AMAZING!!!.......2007-05-02
So I was at my local record store and I was intrigued by the Billie Holliday and Yeah Yeah Yeahs reference. The album was cheap enough to take a chance on and I'm very glad that I did. There are so many musical styles and theories going on in this album but they all equate to a rockin' good time! Imagine a band that can rock like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs but with a front woman who has a great voice to boot. This is a solid album from beginning to end, not one bad song, and I can't say enough good things about it.
Eclecticism of the finest (dis)order.......2007-04-24
The noisettes are a conceptual approach to sound that escapes the confines of pop music. They defy any single paradigm or set of assumptions, instead drawing upon multiple theories, styles, and ideas to gain complementary insights, leading us into a new dimension of sounds and thrills. To put it plainly, which is impossible with this trio - they rock!

Fight Song - Craziest 1:30 minute song out there.......2006-09-09
This album is really well done. Everyone out there should listen to the instrumental Fight Song! It has some really good drum work on the fast parts of the song, and will get you pumped for anything, especially a fight!
Fun ska at its best.......2006-07-20
I love this CD. The Aquabats have a great fun way of playing music and telling silly stories. The CD has a lot of funny songs like The Cat With Two Heads. The entire CD will have you smiling and feeling like dancing.
Easily Their Best.......2006-05-18
Although none of their albums are bad, this is by far the best one. The Fury of the Aquabats is 13 amazing songs that are hilarious and great to sing along to as well as 2 cool instrumental songs and one song im not crazy about (Attacked By Snakes). If you have the slightest liking for ska, funny music or just upbeat, fun music that makes you happy then this would easily be my number one reccommendation for you. All you need to do is pop it in and no matter how you were feeling before... you are guaranteed a smile after the first couple of seconds of Super Rad. It is just impossible to be sad when listening to these guys. My favorite songs are Super Rad, Red Sweater, Captain Hampton..., Story of Nothing, Idiot Box, My Skateboard, Lobster Bucket & Theme Song. This not only their best album but one of the best ska albums as well.
the aquabats will always be top notch.......2006-04-17
It seems like no matter what these guys come up against, they still manage to put on a great live show and release awesome albums.
The Fury Of The Aquabats is probably one of my favorite albums that the band has ever released. Even if these guys aren't on a major record label with tons of funding behind them, they put their heart and soul into the music... which fans can really respect!
If you're ready for some funky up-beat ska music, I'd encourage you to purchase The Fury Of The Aquabats today. You won't be wasting any money by investing in these guys, i promise!
My favorite and most listened to CD to date.......2006-03-15
I haven't listened to many other ska CDs, so I can't judge this compared to others; however it's a really great CD and I listen to it on a daily basis...really infectious. Especially good songs are Red Sweater and Cat With 2 Heads, though basically every song on this CD is worth a listen or 126.

Country Swing at its very best!!!.......2007-01-16
Asleep at the wheel scores big time, again! If ever there was group that could begin to fill the shoes of old time country swing, AATW would have to be right there at the top of the heap, without a doubt. If you like good swing & good fiddle, this CD is a must.
Under the X in Texas.......2007-01-11
Anything by Bob Wills is high on our list, and nobody does Bob better than Asleep at the Wheel. Great compilation of some of the greats of the greats.
Good compilation.......2002-11-06
Swing Time is a good compilation of some of the best songs from three other albums: 10, Western Standard Time, and their out-of-print 1974 Epic self-titled album. It's hard for an individual to put together a representative "best of" collection for a group like Asleep At The Wheel because they've jumped around from one label to the next, and the labels certainly wouldn't want to cooperate with each other. This is a good pick to represent the best of their work for Sony/Epic, if you don't want to collect all their recordings.
Only 80% good........2001-12-01
Some good stuff (especially "House of Blue Lights"), but there are better covers of "San Antonio Rose", "Walkin' the Floor Over You", and especially "Hot Rod Lincoln" (by Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen ,almost as good as the original) out there.

