When the Beatles catalog was first issued on CD in the '80s, an attempt was made to standardize the releases (which often varied wildly in content internationally) by using their original British format. But this confounded many Fabs fans in the U.S. who now found CDs with track listings that often differed dramatically from their original American LPs. More maddening, the initial four releases were only available in not-so-glorious mono mixes. This four-CD collection of the band's 1964 American album releases finally addresses those concerns, and then some. Meet the Beatles, The Beatles Second Album, Something New, and Beatles '65 have been digitally prepared from Capitol's vintage album masters and presented in both the original stereo and mono mixes released back in '64. This set gives younger fans a chance to finally hear the band's epochal early music in stereo--and should please an older generation by returning massive hit singles like "I Want to Hold Your Hand," "She Loves You," "She's a Woman," and "I Feel Fine" to their original American album contexts. The booklet contains a wealth of rare photos and concise notes by noted Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn. --Jerry McCulley

Beatles - Capital Years Vol 1-.......2007-05-31
I bought Vol 1 and 2 to replace my record collection. I was not disappointed. The sound quality is great and the mini albums are exact replicas of the originals.
About damn time!.......2007-03-14
Even though I have all the 1987 CD's,I still bought this set. And I couldn't be happier! The set sounds great,Duophonic,Real Stereo or Mono. The packaging is stellar, each CD in the set in a reproduction of the original US album sleeve, with the CD label reproduction of the vinyl label (for the most part-the Capitol logo should've been at the top of the label...but so what). The booklet, however, could've been longer...but that's my opinon. Buy this set,as well as Volume 2. You will not be disappointed! (Here's hoping Capitol does a Volume 3!)
America! Bring on the reverb!.......2007-03-04
Debate all you want the merits of the British versions versus the American versions, but the first time I heard "I Feel Fine" (on my big sister's original Capitol 45) it was bathed in echo and reverb. So was the flip "I Feel Fine." And didn't these versions sound great coming over the tinny transistor radio? You bet your Beatle Boots they did!
Years later when the CDs came out we were "treated" to the British versions (as the Beatles intended), we got to hear those two songs (on Past Masters Vol. 1) dry and stripped of the echo and reverb. I was stunned. So that's how they were supposed to sound, eh? I felt betrayed by the evil Capitol engineers.
Now it's a million years later and Capitol has the AUDACITY to release their original mixes. And you know what? Lay that reverb on me, baby. Douse me in echo! I'm a freakin' stupid clueless eight year old again!
What I didn't know didn't hurt me!
America: The land of milk and honey and REVERB!
My childhood is back!.......2007-02-17
I had gotten so used to the CD versions of these Beatles oldies that I had forgotten how full the songs sounded in glorious stereo on my original LPs. The American mix is much more fun to listen to! Listening to these songs in the mono version is like listening to a Beethoven piano concerto on an "original" instrument, after you've already heard it on a concert Steinway. One gets the impression that Beethoven would have preferred the booming Steinway, and that the fab four would have preferred the Capitol mix. Drawback: way too expensive! Including the mono mixes doesn't really add anything, so basically you're paying about $48 for about 100-110 minutes of music. A ripoff, but I'm enjoying it anyway.
GREAT MUSIC.......2007-01-15
Bought this for my 14 year old nephew...a beatles fan...the whole family enjoyed listening to the music...and he felt very important for having such a nice collectors item.

