While Disney has successfully cornered the market for younger teens with its Disney Channel musicals, Step Up shows the company (through its Buena Vista subsidiary) addressing the older high-school set with equal flair. Directed and choreographed by Anne Fletcher (choreographer of the excellent Bring It On), the musical depicts a clash between kids representing "street" and more formal dance, though its soundtrack is resolutely turned toward the R&B/hip-hop/dancehall axis. The CD starts off with three fab collaborations: "'Bout It" by Yung Joc and 3LW, Ciara and Chamillionaire's fantastically elastic "Get Up" (which may be even better than Ciara's smash hit "1, 2"), and Sean Paul and Keyshia Cole's "(When You Gonna) Give It Up to Me." But the three most dance-inducing tracks are solo ones: Kelis is at her funkiest on "80's Joint," and it's practically impossible to stay still during Drew Sidora's bouncy "Til the Dawn" (including an Earth, Wind & Fire sample) and Jamie Scott's Prince-esque "Made." Don't miss, tucked toward the end, Deep Inside's "Lovely" and Gina René's "U Must Be," two wickedly catchy slow songs. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

4 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......2007-03-23

This has to be one of the best soundtracks. A lively blend of hip-hop and classic orchestra, sweet, soothing, heartfelt ballads from some of the generation's best and hottest artists. An upbeat, alive album. A definate keeper!

5 out of 5 stars Step Up.......2007-03-16

This is a very good CD. It has all the songs on it that we loved in the movie. We are very pleased.

5 out of 5 stars A soundtrack that shines!.......2007-01-18

Featuring some of the best in new hip/hop, the soundtrack to the impressive `Step Up' has a lot to offer. It's about time that a hip/hop based soundtrack has offered such an impressive track listing. The infectious `Get Up' by superstar Ciara & rapper Chamillionaire may very well be the most addicting and dance worthy track here. Sean Paul is helped out on his track by the lovely and talented Keyshia Cole (just LOVE her) and Yung Joc gets a workout with 3LW (didn't know they were still around...didn't they ditch to become Cheetah Girls???)

Some major highlights come from two of the supporting stars of the film, Mario and Drew Sidora who heat things up together on `For the Love' and then Drew blazes the track on `Til the Dawn'. Kelis does very well (although I have trouble liking anything she does lately...after putting out filth like `Bossy' I just cringe at the thought of her) and the likes of Anthony Hamilton shine brightly. Featuring hit-makers like Chris Brown and Petey Pablo and some little known talent like Gina Rene and Deep Inside (who hold their own) `Step Up' is one of the biggest surprises of last year, not only in film form but on disc as well!

4 out of 5 stars Best part of the movie.......2007-01-04

Great soundtrack. Really dug the different mixes of hip hop with underlying orchestra tones. 99% of the times I buy soundtracks are when the movie was so mediocre I'm looking for something else to keep my attention. The acting was blah, but the dancing was fabulous. A couple of the love ballads I skip over, because I don't really appreciate high-pitched R&B men's voices, but overall, good dance music.

3 out of 5 stars Neither Circus nor Spectacular, but it is Karl King........2006-10-15

Having played a number of times under Karl King, I had great expectations for this CD. Alas, it was not to be. The music is there, the musicians play all the right notes and the conductor keeps time. The recording is only mediocre, of Laserlight quality, and the performance is not what I expected from what they call a "Circus Band." Indeed, the liner notes state that the band is mostly students and professionals from the Philadelphia area. In other words, a "pick up" band. And the conductor seems to have no circus experience only small town symphony experience (from the puffery in the liner notes). From listening, it would appear that he has never even heard a real circus band. Both conductor and band would not last a day at a real circus. I do have a suspicion, however, that the musicians would do better under a better conductor.

Now, if they called themselves a concert band, that would be accurate and fair, and would not have dashed my hopes, as they are OK as a concert band. But just OK.

Of course, a concert band can indeed generate all the excitement of a bona fide circus band, as Frederick Fennell so aptly demonstrated on his Mercury recordings.

Now, if you want real circus music played by a real circus band, get a Merle Evans recording.

However, having said all that, I will keep the album, as I have always been a Karl King fan, and it is fine music decently played by an OK concert band.

5 out of 5 stars Great circus music.......2005-08-12

I needed some circus music to promote a fundraiser our Lion's club was having (a circus). I got the CD on time and it sounded great. I could not find this type of music anywhere else. Thanks.