Hot Hits from Al Hirt.......2007-04-10
This CD has most of the hottest hits from Al Hirt. The performances are his best and the audio quality is awesome. I recommend this to anyone who loves jazz, dixieland or trumpet music.
simply the BEST.......2006-09-10
Al Hirt's virtuosity stands alone in the long line of trumpet greats. This CD proves that... many times over... especially with the YET to be equalled "I can't get started with you" of Bunny Berigan fame.Al's power and technical ability just bowls over even the most advanced listeners/players who can appreciate his talent and expertise.Al's real talent came from showmanship and his likeable style and light to catchy pop and dixieland themes."Fly Me to the Moon" and "Out of Nowhere" exhibit the melding of raw trumpet power and sweet memorable renditions of wonderful melodies of the past, but"Bourbon Street Parade" shows how really great Al and his talented band was in the live arena. This CD provides all the moods and variations of Mr Hirt's unbelievable mastery of the trumpet. He is missed by many and this CD is a tribute to that great talent.
GREAT COLLECTION.......2004-12-24
Al Hirt does have a way of showing himself approval of being the best out there. I still have some of his albums almost 'bout to collect a whole lot of 'em from the '60s and now. Excellent work from the man himself. R.I.P.
GREAT COLLECTION.......2000-04-18
AL HIRT HAd Great Texture In The Way He Played&this Collection Showcases His Ability. His Talent was Great. He Covered Many Styles.
It is truly, "The best".......1999-05-05

Good collection of miscellaneous songs.......2007-01-11
I tend to like No Doubt's odd collections, like BEACON STREET and EVERYTHING IN TIME, because the songs that are left off the albums (or done on the side or, in the case of BEACON STREET, recorded while waiting for other things to happen) are less slick pop and closer to their first album. I was a big fan of theirs before they were famous, when I was in high school, and tend to prefer their more ska and power-pop songs.
"Cellophane Boy," "I Throw My Toys Around," "Big Distraction," and "Full Circle" are the primary attractions of this CD.
[LEFT-OVERS] ARE ALWAYS GOOD IN {FOOD} & {MUSIC}.......2006-02-20
THE GREAT THING ABOUT THIS CD IS.
WHEN A PERSON OR GROUP MAKES AN ALBUM THEY WRITE & RECORD
A PILE OF SONGS.BUT YOU CAN FIT ONLY 80 MINUTES OF MUSIC ON ONE CD.THE GROUP AND THE RECORD COMPANY PICK THE SONGS THEY WANT TO BE SINGLES & MAKE VIDEOS TO;AND SONGS THEY THING WILL MAKE IT TO THE BILLBOARD CHARTS.SO A LOT OF SONGS THEY RECORD ARE PUT ON THE SHELF AND COLLECT DUST & SOMETIMES ARE NEVER HEARD;UNLESS THEY PUT THE SONGS ON THERE NEXT ALBUM.
BUT IF YOU ARE A FAN YOU WANT TO HEAR ALL THE SONGS NOT JUST THE
GREATEST HITS.AND GIVEN TIME & AND A OPEN MIND THIS PILE OF
UNRELEASED SONGS WILL BECOME YOUR NO DOUBT GREATEST HITS VOL.2
WHEN IT COMES TO NO DOUBT WITH GWEN STEFANI ON LEAD.YOU DON'T
HAVE TO HEAR THE SONGS ON THE RADIO,MTV OR VH1 TO FIND OUT THE SONGS ARE GREAT.PICK UP THIS CD AND FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF & TURN THE VOLUME IN MAX !!!

Everything In Time.......2005-10-07
First off, I would like to say that I love No Doubt (but though I love Gwen, and her music is good in its own way, I think that the solo career was a mistake). I think that they are the most talented band of all time, certainly the most talented band that I have ever heard. I just started to love No Doubt recently, and ordered all their CDs. Though this is a CD of B-Sides, I think that it is one of their best and that the songs should have all made it onto the records they were written for.
1. Big Distraction: 5/5. I love this song, I can't exactly explain why. The horn parts in it sort of sound like their early ska stuff, and I love the tune.
2. Leftovers: 4.5/5. Not my favorite on this CD, but it is good in its own way. It is a bit slow, and reminds me of a cross between something from Tragic Kingdom and Return of Saturn.