Unless your name is Ryan Adams, you're probably not in the habit of releasing four albums in four years, let alone the same number in one. But that's exactly what the Beatles did in 1965, thanks to Capitol Records' practice of mixing and matching tracks from their U.K. releases to create new, shorter records for the American market. Because standard-issue Beatles discs follow the British discography, The Capitol Albums, Vol. 2 marks the first CD appearance of The Early Beatles (March), Beatles VI (June), the Help! soundtrack (August), and the U.S. version of Rubber Soul (December), which are presented in both mono and stereo. And since the Brits' Please Please Me and Beatles for Sale are available only in mono, that means a lot of tracks are making their stereo CD debut here, including "Please Please Me," "Twist and Shout," "Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey Hey," "What You're Doing," and "Every Little Thing." This is also the first CD appearance of Ken Thorne's incidental music from Help! (James Bond intro, anyone?), as well as of the original wide-separation stereo mixes of Help! and Rubber Soul (not the 1987 George Martin digital remixes that appear on the British discs). All told, a full 82 of this set's 92 tracks have never before been available on CD. It's not quite the sonic revelation that was Vol. 1 (that box contained 32 stereo CD debuts, this one only 14), but it's a great listen nevertheless. Also included is a colorful, 60-page booklet featuring rare photos and liner notes by Beatles historian Bruce Spizer. --Benjamin Lukoff

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic Sound.......2007-07-09
I am an American Beatles fan who grew up in the 60's and 70's, so I am of course more than familiar with the Capitol albums. In those days that's what you got right? I had never heard of 'With the Beatles' or 'Beatles for Sale'. For me it was 'Meet the Beatles' and 'Beatles 65' and 'Beatles VI'etc. It was the black rainbow label and later that ugly lime green label. I spent my childhood and teen years discovering this great music. It wasn't until later that I realised that these weren't the real albums. When I found out that Rubber Soul begins with 'Drive my Car' and not 'I've Just Seen a Face', and the Help album doesn't really have Beatle songs played by Indian session musicians, but real songs.. and 14 of them, I felt ripped off. I was thrilled when the real Parlaphone issues came out on CD, and I retired my vinyl Capitol albums and bought the entire Parlaphone catologue on CD. But surprisingly these new CDs didn't sound the same as the Capitol albums. The songs were in the right order but they were in mono, and I was used to my stereo albums. (We always had a stereo, as early as 1964). I did get used to the different sound of the CDs, and grew to love them. However now the Capitol Albums are back, fully remastered and in both stereo and mono! There are about 32 tracks on each CD in this box, so the first half is in stereo and the second half is in mono. You get the American Capitol versions of Beatles VI,(always a favorite of mine) Help, The Early Beatles (remember that one?) and Rubber Soul. Because they were remastered, both the stereo and mono tracks sound incredible, and very different from each other, so you are getting a lot for your money. They also sound different from the Parlaphone CDs. Each Cd comes in the original sleeve with the original artwork, and it comes with a little booklet which gives some interesting info. I still love my British Parlaphone CDs, but it's nice to have this boxed set (and Volume 1 also) just for the quality of the sound. It's also nice to have for nostalgic reasons also. A lot of fans have argued for the stereo versions, and were angry when EMI chose to issue the mono only Cds, and on the other hand, a lot of purists ( the Beatles included) have argued that the mono versions are the REAL versions, and therefore the only ones that matter. I personally love both. I think some songs sound better in stereo, and in some, ( 'I Feel Fine' and "She's A Woman' especially) the mono versions are better. But with both mono and stereo, you are getting different mixes of each song, and for most of the songs, both versions are wonderful. You can hear certain instruments or vocals better on various versions, for instance on 'You Like Me Too Much',John's electric pianet really stands out in one of the versions (can't remember if it's the stereo or mono). The vocals on the stereo version of 'Baby's in Black'(on volume 1) are high in the mix, while the vocals on the mono version sound different. The Help and Rubber Soul cds in this set sound incredible, and yes on Help you still have to lift up the needle, oops, I mean skip the tracks that feature those film soundtrack versions of Beatle songs. Whether you are hearing stereo or mono, every note can be heard. Everything is clear, and these cds are louder so you don't have to turn up the volume, like I've found I needed to do on the Parlaphone cds. If you are into remastered sound, you will love this boxed set and don't forget to buy Volume 1 also, because that's fantastic too. Actually some of this review talks about Volume 1, so it's worth it to have both. My only question is, where is the 'Beatles Yesterday and Today?' That album is conspicuously absent from this set. This is disappointing. I hope this means there will be a Volume 3 somewhere down the road.
Poor sound effect on this Capital Vol.2!!.......2007-06-03
I got this CD set from Hong Kong HMV and these are the EU version. They has the problem -"the fake sound effect on Rubber soul(I'm Looking Through you-Stero version)". That made me upset! Are they kiding and cheating all our Beatles Fan??!
Capital Vo1. 1 is better than Vol.2 a lot! Especially the sound effect. Do not waste your money to buy this CD set !
I hope EMI will issue a CD version of "Rock and Roll Music" & "Love Songs" from the LP Version!
Actually, the British version of all the Beatles LP and CD are the best!
4 months to get replacement .......2007-05-11
Hey be careful buying this,,Took me only 4 months to get correct Rubber soul, and Beatle vI replacement discs..and last I checked in May 2007 Emi 1-800 phone number for replacement discs has been disconnected..read early reviews of this title to understand that you are looking for sk1 on yellow sticker ..3 stars for slow EMI handling of this
Beatles are the Best........2007-02-22
This is everything that it is advertised to be. The updated, scratch-free productions are superb. Some listeners will be annoyed at the stereophonic mixing of voice and instruments. But you have to remember to enjoy the hundreds of great tunes the Beatles created in their careers. The songs are what you will remember. I never heard the entire sound track to Help before, and it is very interesting and creative. It shows George Martin at his best.