3 out of 5 stars Good music, mediocre playing.......2001-11-19

It was indeed exciting to find so many of Karl King's marches on one disc. The band's playing, however leaves a lot to be desired, as does the sound quality of the disc. The balance is poor, with a very annoying tenor sax playing loud and out-of-tune on every cut. Buy this if you are a march collector (which I am), but I do not recommend it for its entertainment value. Get the "Screamers" disc by Fennell and Eastman for a far superior set of circus marches with great playing and sound.

4 out of 5 stars Review of Circus Spectacular.......2000-12-07

Certainly the best thing about this CD is that there are many of Karl King's marches that have probably never been recorded previously, which is curious, since some of them rank with his best. The curious thing about this CD, on the other hand, is that it is supposedly a circus album, but only a few marches were actually written for the "big top". This band is not the best I have heard - recommend listening with headphones, to get a much clearer, less muddled sound. King was only kind of a contemporary of Sousa, having lived 35-40 years later. He actually published more marches than Sousa, and generally wrote in a style that was "softer" than the March King. Sousa wrote mostly military-style marches (better than anyone else ever has, of course), whereas King wrote many military as well as circus marches, and marches in a simpler style, suitable for school bands.

5 out of 5 stars Circus Spectacular.......2000-08-12

This recording of music by Karl King is absolutely splendid -it contains 28 tracks most of which I have certainly not heard before - I particularly liked the tempos of the marches - not too quick but just right - the band is good (although I had never heard of them) - I came across this recording by chance and I'm glad I did - highly recommended

Good news for 'Boys fans. Two years after Take Me to Your Leader comes Step Up to the Microphone. Indeed a step up, the contemporary Christian group's seventh updates and augments their sound with splashes of Britpop (albeit after the wave has crested) and a more current, modern rock feel. There are fewer bouncy dance-pop tunes here, but rhythm has by no means been forsaken for accent. What they have gained is a passion for the irresistible hook. Listen to opening track "WooHoo," with its grungy intro giving way to a tight groove and an infectious chorus. Or the soaring melodies of "Entertaining Angels" and "Hallelujah." If you weren't a fan before, do yourself a favor: step up and listen to the News. --Jerry Chamberlain

Good music for anyone to listen to at any age. Will put a smile on your face.

2 out of 5 stars A disquieting effort indeed.......2006-09-07

I was rather disappointed with the group here. I don't know if it was the fact they produced this album themselves, or if they tried to sound too techno here, but this just didn't have the appeal as "Take Me To Your Leader" did. I honestly thought the Newsboys had found thier niche when Steve Taylor began producing the band, but here they really didn't do good. "WooHoo" what's this all about? Is it a reaction to what was happening in churches all around the world with the revival movements? Then there's the second song that was forgettable. I didn't play "Entertaining Angels" because I didn't have to it's rather good. However, the majority of this is alot of techno junk that just didn't make the grade. I know with "WooHoo" the intro is absolutely terrible. I found no joy, no peace, or anything that would make me shout "This is of God". I know some people will think that God will strike me with a bolt of lightning for saying this, but guess what? I can't fake this it's terrible, and I can only stick with "Take Me To Your Leader". After this, and all the other Newsboys albums I just can't seem to enjoy them anymore. I guess another thing with this is that this was the last album released on Star Song record label. Another death besides this album.

5 out of 5 stars EASILY THE BEST!.......2004-06-06

WOW! This album is PURE GOLD! It's SOOOOO fun, and also kind of comforting to me. I don't really like to pick "favorites" when it comes to the Newsboys, but if I had to pick a favorite album they've done, this would probably be it. If I had to pick favorite songs on it, they would be Woohoo, Entertaining Angels, Believe, Truth Be Known-Everybody Gets A Shot (WAY awesomer when live!), Deep End, and especially Hallelujah; It's probably my favorite song of all time. If you read the lyrics, then you'll know what I'm like, hopeful when all seems hopeless. Anyway, EVERY SINGLE Newsboys freak must have this album. When I say freak, I mean CRAZY ABOUT THE NEWSBOYS. Go out and get it!! ROCK ON, NEWSBOYS!! PLEEEASE come to Virginia again!!