3. Under Construction: 5/5. I like the tune and guitar parts of this song. It reminds me of 'Six Feet Under' from Return of Saturn.
4. Beauty Contest: 5/5. A sad song, and has very deep lyrics. The phrase 'born to blossom, bloom to perish' is originally used in this song, but some of you may recognize it from Gwen's 'What You Waiting For?'. Wait until the last few seconds of the song, it's really cute!
5. Full Circle: 5/5. I love this song. The tune is really catchy, and the lyrics are good.
6. Cellophane Boy: 5/5. Another song that reminds me of a cross between something from Tragic Kingdom and Return of Saturn. Slow tune, not very catchy, but the lyrics are great.
7. Everything In Time (Los Angeles): 5/5. This song and Everything In Time (London) sound completely different, but they are both sad sounding and very beautiful lyrically.
8. You're So Foxy: 4/5. I like it, but it's just not one of my favorites. The verses are completely different from the chorus, and that's what sets it apart. On the inside cover of the CD, it said that this was a possible single, but if it was I don't think it would have even made it into the top 20. It doesn't sound like a song that you would hear on the radio.
9. Panic: 5/5. Love the lyrics, but the tune makes me all jittery. Another song where the verses sound completely different from the chorus.
10. New Friend: 5/5. This is one of my favorites from this CD. It's very reggae sounding, and the tune is so catchy! I think that this should have made it onto Rock Steady. Also, the song 'In My Head' from Rock Steady came from this song.
11. Everything In Time (London): 5/5. A very good song, great lyrics, but it makes me want to cry sometimes.
12. Sailin' On: 4/5. This was a cover song, it was originally by the Bad Brains. I like the way that they have adapted and made it theirs, their version is much slower than the original.
13. Oi To The World: 5/5. A really cool Christmas song. The lyrics are awesome, and though this wasn't their song originally, Gwen sounds truly great singing it.
14. I Throw My Toys Around: 5/5. This song was from the Rugrats movie, and features Elvis Costello. The tune is slow but catchy, and the lyrics are really cute.
15. New & Approved: 4/5. The remix is good, but goes on for too long. Personally, I liked the original better.
16 and 17. A Real Love Survives and A Rock Steady Vibe: 3/5. Catchy beat, but it isn't really by No Doubt. It mostly just has Miss Dynamite and Sweetie Irie rapping, and then occasionally has Gwen saying "A real love survives" in the background. Not my favorites.
Read this!.......2005-08-10
No Doubt is one of those bands that trys new things, but still acts like.....themselves! They don't try to be someone that everyone likes, they just act like who they really are, and if fans don't accept them, then....fans don't accept them....but, saying that I would also like to add, that not everybody has the same taste---and therefore, don't always like the same genre of music.. but all I wanted to point out, is that Gwen is a beautiful hearted girl, and she loves being an artist and preforming and all that stuff.........this CD is one of the best that I've listened to in a really...really long time!!!! If you don't consider buying this CD, you're crazy!
Fantastic!!!.......2005-01-06
If you like classic No Doubt (tragic Kingdom & Return of Saturn), this CD is for you! I LOVE it! It's B-sides from when No Doubt was still Ska-ish--before Gwen started experimenting with the hip hop/R&B. There are a few--maybe 3 songs I don't really like that are remixes, but the other 15 are great! BUY IT!

Album Description
A brutal force of punk energy, Time Again spent most of 2005 touring the US and selling 10,000 copies of their self-titled debut EP (Rancid Records), leaving an explosive trail of punk rock ruckus while sharing stages with Circle Jerks, Adolescents, Social Distortion, and TSOL, to name a few. They played the 2005 Warped Tour and will tour throughout 2006. XM Radio selected their EP as one of the top ten albums of 2005. Following bands like The Casualties and The Unseen, Time Again will be the breakout punk band of 2006. Guest vocals on "Stories Are True" by Tim Armstrong (Rancid).