Great stuff!! Amazing Sound! Stop all the Griping!!!.......2007-02-19
I held off buying this fantastic set after reading tons of reviews on here The reviews seemed to either be 5 stars or 1 star, with little in-between. After receiving the set and giving it a good listen, I feel it is every bit as good as Vol 1.
Yes, it's not perfect. Capitol virtually made their "own" "Rubber Soul", by choosing their own songs and giving the finger to George Martin's original British release. And yes, there is that infamous "false start" on the stereo version of "I'm Looking Through You." Which leaves a lot of people screaming for their money back. (Personally i thought the false start was actually a "great start" guess it depends on who's listening.)
BUT, for all you people on here that have picked this set apart piece by piece, why can't you just "chill out" and enjoy what is great about the set, that being the amazing stereo sound. (I could care less about the mono's. It's kinda like someone handing you the keys to a Lexus or to a Huandyi Accent, and telling you to take your pick. (i.e. mono vs stereo)
I grew up listening to stereo, frankly, I always thought a lot of the Beatle mono's were kinda "muffled" for a long time. (Stuff like No Reply, for instance. Now we can really hear them, the songs just "jump out and grab you". Also, what if you had to listen to all the great songs like Come Together, Let It Be, and Revolution (all the post Revolver stuff, beginning with "Pepper"), in plain mono, I don't think it would be the same do you? Rest my case.
If you don't believe it, line your songs up on your I-pod to play one mono song, then next play the same song in stereo, (you won't be able to listen to over 30 seconds of the mono songs until you just have to hit the "next" button on your i-pod/MP-3.) The amazing stereo will make you say, WOW!, what have i been missing!
Yeah, maybe some of this stereo stuff is manufactured. I don't know, I don't know if anyone can prove it, I really don't care, I like what I hear!!!
I don't really care for all the extra fillers on HELP, with the extra instrumental tracks, but they are interesting. I just erased them when going to my MP-3.
Bottomline, If you don't like the box, sell it to someone does, and quit your "bitching", hell they put both versions on here to try to please everybody. Yeah, Capitol is like every other record company, the al-mighty dollar rules over anything that makes sense, but damn I don't think the set warrants all the incredible negativity it is getting on here.
I just hope we see Vol 3, if Capitol and Apple don't slit each other's throat over the confusion/disagreements over this Vol 2.
I say BUY THE SET!!! Any fan, whether casual or hard-core should enjoy most every part of this set!
By the way, if you're wondering which songs are STILL NOT released in stereo, (and hopefully will be the VOL 3, I will list them for you below:
The only two remaning Capitol LP's/Cd's are Yesterday and Today and Revolver. (plus the hits masters 1 and 2) (of which most of the songs are already in stereo.), except for I'm Down and From Me To You.
The entire Revolver LP/CD, including, in alphabetical order, And Your Bird Can Sing, Dr. Robert, Eleanor Rigby, For No One, Good Day Sunshine,Got To Get You Into My Life, Here,There,And Everywhere, I Want To Tell You,I'm Only Sleeping, Love You Too, She Said,She Said, Taxman,Tommorrow Never Knows, and Yellow Sub.
Also, the "Yesterday and Today" LP, also the infamous "butcher cover", with the songs not already on Revolver: If I Needed Someone,Yesterday, We Can Work It Out, What Goes On, Act Naturally, Nowhere Man, Drive My car, and Day Tripper.
Finally, the rest: I Should Have Known Better, Can't Buy me Love,(which were on the "Hey Jude LP"), and A Hard Day's Night, From Me To You, I'm Down, Misery, and There's A Place.
If I omitted any songs let me know!
Can't Wait For Vol 3!!!!
Enjoy your box set!!! And LONG LIVE THE BEATLES!!! The greatest rock and roll band that ever lived and ever will live!!! Let's All keep the Music Alive!!! (Besides Yoko, Capitol, and Michael Jackson, all need the money).
Keep Rockn! rocknronnie

Just possibly the luckiest pop musician in history (replacing hapless Pete Best in the Beatles on the eve of their EMI signing and the unprecedented fame that followed), Ringo Starr wasted no time carving out his own comfortable--and surprisingly successful--post-Fabs career in the early 1970s. This concise greatest-hits package (ostensibly a contractual-filling farewell to his longtime label) compiles all of the drummer's top 10 hits, including the evergreen smashes "Photograph" and "You're Sixteen," as well as the hit singles "It Don't Come Easy" and "Back Off Boogaloo." The charming B-side "Early 1970" (chronicling the contemporary lives of three of Starr's suspiciously familiar musician friends) is also included. It may shortchange Ringo's lovingly quirky early country & western and Tin Pan Alley collections (Beaucoups of Blues and Sentimental Journey, respectively), but it's still a great choice for hit-hungry fans. --Jerry McCulley

Ringo.......2007-05-12
If you like Ringo this is the only CD you will need to buy. It has all of his best songs (and there are quite a few) and they are the studio recordings-not the lame live recordings of his music. Don't get me wrong-I love Ringo live but he should have the monkeys who record his live shows flogged!! Actually I should not have said monkeys-it is an insult to them as they would have done a far better job recording Ringo's concerts that the inept humans who were hired to do this job. Enough of my ranting though-if you like Ringo buy this CD it is the only one you will need for your Ringo collection!!! It is awesome!!
