Album Description

The first in a terrific new Eric oldies series which will focus on the years 1957 to 1964. This volume has a real teen POP flavor with 13 Top Twenty tracks drawn mostly from the Roulette/Colpix/Warner Bros. vaults. And for collectors there are FIVE songs appearing on CD for the first time anywhere! As always, all recordings have been digitally mastered in ultra-high quality and are in true stereo wherever possible. Includes an 8-page booklet with detailed liner notes on each song.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Only label that can match ACE reissues.......2005-01-15

I am a enthousiastic collector, and have almost all the Time Life rock n roll stuff, as well as ACE cds of this era.
I could comment like this like I have on ACE editions, or the Eric Records HArd to Find 45s series. Excellent, and must have!
A few points why:
20 tracks per cd (Time life is also excellent, but you get 15 per cd!)
excellent booklets with background info
not the same old songs over again, but many rare and still excellent tracks!
last but not least amazing sound quality.
So although you might have some songs there on other collections like ACE, it is for above mentioned points alone worth it to always have an Eric copy as well.

5 out of 5 stars Super fun collection.......2004-07-11

Once again Eric brings us a jam packed disc of cool oldies, put it on your player and go cruisin'!

5 out of 5 stars If only every CD were done this well.......2004-04-23

Most of the conglomerate music companies have pretty much thrown in the towel when it comes to mining the vaults of rock and roll's early golden era. Thankfully, Eric Records, the small but potent label has graced the market with their outstanding single-artist and compilation CD's often offering the music of artists not found elsewhere. Anyone can throw together CD's of the top-10 songs over and over again but Eric has chosen to rescue many of the forgotten and overlooked tunes that many listeners still remember and want to hear again. Their "Hard To Find" series of CD's has been a collector's paradise. Now, in a new series, Eric continues to offer more rarely, if ever, found golden-era teenager tunes wrapped around a number of the more popular songs of the day. And in keeping with their high standards, these CD's offer the best in sound quality and are accompanied by insightful liner notes. This first volume, "Love Me Forever", in their new "Teen Time" series, offers eight top-10 songs, five top-20 charters and a sprinkling of chart-challanged sides. Though leaning toward the casual listener's musical memory, this piece does offer a few first-time-to-CD tunes represented by the Four Esquires' "Love Me Forever" and Cathy Carr's "First Anniversary" making it equally intriguing to the completist collector. While the appeal of the included tracks is an individual consideration, no domestic label puts together better compilation CD's than Eric and this new entry is another outstanding example of how it should be done.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding In Every Way!.......2004-04-19

There's no other way to put it than to say that this CD is flawless! How do they do it? Even the tracks that you might already have on other collections pale in comparison to the sound reproduced here. Some of the highlights here are the stereo single version of Fortuneteller by Bobby Curtola (debut), the stereo single version of First Anniversary by Cathy Carr (another CD debut), as well as CD debuts by Valerie Carr, Ed Townsend, and Cathy Carroll, and all the other tracks that will make your previous CD's obsolete. This is a must-have, for all serious collectors of the music of the first golden era of pop/rock. Bravo!

I was very pleased with this product, my sister recently got married and I was responsible for the music.... I am happy that I made this selection, everyone was happy with the music chosen for the ceremony, I would recommend it to any one looking for wedding music

5 out of 5 stars A wedding minister's review.......2000-01-16

I just love this album. I am a wedding minister and many couples ask me about music for their ceremony. I am happy to recommend they buy this album for a wonderful selection of wedding music both traditional and contemporary performed by orchestras, keyboardists, harpists and others including a lovely soprano. One disc is traditional wedding selections and the other is contemporary. The selections are arranged in the order of a ceremony with choices for each part of the ceremony. The CD would be appropriate to use in a wedding if live music is not planned. I plan to add a link to this site from my website just so couples can check this album out for themselves.

5 out of 5 stars god loves iggy...............not the curmudgeon...............2006-03-26

have been listening to music all my life, and ever since there has been a connection between drugs and r'n'r. get over your stupid problem with this fact. think back thru the great catalogue of r'n'r music, and what do you see, drugs and r'n'r'. damn you fool.

