It may be too cynical to assume Hybrid Theory changed its name to Linkin Park in order to appear right next to Limp Bizkit in your local record bin. But rock-rap workouts like "One Step Closer" and "Papercut" do make Linkin Park a comfortable fit with Fred Durst and his ilk. Producer Don Gilmore (Pearl Jam, Lit, Eve 6) and twin vocal threats Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda serve up industrial-strength rap and rock melodicism with equal aplomb on this woulda-been-self-titled debut effort. "Points of Authority" aims to sound like Trent Reznor wanking it up with Lars and company, whereas guitarist Brad Delson's Edge-y harmonics help "In the End" and "Pushing Me Away" evoke a dark romanticism akin to A Perfect Circle. Curiously, the band gets by with no bass player, while sample-happy DJ Joseph Hahn's step into the spotlight on the instrumental "Cure for the Itch" suggests a potential for eclecticism that could help Linkin Park outlive its seemingly transient genre. --Bill Forman

5 out of 5 stars BEST.ALBUM.EVER........2007-06-19

This is one of those albums that is almost impossible to outdo. Every song is brilliant. Meteora and Minutes To Midnight were fantastic, but I find myself grabbing this one whenever I'm craving LP. I rank this #1 in my HUGE music collection.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2007-06-16

If you like Linkin Park you will enjoy this CD because it rocks!!!

4 out of 5 stars Good music, great hooks, different style. .......2007-05-25

Linkin Park is not metal. They are considered nu-metal or maybe alternative metal, but don't expect balls-out metal. There is rapping, lots of melody, scratching, and some hip-hop elements combined with a hard-edged rock sensibility. They have a very polished, distinguishable sound that pours out of any sound system with gusto. I usually enjoy heavier music, such as Lamb of God and Mastodon, but I really keep my mind open to other styles as well. LP is just too good to ignore. They have a knack for writing hit songs and yet it doesn't seem like they are trying too hard. When I listen to heavy music, there has to be great riffs, vocals, and hooks. If any of those three things is missing, I shelve it. LP has all three and this was one of the best cds of 2000. It took awhile to convert me, but I consider them to be one of the better bands to come out of the nu-metal scene. The entire cd is great, no filler. Lots of hit songs. "Papercut", "One Step Closer", "Crawling", "In the End" and "Points of Authority".

5 out of 5 stars My very fave CD.......2007-04-07

I didn't buy this CD when it first came out. I went to basic military training and my brother bought this CD for me as a gift. I did not usually listen to rock but mostly R&B at the time so I thought I wouldn't like it. But I had to live in the dorms while I did some more trainng and my roommate would always talk on the phone at 3 in the morning so I would play this CD in my CD player with the headphones on to get me to sleep. It got to the point where I would play it every night regardless if my roommate was on the phone or not. Every song on here is classic and I love how it flows. I think that LP was the first in coming out with this new sound and I think that they set the bar for all other groups out there. I love their creativity and I have every single one of their CDs. Even the remakes. Yes, I am an avid fan. I just hate how they take so long to come out with a new CD. I am always craving more when I hear a new LP CD. All in all, if you are not wanting to hear the mainstream types of music they play on MTV over and over, try this CD. Its awesome!

5 out of 5 stars yeh i gave it 5 stars.......2007-04-02

I'll be honest, when I first heard about this album and linkin park I thought...ugh, what crap. But that is with only knowing about the first single they put out and not listening to the whole album.
so lets get it outta the way, linkin park is a pre fab, pretty much no talent, nu metal, rap rock type of band. Plus i really dont like the people in the band either..
but damn this album is actually really good. Every song flows really well. Whether they wrote these songs or not, no matter how much computer processing was needed to make that lead singer guy somewhat sound in key...I don't care, what's on this album sounds good...so good that it is one of my favorite albums of all time.
When I listen to this album I just listen to the music without letting what I know about the band bother me or irk my opinion at all.
That's the way this album needs to be heard, otherwise you'll be so bothered by the fact that you like it, you just might break the cd.

