Customer Reviews:
Great Musicians For the Animals !.......2006-10-19
Many great songs and many animal loving musicians deliver the goods for the In Defense Of Animals organization. The best songs are by the most diehard vegetarians and animal advocates. The ORB(Dr.Alex Paterson), Moby, Meat Beat Manifesto(Jack Dangers) and the late River Phoenix's band make mesmerizing and stellar sounds and vocals. A fine CD for a humane and priceless cause.
Not only a great actor.......2004-08-24
I loved River Phoenix. He was a dedicated activist, friend, and a delightful spirit. This is a good recording, if you don't own it already I suggest checking it out. You can hear his voice better on the Tame Yourself album, but I like this one too. Happy Listening.
Buy Buy!.......1999-09-22
I felt the album was very positive, my main inspiration was easy, "YEAH!", to all artists that supported In Defense of Animals, my main reason for buying the CD, with my support to the organization and the album itself, it was worthwhile. Thanks for the compassion.

Customer Reviews:
Skinny Puppy at their best!.......2005-10-22
I have not had opportunity to listen to this CD in detail but I bought it only for the Skinny Puppy track because it is great. I felt obligated to counter the only existing review. The track, "Ode to Groovy" is slow but has all the emotion and impact of any Skinny Puppy I have heard.
I need a burger...with bacon........2005-04-06
Hot dog! Looks like I get to be the first to state the obvious:
Chances are, if you bought, or are thinking of buying this compilation, it's to get one of the *exclusive* tracks. Personally, I paid the few bucks for Skinny Puppy, and figured some primus, and meat beat manifesto (not mentioned in the song lineup) would be a nice bonus.
And if you pay more than a couple bucks for which ever song you might be collecting
...you have my sympathy.
I love Skinny Puppy to death, enough even to almost feel bad for being a materialist, omnivore, etcetera, but `ode to groovy' is pure castration, Industrial Gods with filed down teeth, watered down blood, and elevator speakers. I don't know if they made this to be more `cohesive' or had it lying about as a warning against whatever chemical incident caused such a tragedy. They can make a `soft song' any time they wish, and ohGr has done so, and well, but listening to...that...I've never wanted to hammer a calf skull and vote republican so much in my life.
I find reparation only in the anticipation of the horror, the HORROR I'll see in the faces of my fellow puppy people when I make them listen to it.
(The clip...yeah, the whole song's like that.)
In any case: Pearl Jam sounds like Pearl Jam, Stipe like Stipe, the hippies (rock or folk) like hippies, and the rappers, yes rappers, remind us that 9 times out of 10 you can't use something `cool' to sell something meaningful. There are a few dance-ish tracks that I didn't instantly skip over, but sure as heck didn't return to.
Chances are your spare change would be better spent as a donation to Green Peace.

Customer Reviews:
For animal lovers, but not in the perverted way........2005-09-28
Hey, everything else under the sun has had a benefit collection at this point, why not animals? Like most of these things, the chances of picking this up are probably based on which bands you like, and how well you like them. I knew about half, and they're mostly great tracks. Pearl Jam gives us "Porch", "Too Many Puppies" is classic Primus, Concrete Blonde does a great cover, I love the Lush song "For Love", and also two good live tracks from Sarah Mclachlan and Helmet. The rest is decent, and the whole collection is really diverse. Overall something good to snatch out of the used section at your local store.