5 out of 5 stars What ever happened to sex, drugs and rock and roll?.......2005-10-23

Besides all that, if you don't like the Libertines or Babyshambles music and think his drug addiction has had the same effect on kids as Clay Aiken has on soccer moms or whoever the hell listens to him, maybe you've just got some personal issues. Besides, who created the whole evil, selfish dope fiend. I've read plenty of interviews and listened to alot of his songs and haven't detected any self pity or inflated ego. Alot of sensitive people get very hurt by the world while being in love with it and few of them can put it into song, Pete being one of the best of them ever. He and his music are worthless cause he does drugs, if that were true my record collection of bands going back to Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Robert Johnson etc would be pretty thin, (never mind the Stooges, Beatles, Stones, Dylan & Hendrix) Sorry for the tirade, but curmudgeon's review was just a bash (with hints of jealousy and a cassandra complex). I'd rather be a junkie capable of writing some of the songs that young Mr Doherty has than being a mean spirited cynic.
By the way, buy anything you can buy Babyshambles, Pete Doherty and the Libertines, I have I'm the better for it.

5 out of 5 stars Pete Doherty Can Not Even Take Heroin.......2005-10-18

I Think you will find anyone that listens to pete's music, is'nt at all interested in what drugs he does, or doesn't. But No he does not do heroin, he has an implant to stop the effects of opiates on the brain, But the fact is, he is one of the only real musicians out there, i know americans prefer to listen to the latest O.C soundtrack on repeat, maybe this is just a british thing, but its amazing, catchy, and original. Or Try listening to his acoustic sessions you can download (...) shows he is all about the music.

    4 out of 5 stars in reply.......2005-10-17

In reply to the other review...
Other members of the band - Drew, Patrick + Adam
other songs - east of eden, the man who came to stay, killamangiro, babyshambles...
Not saying this is their best song and the Libertines were way better but I've seen them live and they were brilliant. It's a shame that his drug problem & Kate Moss dominates the press because the music is great. And I am not a sheep. This song is damn catchy but killamangiro is better.

1 out of 5 stars Over-rated junkie adored by morons........2005-09-26

Pete Doherty. His pasty, pudgy face is never out of the British tabloids these days, but has there ever been a musician LESS famous for their music? And let's face it, it's not just the tabloids that don't care about the actual musical output of Doherty et al - all ANYONE talks about is one thing - Pete Doherty is addicted to heroin.

Does anyone know any of the other members of Babyshambles? Of course they don't. Could half of the people reading this review name me 2 Babyshambles songs? Of course they couldn't - because their weak, patchy material can't compete with the juggernaut of exposure Doherty gets, and his massive, swollen ego and pathetic sense of self-worth and self-pity wouldn't have it any other way.

So, Pete's a junkie then. It's what MADE the band he was in earlier (The Libertines) famous (again, not the music, that was just as bad as Babyshambles.. well, maybe a little better), as a million fools took Pete to their hearts, calling him "troubled" and "in need of counciling".

LISTEN, idiots - he's a feeble minded, worthless JUNKIE. Don't you think he knew what heroin was when he took it? Of course he did. No-one put a gun to his head, he knew the risks, he knew what he was doing - and now he just can't hack it. Simple as that. And we're supposed to feel sorry for him? We're supposed to support him? I don't think so. If Pete Doherty wasn't famous, you would cross the street to avoid him, you would look at him, wasted, and tut, thinking "scum". But no, because he's got some money, because he's in the NME every week - he's a genius, a poet, the saviour of British music. What utter rubbish.

I really, really hope Pete Doherty doesn't overdose. Not that the world would lose anyone of any worth or merit, but because he would instantly become a new hero, an untouchable icon of a generation etc etc etc. Same with Tupac, same with Kurt Cobain (who WAS talented, don't get me wrong on that one) - and Pete Doherty is quite simply not worthy of any praise at all.

"F**k Forever?" No, F**k YOU, Pete. And all your simple-minded herd of sheep fans. Forever.

5 out of 5 stars Fighting Gravity (Fighting to Break-Through.......2003-02-18

I've been listening to this band since I was 12 years old and I gotta tell ya they get better every time I listen to 'em. The blend of ska roots and a softer form of acoustice rock is simply sublime. I've seen them several times and recommend their concerts just as highly as I do their CD.

