4 out of 5 stars Reverend back from the dead.......2004-05-16

I would say the hardest of all Reverend cd's to get your hands on. Why? For a short time you could buy if from the Reverend website, but now it's down. Yes as others have written it only has 4 tracks. The best song is "Legion" I like this tune better than the original Fake Healer, it's heavier, has darker lyrics. Next best song Massacre of The Innocent - a well written song, very heavy, excellent drums, basically about war. 3rd on the list is Down also well written, not quite as fast as massacre of the innocent but still a great tune. The topic here is political corruption. Last but not least is Stealing My Mind, seems to be just a short filler.
One thing this album has over previous Reverend productions is the high quality of the mix. You will notice a huge difference between older Reverend releases & Gathering of Demons....the drums just sound amazing, they really stand out. Todd didn't an amazing job on the production, I even emailed him & told him so. Lastly for all you Mike Howe fans don't hold your breath he lives down south with his wife & has no plans to ever come back to the music buiz. The new metalchuch singer for the new album is Ronny Monroe.

1 out of 5 stars the good thing is that its over quick.......2002-04-20

ya they can't manage to churn out more than 4 songs on 2 of their 4 albums but then that's a good thing. i have 'em all as well as the metal chuch albums as well. this might be the worst out of all of 'em. Mike Howe is such a better singer, it isn't even funny. by now, David Wayne's screeching voice is utterly annoying and his lyrics about evil this and evil that are cartoonish and childish. and no the Fake Healer cover is not better, it's not good whatsoever...Fake Healer (the Metal Church version) was a good song with meaningful lyrics about how the medical industry screws you. he has lyrics with nonsense about eeeeevil this and eeeevil that while he squeals ad naseum like we're all supposed to be scared or something. and they don't nearly play it as well, nor is the production quaility there. sorry Dave, we've all grown up now, this is just garbage.

5 out of 5 stars Reverend tops Metal Church.......2001-07-31

Reverend has always been the coolest band that nobody has ever heard of, and A Gathering of Demons would surely be their greatest recording if only it was longer than 4 songs. The song Legion is a remake of Metal Church's "Fake Healer"- but with different, better lyrics. David Wayne has lost none of the screech from his Metal Church days and all 4 songs jam in the extreme. Even the cover is happenin'. Destined in the future to be a hard to find underground classic.

4 out of 5 stars A must for Metal Church/Reverand/David Wayne fans.......2001-06-25

ACTUALLY 3-1/2 STARS -- This Reverend Album, the only one not out-of-print and recent, is worth buying if you are a fan of the band, or of Metal Church or singer David Wayne. The music seems a bit simple, but is played well and is backed up by the dynamic vocals of Wayne. The CD contains only 4 tracks, hence the lower cost, and the 4th track, "Legion," is actually written by Metal Church's Kurdt Vanderhoof, Craig Wells, and David Wayne. In my opinion, its the best on the disk. The other 3 tracks, "Massacre the Innocent," "Down," and "Stealing My Mind," are enjoyable but have a hard time stacking up against older Reverend albums (what wouldn't?) Absent from the album are the wonderful remakes that has made both Reverend (Hand of Doom) and Metal Church (Highway Star) great. All in all, I would say the album is a winner, but leaves me wondering why it is so short.