5 out of 5 stars better than Rising Tide.......2007-02-04

I loved Rising Tide. but after playing it for a few days, I grew quite tired of it. and after listening to the Mixtape, I realized what I was missing. The Mixtape is absolutely worth listening, it is like no other remix out there. I mean, Jimi Hendrix remix? hell yes! My favorite is the Bloc Part ft. Apathy and Styles of Beyond. and including Lupe Fiasco just made this mixtape all the more enjoyable. GET THIS

Wow. Now let me repeat myself. Wow.
This is a Mixtape Masterpiece.
Now first off, I'd just like to point out that this Mixtape, is in fact legal.
Not like most Mixtapes that are actually illegal.

Second of all, I'd like to mention that, like most all Mixtapes, this Mixtape only contains "Explicit Content", and yet does not contain a "Parental Advisory" sticker.

Thirdly, I'd also like to mention that Mike Shinoda himself (aka Fort Minor) has said that anyone who wants to, may download this Mixtape for free off of the internet, and he (Mike Shinoda) actually debuted the Mixtape for free download on the internet, before it was ever even released in CD format, on a well hidden MySpace page.
So after you've purchased the Mixtape CD, feel free to make copies of it, and give it to friends, but please encourage them to also buy a copy, so as to support M. Shinoda (aka Fort Minor), along with getting a copy or two of "The Rising Tied".

And fourth, I'll give you the complete tracklisting.

5 out of 5 stars Dope.......2006-04-18

This is the best mixtape I've ever heard. I'm not really into the mixtape scene, primarily because most of them recycle the same beats too much for me, but this one is way different. Fort Minor got creative with this one.

The production on this mixtape is off the charts. It makes the cd. Shinoda kills this mixtape production wise, and he is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers in the game. This cd contains some innovative sampling from bands you wouldn't expect to hear on a hip hop mixtape including: Guns N Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Rush, and Bloc Party; and some of the beats on here will amaze you.

Shinoda is not the most gifted emcee, but he is capable of holding his own on the mic. Apathy and Lupe Fiasco spit some fire on this cd though. Styles of Beyond and Celph Titled have their moments on the mic as well. There is even surprise guest appearance by Juelez Santana on here, who spits a hot verse also.

The official cd Fort Minor put out-"The Rising Tied" used to get a lot of air time in my whip, but this mixtape has pretty much replaced it in my cd rotation. One of my boys told me "DUDE, You GOTTA burn this cd for me" after hearing three songs on it. Fort Minor: We Major is an underground gem.

Here is a quick summary of this review--You want to own this cd. The End.

5 out of 5 stars Linkin Park is cool.......2006-05-23

The best songs in the"Hybrid Theory" are In The End, Runaway, Crawling and may others. The rocks song of theirs are great and the hip hop music is fabulous. I really like Linkin Park

5 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2006-01-01

Ok this is a great album by all means. But im sorry I HAVE to adress this cotton hell loser. First of all jennifer while brad delson is a good guitarist he doesnt blow any of the people you named away in any sence of the word. 2nd of all Linkin park does not blow Killswitch Engage or Chimaira away either, are you some kind of retard or simpleton? Dude seriously while this is a good album and a great listen raise up off these guys nu*s its not gonna get you backstage or VIP treatment. Grow up and get a grip on reality before somebody slaps it into you.

Moving on now this is a good album for a listen here and there but does get repetative, I had the pleasure of seeing these guys live in 2003 on the Summer Sanitarium tour in Columbus Ohio with names such as Mudvayne (who by the way is the best and put on by far the best show). Mudvayne stole the show and im not saying this because they are my favorite band. Anybody that was at the show can vouche for that. Anyway Linkin Park did do an amazing live set also but they are not better then this moron leads you on to believe.

By this time the band name has been around long rnough to be noticed and become known. Anybody that owns this album knows how good it is. Anybody that doesnt just plainly flat out doesnt like them, not everybody is gonna share your opinion moron.

SORRY

5 out of 5 stars This Thing Kicks Ass.......2005-07-29

If you want a good rock cd that contains a lil bit of rap buy it
Linkin Park sounded like one of those AC/DC Wanabees to me. But i tried it out it it sounded amazing. Another good thing with linkin park is that if you like 1 song by them you'll likke them all, not that they all sound the same mind you.

