Product Description

After four brilliantly melodic full-length records, a handful of seven-inch releases, several tours crisscrossing them through the forty-eight mainland states, showcasing their talents on stages in and outside of Tokyo, receiving both written praise and a compilation appearance in CMJ, even having a record shop in Japan name itself after frontman, Eric Rottmayer’s solo project, Metronome, Tiara is proud to announce the upcoming November release of their latest recording, “Chained to the Crown”. “Chained To The Crown” is comprised of Tiara’s strongest work to date, with the maturation of Eric Rottmayer’s lyrics and composition and the addition of lap steel and keys to the band’s accompaniment. From the back porch feel of “In The Night Air” to the stomp and shake of “Holes In The Brain Of A Man”, “Chained To The Crown” is full of melodies that will stick with you. Recorded throughout the Winter and Spring of 2005 at Rottmayer’s Blue Green Studio and with Jon Chinn at the helm for continued sessions at Workbook Studio, the record combines the intimate setting and big studio sound. They have also found another member in Jess Faller to become the full-time keyboard Player for all their future shows and recordings.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great record from underrated band.......2006-07-22

A knack for melody, neo-psychedelic textures, soothing vocals - this record boasts all of the above. "The Next Face" is one of the standout tracks with its fuzzy bass hook and meandering ethereal guitar coda. Dreamy. The title track - another standout track - is a gorgeous piano-driven piece. I hear this band recently broke up. If that's true, this record is a nice swansong. By the way, check out their album, Titletron. 5 stars for that one!

    Album Description

Mortimur is a three-piece instrumental outfit hailing from Columbus, Ohio. The trio creates seductive soundscapes by intertwining patterns of rhythm and melody into a polyphonic storm. Recognizing each other through constant communication, three separate voices gathering in unison, parting to connect, form a picture or narrative without the constraints of a lyrical lean. This magnetic sound is characterized by its yearning melodies, ethereal swells, and lilting waves of drumming. The sound combination creates a counterpoint or axis for all instruments to exist both separate and together, spanning audible space with bold frequency and dynamic tonal and volume range. Hypnotic rumbles of trance like patterns, moody triplet based polyrhythms, and cacophonous dissension all signify Mortimur's bacchanal reverie. Notable influences consist of bands such as Don Cabellero, King Crimson, Slint, Laddio Boloko, Can, and Godspeed You Black Emperor. Each of these bands has created something uniquely their own, simultaneously defying musical categorization while defining modern sound. A testimony to new music; Mortimur is determined to discover and claim ownership on fertile ground.

Mortimur's lips are hermetically sealed. The trinity's first full-length self-titled audible requisition is impervious to external influence. As to say, the best thieves never get caught. The mystery is in their hands and the ears of there listeners. Musical deviants by nature and truth savors in the world of independent rock and roll, Mortimur illuminates the strength of innovation in a world of fraudulent popular radio play while still remaining assessable to true music lovers.

      Album Description

After three brilliantly melodic full-length records, a handful of seven-inch releases, and several tours crisscrossing them through the forty-eight mainland states, Tiara offers their latest album, The Summer of the Lion, the Summer of the Lamb. Their fourth full length balances the intimate feel of songs like "Something Good To Come" with the sonic charge of tracks like "Day By Day". Since 1995, Tiara has been crafting melancholic pop masterpieces and space rock epics from their Columbus, Ohio home. After stints opening for such national acts as Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, Grandaddy, and Death Cab For Cutie, Tiara teamed up with Silver Scooter for an extended U.S. tour and then went on to conquer Japan. In 2003, Erik Kang of the Emerald Down joined Tiara and the newly revitalized lineup is featured on the track "Drawings".

4 out of 5 stars Feel good party rock!.......1999-06-19

These guys rock! They sound like they were drunk when they recorded this record. They're even better live. Lots of mistakes and equipment problems. They usually yell at each other, too. Their crowd is rowdy and hurls insults at everyone in sight. Jonny Chan thinks he's the leader but the real secret weapon is their bass player Tommy Jade. I think Jonny is secretly jealous of him. If you like Foghat, you'll love the Dynasty.

        Album Description

Columbus Ohio's Denovo is a new effort featuring former members of local favorite Special Aviation Project. The group reformed in the fall of 2000 with front man Sean Gardner -also of Kopaz- and began working hard at finding a new sound. Denovo has the ability to turn 4/4 time signatures into seemingly complex math equations. Combined with a catchy, sometimes 80s-inspired, pop sensibility, the vocals are addictively melodic and dynamic, ranging from soft, smooth singing to the occasional emotional scream. Denovo has a string of influences -- from DC bands such as Jawbox, Shudder To Think, and Hoover to the late-90s Midwestern sounds of Lincoln and Indian Summer to some late 70s/early 80s groups like The Police. However, each member definitely brings his own personal influences to the table and these often convene to form something truly unique.

        5. Pathos
        6. Suspiria

        Album Description

In the year 2000 the all-female cast of Frostiva commenced the production of eerie, minimalist rock. Envision walking through the forest on a late summer night, being thrown into the tundra in Siberia, and then spun into a disco that's in for an unpleasant surprise. Although, as a collective, they musically expose and impose "the things they are afraid of", they are not afraid to be pretty, or to open the dance floor to people who move like machines and / or have had too much to drink.

Leslie and Trinae, the songwriters and vocalists in Frostiva, are influenced by one another and create a progression that is linear, circular and jagged, with raw changes that mix minors, majors, seventh chords, and various time signatures. As a group Frostiva are influenced by bands such as My Bloody Valentine, The Cure, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, Joy Division, New Order, The Talking Heads, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Broadcast, Lush, and horror film music.

The seven songs that make up "Ochnomos" were recorded at Relay Recording by Jon Fintel. One of those tracks, Paramount Imposter, can be found on the recently released We Want Action compilation which includes tracks from The Sun, 84 Nash, and Tiara. Frostiva's ep "Ochnomos" will be released by We Want Action in August, 2004.

        Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Post-punk meets Goth meets Dance Rock!.......2004-12-06

This is a very strong debut album. It's very dark and mostly has a Goth vibe to it, but manages to stay exciting with propulsive drums and guitar, and interesting keyboard effects. A couple of the songs are even bouncy enough for the dance floor, even though they don't lose their dark edge. This is quality music from a talented bunch who definitely have a promising future ahead of them. For fans of The Cure, Siouxsie Sioux, The Rapture and My Bloody Valentine.

              Album Description

84 Nash, from Columbus, Ohio. Kevin Elliott, Andy Hampel, and J.P. Herrmann have been together since high school in various small towns around Southwest Miami County. Unknowingly their homemade four-track cassettes developed a following in nearby Dayton, winning the ear of other Dayton bands, such as Swearing at Motorists, Brainiac, and Guided By Voices - whose leader, Robert Pollard, made 84 Nash's first proper LP; The Kings of Yeah (1998). It was the first non-GBV release on Rockathon Records. These static- rock soundings were a snapshot of things to come, full of agitated, youthful energy jumping head-first out of the gates. They were let loose upon the world of pop music.
