In the short time since they grouped together a few years ago to form their sensationally successful trio, the Irish Tenors have already put out an impressive array of recordings and DVDs, including some bona fide gooseflesh-inducing live concert performances. So, if you still have the enviable pleasure of discovering these amazing vocalists--or want to turn a friend on to their musical charms--this compilation CD will do the trick nicely. It brings together such classics as "Danny Boy," "Toora Loora Looral," "Last Rose of Summer," and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" (featuring John McDermott)--all rendered with the kind of passionate, heartfelt, and harmonious crooning that is their signature style, whether they're singing as an ensemble or as highlighted soloists. And even if you have the complete Irish Tenors, this anthology includes several numbers not found on their previously released CDs. Hard to think of a sweeter treat for a fan of singing too good to ever go out of fashion. --Sarah Chin

4 out of 5 stars Irish at it's best........2007-05-07

This album is really the number two album from this trio. It is very good and well worth the investment. The five star album by The Irish Tenors would have to be Heritage. Both albums rate high in my book.

5 out of 5 stars Irish Magic.......2006-08-21

This is my first CD of the Irish Tenors. And what a joy! I played it as soon as it arrived. I like the blend of their voices, the passion and enthusiasm they bring to this CD. What I find is a real treat is the words to all the songs are in the booklet.I love this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Just got your Kleenex.......2005-12-25

I suggest a box of Kleenex for each person in the room when you play this CD or VHS recording. Mom won't let me play it anymore because she...well, you know what I mean.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2005-12-12

When it's cold and frightful here, I play The BOYZ!

So wonderful. So much fun.

Up here in backwash Maine, there ain't much, believe me. But these guys are great. Sincere, care about what they're doing, true artists.

Ah, to go to Ireland again. Well, not unless the price of natural gas recedes!

5 out of 5 stars The Very Best of the Irish Tenors is just that!.......2005-01-22

This recording is wonderful. Ronan's "last Rose of summer" is unique, the Percy French medley shows all three in great voice, Finbar's Maggie is wonderful and the laurels have to go to Anthony for his magnificent rendition of "She moved through the fair", wow!!!!

Well worth buying.

4 out of 5 stars NOT THE BEST OF MOUNTAIN.......2007-06-17

Great stuff for the casual fan, but if you only want to own one Mountain album-Buy Twin Peaks. Even though it doesn't have Corky Laing. It's got almost every song on this CD plus the devinitive 30+ minute version of Nantucket Sleighride and alot more.

5 out of 5 stars THE FOUNDATION OF CLASSIC HARD ROCK HISTORY.......2007-06-13

If you like Led Zepp, Cream, Black Sabbath, and the Who, your going to love this cd! It is essential for wall of guitar sound lovers. Leslie West fires up his sonic howitzer with stacks of Sunn amplifiers. Felix Pappilardi leads the way through the musical firestorm with Corky Lang and Steve Knight in tow. Sure to make you deaf!

4 out of 5 stars Hard-hitting Rock from the Pioneers of Heavy Metal.......2007-05-11

Before there was Metallica, Guns n' Roses, Judas Priest, Van Halen, AC/DC, Motley Crue and too many others to list, there was a rock n' roll powerhouse in the early 1970's called MOUNTAIN...a band that kicked off their career at Woodstock and paved the way for a new style of rock we now know as "heavy metal".

Mountain was not a typical metal band though. They injected a strong dose of blues and boogie rock as well as atmospheric ballads in their music too. The guy who generated much of the band's power is the mighty Leslie West, a large man whose blistering guitar playing was matched by a set of roaring powerhouse pipes that makes other rock singers like Axl Rose and Robert Plant sound like screaming little girls in comparison. {Imagine how much better Led Zeppelin and Guns n' Roses would've sounded with the gritty, manly roar of West in place of the shrill, screeching vocals of Plant and Rose.}

This classic collection of Mountain's best-known songs is now enhanced with remastered sound, four bonus songs, and some informative notes that give some insight into the band. The album alternates between hard-hitting rockers sung by West {Never in my Life, Mississippi Queen, Don't look around} with melodic ballads sung by bass player Felix Pappalardi {Nantucket Sleighride, Theme from an imaginary Western, For Yasgur's Farm}. The explosive drumming of Corky Laing sounds remarkably like Keith Moon, especially on the heavy rocker "Don't look around" that has me wondering why he wasn't the Who's obvious choice for Moon's replacement in 1978!