5 out of 5 stars Step up to this!.......2003-02-02

This CD is pure Newsboys style. Any Newsboys fan could tell you, if you turned on your radio to any good christian station, and you heard one of the songs off this CD, even if you had never heard it before, you would know it was the Newsboys. They have a totally unique style, I've never heard it in any other band. Their music isn't rock AND pop, its both,so mixed together that it really become's its own genre. All that to say that this CD probably is their best one yet. Only for true Newsboys fans. In this CD they stay 100% true to their "it could only be the Newsboys" style. Don't be a wimp and shy away from buying this CD without listning to it first. Who knows? Someone like moi, could take the last one.:)

On the swaggering kickoff track to his third album, Charlie Robison insists that he's the "right man for the job," and the rest of the album bolsters his claim. In this case, the job for the honky-tonk Texan is to return some creative daring, roadhouse energy, and edgy humor to the contemporary country mainstream, where male artistry in particular has been suffering from the cookie-cutter blands. Highlights range from a rollicking remake of NRBQ's "I Want You Bad" to a sardonic duet on "The Wedding Song" with the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines (whose bandmate Emily Robison is Charlie's wife). Not quite as rebellious as the previous Life of the Party, Step Right Up is more radio-friendly, giving Robison a better chance of balancing alt-country credibility and commercial country hits than any artist this side of Dwight Yoakam. --Don McLeese

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great Artist, Great Album.......2005-02-18

Charlie Robison is the definition of country music the way it should be. He isn't commercialized, poppy, or a "wanna-be-Buffet". Charlie, along with brother Bruce Robison and Cory Morrow are practically the only country musicians i listen to nowadays. Some of his best songs on this disc would be "The Preacher", "The Wedding Song", "John O'Reilly", and "Tonight". Buy this cd!!!!!!!!

1 out of 5 stars I would've given less than 1 star if I could........2004-03-01

This is an awful album. Proving that talent doesn't necessarily run in the family, Charlie demonstrates on this disc that he isn't in the same league as a singer or songwriter as his brother, Bruce Robison.

If Charlie hadn't married into the Dixie Chicks, he would still be mired in well-deserved obscurity, playing frat parties in Texas.

5 out of 5 stars No selling out for Charlie........2004-01-08

You read reviews saying Charlie sold out with this release; I beg to differ. Mainstream radio wouldn't play this if their life depended on it! While he explores a couple of different avenues on two songs, this is far from selling out. You rarely hear the kind of rough and rumble, kick-ass style of country twang displayed here anymore. Some folks keep comparing this to his previous disc, and that's too bad for them, cause I can't see what the problem is here. Fickleness keeps some people from enjoying damn fine music. In this case, it's fine Texas music.

4 out of 5 stars I like the damn thing.......2002-03-15

This is a good disk. The life of the party is a good disk too. I enjoy this one better than Life of the party. I know alot of poeple don't but that is me. I enjoyed "tonight" and the wedding song cracks me up. I understand this a step toward mainstream but I think he has been crass enough to keep himslef off the Clear channel network. Those guys wouldn't DARE take a chance of offending anyone anywhere.
Back to the point. I like Life Of the Party. I like this one too.

1 out of 5 stars Are you sure Hank done it this way???.......2002-02-24

This album is a major disappointment for a myriad of reasons: It's not Charlie's "break out," and it certainly doesn't represent his growth as an artist. On "Step Right Up" Charlie precedes to give away his very best qualities in favor of pursuing a mainstream country sound. This is OK, I guess, if you like more a more mainstream Nashville sound, but the overwhelming majority of the folks who know and love Charlie's music HATE this sort of stuff. I don't own any mainstream country, and I rather be forced to run around naked in the 4th circle of hell than have to listen to posers like Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks. Every single Charlie fan I know feels the same way--but hey, I do live in a small town, so what do we know. My point is, if Charlie wants to gain more exposure, he'd better do it by being himself and sticking to what he's truly gifted at, and not dumbing down his music for mass appeal.

FURTHERMORE, the fella below who says Charlie is "Better than Steve Earle" must be on glue. That's like than saying Oasis are better than the Beatles, or that Lenny Kravitz is better than Hendrix. BEWARE: Mark Probably doesn't listen to much music that he doesn't hear on his radio first, and probably pats himself on the back for discovering an artist as "edgy" as Charlie. Whatever, dude-Charlie is great and all, but if you knew at all what you were talking about, you'd recognize Steve Earle's obvious influence on Charlie's voice (not to mention his songwriting). And don't go bashing NPR, either, because Charlie's gotten more play there than on any of the 5 corporate controlled stations you've got programmed into your car, that's FOR SURE. Don't want your money "wasted" on NPR? Well, Steve Earle and I don't want our money spent on State subsidized killing, either. But I digress...

