damn good.......2005-05-31
Where has this been all my life? Its a stunning mix of ambient, techno and electronica. I stumbled upon this from one of those "best 20 cd's" personal lists that someone had up here. If you are into any kind of electronic/trance/ambient like The Orb, Aphex Twin etc, check this out. Its a tough cd to describe try downloading a track or two and check it out...this is top shelf material...
Sounds that Cascade through your mind..........2002-06-09
this ep collection of various versions of The Future Sound of London's amazing soundscape known as Cascade is, simply put: unbelievable. ambient backdrops...driving beats...swimming, pulsating synth...eerie trance-like soundscapes...there is literally sound all around...enveloping you. the music will, without a doubt, take you somewhere very far away. i can't put it into words too well...it's not easy...one has to listen to this 6 song ep to really understand and appreciate what's going on here.
Cascade is wonderful...it is an amazing feast for your auditory senses...it will carry you somewhere every time. what a treat. thank you Future Sound of London!!!
peace,
cic
Moves energies you didn't know you had.......1999-12-25
This album is awsome. No matter what mood I'm in it will take me somewhere I want to be. It's got some of the best mixes of feelings in it ever. It makes me want to just be. And when something does that for me, I'm grateful beyond words.
a stunning, landmark recording. unbelievable!.......1999-10-13
I can recall hearing the last 20 minutes of this on CBC's Brave New Waves years ago and being totally blown away. After finally figuring out what it was, years later, I can honestly say that "Cascade" is essential listening for anyone interested in ambient/techno/tribal/ethereal (did I miss any category?) music. Is there anything that can compare to "Cascade"? If there is, I love to hear it.
An entrance into the ambient world.......1999-07-22
This was the single album that launched me into the world of techno/ambient music. My friend was playing the CD in his car and I told him to stop as soon as possible at the nearest place where I could get my own copy. The album is never tiresome and will always have immense reply value. Truly transcending hymn.

twilight sounds.......2006-06-11
Cascade is probably Peter Murphy's most solid solo effort. these songs effortlessly combine his hauntingly beautiful voice with a strong dreamy rock asthetic that reveals delicious bits of melody and just a slight tinge of that Turkish middle eastern feel that Mr. Murphy embraces. "I'll Fall On Your Knife" stands as one of his greatest songs in his catalogue. worth seeking out.
Peter Murphy's very best.......2006-06-10
This album stands as a materpiece of melodic rock. It's dark tones and passionate vocals meld perfectly. Michael Brook's Infinite Guitar provides a wonderful overtone. The first seven songs are all fantastic. The only weakness for me is Huuvola. My one regret with Cascade is that Peter didn't keep more of its style for a few more albums.
Good but not great.......2006-04-27
Peter Murphy is one of those artists with whom you almost cannot go wrong. However, there's his good stuff and then there's his best work. "Cascade" is part of his good stuff. While it has several good moments and an unfortettable track ("Huuvola"), it's nowhere near the level of perfection he accomplished with "Deep", his best album to date.
Stars That Leave No Trail.......2006-03-30
While "Deep" remains (arguably) the highlight of Peter Murphy's solo career, "Cascade" bears comparison with his best work. Released in 1995, it was Murphy's fifth solo release after leaving the 80's goth/post-punk band Bauhaus, and it would be his last album of new material until 2002's "Dust." While it isn't strikingly different from his first four solo efforts ("Should the World Fail to Fall Apart," "Blind Hysteria," "Deep," and "Holy Smoke"), it does reveal a unique depth and maturity if given a chance. Like his poetically symbolic and elusive lyrics, Murphy's music requires repeated exposure before it opens up fully for the listener. On "Cascade," that sound is heavier than usual and grounded by a bassier chug, and there are more of the gothic overtones of his early days. Give a listen to the majestic "Gliding Like A Whale," "The Scarlet Thing In You" (probably the album's most accessible track), the darkly haunting "Subway," or what is for me the highlight of the album, "Wild Birds Flock to Me." It's not surprising that Murphy tapped this song for the title of his 2000 singles collection, as the track waves and crests with all the magic implied by the title.
Its Good, But Not Great........2006-01-14
After all these years, I never tire of listening to "Fall With Your Knife" - the best and most enduring track from Cascade. It is an emotionally intense song that showcases Peter's unique, powerful voice. Other good but less memorable tracks include "Disappearing" and "Scarlet Thing in You". Overall the album is good - maybe very good, but not great. Nevertheless, if you are a Murphy fan, it must be part of your collection.