What might be my favorite tune on the CD is the band's high-voltage remake of Chuck Berry's "Roll over Beethoven" that rocks harder than Berry's original version. West cuts loose with some hot solos that would make Chuck proud. As a new Mountain fan, I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes powerhouse blues-based rock with strong guitar and vocals.

5 out of 5 stars Much More Than Hard Rock To This Mountain..........2006-08-11

Now remastered with better sound and additional tracks The Best Of Mountain is the type of CD that fans who own their 4 other studio albums will buy anyway for the fine sequencing and overall straight ahead impact of assessing Mountain in one smart package..Their ist album Leslie West Mountain, then Climbing, and Nantucket Sleighride and their 1/2 studio 1/2 live Flowers Of Evil(Fillmore East NYC 1971) were all better than good affairs but this CD, with it's mixture of the raw melodic riffing power chords with tuneful balladry awash with spacey keyboards in the right moments all showcases this band that accomplished a lot as a hard rock outfit where Cream left off.. Mountain in it's short duration was a very mighty late 60's band and left an additional legacy of fine live jamming albums placing them as a group of impact..it's blend of hard rock via the guitar flash of Leslie West and thunder of drummer Corky Laing, with the interplay of Cream Producer bassist Pappalardi whose fine tuneful songs and earthy vocals as distinct from West's rasp were highly reminiscent of Cream's style..no wonder after Mountain, West and Laing joined up with Cream's bassist and songwriter,Jack Bruce...Pappalardi was unfortunately shot and killed later by his wife..

5 out of 5 stars CRIMINAL.......2006-12-19

I love OMD! I am from St. Louis, so this band is kinda hometown. They are from across the state but OMD are hometown to anyone in Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas. This is a brilliant collection of songs.

HOWEVER... it it absolutely CRIMINAL to not have included their most brilliant song of all. I'm talking about, You Know Like I Know. The vocals and songwriting are second to none. None of OMD, none of The Eagles and none of Poco.

Buy this CD anyway, it's great. In fact, buy everything they have ever released. I mean that in every since of the word.

THIS BAND HAS TALENT... SO MUCH TALENT... YOU CANNOT BELIEVE!

3 out of 5 stars One MAJOR missing piece .......2006-03-26

Sorry I have to break the 5-star-spell here. How you could put together a "Best of" for OMD and not include "Men from Earth"'s FLY AWAY HOME is beyond me!!! It's a moral outrage! It's worse than torture!!! It's.... okay, I'm messin'. But still, that is a terrific piece, their greatest in my mind, on all counts, and could easily have been in this package in lieu of "Jackie Blue". Never understood the popularity of that song, whimsical though it is. Anyway, do get Men From Earth just to hear, or at least to hear, FLY AWAY HOME. Country Rock at it's best.

5 out of 5 stars A good OMD compilation.......2005-09-14

The OMD have a very unique style, if I had to describe their overall style, I'd say it's like "psychadelic country". Even that isn't a complete description, but I think it comes pretty close. My personal favorite has always been "Jackie Blue", which is actually atypical of the usual OMD style. They are country with a bit of psychadelia and a little rock. This disc reflects their best hits and I'd highly recommend this to anyone who likes folk/rock and country/rock.

5 out of 5 stars juicereview.......2004-12-19

one of a kind band with a one of a kind sound. I bought this disc with no knowledge of the band whatsoever, and it has turned out to be one of the best decisions i have ever made, when it comes to music.

4 out of 5 stars Where's Black Sky???.......2004-05-26

No doubt this "would" be the definitive collection if it included the best song (along with Standing on a Rock) off the first album. Too bad...