Charlie has made a mistake. Buy "Life of the Party" instead, and wait for this phase to pass, and for the Nashvirus to work its way out of his system. Charlie doesn't seem too proud of this record, either: just tonight he appeared on the Grand `Ol Opry (for the first time!) and played "My Hometown" (self-censored, none-the-less), and Bob Wills' "Stay All Night." Hmmmmm...

Waylon is no longer with us. There is a huge gap in Country's vast, colorful, flowing fabric that must be filled. Hopefully, artists like Charlie, his Brother Bruce, along with Jack Ingram, Todd Snider, Hank III, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Ryan Adams and others can carry on this great creative tradition. Charlie is certainly capable--but this album turns away, in pursuit of soft-rock mass appeal. This ain't how `Ol Waylon said it ought to be. We can only wait and see if his next effort is true.

Album Description

Heavyweight funk act The Bamboos hail from Australia and their first 7" single quickly made waves around the world and earned them a single deal with Kenny Dope and Keb Darge's Kay Dee label. "Tighten Up" b/w "Voodoo Doll" cemented their reputation amongst the global funk community. UK based Tru Thoughts signed the act for an album and Ubiquity picked-up the record for North America. This will be the 4th record to be released under the Tru Thoughts/Ubiquity arrangement following on from Quantic Soul Orchestra, Nostalgia 77, and Quantic album releases. Despite their raw funk flavor, The Bamboos obviously grew-up on hip hop and are into the heavy dance floor beats, in fact vocalist Alice Russell guests on a cover version of the UK broken beat anthem "Transcend Me" (originally by Bugz in the Attic's Afronaught).

5 out of 5 stars Raw and funky.......2007-06-26

As a funk enthusiast, I was completely satisfied with this album. The recordings manage to capture a live feel. Alice Russel's vocals on "Step It Up" are among the highlights. Fans of Breakestra will probably find that this suits their musical tastes.

4 out of 5 stars Purchased for business, but enjoying it personally.......2007-02-06

I purchased this CD for the song "Step It Up." The theme for Girl Scout cookie sales this year is "Step It Up." The song has a great beat and the girls enjoyed dancing to it. The rest of the CD is instrumental. It's a great CD to listen to while unwinding or cleaning the house!

4 out of 5 stars Step it Up - Old School Oz Style.......2007-01-10

I loved this album. Strangely enough I was introduced to the title song by Gray's Anatomy where I just had to find out who was singing that lead (Alice Russell). The rest of the album is like the R& B music I grew up with. Definitely worth a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Tight funk band.......2006-07-19

Big band funk lives. Tighter than Breakestra. For the ultimate, listen to Keb Darge Presents the New Mastersounds. To get back to the roots of this sound, get Tower of Power's (1) East Bay Grease and (2) Back to Oakland.

4 out of 5 stars Funky Kupka Side Project.......2004-09-27

With all of the Tower of Power fans out there I'm surprised I'm writing the first review. If you are a TOP complete-ist you will definitely want to get this CD. Songs, 1,3,5,6,7,9 and 11 are funky enought to satisfy the most ardent of TOP fans. The lead singers include, Glenn Walters, Huey Lewis (of the News), Bill Champlin (of the Sons of Champlin and Chicago) and others. Bill Champlin's talents are wasted in Chicago. His chops are so funky on "Color Me Gone" I had to refer to the liner notes to verify it was him singing. Huey Lewis is a natural in the heavy R&B funk setting that the TOP horns lay down (don't forget, the TOP horn appeared on early Huey Lewis and the News albums). As for the musicians, Mic Gillette, Rocco Prestia, Lenny Pickett, David Garibaldi and Jeff Tamlier, all longtime TOP members, are core members of the Strokeland Superband. This would have earned five stars but the slow songs are predictable with nothing happening musically. Overall a strong effort. I hope Kupka and the boys plan on more.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars I got a kick out of this one.......2004-07-26

