4 out of 5 stars A fine album by the creators of polyethnic cajun slamgrass.......2001-06-06

This is vintage Leftover Salmon-- and it's a good thing it is back in print. If you don't know by now, LoS is a jam band that performs a unique blend of cajun, bluegrass, blues, rock, reggae, and several other styles that are so smoothly integrated that you might forget just how original their sound is. This album just makes you feel good. "Ask the Fish" and "The Nashville Sessions" are probably better albums which have a more improvisational feel to them, but this is a fine piece of work, and well worth owning. Further listening: the complete works of Jerry Douglas-- the bluegrass dobro master who knows no musical boundaries. Anders Osborne's "Which Way to Here"-- a brilliant blend of blues, rock, and New Orleans R&B. Like this album, it just makes you feel good. David Lindley's "Win This Record"-- rock, blues, reggae and some of the meanest slide guitar you've ever heard. Alvin Youngblood Hart's "Territory"-- a blues musician breaking down barriers. Listen with an open mind.

4 out of 5 stars Classic salmon cheese at its finest.......1999-08-29

Give me that cheese! I can undoubtedly state that the Salmon boys have GREATLY improved since the making of this album many years ago, but the album does have some great songs on it rarely performed live by the boys any longer. One should buy this album just to hear "Just before the Evening", a beautiful Drew ballad I've never heard live and probably never will. I highly recommend the album if you already love those Salmon boys, but would not recommend it as a first album. "Ask the Fish" is a better representation of the whole LOS experience.