ITS BLAST FROM YOUR PAST WITH RINGO AND HIS FAMOUS NO NO SONG........2007-02-04
Readers and reviewers, I will be writing a review on the legendary compilation album entitled "BLAST FROM YOUR PAST" by one of Rock's greatest personalities who just so happens to be an Ex-Beatle. I give you one of England's favorite sons and pride and joy's, Mr. Richard Starkey or should I say, MR. RINGO STARR. "BLAST FROM YOUR PAST" was originally released in 1976 on vinyl/LP and cassette on the infamous Capitol Records in association with EMI Records and Parlophone Records. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary compilation album or its legendary artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.
What can I say about the legendary RINGO STARR that hasn't already been said? RINGO STARR has graced us with his many talents and his most recent tours to this very day. RINGO STARR would begin his early career as a drummer from Liverpool, England as part of THE FAB FOUR or should I say THE BEATLES. When THE BEATLES broke up in 1970, RINGO would try his hand at not only a solo career, but as an actor. In the early 70's, RINGO was extremely successful at both but would slowly fade away until the movie CAVEMAN was made and released in 1981. CAVEMAN would also star Dennis Quaid, Shelley Long, John Matuszak and RINGO'S wife Barbara Bach. However, RINGO'S solo music career did have some fine moments. "BLAST FROM YOUR PAST" are the results of those moments. In my opinion, "BLAST FROM YOUR PAST" is a very up lifting and positive album which contains some very funny songs.
I will list and review certain song tracks contained in this compilation album. It is extremely hard for me to choose any one song track over the other. However, due to trying to shorten this review as much as posible, I will only list certain song tracks in their original exact running order as follows: (1.) "You're Sixteen (You're Beautiful And You're Mine)," (This is a wonderful Ringo Starr song that brings back the spirit of the 50's music. Ringo sings this song perfectly to the bone.) (2.) "No No Song/Skokiaan," (I love this song. This is my most favorite RINGO STARR song. I love the lyrics to this song. The lyrics are so funny, we can all pretty much relate to it, at least I can. RINGO sings this song with such emotion like he truly means it. I love it when RINGO sings the chorus "AND I SAID NO NO NO NO I DON'T (Sniff) NO MORE, I'M TIRED OF WAKING UP ON THE FLOOR, NO THANK YOU PLEASE IT ONLY MAKES ME SNEEZE, AND THEN IT MAKES IT HARD TO FIND THE DOOR. Enough said.) (3.) "It Don't Come Easy," (I love this up beat song. This song is produced by George Harrison. RINGO sings this song with such power that you can almost feel the rough times in his voice what it was like being an BEATLE in the early days.) (4.) "Photograph," (This is another up beat song that RINGO delivers a fine lead vocal performance. This song is co-written with George Harrison.) (6.) "Only You (And You Alone)" (This is another beautiful song sung by RINGO. Ringo sings this song like he is naturally flowing his happy and rejoicing voice from the gut and through the microphone. I love this song.) and (8.) "Oh My My." (This is another beautiful song sung by RINGO. Listening to these songs gives you the feeling that RINGO was indeed, an extremely talented individual. It doesn't surprise me that all four BEATLES were extremely talented in their own right.) The other songs such as "Back Off Boogaloo," "Beaucoups Of Blues," "Early 1970" and "I'm The Greatest" are also good songs that are great contributions from George Harrison and John Lennon. Overall, this is a very entertaining album which has some funny humor to it.
I would like to encourage everybody to purchase this album to own as part of their valuable music collection. This legendary compilation album will definitely stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.
In closing, RINGO STARR is here to stay. With the deaths of JOHN LENNON and GEORGE HARRISON, we now realize that a BEATLES reunion is now out of the question. RINGO STARR and PAUL MCCARTNEY are now all that remains of the original FAB FOUR. We as fans should enjoy them while they're still here while we still can. Here's to you RINGO. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. Keep On Rockin'. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. THE BEATLES FOREVER. RINGO RULES. R.I.P John Lennon and George Harrison. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever in Rock, John L.