5 out of 5 stars Fighting Gravity's evolution into new territory a success.......1999-07-07

If your musical taste includes Dave Matthews, this band is for you. Although they've played together, Fighting Gravity's ska-based tunes, laced with amazing horns, are quite different than Dave's - though equally as good. Fighting Gravity's longevity has translated into musical maturity: Dave P.'s bass is excellent, and Mike's percussion is superb. Lead singer Schiovannie is a blast to watch on stage, and just as wonderful to listen to on the CDs. If you're a first time buyer, Forever-1 Day (epecially songs #2 and #4) is a great starting point, and try to catch them as they tour up and down the eastern seaboard from VT, to MA, NY, and of course their home state of VA. You'll have a great time.

3 out of 5 stars Good but definitely not their best.......1999-03-04

I've been a Fighting Gravity/Boy O Boy fan since I first saw them open for the Kinks at the boathouse in Norfolk, VA. Forever=1 Day is a good solid CD but it lacks the energy and sheer fun of some of their earlier releases such as Shiskabob and No Stopping No Standing. I especially wish the horns were more prominent on this album. This is a good CD but it's definitely not their best work

4 out of 5 stars A must have for any music lover!.......1998-09-01

5 out of 5 stars Fighting Gravity is destined for greatness!.......1998-07-19

Fighting Gravity began as a local band at Virginia Tech, gained favorite-group status at many state venues, and has now become a national success!

New Mercury Recording artists Fighting Gravity, a formerly mostly ska group, maintains a unique pop style that fans here in Blacksburg can't get enough of.

I own every Fighting Gravity album, and I love the way their musical style has evolved. "Forever=1 Day" represented perhaps their most dramatic change from previous albums, and it really reflects a universal appeal with songs like "One Day" and "Mission Bells."

"Forever=1 day" is just a taste of great things to come.

        Album Details

Herr Roth Says: "For Many Years it Had Been a Dream of Mine to One Day Record the Whole of Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons on the Guitar. One Part of Me Wanted to Do this Simply Because it was Uncharted Territory in Terms of Guitar Playing And, for Good Reason, Had Never Been Attempted Before, but Most Importantly, Because of the the Very Special Fascination this Music Held for Me from the First Moment I Ever Heard It. There Are Plenty of Good Reasons Why it is Probably the Most Performed Musical Piece of all Time; After All, this is Not Just `any' Piece of Classical Music, but One of the Great Masterpieces of Western Civilization and an All-time Favourite of Music Lovers all Over the World Ever Since the Day it was First Heard. Vivaldi is Just as Fresh and Exciting in 2003 as it was Nearly 300 Years Ago When it was Written by the Man Himself in Italy."

        Customer Reviews:

        5 out of 5 stars Flat-out Revolutionary - Adequate superlatives don't exist........2004-09-12

For decades guitar fanatics have recognized Uli (Ulrich) Roth as one of the most phenomenal electric guitarists ever to walk the Earth. If one considers Michael Schenker to be a pioneer in melodic rock guitar, Roth could be said to be Schenker on steroids. Roth's melodic flights are nothing short of mind-blowing, dazzling, frequently unbelievable. Unfortunately, his brilliant stint with the Scorpions ended prior to that band's break into the international big time, and his post-Scorps releases with his band Electric Sun suffered from spotty production, lack of a good vocalist, and a conscious choice to place artistic/conceptual experimentation above accessibility. Consequently, his talent has heretofore remained virtually unknown in North America.

"Metamorphosis" is the latest milestone on Roth's quest to elevate the electric guitar to the level of classical violin, an incredibly ambitious vision he outlines in detail at the UliJonRoth website.

Roth has already composed six of what he calls "The Symphonic Legends" (similar in approach to Liszt's Symphonic Poems,) of which only "Prologue" has been recorded and released; "Transcendental Sky Piano - Aquila Suite," to date only available in samples; and "Transcendental Sky Guitar," of which "Metamorphosis" constitutes Volume III - the previous two, "The Dragon" and "The Phoenix," having been released as the two-disc "Transcendental Sky Guitar" set.

"Metamorphosis" is perhaps the first time that Roth achieves production values that do justice to his incredible ability, and the result is spellbinding, particularly if you've ever picked up a guitar. This is not another tired example of a heavy metal guitarist soullessly peeling off a classical piece as an adolescent display of technical prowess, making a mockery of the original piece in the process. What shines through even the most dazzling virtuosity on this work is Roth's palpable character as an artist - a man who is not only capable of amazing musicianship but also of profound respect for the work he's reproducing and for its composer. Beyond that, one gets the tangible impression that Roth understands, perhaps lives, Vivaldi's vision and spirit, and expands on it brilliantly with his original Metamorphosis suite.