Customer Reviews:
Tired of waitin' for the new RANCID album? Buy some TIME AGAIN then!.......2006-12-28
This is a pretty cool CD. Yes, it sounds almost exactly like something Rancid would have done 10 years ago, but it ain't bad. You can hear that they do have passion at least, and that they do enjoy what they are doing and that they're not lying about what they're singing about. How COULD you lie about stuff like that? Anyway, I would suggest listening to the songs 'Broken Bodies', 'Cold Concrete', 'Kenny' and 'Life on the Run'. That will give you a good idea of how the rest of the album sounds. If you like it, great. Buy it then. If you don't, well...don't. Cheers!!
as if.......2006-10-03
a lot of people write this band off as being a carbon copy of rancid...say what you want but rancids been one of my fav bands since i was 16...yes..the singer..does sound very very similiar to tim..yes alot of the themes (junkies, hookers, being punk, ect..) do make their way on this album. a lot like a lot of early rancid's work think "lets go" and the s/t album...perhaps with a bit of "..and out come the wolves"..but you know what? all three of those albums are amazing...so how can time again possibly suck? my fav song on this album right now is the last song "street walker" a lil ska ditty bout hookers....so damn catchy
Rancid Clones? Yes... Good Music? Yes!.......2006-08-12
This band does sound exactly like Rancid, but I'm very happy with this album none-the-less. If you have been hoping for another Rancid release like "Let's Go!" or "...And Out Come the Wolves" then pick up this album, you won't regret it. You will be singing along within 30 seconds of pushing "play" on your stereo.
hmmmmm....have I heard this before........2006-05-31
Time Again is a great band from California. They released a E.P. on Rancid Records before moving to Hellcat and releasing this fine peice of music art. People have dogged on them in the past for ripping off Rancid. But Rancid is a good band. And this band just looks up to them. The song writing is a bit like Rancid, but these guys know what its like to really go through what they are talking about in their songs. If you like Rancid then pick this up. If you dont like Rancid dont bother to pick this up because you'll hate it. I love Rancid and I love Time Again. Amazing album
It's Time Again... for Rancid!.......2006-05-20
They may be shameless Rancid clones down to the raspy lisp and songs about junkies, I mean, a complete and utter walking Rancid cliche, but at least the album is better than anything the Rancid crew's done in the past 10 years. And there are worse bands to emulate than Rancid. I mean, thank god they're not trying to sound like Ben Folds Five or something.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
The movie version of The Rocky Horror Show has turned into such an enduring cult success that it has pretty much obliterated the fact that it all started with a stage show. And now Richard O'Brien's musical is back on stage, where some say it truly belongs (it was nominated for the category Best Revival of a Musical in the 2001 Tony Awards). With a great cast that includes Dick Cavett, Alice Ripley (Janet), Tom Hewitt (Frank 'N' Furter), and Daphne Rubin-Vega (Magenta), the revival fires on all cylinders. Note that while Joan Jett was in the cast as Columbia, she's not on the CD (Kristen Lee Kelly is). But Lea DeLaria, last seen stealing the show in On the Town, more than compensates by playing both Eddie (Meat Loaf in the movie!) and Dr. Scott--and doing great by both. As a bonus, the song "Once in a While" is back after being cut from the movie. Bursting with energy, this recording brings the rock back in Rocky. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Reviews:
One of my favorite cast recordings.......2007-01-17
This was the first Rocky Horror album I've ever listened to besides the movie soundtrack. Despite the lack of Joan Jett as Columbia and the 2nd Usherette, this album is sweet. Daphne-Rubin Vega is perfect as Magenta. And Tom Hewlett 's interpretation as Frank N. Furter is just in sync with the character. But he's still no Tim Curry. And the rest of the cast is sublime. And with Dick Cavett as the Criminologist and famed lesbian comedienne Lea DeLaria as both Eddie and Dr. Scott is just excellent.
Thougt You Were The Candyman Didn't ya freggy!.......2006-06-22
I thought that this was gonna be just another edition of the Rocky Horror Show. But boy was I wrong.I loved it they really modernized and gave it more of a Rock flavor than in the original play which was more pop.I just loved how they had the Overture and Space shipa partof the cd.They really recreated great for broadway. When i heard that broadway was doing Then Rocky Horror Show I didn't know what to think.Because Rocky Horror had been an off-broadway show for many years. The thought of it being onBroadway was just amazing Because people back in the 70's and 80's always thought that The Rocky Horror Show was much too trashy to be put on Broadway.Because you always think about broadway plays as being classy and eligent. They didn't want a play about Sex and Horror and Gay Transvestites. But this was just a head turner.I loved it.It's definitely 5 stars. The cd quality was great. It was so professionally done and it was great.I think any RHS Fan will love it.This was no candyman!