It's a Blast!.......2007-01-06
I docked this a star for the cd being so short. Back when this was released on vinyl, 10 or 11 songs was fine, but on CD it seems skimpy. Anyway, if you remember Ringo's big hits of the early 70's, they're pretty much all here, and they all sound great. Maybe a more complete retrospective will be released someday, but for now, if you need to hear "The No No Song," or "It Don't Come Easy," go ahead and pick this up.
Having a BLAST listening to Ringo.......2006-11-10
Love this CD. I especially like hearing songs I haven't heard before, like Early 1970, all about Ringo and the lads. Ringo is still my favorite Beatle!
Good, but incomplete.......2006-11-03
This is just a song-for-song release of the 1976 album. It only has 10 songs and is woefully incomplete. The orignal album was even missing a few songs that were hits before the album was release including Oo-Wee (which was a Top 40 hit), Snookeroo (which was the B-side of the No No Song, but received enough air play for it to be listed as a double sided hit), and Goodnight Vienna, which also received a fair amount of air play in 1975. It does have some great songs like Photograph, It Don't Come Easy, and Back Off Boogaloo, but it is long past time for an update. Ringo has had some good stuff since this album was released. Time to either release an all new greatest hits package spanning his entire solo career or do a new edition of this with bonus tracks!

Ringo Starr's various late-career All Star bands may have been somewhat shaggy, nostalgia-laden affairs, but they found a warm reception with audiences far and wide. But the concept of Starr gathering a roster of stellar musician friends in a comfortable, partylike atmosphere was hardly a new one. Until 1973's Ringo, Starr's solo work had been a strange mix of quirky exercises in nostalgia (Sentimental Journey), country & western (Beaucoups of Blues) and Beatles-esque top 10 hits ("It Don't Come Easy," "Back Off Boogaloo"). But under the big-budget aegis of producer Richard Perry, Starr gathered an impressive roster of musician friends (including all three fellow Beatles, the Band's Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, Rick Danko, and Garth Hudson, and Harry Nilsson, Marc Bolan, Billy Preston and a dozen others) to record what remains the best album of his solo career. The Fabs contributions are warm and heartfelt, especially John Lennon's tongue-in-cheek romp, "I'm the Greatest," a track that outshines even George Harrison's upbeat sea-shanty "Sunshine Life for Me (Sail Away Raymond)" and Paul McCartney's pop-flavored "Six O'Clock." But Ringo also proved that Starr himself was no slouch in the hit-making department, cowriting the hits "Photograph" (with Harrison) and "Oh My My," while making the Johnny Burnette chestnut "Only Sixteen" all his own. --Jerry McCulley

Ringo Ringo Starr.......2007-03-18
Good. It has some of the old familiar songs and songs that weren't hits. I love the song Devil Woman. Worth the money.
34 YEARS OLD STILL BETTER THAN CURRENT CRAP.......2007-02-01
THIS IS REAL MUSIC BY REAL MUSICIANS, NOT THE SCHLOCK, CRAP NOISE THAT IS FORCED ON US TODAY, IT IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS THAT HAS STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. IF RECORD COMPANIES ARE LOOSING MONEY IT ISN'T BECAUSE OF FREE DOWN LOADS, IT IS THAT THEY ONLY OFFER US CRAP THAT THEY WANT US TO HEAR, WELL MY MONEY GOES TO THE GREAT OLD REAL MUSIC AND THIS IS ONE OF THEM. A REAL MUSICAL CLASSIC ALBUM.
Ringo is a star.......2007-01-14
Very nostalgic. When I was a kid, Photographs was the first song I ever heard true "stereo" on. Listening almost 25 years later, half the songs are pretty good, have are really kind of lousy, but the nostalgia is all great!!
Great music.......2007-01-04
Here is a person who knows how to bring life to a party with his music. Great cd
Still awesome.......2007-01-03
It is still refreshing to hear Ringo And the songs are still as I remember it would be nice if all the studios would make all of the songs available to the public

Customer Reviews:
One of my favorite CDs! Amazing Rock and Roll!.......2007-06-20
Let me start by saying that I am totally obsessed with this album. I have owned it for several years now and I never get tired of listening to it. I even bought the DVD of the concert after being blown away by the CD! True, I am a Baby Boomer. True, I grew up with the Beatles and Eric Clapton. But, for me, that was a very long time ago in so many ways. I am not "A Fan". I am a normal woman who likes music but would certainly never (under most circumstances) take the time to rate it here on Amazon. The point is, I can't remember the last time I listened to a recording that literally made the hair stand up on the back of my neck! This is amazing Rock and Roll and I defy anyone who claims to be unmoved by the magnitude of this music and the musicians who wrote, and now perform it. I have a new, deep appreciation for the performing artists that Paul McCartny, Ringo Star (yes, even Ringo!) and Jeff Lynn have become; the enduring relevance of the music of George Harrison, the composer; and the deep abiding faith that Eric Clapton is indeed GOD. Eric Clapton was the music director for this concert and the results are extraordinary. Especially wonderful are "Something" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton and "My Sweet Lord" by Billy Preston. Two "negatives": a great performance of "Horse to Water" by Jools Holland and Sam Brown is omitted from the CD and it would have been great if Bob Dylan had been able to be at the concert. That said, this is a great, historic concert by giants of Rock and Roll. It belongs in your library.