1 out of 5 stars LiNkIn PaRk Is BeTtEr ThAn N-E-OnE!.......2005-04-30

Linkin Park is, like, the best band eva! They blow poser bands like Machine Head, Killswitch Engage, Fear Factory and Chimaira away! Forget those posers, why can't they be on MTV and VH1? Because they suck! Chester is such a great vocalist! Forget Phil Anselmo and Tom Arraya and all those other fags who can't sing worth s**t! Linkin Park is so what's happening! Brad Delson can play the guitar a million times better than Jimi Hendrix, Kerry King, John Petrucci and Yngwie Malmsteen combined! This band will blow all those poseurs out of the water, along with Good Charlotte, Limp Bizkit, Simple Plan and Green Day! MTV RULES!

1 out of 5 stars Linkin Park/Heavy Metal or Hard Rock?.......2006-03-20

Rascal Flatts is closer to "Real" Hard or Metal then the likes of Linkin Park or Hawthorn Heights. Honestly take a listen to Linkin Park or Hawthorn Heights granted they have hard driving beats and heavy gutar riffs and some "Screaming" but the also use alot of Electronica in their music. The fact every song they do has the very same theme as the last "No One Understands Me" or "Lifes not fair" and sometimes "You did me wrong I hate you" these guys have nothing original or socialy conscience to say outside their own little box. They sound less like the origins of Heavy Metal such as "AC/DC" or "Iron Maden" or Even "Motely crue" but more like crying teenagers moaning over rock beats and calling it Heavy Metal. Todys music world is pressed for sucess before the age of 25, without real life expereince to write lyrics and vocal maturity these band fall flat of the true greatness they have the potential to own. Without that "Life Experience" and "Edge" this may as well be the next effort of the Backstreet Boys going rock.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Mistake Me.......2002-06-27

Don't mistake me. Linkin Park rules. While all the additional songs are great, is it really worth [the money]? What the hell?!?! I bought it for [less](okay, I bought it in Asia). 5 extra tracks (Papercut live, Points of Authority live, A Place for My Head Live, My December, and High Voltage) may be worth an additional [amount] for the rich hard-core Linkin Park fan, but downloading it off the net would be a lot cheaper.
My December is somewhat like a very slow In the End, but gets tedious if you listen to it everyday. High Voltage is the black sheep of the album, totally unrock like, but very catchy and fast pace. The live tracks are basiclly distorted versions of the original that is either annoying or else refreashing. Overall, this is an excellent album that is way over-priced.

5 out of 5 stars Money.......2002-06-04

Great CD I love the 2 xtra tracks but is it really worth about $50 for 2 track I mean seriously go buy the My December single for $7.

5 out of 5 stars Great Additional Tracks! Great CD!.......2002-05-16

At first, Linkin Park's "One Step Closer" sounded like just another modern rock group but when "Crawling" was released, I was urged to check out this CD, in which it included some non-album songs and some live performances...Surprisingly, if this is your first time to buy an LP record, (and good news to parents too!) this alternative band never swore in their albums..I admire Mike Shonda the most, because he was able to balance his vocals and the strong, very strong vocal chords of Chester Bennington (check out My December).

1) Papercut- DJ Hahn showed off his skills on the turntables on this third single.. One of my favorites.

2)One Step Closer- Personally, I didn't really like this song that much but the combination of Chester and Mike's aggressive voices were extremely off the hook!

4) Points Of Authority- Another great loud track. This is much better than One Step Closer...Great music by DJ Hahn.

5) Crawling- This is certainly the best song ever! This is one of the haunting rock songs I've heard (next to "Iris" of course).. the music was just breathtaking. Chester's harmonious voice on the first stanzas and breaking it in the chorus was awesome.

6) Runaway- Another loud track..I'm still listening to it.

8) In The End- Obviously, Linkin Park's chart-topping song but I had enough of it...The catchy keyboard tune and the alternate singing of Chester and Mike was well done.

12) Pushing Me Away- One of the best tracks..Hope the DJs on the radio will play this track.

17) My December- The second best track to Crawling.. Contrast to the band's music, My December's music was not really a rock song...It ultimately concentrated on keyboards and turntables..Slow, catchy track.

The other tracks that were obviously good were the other 3 live performances.

Overall, this is a great record and you're truly lucky if you haven't bought the first one.

