Good commercial Honky Tonk.......2006-01-30

Having grown up in Beaumont with Mark Chesnutt and the Texas Honky Tonk venues, I am qualified to say that this is a great CD. It's not as hard core Honky Tonk as Mark's Savin the Honky Tonk. I saw Zona in Moe's Place in Katy before I ever bought his CD. He and the Swing West Band cover all the Texas HT classics in a bar. This CD is a great romp. A couple of good Western Swing style songs, some great love songs and a couple of good Honky Tonk songs. My Hat's Off To Him is one of the great country waltzes originally recorded by Doug Stone. This CD is a must own. Somebody please save country music from the music executives!

Lovin' feelings . . ........2005-08-22

Zona Jones has a great voice and can deliver a country song with complete conviction, and if the smoother sentiments of Nashville suit you, you'll love this CD. But if your idea of honky tonk leans toward the rowdy, raunchy and rebellious, this set of songs will seem a little tame.

There are a couple rousing numbers that flirt with socially questionable behavior ("One Fool On a Stool" and "House of Negotiable Affections") and the title song is a lament about "movin' on" and the solo life of the independent cowboy soul more in love with the road than women.

But most of the CD is devoted to songs about loving feelings fulfilled ("Two Hearts," "Honky Tonk Baby," "I Said All This," "In My Eyes," "All of Me"), unfulfilled ("Whiskey Kind of Way," "Now We're Even," "My Hat's Off to Him") or in between ("Back in Your Arms," "I'll Give It to You"). Altogether, Jones is easy on the ears, but if you're more in the mood for real down and dirty Texas honky tonk, try Ed Burleson and Kevin Fowler.

Great Texas-style Country Music.......2005-02-15

I must echo one reviewer's thought: If you're tired of the Nash-pop (...) the radio stations are sadly paid to play -- and want some good ol' Texas-style honkey-tonk country music, this is one for you. It is an up-to-date yet traditional Texas sound that is great listening and great for the dance floor. Zona Jones comes from the proud Beaumont honky-tonk tradition that bore the likes of George Jones, George Strait, and Mark Chestnut. Don't let this one slip by you.

Harley & Horses.......2004-05-14

I have this CD and I LOVE it!!!!! Every song on this CD is fabulous! Zona Jones brings country music back to life. It seems now days that everybody is trying to jump on the "country music train" putting out just about anything they think they can sing and I'm not too impressed with what I've been hearing lately. In my opinion there isn't a new artist that I've heard that stand out more than Zona Jones. I wish a BIG label would pick Zona up and put him on the radio. He has an amazing voice and I love his music. He's a true Gentleman with a good heart; who always takes time to meet and talk with his new fans and catch up with the fan's who have been following him for years. I believe he's just what Country Music needs. So here's to a GREAT CD "Harley & Horses"!!!

Zona Jones does not disappoint........2004-03-27

I have been a fan of Zona Jones ever since 1995, when I first heard him sing. To correct the above review.... Zona has been playing in local bars for years, but in Beaumont, Texas.... not Nashville, TN.
I am very impressed with his new CD and his original song "Two Hearts" is my absolute favorite. Zona reminds me of how country music use to be and how it should be.

Strunz and Farah Have Done It Again!.......2006-02-13

What a gem of an album this is. It is hard to compare to Americas and Heat of the Sun, as they are probably Strunz and Farah's best work, but Zona Torrida delivers also. I am happy to have it in my growing collection of Flamenco and Latin guitar music. If you are new to Strunz and Farah and only want to buy one or two albums, get Americas and/or Heat of the Sun. If you know you like the artists then feel free to get this, Rio De Colores, Wild Muse, and Stringweave in addition to Americas and Heat of the Sun if you don't already own them. Get all of the aforementioned titles and you will have a very strong collection of music from this genre and plenty of music to listen to that will not disappoint. Enjoy!

incredible musicianship!!!.......2006-02-04

I have several of S&F albums, and although their recent work (a couple of albums before this one) sound very much alike, this one sounds different and more revitalized with both new rythms and styles.

It's a gem from beginning to end and transmit a great sense of joy, but it makes you also feel you're part of the different exotic cultures the different rythms used on this album come from, you feel like a world citizen through music.

Strunz and Farah's Zona Torrida.......2004-11-01

Zona Torrida is packed full of strong thematic material, colourful harmonies,imaginative percussion arrangements and exemplary ensemble work. One of many facets of Strunz and Farah's guitar playing is harmonised alternate-picked passages,at an incredibly fast speed, with razor sharp accuracy which abounds in this cd. However, the pieces are also well structured, proving that not only do Strunz and Farah solo brilliantly, but they also compose and arrange expertly too. The overall style is an imaginative fusion of latin American, Spanish, jazz, Middle Eastern, and Eastern Europe,expressed by the unmistakable sound of Strunz and Farah. My guitar students have been very impressed with Zona Torrida and I am sure that you will be too. Congratulation guys, you have done it again! This is music for head and heart.

Estupendo conscious hip-hop!.......2006-04-11

Rough Guide's "Urban Latino" is a true gift. At turns joyful, indignant, subversive and easy to dance to, this CD offers something for any music fan, whether you speak Spanish or not. I'm currently studying Spanish, and the thoughtful lyrics of these songs are inspiring me to discover the meaning of every word I hear. The songs by Colombia's Zona Marginal and Argentina's Actitud Maria Marta are particularly powerful, and I'll be purchasing their CDs. I found Zona Marginal's CD for sale at the website of an organization called "Justice for Colombia." From interviews with the group, I learned that Zona's members have received death threats from Colombia's paramilitaries for their lyrics. Fortunately, they are receiving support from concerned people around the world, and Amnesty International sponsored Zona's tour of England.

The all-female hip-hop trio Actitud Maria Marta has a similarly potent political message that urges "their fellow Latin Americans to wake up to their collective cultural identity and fight for libertad and the right to rap" (from the liner notes). A hot merengue album indeed. On this album "Zona Roja" really displayed why they're made out of "PURA CANDELA" "PURE FIRE" It does'nt matter wheather it's a fast rapid song, or a slow romantic song. Every song on this album is made for people to be in the dancing mood. There were no mistakes on the making of this album, everything is on point. Wheather if it's too chill at home, go driving around, or to be at a party, you can't go wrong with this. So just get the "RUMBA" started WITH "Zona Roja"!!!