The Rockiest Recording to Date.......2006-06-07
This 2000 Broadway revival of the cult classic THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW boasts a completely re-vamped orchestration of Richard O'Brien's score. This is certainly the most rock-fused version of these songs to date, and right from the "Overture" the listener can assume this. Many may not be able to accept this harder, bolder score and I myself am a bit skeptical, considering the more piano-driven and sci-fi sounding orchestrations of the film soundtrack or Roxy cast recording. However, it is so interesting to hear these songs done like this that I cannot help but enjoy it. The performances are half-and-half. Daphne Rubin-Vega belts out the opening number in that great gravelly voice she has, and Raul Esparzza sends chills down my spine every time I hear his two great solo moments ("The darkness must flow down the river...." and "Frank 'N' Furter, it's all over..."). Sebastian LaCause is amazing as Rocky, as thankless a part that is. Eddie and Dr. Scott being portrayed by a woman (Lea DeLaria) is one of the strangest casting decisions ever and is too distracting to be able to even listen to her (his? I don't know!!!) songs: "Hot Patootie" and "Eddie's Teddy." Tom Hewitt does his best as Frank 'N' Furter, but the character was so well defined by Tim Curry in the film (one of the most underrated performances ever) that one can't help but ignore him. I'd say that this recording is something every ROCKY HORROR fan should listen to; it just all depends on whether you like the new or original orchestrations.
Good recording, bad show........2006-03-10
Rocky Horror is an American institution. It's indelible, unforgettable, and entirely unique. But without the audience participation, the show is revealed - it's simply not very good. It's a passable (if dated) parody of '50s B-movies with a transvestite main character and some halfway decent songs. The show lives with and dies without an audience. The lyrics, the characters - nothing is half as fun without the audience throwing and shouting and bantering right along.
That said, this is a VERY good recording of what's there. Tom Hewitt does as good a job as anyone trying to fill Tim Curry's sequined heels, and brings some nice twists to the table instead of going the Curry-imitation route. Raul Esparza as Riff-Raff is electric - his rendition of "Time Warp" is unlike anything else you're likely to hear on a cast recording. He blasts it right into outer space, screaming like the world's going to end. Daphne Rubin-Vega is plenty of fun as Columbia, giving a nicely sinuous and raw-edged sexiness to the role. The orchestra gives their all to the new arrangements, and they sound crystal clear.
It's definitely the best recording of the show available, even sans Tim Curry.
Oh Daphne!.......2005-12-29
Most of the reviews have it right here - this production wasn't really Rocky at it's best. That being said, I must say that Daphne Ruben-Vega as magenta is probably one of the most interesting, refreshing, and note worthy things about this recording. Very cool in that regard.
That's All...

Brilliant.......2004-02-13
Having had the pleasure of seeing the band live in Amsterdam I can honestly say they are the best ska band in the world and deserve worldwide recognition.
Uplifting & Fun.......2003-11-26
Great music to listen to any time and anywhere!!!
Late Night Video.......2002-01-26
I was flipping through the channels one night and flipped past a Music Video. Something about it made me switch back. It was the Video for Hepcat's "No Worries". By the end of the Video I was hooked on the song. I spent the next several days trying to find the CD. I finally found a record shop in Redbank New Jersey that had the CD.
I was shocked they even knew who Hepcat was. I soon found out that this was one great band. I'm still addicted to "No Worries", and can't help dancing and singing when I hear it, but the rest of the CD is excellent also. This is one Cd that is well worth it's price.