5 out of 5 stars Best Album of the Decade!!!!!!!!!!.......2002-04-04

This one you defantly dont want to pass up.. the newset song on the radio, "My December" has got the tightest beat I've heard in a long time. Be sure to add this one to your collection.

        5 out of 5 stars Awsome.......2003-09-11

When I got this CD ,I listened to it like ten times. It was great . I mean just Runaway and A Cure for the Itch make it awsome. Seriously this and Meteora are definatly CDs to buy if you already don't have it .

5 out of 5 stars Love these guys!.......2003-03-24

These guys are the only good rap-metal group out there. You should get this one along with their new one Meteora.

5 out of 5 stars This is one of the best.......2003-03-21

All I can say is that these guys have combined it all. Melody, rap, rock, lyrics, and the list can go on and on. If you want to listen to something that will give you the energy, or something that you can put in your cd player when everything else is overplayed, these guys will take care of that. Every song on this CD is of absolute quality, including the bonus tracks. One of the most positive items regarding this album is that they do not swear, therefor, you do not have to worry about your children getting any thoughts or ideas in their head, and blame it on the music. This group is about as real as you can get, and have a good point to their music. It is not just about coming up with what goes well, but have a theme to each track. I highly recommend this album, to all. I have parents who like to listen to them, and they are a primary listener to Classic Rock. A++++++ all the way.

        4 out of 5 stars 5 Star Album; 4 Star Bonus Tracks.......2002-10-04

Ok, to start off this review, I'll correct what Amazon put: there is NO bonus disc on this. Only 2 bonus tracks, "My December" and "High Voltage". Now that that's clear, let's move on...

Linkin Park's debut album, "Hybrid Theory", was the best-selling album of 2001, and my favorite album, ever. I liked every song, so I had to buy this album. I payed 35 ... dollars for 2 songs. Stupid? Yes. But, at the time, I didn't have a CD-burner, and I didn't know that the "One Step Closer" single also had the 2 bonuses, for 1/3 the price. But, I bought it, and I'm happy. Let's start off with "High Voltage", shall we? I give it a 4/5. Why not a 5? Because I HATE rap. I can stand rap-rock, which is what you will find on every track on the normal album. But, this is almost a straight-up rap song. Chester hardly sings (the part where he does is the best part in the whole song), and the only music is coming from the turntables. But, for some reason, instead of giving this a 2 or a 3 (or even a 0), I give it a 4. Not to suck up to LP, but because I like it, even after all I just said. Now for "My December". It's the more popular bonus track, and if you've ever seen Linkin Park live, you've probably heard this song, because they more-than-often play it. And, like "High Voltage", it's not typical Linkin Park. In this one, Chester pretty much sings the whole song. And, also like the last one, there's no member of the band playing their instruments except Joe Hahn. In this one, he makes his "beats", but it's also covered with a beautiful piano. I don't know if it's because I got it around Christmas or what, but, for some reason, this song DOES remind you of it. 5/5, b!tch.

5 out of 5 stars Hybrid Theory (+2 Bonus Tracks) [Import].......2002-08-02

Although I don't own this specific CD, I have heard the 2 additional tracks that it offers. After hearing those songs all I have to say is, wow! This is one of the best CDs I have ever purchased. You can listen to it over and over again and never get sick of it. With the smooth lyrics of Mike Shinoda and the screaming, yet strangely calm voice of Chester Bennington, everyone will be satisfied. Their combination of hip-hop, rock and electronica help to give the CD a great balance of form and function which will keep you hooked for hours on end.

I must say that "My December" and "In The End" are my favorite songs. "My December" steps away from the hardcore rock sound and adds that soothing, kick-back tone that will relax you yet also force you to put your CD player on repeat. One of my other favorite tracks is "Cure For The Itch", a song that any true hip-hop/turntablist fan will love. And for anyone that doesn't understand the name of the song, think about...how do you cure and itch? Scratch it, which is exactly what this track is, scratching!

If you haven't purchased this CD yet, do so, or if you already own Hybrid Theory and are merely looking for the 2 bonus tracks then you can purchase the "One Step Closer" single. Either way, pick up one of the two discs, you won't regret it!