5 out of 5 stars My review of the latest Caz Collection.......2001-08-24

This album is really great, compiling both slow and fast songs, traditional and new compositions, all in the unique Cazimero style. Add in the fact that most of these songs aren't avalible on CD yet, and this becomes a must buy! A great disc overall! In particular, I love "Kai Wai Lehua 'A'ala Ka Honua", "Na'Ale o Ni'ihau" and my all time favorite, "Makee Ailana". Can't wait for Volume 4!

    Album Description

The Best of The Brothers Cazimero is an album that will pull at the hearts of those that live or have visited the islands of Hawaii. The album conveys the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands all into a 17-track album. The Best of The Brothers Cazimero is sung both in Hawaiian and English and does justice to their noteworthy career. Definitely add this album to your collection if you want a taste of the magically and exotic Hawaiian Islands.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Brothers always maikai.......2007-02-18

The Cazimero Brothers are always maikai (good) but I usually prefer the songs they sing in Hawaiian as opposed to English. However, track #16 on this album, "Come Become Hawai'i" speaks to my heart. One hula halau in Kamuela was rehearsing the hula they were putting to this mele, and it absolutely gave me chicken skin. Beautiful to listen to- beautiful to look at. If you buy this album, be sure to listen carefully to the last track. It describes beautiful Hawai'i nei so perfectly. One of the things I love about traditional Hawaiian music is how often the songs describe the beauty of the islands & the Hawaiian people. Tears to my eyes-- joy to my heart. Mahalo nui to Roland & Robert.

    5 out of 5 stars very good.......2006-01-25

This cd is damn right impressive in that it only covers their first few albums, all of which i own by the way, and its perfect listening from top to bottom. This achievement not only ranks as one of the best hawaiian albums of all time, but one of the most beautifully and masterfully crafted pieces of art that this country should treasure.

5 out of 5 stars Play it when you feel 'homesick' for Hawaii.......2000-01-17

The Best of the Brothers Cazimero is bound to land on the CD players of anyone who has spent any time in Hawaii, as a means to summoning the beauty of the islands though far away.

The song "Nani Hanalei" takes me directly to the lovely island of Kauai, and the CD as a whole reminds me of driving on Molokai near sunset as the local public radio station played tunes from the Brothers Cazimero. They sing in Hawaiian and English, and this disk serves as a nice summary of their career.

    5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great...Period.......1999-08-23

This is a great compilations of the Brothers Cazimero's past recordings...I really like the first song

4 out of 5 stars Excellent contemporary sound with a Hawaiian flavor........1999-08-09

I bought this album recently in Honolulu and have enjoyed it often since bringing it home. The melodies and harmonies are truly lovely. Good contemporary listening with an island flavor; this is excellent romantic and mood music.

When i first picked up this cd, i must say that i was somewhat dubious in doing so. 'It's just another Grieg collection', i was thinking to myself. However, this collection is more than this. It offers an excellent insight to Norway's greatest composer. Fine for anyone who wishes to find out more about this great composer.

5 out of 5 stars My FAVORITE Caz CD.......2007-03-01

If I get a little homesick this CD is a surefire way to help cure the blues. It's got all my favorite BC tunes with a few exceptions and is "balanced" - a little bit of old style Hawaiian flavor with a fun kick. This one's a winner!

5 out of 5 stars Next best thing to a visit to the Islands.......2000-02-13

Listening to the Brothers Cazimero is the next best thing to a trip to the Hawaiian Islands. The range and exquisite harmony of the brothers' voices brightens even a cold, wet mainland day. The opening cut on this disk is one of my favorites. The disk combines straight Hawaiian work with English/Hawaiian pieces, always with a musicality that pleases. I have the first "Best of" as well, and frequently play them back to back. With a heat lamp, a quiet fan, and a little essential oil of tuberoses, I close my eyes, and I'm almost there.

    Album Description

In this collection, The Best of the Hawaiian Classics, Emma, with great warmth and understanding of her Hawaiian musical heritage, fuses notes and words into an emotional translation of the true meaning of Aloha. And, with the same mastery of interpretation, she explores the many treasures within the music of our ethnic groups. People which were to eventually fuse with one another and become the amalgam known as Hawai'i's Golden People.