This two CD compilation makes for an interesting package. One Step Up is a collection of new (1997) covers of Springsteen tunes. Two Steps Back is older covers recorded by a variety of artists over the years (the earliest from 1974.) Each set has some high points worth a listen and more than a few clunkers. The fun of this type of collection is that Springsteen's songs can hold up to different arrangements and occasionally someone makes these songs their own.
One Step Up:
The good ones-
Okay, time for a sacrilege. I think John Wesley Harding's cover of "Jackson Cage" beats Springsteen's. He seems to capture the pain and suffering so much better by stripping the song down to its basic elements.
John Hiatt- Totally rocks "Johnny 99." This is why I buy these things. Some artists can really make these songs into something brand new.
Dave Alvin- I really like the reason he chose "Seeds." He makes it work.
Joe Grushecky- Has a lot of fun with one of Springsteen's minor tunes "Light of Day."
Marshall Crenshaw- "All or Nothin' At All" Puts a little rockabilly swing to it and it works just fine.
Ben E. King- I never would have put this song with this singer. I'm glad they did.
Misfires-
While I wouldn't say I hated anything on this CD; there are a few errors in judgment. Syd Straw's vocals on "Meeting Across the River" just does not convince me. Did she listen to the lyrics? Martin Zellar shouldn't have aped Springsteen so much on "Darkness," and I'm not really sure what Mrs. Fun was shooting for on "Janey, Don't you lose Heart," but if it was "lounge singer" version they achieved it.
Two Steps Back:
The good ones-
Elliot Murphy- does a nice job on "Stolen Car," adding a wistful quality to the vocal that Springsteen doesn't quite achieve on the original.
Robbin Thompson- Throwing in a rocking Gospel sound and a decent instrumental break, Thompson just kicks it on "Guilty."
Southside Johnny- Just as good as the Boss himself, with those Miami Horns raising the heat even higher.
Richie Havens- "Streets of Philadelphia" is a perfect fit for his particular talents.
The rest is OK; ranging from the bizarre (Bowie on "Saint in The City") to the curious (Covers by France's Little Bob Story and Italy's Rocking Chairs) Even The Knack don't embarrass themselves. The only truly terrible song here is the "Disco Bruce" of Donna Summer. Man, this one's just painful.
It's a mixed bag like all compilations, but I'm glad I got it.

5 out of 5 stars It's A Springsteen Summer!.......2004-06-16

I LOVE Bruce! He is the best. No one has really mentioned this though: The most interesting cover on this collection is Protection by Donna Summer with Bruce on guitar and background vocals. There's supposed to be a duet of this with the two of them, which I think must have been killer. In any case, it makes you wonder what future collaborations between the two could bring about. WOW!

4 out of 5 stars Bruce Lite, which can be a good thing.......2003-12-14

Bruce is Bruce and obviously I love Bruce or I wouldn't have bought this thing. It's just very interesting to hear these versions of some of the smaller elephants in Bruce's zoo.
Almost every song here the vocals pull back from Springsteen's vocal approach, which is so often self-conscious and self-important.
It's a little breath of fresh air.
I can't believe nobody else mentioned Nils' version of "Wreck on the Highway". So far, it's the most arresting thing here.
On a side note: who are these people?
I don't know who "Aram" is but he does a superb version of "Something in the Night". Really turns the song inside out, but it's still completely the same song.
Anyway, there's a lot of good stuff here. All in all, it's more like a 3.5 than 4.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting revisitation.......2003-03-19

I looked over the reviews of this CD, and I am surprised that the version of Darkness is not mentioned. Nor is the Smithereens version of Downbound Train. These are my favorites. I don't know who that is singing Darkness, but it is a standout on this CD. Worth the price just on its own. And there is plenty of other music contained within this CD. I'm listening to it right now, and I can tell you that I listen to it over and over.
Springsteen fans and just good Rock and Roll fans get this one.
Springsteen is a great storyteller and this will allow you to listen to his stories from another perspective. Excellent.

3 out of 5 stars One or Two gems, but only Bruce can sing his music..........2000-07-07

Not a bad album, just for the majority of these songs Bruce does it so much better that there hard to listen to. Some good songs: Atlantic City by Kurt Neumann, Jackson Cage by John Wesley Harding (excellent, dare I say better than Bruce's version?), Janey Don't You Lose Heart by Tina & The B-Side Movement, 4th Of July, Asbury Park is different but good, Ben E. King had to really work to pull off that one. Stolen Car by Elliott Murphy is decent, Love's On The Line by Gary U.S. Bonds is really good, The Fever and Seaside Bar are not too bad. Interesting to hear If I Was The Priest, but to hear the best version of it listen to Before The Fame as the Boss can only sing it. The real gem of this album is Jackson Cage by JWH. Would love to hear him cover more Springsteen material if he can take an average song by Bruce's standards like Jackson Cage and make it sound like a classic. The album will really only appeal to Springsteen fans mostly, and even then it's hard to hear other people sing his songs.