Where's "HORSE TO WATER"?!?!?!.......2007-06-02
Have the DVD, bought the "soundtrack" for "Horse To Water" and guess what? IT'S NOT ON IT!!! What kind of "soundtrack" would eliminate, what to me, was one of the highlights of the concert (not to mention, "I'll See You In My Dreams"!) VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! This has ruined what would have been a "Classic CD" to me. Should have named this CD, "SELECTIONS from the CONCERT FOR GEORGE"... STILL 5 stars!
Tribute to George.......2007-05-28
Disc 2 is a fabulous collection of music by artists paying tribue to the music of George. It is wonderful music-I would recommend it to anyone who loves the Beatles work and the music that George loved.
Hard to beat!.......2007-03-09
The collection of talent and the performances on this 2-disc piece of work are exceptional. A superb tribute to an extraordinary artist. Harrison's ability and range were a marvelous contribution to music. Disc 2 alone is worth the bucks.
Fabulous tribute - amazing songs.......2007-01-14
So many people know GH that to add comment is hard, but this tribute concert reveals how Harrison affected the community of English players in his life - It's also great to hear versions of his songs that while true to form, come off in a new light as done by the Clapton-led band and remind us how prolific and original George was once he got out from under the shadow of John and Paul - he started humbly yet persisted with amazing discipline to create his own sound and style, which while not everyone's cup of tea, stands alone as significant work in the evolution of pop rock in the 20th century - may he rest in peace

Lots of musical horsepower from a damn good band........2007-06-30
Ringo will go down in musical history as "The least annoying Beatle". We all sort of thought when the fab four quit that Ringo would end up in one of those "Where are they now?" columes in Rolling Stone magazine. No such deal. He proved to be a hell of a musician, a top rate drummer and knows how to always surround himself with the best in the biz. Paul should take some notes. Such was the case with Goodnight Vienna. I love this album!! A first class turn-it-up-loud and blow the f**kin speaker cones out on the floor recording. Ringo had to work a bit trying to find himself a band after the Beatle split but it didnt take long. Goodnight Vienna is a hot 70's post Beatle rocker that plays well in the 21st century. The title cut is a John Lennon contribution that could only have been a Ringo tune. You'll never hear a rock vocalist with no vibrato, projection and range crank it out like Ringo did on this album.
Goodnight Vienna Ringo Starr.......2007-03-18
Good. If you liked him in the Beatles then you would like him in his own band. Some of the songs are cute. I am a music collector and would recommend this to anyone who liked the 60's and 70's.
MUST-HAVE Ringo.......2006-06-17
This album and "Ringo" are required albums for any music library that is going to have Ringo Starr. All the songs on the album are well-made but if I had to choose my top five favorites, they would be
1. Goodnight Vienna
2. Oo-Wee
3. Only You (And You Alone)
4. Snookeroo
5. Call Me (come on now...its kinda 'groovy')
For anyone who wants the best of Ringo Starr, definitely pick this up along with Ringo and Stop and Smell the Roses.
Very very good.......2004-10-13
It's not quite the Ringo album since there are few masterpiece moments, but the overall quality is very high. Most of the songs are a lot of fun. My favourite song is No No song, it's a perfect piece of catchy pop and utilises Ringo's personality briliantly. It also has a great exotic flavour. Only you is a bit like John Lennon's version of Stand By Me, an uptempo folk song with a pop music feel. Easy for me is a haunting ballad with a classical music feel. I love the reprise of the rocking title track where Ringo shouts out "With gusto boys, with gusto!". Other standouts are All by myself, the title track and the beautiful folk ballad Husbands and WIves that is very touching and wouldn't be out of place on a Bob Dylan album. A great 70's pop music album.