4 out of 5 stars "Not Forgetting Details of Her ... Grace and Charm".......2005-10-29

After retirement from the steel business, Dave (with his wife, Virginia) spent each winter at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu, a pleasant escape from the chilly weather of central Ohio. I remember having breakfast with him at the Royal's Surf Room some years ago, where we were discussing local music changes during the 1980s. "It's not like it used to be" -- he said, as his eyes filled with tears -- "they're not like Emma" (although she was still active with special performances). He continued a monologue for some time about Emma - remembering few of her songs, but not forgetting details of her appearance, grace and charm. Emma made a favorable and lasting impression on generations of Mainland tourists who loyally attended her performances at the Halekulani or Royal Hawaiian, and bought her records, as Dave certainly did.

"The Best of Emma" is divided into three sections - much like her live performances. The first group of songs is her established favorites - mostly hapa haole - and the second group is traditional Hawaiian songs, sung mostly in the native language. She finishes with international songs from Japan, China, the Philippines, and Korea (music of the Islands' early settlers) - all sandwiched between her opener, Charles King's "The Hawaiian Wedding Song" (Ke Kali Nei Au) and the closer, Kui Lee's "I'll Remember You." I particularly enjoy "Kamehameha Waltz," "I'll Weave A Lei Of Stars For You," "Tutu," and "Chamarita," as well as the opener and closer - but, everything that Emma sings has become one of her classics.

    5 out of 5 stars Nostalgic Wonderment.......2005-08-02

Having taught school on Oahu 1970-75, I "grew up" with Emma, her music, and her husband's constant reference to her as "Golden Throat." Her music, after all these years, still brings tears to my eyes, and the memory of all that was at that time, what could have been, and never was. 'Life happens' to us all.

5 out of 5 stars Emma is the best.......2001-08-13

I had the great good fortune to see Emma in person when she was performing at an oceanside restaurant on Waikiki beach. Her pure voice and presentation of Hawaiian music of all types has stayed with me since the 1970's. I have owned the tape of this album since than and never tire listening to it.

Mahalo Emma for you selections . A mix of the well known standards and not so well known folk music.

Sit back and listen - if you enjoy Hawaiian music I think you will love this one.

    4 out of 5 stars Great.......1999-12-01

This is one of the best Mountain Stage CD's. I agree with the other reviewer, but I want to add a little. It's too bad that you can't sample some of the best songs on this CD. Maura O'Connell's Summerfly is wonderful. My personal favorite is Kathy Mattea's Where Have You Been, it makes me cry every time I hear it! If you are not very lucky in your marriage you won't get it.

    4 out of 5 stars Feel-Human Music.......1998-10-31

This is one of my favorite albums. If you needed a category I guess the closest thing would be "folk," but what would that tell you? The best music engages all your faculties, yes? From the dancing shoes to the sixteenth-note-follower to the grin and the tear ducts, all at once. Then it's feel-human music.

John Prine's "Big Old Goofy World." Amazing guitar picking lays the groundwork for, well, goofy, but also touching lyrics about similes: "Mind all your manners / Be quiet as a mouse / Some day you'll have a home / That's as big as a house... There's a big old goofy man / Dancin' with a big old goofy girl / Ooh, Baby! It's a big old goofy world."

"Tank Park Salute" about a man's loss of his father.

"Summerfly"--Maura O'Connell sings the great Cheryl Wheeler song. Jerry Douglas plays his mournful, sparkling, killer-groove Dobro.

"Simply"--Sara Hickman sings: "I'll tell you simply I've / Fallen for you / I've never felt this way before / I don't need flowers and /I don't mind tears..."

Jimmy Dale Gilmore sings, "These Blues ain't nuthin' like the blues I had before I paid a little debt I owed--When I get theses blues I just look back down that road."

The singers on this album approach & sometimes cross the borders of rude, sappy, and dumb. Like human beings with things to say. And boy, can some of them play.

By the way, if you're thinking of buying the album for R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion", listen to the RealAudio version first. This performance of it is acoustic (which is interesting, sure), but also plodding and almost mechanical.