The audio samples furnished for the non-import version of this release are (currently) snipped from mid-track which is a shame. Roth's magnificent descending bend at the beginning of "Springtime Euphoria," into a spectacular repeating riff which ascends over the Four Seasons' main theme, is a stratospheric burst of melody of a quality that cannot be conveyed with words - an 'instant gooseflesh' experience to put it mildly.

Seeing Roth perform Metamorphosis live, not only with the same virtuosity found on the recording but with an artistry, precision and effortlessness one usually finds only in classical violinists, leads to the inescapable conclusion that this is a true master at work - a composer and instrumentalist on a par with the great composers whose work he emulates. Speaking as a guitarist, Roth's "Sky Guitar" series and planned symphonic works are potentially the most revolutionary - evolutionary - things to happen to the electric guitar since the invention of the transducer.

I suspect that classical purists will turn up their noses at the very notion of electric guitar taking the place of the violin, perhaps not. Should such be the case I would view it as an example of the hostility unleashed on every brilliant innovator - something which is always more revelatory of the critic than the subject.

If music awards such as the Grammys retained any connection with musical talent one would expect Roth's "Metamorphosis" to be a shoo-in for the Best Instrumental category, but I'm not certain if anyone in the pool of judges for that organization understands any release not having catchy lyrics and a spot on American Top 40. If ever there were an artist deserving of high acclaim for outstanding achievement, it's this one.

No matter - Uli Roth has created a timeless masterpiece, a giant step in his single-handed effort to advance the evolution of the electric guitar into a higher form. To speculate as to what he'll do next is mind-boggling. I cannot recommend this disc highly enough.

5 out of 5 stars GREATEST GUITAR ALBUM IN 20 YEARS!!!!.......2004-01-15

Roth continues to push the boundaries of electric guitar. In this release he passes his pupils (Malmsteen, Vai, Van Halen, etc.) and raises the bar in a way no guitarist has since the early eighties. An absolute masterpiece by an absolute master.

5 out of 5 stars Another Gem from the Master.......2003-11-17

This latest release from the master of the sky guitar is truly stunning. It should appeal to the entire spectrum from modern guitar aficionados through adventuresome classical music listeners. Uli's interpretations of this renowned piece of music is clearly reverent, while at the same time bringing both a fresh perspective and a unique instrumental voice to the timeless melodies and arrangements. The guitar work is no less than breathtaking. His technical virtuosity is, as always, the leading edge of the instrument. But rather than simply blazing through the composition, Uli performs each piece with the nuance and grace that Vivaldi must have had in mind during the composition, while at times showing the fiery intensity of a Jascha Heifetz. The fusion of electric guitar and traditional orchestral instruments is seamless--at no point does it sound unnatural or forced. As an encore, there is a "fifth season" that contains melodies and arrangements reminiscent of the Prologue album, while periodically recapitulating and extrapolating some themes from the main body of the work--this time in a more daring and exuberant way. And finally, the packaging is clearly Uli's crowing achievement in this category. There is a blend of historic art, original pieces and thoughtful poetry to accompany and elaborate on each season. The seasons themselves become a metaphor for creation and the cycle of life, inevitable death, and glorious rebirth. The artwork almost makes one long for the days of LPs, where it would have been just that much more grand. This record will be welcomed by current Roth fans and is sure to delight the ear of any music lover willing to give it a listen.

3 out of 5 stars I've heard better from Uli.............2003-10-24

Not good, not bad. Uli tries his hand at the most recorded, most played and most performed piece of music in the history of the world; Vivaldi's "Four Seasons". It's kinda' unique in the sense that Uli is playing this composition on his Sky Guitar, but for me it becomes rather boring after a while. If you want to hear the best version of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" check out Carmignola playing it on violin (I think it was a Sony release around 2000) If you want to check out some of Uli's better work I would suggest "Prologue to the Great Symphonic Legends", "Earthquake", or any of his earlier works with the Scorpions especially "Virgin Killer". This CD really deserves about a two-and-a-half star rating, but because we're talking about Uli Jon Roth, I'll bump him up two three stars.