With gusto, boys!.......2004-07-08
This was Ringo's fourth solo album. While not as good as his triumphant third album, it still has it's moments. It pretty much follows the "formula" of his third album, by including some songs Ringo wrote, some songs his friends wrote for him and some cover versions of other people's songs. The big hits were "No No Song" and "Only You". The CD version features three bonus tracks. "Back Off Boogaloo" was a Top Ten hit. The strange "Blindman" was the b-side of "Back Off Boogaloo" and was also the title song to a western Ringo starred in. "Six O'Clock" was originally featured on Ringo's third album. This is the extended version that previously only appeared on promo copies of the third album. It runs over a minute longer than the normal version and you can hear Paul McCartney's backing vocals more clearly on it. Recommended to Ringo's fans.

Ringo Rocks!.......2007-04-12
Another sample of the greatness of an All-Starr Band show. Ringo is the heart of the band's set. A must buy.
Good overall.......2007-04-03
Good songs, but the entire band is not listed anywhere (have to go to the web to find out who else is playing). Also, based on the tour it's from there could have been a couple of additional songs that were left out. But the performances are up to the standards of his usual all-star casts, even though Supertramp has never been a favourite if mine (and 3 of the songs on here are theirs). Shelie E & Howard Jones are particularly good.
great music.......2006-09-07
I bought this thinking it was his 2006 All Star Band--it's not but that's ok. Lots of good songs--some of the old standards on all the All Star Tours. Rodger Hodgson, Ian Hunter and Greg Lake were GREAT additions. The only disappointing thing was I like the booklets in cd's that have stories about the artists, songs, tours, etc and this had nothing but the track listings. Overall...classic Ringo--fun from beginning to end.

Keep them coming, Capitol!!.......2007-05-18
Okay, we're ready for Vol. 3 now, please! I eagerly await the next four albums, "Yesterday And Today", "Revolver", "Sgt. Pepper" and "Magical Mystery Tour". Is Capitol stalling because of EMI's imminent release of the remastered British albums? I hope not. I'd like to see Capitol finish the series all the way through "Abbey Road". And for good measure, throw in "The Beatles Story" and the UA version of "A Hard Day's Night" while you're at it. If anyone in the marketing department at Capitol is reading this, I implore you to release "Yesterday And Today" with the original butcher cover. It's been more than 40 years since that album's release and I don't think anyone today would find it in poor taste. So come on! Let's get the next four out!
Speculation on Vol 3 release.......2006-05-13
I've read commentary on what might or should be included in the next release in the series, The Capitol Albums Vol 3. Since this series is meant to recreate on CD, the original tracks both in mono and stereo, that capitol released in the U.S. from 1964 through 1967, the only logical choices are Yesterday and Today, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour. All subsequent Beatle albums were released on their Apple label. They should not be included and I trust will not be included in this capitol series. Just a note: A Hard Days Night (the UA version) was released by Capitol in the late 70s' or very early 80s' as was their entire catalogue (including the Apple releases) until EMI decided to release only the European versions in the late 1980s' But only contained stereo mixes in those releases.
Keep Going Through Their Entire Career, Please.......2006-04-14
As you can see, Capitol released the second set of Beatles albums onto CD for the first time in the US configurations. This will represent the four LPs that were originally released during 1965: "The Early Beatles", "Help! Original Soundtrack", "Beatles VI" and "Rubber Soul".
The highlight of this set is definitely the US "Rubber Soul", which actually has a more folksy feel than the UK counterpart. Incredibly, I find it more preferable to the UK one as I find songs like "Drive My Car" kind of out of place in comparison to other material on the US version.
Don't get me wrong, I love "Drive My Car", but since I first heard it on the "Yesterday and Today" compilation in the 70s, I have always thought of it as a 1966 tune, more appropriate for "Revolver" than a 1965 tune on "Rubber Soul". Time has allowed me to get used to the UK version of "Rubber Soul" (We've only had 19 years to listen to this version in the US.), but the US version is one of the best "compilations" of mid-60s Beatles music ever to come out if you don't want to consider it The Beatles actual vision.
As far as the other discs go, they are actually very weak in comparison to other earlier and later material, and with good reason. With constant touring, The Beatles well had basically dried up for a time. So all of the material from the UK "Beatles For Sale" and US "Beatles '65" and "Beatles VI" LPs are slightly more weak. That's just being nitpicky as they always seemed to put out great stuff.
People quibble about the US version of "Help!". I may be in the minority, but I enjoy those Ken Thorne instrumentals. I hope that Capitol sees fit to release the United Artist "A Hard Day's Night" soundtrack with its instrumentals intact as well. It makes it seem like a movie soundtrack than just a collection of songs like the UK "Help!" is.