Wash Away Your Weekday Woes.......2001-09-13
It is truly shameful considering the amount of music that is in the market place that there is only one Laraaji. Each note is musical lather to my soiled ears. In the morning, brew your coffee, open your windows and prepare yourself for the velvet kiss from Laraaji's lips. Think about it... Brian (and Roger) Eno have assisted and admired his work for several years now, and they are two artists that lend their abilities to few undeserving people. If you desire to stay away from New-Aged cheese, non-musical drips and fiddel fodder, this will be for you. Other items to check out are Brian Eno's Ambient Series (and he even has one with Laraaji), Roger Eno's Voices and Between Tides, Harold Budd's Lovely Thunder and Cascade.
Now about this release Cascade. A rare slice of old haunting vocals, a familiar pinch of new rhythms and glorious harmonics. Open the velvet door, open your senses to ear perking, toe tingling massage!

This CD breathes new life into an already rich vocal tradition of Armenian music by weaving folk, pop and jazz elements into an elegant tapestry of sound.

Customer Reviews:
Beautiful.......2003-11-21
I really enjoyed Cascade's self-titled 1st album, and so waited what seemed forever for their second. This set of recordings is more masterful and more beautiful than their first. Each track has a beauty of its own. Ohanna's voice is full of energy. She makes you want to dance! The original music, lyrics and vocal arrangements-- all by the trio themselves -- add to the uniqueness of this album. It's a treat to listen to.

Customer Reviews:
Some great moments.......2006-03-12
Cascade is an album of mostly mid-tempo ballads. Mirror To My Woman's Mind and Subway are pleasant enough but they don't really stick in the mind. Gliding Like A Whale has a stronger melody and evocative synthesizer where the vocals take interesting twists and turns to lift the track above the average.
The chugging beat and prominent guitar of Disappearing gives this song more of a rock feel, while Mercy Rain is a mellow ballad and I'll Fall With Your Knife is a meandering number with atmospheric instrumentation. The tempo picks up for The Scarlet Thing In You, a passionate love song with great imagery that almost, but not quite merits a place amongst his great songs.
Wild Birds Flock To Me has a complex arrangement and interesting tempo changes, but Huuvola is the real gem of this album. At last his divine voice gets to shine on a great melody line and a delicious blend of instruments for an eerie, transcendent feel. The title track has a spoken vocal introduction and a weird instrumental mix to make it quite an experimental and unusual arrangement.
I am a great fan of Murphy's but Cascade doesn't leave a strong impression. The problem might be the absence of memorable tunes and catchy hooks. With the exception of Huuvola, none of the tracks here match his greatest songs like Indigo Eyes, Canvas Beauty or Time Has Nothing To Do With It.

Customer Reviews:
Always right!.......2007-01-08
I love this CD! I've had it for a while now and it is always the right music, no matter how I'm feeling. It's smooth and comforting, but also uplifting. I think this is a great CD if you're looking for this kind of music. Awesome!
just love it.......2006-12-14
I love Joe's album, Heartfelt and listen to it all the time; day, night, and any time of year! It's peaceful, relaxing and inspirational. I've given this album to many friends, and they all love it too.
Who Knew a Piano Could Explain?.......2006-12-01
I'm not a huge piano-only fan. The piano has its place in an orchestra or with a band but rarely does it stir enough emotion on its own.
That's what I used to think.
After listening to Mr. Yamada's CD (I absolutely loved "Prelude to Maltese Rain") I finally realized that the player does indeed make all the difference in the world.
I'm ready for the next CD - when can we expect it?
A soundtrack for romance.......2006-11-29
OK guys, if you're looking for that perfect background music to get her in that romantic mood, this is it. It's kind of like having your own soundtrack for romance. Turn the lights down, make that special dinner, and set a candlelit table for two with Joe playing in the background. You get the feeling like he's playing it just for you, almost like he's your own private pianist. And there's a sense of honest, open emotion in Joe's playing, that easy warmth that you feel when you're with an old friend. I've seen Joe play live, and Heartfelt captures the soul of a skilled performer, with melodies that are powerful, beautiful, and I daresay even catchy. So uncork a bottle of wine with that special somebody, and let Joe set the mood for a little romance...
Incredible songs, perfect for relaxation!.......2006-11-29
I got this disc on a recommendation - what an amazing collection of songs! I don't have to skip around through the tracks because they're all great. I just play it front to back over and over again! From the opening track, "A Silent Tear," to "Remember When," and "Blind Heart," every song is beautiful. If you're looking for an evening of curling up, reading a book with a glass of wine and music playing - this is the perfect CD!