Never leaves the CD deck.......2001-03-04
This album is definitely my favorite out of my collection. Its soulful melodies, talented instrumentals and lighthearted lyrics will brighten up your day. This album also has many instrumentals, which is my favorite aspect of Hepcat's music. Tommy's Song, Pharoahs Dream, and Baby Blues are the ultimate relaxation songs! So go and get this album, play it on a sunny day and drift away to the shores of Kingston and Montego Bay!
GOOD JOB.......2000-04-18
Great CD! In my opinion the best group sharing the privilege with The Slackers. Deston Berry composes, plays and sings chorus, one of the ska personalities round the world. Great vocals (Alex Dessert and Greg Lee). The horn section, the lower rating for this exceptional group.

A thematically-appropriate followup to 1994's Liquor in the Front, this EP finds the Texas tornado in a (somewhat) subdued mode. But even though the pedal is off the metal, the party remains in full swing since Rev. Jim Heath can't help but be the host with the most, an attitude that shines through on low-key loungers like "That's Showbiz." And while the disc does lack the over-the-top energy of earlier releases, the Rev. and his disciples haven't totally disavowed the psychobilLy gospel: for all its suave veneer, the title track still sounds more like an invitation to quaff a cuppa moonshine than an iced cocktail. --David Sprague
Customer Reviews:
a mixed bag.......2006-01-18
There are some great songs on this one, notably "Big Red Rocket of Love" and the title track, but a lot of it feels like filler. "Crooked Cigarette" and "Generation Why" really don't go anywhere and also suffer from some of the Reverend's dumbest lyrics, and a lot of the music feels like the band is just going through the motions. There are still enough high points to make this worth it for the fans, but this album can't hold a candle to "Full Custom Gospel Sounds" or "Liquor in the Front".
Reverend Horton Heat - 'It's Martini Time' (Interscope) 3 1/2 stars.......2005-07-23
Basically,if you like good old fashioned straight ahead rockabilly with a 'swing' attitude, you should finding this CD appealing.I've always been sort of a fair weather fan of the Reverend and his rocking trio. This disc is probably one of two of his titles I even have a copy of.The absolute best cut here is without a doubt in my mind "Now,Right Now" with other notable tracks being "Big Red Rocket Of Love"(sounds like a South Park episode, doesn't it?),title cut "It's Martini Time",the foot-stomper "Rock The Joint" and "Forbidden Jungle".
Who says it's not good??.......2002-06-19
This is the second of the Rev's albums I've bought, and despite what the other reviewers thought, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I must say it's not as good as "Smoke 'em..." but I loved it nonetheless. Great guitar licks and tongue-in-cheek lyrics make for a great listening experience.
All praise the Reverend!!.......2001-04-10
The Reverend Horton Heat can slam you silly. The Reverend can use his holy powers to make you swing and snap the fingers baby. What else can be said except, "Get this disc"? Some have said this is not thier best work. if this is the case you should probably get this one first and see how good thier "bad" stuff is.
Tracks like Big Red Rocket of Love, Time to Pray, and It's Martini Time are rockin', rollin' tunes that any rock fan should appreciate. Crooked Cigarette and Slingshot are of a more mellow, foot tapping speed that does a nice job of balancing out the disc.
If not for on-line mp3s, I never would have heard the stuff that makes these guys worth the money. Now I have to add the rest to my collection. Why can't radio be more like this? Donate your cash today good disciple. Support The Reverend Horton Heat.

