for years as the gift of guitar playing has been passed down generations. What is especially nice about this disc is that it features a variety of composers major works. The Romeros interpret Issac Albeniz, Enrique Granados, Federico Torroba, Villa-Lobos and Bach amongst many others. Curiously enough, the works of Rodrigo are misssing. To avoid confusion in your buying this disc it is important to note that all the Romeros do not play guitar together on this disc. There is the occasional duet and group performance on guitar but for the most part these are individual solos. The solo guitar of each Romero is enough to capture your attention but it is important to note that Celedonio Romero dominates this disc. The inclosed booklet is very informative and educational regarding the history of each composition; it is nice reading material while you are listening to these early music time pieces. Although the individual pieces are composed by different people there is a flow to the music. This is great music to relax the mind to , perfect for reading or participating in some quite endevor. Recommended for Spanish classical guitar aficionados.
Sumptuous performances!.......2006-03-16
Since their early years this curious ensemble has detached due their impeccable phrasing, sublime expression and admirable phrasing. (We should remind the case of the Abreu brothers in the Seventies as other emblematic example of familiar ensembles) This special circumstance has allowed them to achieve a very high place in guitar' s world.
Their elegant refinement is not wrangled with the sensitive and required mood. They have maintained the perfect balance, becoming an obligated reference every time they release a new album in the market.
His Rodrigo's performances possess that verve so characteristic of the great interpreters. Listening pieces as Madrigal Concerto, the original Concerto for three guitars and the unbeatable performance of Fandango.
This album contains some of the most representative miniaturist pieces of the Spanish repertoire.
So please, don' t think it over and acquire this album that will reward you every time you listen it.

keep on rockin..........2005-12-29
i remember when pearl jam played state college in 93[?]with the red hot chili peppers. grunge exploded, and pearl jam was leading the way. eddy and the band rocked; it was raw and mad and wonderful.
listening to the three-disc set i realize how times change; there was no war then, and there were few reasons to be raw and mad but pearl jam was just because. and some things do not change. pearl jam is still raw and mad and wonderful.
the tale of the time is captured, along with the big sound pearl jam is known for. the porch, fortunate son, keep on rocking, yellow ledbetter sequence is worth the cost alone.
i recommend 05.03.03 highly.
Pretty darn good.......2005-11-04
I've listened to many many many Pearl Jam concerts and this one is great. Though I'm not a big fan of Eddie's voice that night (though I am a big fan almost any other night), there are many memorable rarities such as "Release" and "Leaving Here".
With so many tracks, you're at least getting your money's worth.
Just keeps going and going and going..........2005-06-02
Ok, so I'm not the world's greatest Pearl Jam fan, but their records do spend a decent amount of time in my CD player. I got this CD because I had never heard them live, and kept hearing that any live recording was more than worth it. This one got strong reviews, had an enormous set list, so seemed like a good deal.
It is a great deal, but man this concert never ends. It starts off great, the sound quality is superb, but how many endless guitar solos do I have to listen to? There's something like 30 songs on this CD, and you REALLY feel it by the end. Every time I listen to it, I just start drifting out in the middle of the second disc. The short acoustic break is kind of not much at all, and the concert fizzles a bit after that, and gets quite repetitive.
I think this is very good overall, but only hardcore PJ fans will have the stamina to give this record their full attention. For the rest of us mortals, it is a good buy, but you'll probably end up listening to it in bits and pieces over a few months. Still a good CD to rock out to, and for the record, PJ do sound amazing live.
Pearl jam in state college!.......2005-02-24
Magical Nite! I was there! .. I was alive, spell bound, and over my head with the joy!
I know they are among the very best! But for those 4 hours .. they were number one!
One evening of my life I cannot top it, ever! Buy this!
The band's last great show?.......2004-11-08
Starting with their landmark Soldier Field show in 1995, I've been collecting live recordings from Pearl Jam. From that perspective, I've heard most of their songs performed a number of times, and State College does not provide a whole lot of 'definitive' live performances.
That said, this is a study in stamina and dedication, as well as professionalism. The best live band of this generation, playing the last show of the first leg of their tour, and they just don't want to leave. Maybe it's that they've learned to 'pace themselves' properly, maybe it's a renewed love for the music- whatever it is, you get 36 songs over 3 discs, and they plow through each of them with the passion and energy that they deserve. You get some things you don't get on other bootlegs on this one, such as a memorable, supposedly improvised, intro to Rearviewmirror. If you're a casual fan, you get practically all the hits on this one too. The performance of "Black" is particularly mindblowing, with the best Mike McCready solo I've ever heard. "Betterman" is also extended, with the "Save it for Later" tag.
Out of a collection of roughly 20 Pearl Jam bootlegs, this one's easily top 5. A great value for the money.