4 out of 5 stars I like Todd.......2006-07-06

but I'm baffled by this CD. The first track listed is "Elmo and Henry", but track 1 is just some short, faint instrumental. The lyrics to "Elmo and Henry" are in the CD liner, but no such song on the CD. Also, the liner contains lyrics to two songs titled "Dance, Dance, Dance" and "Promises to Keep", but again, no such songs on the CD. What is on the CD are some pretty cool songs by a talented wordsmith and musician. I highly recommend it! Just can't make sense of what's in the liner and what is and isn't on the actual CD.

5 out of 5 stars Just Brilliant.......2006-02-06

Ever since I first saw Todd Snider at the Ranch Bowl in Omaha, NE back in 1999, I have been a huge fan. I was lucky enough to actually meet and hang out with Todd and all the Wrecks...what wonderful and talented guys. I love Todd's style of writing and the heartfelt lyrics are just brilliant. Everyone I turn on to Todd just raves. This CD happens to be my personal fave...along with Viva Satellite and Songs for the Daily Planet. At least one of his CDs is always in my CD player and always will be.

4 out of 5 stars Todd's second effort fell a little short..........2003-06-10

of his classic debut CD, "Songs From The Daily Planet." The outstanding numbers here are "Tension" and "Horseshoe Lake" and there are a few other pretty good ones, but his recent three releases on the "Oh Boy" label are more successful overall than "Step Right Up" was. If there are any Snider "completist" collectors out there, and I know there must be, I'd get this one just ahead of "Viva Satellite" which I rank as his least interesting CD, although some disagree about that. One thing in favor of "Step Right Up" is that it does feature The Nervous Wrecks, his original band, who got left out when Todd lost his MCA deal following "Viva Satellite."

3 out of 5 stars What could have been........2003-04-30

This CD is a very good example of just how good songs can be made mediocre by bad studio work. Having heard all of these songs in a live setting, I know just how good they can be. "Late Last Night" and "Side Show Blues" straight up rock. The simultaneously driving and haunting "Hey Hey" and "Moon Dawg's Tavern" are remarkable. And "Better Than Ever Blues Part 2" is the sort of song that you want to listen to during a good night of soul-searching while you are suffering through the rough times. So why three stars? I'm glad you asked.

Snider seems to be a pretty lazy musician in the studio. His arrangements are not that great and and his singing, to be quite frank, sounds like somebody who is just going through the motions. Most the songs on this album are decent, but they could have been fantastic. Instead, this album throws enticing shadows that flit away just when you think they are resolving into something you really want to see clearly. Overall, it is a good effort. But it should have been so much more.

5 out of 5 stars Opening act for John Prine.......2001-12-20

Heyla! I first heart Todd Snider as an opening act for a John Prine concert, and he was fantastic! No light show, just Todd and his instruments (he plays more than one, naturally) Later I found that John's encore song ("Double-wide Blues") was written by Todd Snyder, and already on, a Todd Snider CD. Todd Snider has an enormous following, although most people do not know it is his work behind the songs others sing. Much like John Prine himself, he is an unsung (no pun intended!) talent.
I recently over-heard my daughter singing a song of his ("B Double-r Double-E run, beerrun!") and was very amused when she was shocked to find that her cutting edge music was already known to her old Mum, her husband was just as surprised, as these songs are now circulating around world-wide military bases.
I can highly recommend all of his albums, as once you hear one a few times, they grow on you ... his insights, and often rather dark humor can be more deeply appreciated by anyone aged 25 - 55, although he has appeal to all ages, as his wit crosses generations.
I am honored to write this, this is amazing music! Songs that you find yourself humming hours later. Country/rock/pop crossover music, a little for everyone. basically, it's all good. Please see his other albums, give a listen, and don't judge a CD by it's cover; he is far better than his covers would lead you to believe.

This is a must have if you are a fan of zydeco or cajun music. THis is upbeat clean music that is fun to dance to. Even in your own home you will find your foot tapping and your body moving.

    5 out of 5 stars Everyone Dance.......2005-09-02

Step It Up! was the first album we purchased. We had gone to an out of the way club and C. J. Chenier and his group were performing. People came to seriously dance. We came to listen but soon found ourselves dancing. We didn't know the steps but it didn't seem to matter, we just moved. It is just happy, happy music.

Any fan of Cajun/Zydeco music cannot have a complete collection without having THIS cd. If you've never seen him live, this is the next best thing. CJ Chenier shows, once again, how he can 'Step It Up' and have anyone on the dance floor. If you are a fan, or a first time listener, grab this disc, and especially at these prices! Then retire whatever you've BEEN listening to, because I guaarannteee this will be in the player for a long time.