First recorded in 1949, this band was the side project of a group of animators at the Walt Disney studios; this two-CD set collects the group's recordings up to 1954. The Firehouse Five began at the peak of the California revival of traditional jazz, when the music was sharply divided into warring camps and traditions were jealously defended. But there was nothing doctrinaire about the band's enthusiastic, almost frenetic, approach. Owing as much to vaudeville as it did to New Orleans jazz, it invoked the spirit of America's early popular music, including novelty tunes like "Who Walks in When I Walk Out." The sirens and other sound effects that the band added to its music even suggest a kinship with its inspired contemporary Spike Jones. Though these recordings may send traditional purists into apoplexy, the level of musicianship is surprisingly high and the spirit is infectious. --Stuart Broomer

Really is Good Time Jazz!!!.......2007-04-12
I am no musical scholar but i have always been fascinated by the Prosperous, wild, and immoral times of the roaring 20's. When you listen to this music you can picture those times with cop cars chasing after gangsters in a high speed chase with Tommy Guns Blazing. You can picture happy people doing the Charleston and flappers doing their naughty dances. You can picture guys like Babe Ruth and Jack Dempsey in a speak easy pounding down beer after beer and giving every cutie on the dance floor a spin. This music captures the upbeat happy times of the ragtime, dixeland wild era of our countries history. If you liked the music in the film The Sting......if you like Rag and Dixie.......then this is that music on Steroids. Most reviews classify this group as a more like a jazz band that had costumes and antics and made some toe tappers. Believe me when i tell you that i'm looking at the big picture and i mean what i say when i say that if i were to pick one album to represent what the Music of Americana was during the teens and 20's.........this would be the album. There are some songs on this album that get your blood up so much that you wish you could intimidate a cop for no reason into a high speed chase with tommy guns ablazing. It is the funnest, wildest, toe tappin, good time jazz you'll ever hear. But It!!
Kimball World.......2005-08-06
A long time ago it took me a short while to figure out the things I liked about Disney were all Ward Kimball efforts. In fact, I didn't like straight-up Disney product at all. Hated it in fact. No balls, sap-headed, a bit too precious. Much of Disney couldn't stand Ward either but Walt had a special place in his heart for the maniac. He knew nothing would fly in vison and magic-land unless there was a Trickster there to give it a kick in the arse--something the modern Disney has completely forgotten.
I've heard these wonderful recordings of the band Ward got together described as corny. Banana oil! They're fun and ironic and if you listen carefully you'll hear the spirit of Spike Jones in most of them and you'll also hear the spirit of Ward years later in the Squirrel Nut Zippers (check out the first cut on their Music for Lovers album!). We were starting to see a revival of healthy fun, style, and zaniness in the world until that drip and his entourage of downers turned up in the White House. And of course 9-11 knocked it all into a cocked hat. Too bad.
So screw 'em. Pick this up and blast it while driving through town in your SUV. Order the recently released Thin Man collection and that 90s screwball masterpiece, "Freaked." Hey, one of those Thin Man flicks has a bonus cartoon--Screwy Squirrel dealing with a saccharine Disney-type cutsey-bootsy bunny. Cool. Fight the drips.
Master Animators, Amazing Musicians.......2002-08-07
I'd been thinking of getting a Firehouse Five Plus Two cd for many years, but it was the recent passing of Ward Kimball (the founder of the group and the animator behind such famous Disney characters like Jiminy Cricket) that made me search for their cds on Amazon.
I have always enjoyed the taped performances I've seen by the group (you can catch them on the "Disneyland, USA" DVD released last year), but listening to the music--a frentic, frantic, and altogether fun collection--one can really sense that these men, so reknowned for their artistic talent, were blessed with a multiplicty of talents.
It's not intended to be listened to as background music for a quiet evening at home--the fire bells at the beginning of Disc One makes that quite clear--but it definitely is meant to be listened to when you feel like smiling, enjoying some wonderful dixieland jazz (one might feel inclined to look for the nearest speakeasy and dance the charleston), and remembering some of the greatest animators who ever lived, put on this collection, which highlights some of their greatest moments.
Wonderful happy music.......1999-12-05
The Firehouse Five Plus Two were wonderful musicians. This is a fact often overlooked, as they clearly played for fun -- both the listeners' and their own. In their early years, their humor and slapstick antics on stage often obscured their excellent musicianship. This double CD of their earlier recordings shows their growth and development, but the goofiness which characterized their live performances is not present in these studio recordings. In my view, they did not reach their peak till the arrival of George Probert and his magnificent soprano sax playing; Probert appears on only a few of these tunes. But the infectious energy and joy of this band was apparent from the start, and these songs can be played again and again with satisfaction and joy.
Excellent - You won't regret it !!!!.......1999-10-09
I bought it without knowing who these guys were. After talking with some older people they told me that Firehouse Five plus Two had been very famous in the 50's. This CD is a great selection. The sound is very good considering that are recordings for the 40's and 50's. If you like this kind of music you'll find here the best.
