Miss These Guys.......2003-06-23
Steve Earle was on to something when he signed the V-Roys. Too bad they are no more, although one of their creative forces, Scott Miller, released an excellent solo album (Thus Always to Tyrants) and has another on the way, I understand. The V-Roys delivered consistent, intelligent, and listenable twang with 'tude. No complicated arrangements, no array of instrumentation; this was a guitars, bass, percussion, and vocals band, probably best heard in a smoke-filled bar. The CD is all about winning and losing, but never mutually satisfying, relationships. The best songs are No Regrets ("in the time it takes to crush this cigarette/I have no regrets about leaving you" -- not!), Pounding Heart (the dangerous temptation of commitment), What She's Found ("now I've got her so don't even bother to try and get back somehow"), and Lie I Believe (self-deception as art form). Cold Beer Hello is where you raucously wind up at the end of the affair and the CD, the beer more faithful than you or she have been. Only loser cut is Wind Down. Nothing timeless here, but worth having for its energy and witty writing.
The V-Roys kick ASS!!!!!!.......1999-08-13
The V-roys are soo awesome! I heard of them a couple years back from my sister, and i bought this first CD. I loved it and i always go to there little gigs when they come to my town. There from Knoxville, TN and they kick ass! I would definately recommend getting there other Cd as well. Me and my sister tried to think of a way to describe there music, but you cant. So we came up with a name for there kind of music, we call it ROCK-A-VILLY! well, because its gotta a little country twang and a lotta rock!........oh yeah Joey Todd if your reading this my sister said HI!
Nope. Didn't like it........1999-07-11
This band is as irritatingly loud as Nirvana, and has too much twang--they should try to be more like modern country acts. SAve yourself the time, energy, and bank, and go buy yourself 10 tins of Altoids instead.
This is easily the best cd of 1996.......1999-06-13
Do yourself or a loved one a favor and buy this album. In fact buy two, this album will surely become either worn out or stolen in no time. In our mad rush to label everything we have done ourselves a disservice and the v-roys are an example. Rock fans, these boys rock as loud as nirvana or the replacements. Country fans, these boys have got all the twang that the mainstream country acts lack. This album is tightly written from beginning to end. NO FILLER SONGS. I know we are all probably so jaded that we cannot concieve of such an album actually being written in an era in which an album is considered a solid buy if two or three songs therein are of quality. A full dozen songs and any one of which is vastly superior to the shoddy product which seems to flow like the Tennessee river out of Nashville.
What Hank Williams would sound like if he were 20 in 1997........1999-03-10
A relief for those of us who are getting tired of listening exclusively to pre-1972 rock and country music.

Just Add Ice=Instant Rock Classic.......2002-02-13
Possibly the greatest rock band of the late 90's. Each song is 3 minutes of perfect pure power pop, only to be topped by seeing them live...may they rest in peace.
Classic debut album from a criminally overooked band.......2001-11-10
In the tradition of "Alternative Country" pioneers Uncle Tupelo, Knoxville, Tennessee's V-Roys featured two first rate singer-songwriters whose inevitable split eventually did the band in. The V-Roys use country music as a reference point for a sound that actaully rocks pretty hard, especilly on tracks like "Wind Down." and "Sooner or Later." Other first rate cuts include "What's She Found," "Guess I Know I'm Right," and "Lie I Believe." Truth be told, there are no weak cuts on this consistantly excellent CD. It ends with the playful "Cold Beer Hello," which is good enough to make you thirsty.
Great even without Earle.......2000-07-10
Another on a long list of Steve Earle's discoveries. This is probably his most impressive, however. The V-Roys sound like a car crash between The Bottle Rockets and BR5-49's tour busses, combining the Rockets raucous bar-room sound with BR's tight harmonies and clean vocals.
You might have heard "Sooner or Later", and as you listen to this album you'll probably think that you've heard more than that. Don't expect ground-breaking originality here, but do expect to not be able to stop listening to this album. It's infectious.
As is so often the case, however, a brilliant debut album spells disaster, and the V-Roy's are no more. Don't let that deter you from buying this album, though.
If you are at all interested in the Alt-country-no-depression sound, pick this album up. It won't disappoint you.