I definitely prefer the UK "Please Please Me" to the US "The Early Beatles", but what can you do? Capitol got the rights back to the early songs and duly released a belated collection that everyone had purchased a zillion times over on Vee-Jay, so I am glad it is here for that reason alone.
Another MUST BUY!

Needs A Sequel!.......2007-04-03
With so many different versions of some songs available, and some left off competely (Octopus' Garden, Goodnight, Conquistador, etc.), this is a huge and welcome addition to any Ringo (or classic rock) collection--but even at the risk of repeating several songs, the alternate versions of some of Ringo's classics with different line-ups, plus the extra material not used (partially for that reason) beg for a sequel!
The Best of The Best.......2006-04-14
These 3 CDs contain the very best of Ringo Starr And His All-Starr Band from 1989 to 2000. With performers like Joe Walsh, Randy Bachman, John Entwistle, Billy Preston, and so many other rock greats, there is something to please almost every rock music fan. Many rock classics are played, such as "Life in the Fast Lane," "Takin' Care of Business," "Will it Go Round in Circles," "American Woman" and "I Feel Free." Not to mention Ringo's own songs, which include "It Don't Come Easy," "Photograph," "Back Off Boogaloo," and his usual assortment of Beatles songs. This CD is an absolute thrill for any rock music fan.
It DOES Come Easy!.......2005-07-17
This neat and convenient 3-CD package contains the best of his All-Starr Band tours from 1989-2000. You get to hear all of Ringo's big songs, including "Photograph," "It Don't Come Easy," "Yellow Submarine," "Back Off Boogaloo" and more. Ringo sounds stronger on this CD than he did on his 2001 or 2003 tours. Maybe age really can hit a Beatle! After all, he is 65 now. The other performers are quite good too. I really liked John Entwistle's "Boris The Spider" (I am a huge fan of the Who also). Other reviewers have complained about sound quality, but I don't think it's that bad. But then again, I spend a lot of my time listening to bootlegs, so maybe I'm just used to it.
Great Listening & Historical Too!.......2004-08-13
I highly recommend you purchase this CD & the accompanying DVD. Great songs, (all of which you will know) played by musicians who obivously checked the own indivdual egos at the door. My only complaint about the CD (and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is first, the engineering & mixing of these songs. In some cases the volume level of these songs are so low, you really need to crank your stereo to hear properly. Then the next song will come on, and your speakers just shake your room because of the volume levels being set to high. Secondly, in some cases the vocals are lost behind the instruments. Lastly (and this is just my own personal opinion) the CD was great listening too, until the end of disc 3. I never was a fan of Eric Carmen, and his 2 songs at the end of the CD just ruin a fun filled CD. His songs just bring the CD to a screeching halt. I would have loved to hear Joe Walsh's Rocky Mountain Way, or additional songs from Billy Preston and/or Burton Cummings, who only received 1 song from each. Other than that, I still highly recommend buying this CD. It's not only great listening, but it's historical too!
This CD Set Didn't Digest Easily.......2003-04-25
This Ringo Starr music-lover has been buying tunes from Amazon for almost as long as they've been selling them but this is the first review I've cared to write. I often turn to Amazon for its "complete" musical selection -- particularly for performers like Ringo Starr -- which brick-and-mortar music stores often don't carry. This album of Ringo's though, is less than I would've expected, far less, particularly in quality of audio. There are some groups, like Pink Floyd, whose live concert recordings are the equal of studio recordings. This album doesn't even come close and it becomes apparent from the get-go with one of Ringo's anthem songs, "It Don't Come Easy."
Simply put, the instruments more often than not overwhelm voices. Some of the era's finest rock stars perform some of their finest respective songs on this album but are so woefully recorded that you have to wonder if any forethought, whatsoever, went into planning the recording.
In "It Don't Come Easy" it's as if the dudes sitting at the mixer controls -- at about Ringo's second stanza -- all-of-a-sudden realize that his voice is barely heard and make noticeable adjustments at that time.
Peter Frampton's "Show Me The Way" is a tune in which the integration of his guitar playing is an essential part of the song's popularity. While discernable, it does not have the prominent role found on Frampton's studio or "live" albums.
Ringo's voice has never been particularly robust or forceful. While other album producers have been careful to capture the essence of his enjoyable style, this album fails miserably in that department. On "You're Sixteen, You're Beautiful And You're Mine," one frequently cannot hear Ringo's complete enunciation of "sixteen" and "... you're mine" as his voice trails and is overwhelmed by the instruments.
Being a longtime Ringo fan -- I even very much enjoy his very country "Beaucoups of Blues" album -- I had eagerly awaited this compilation but now wish I hadn't wasted the money, for it won't get another play on any of my systems.
