Wayne truely is the best rapper alive he can take anyones beats and make them his own..... Like he once said "i can say don't rhyme and it rhyme" he's right..... this cd is dope and i would suggest it to anyone who likes Lil Wayne

5 out of 5 stars Very Impressive.......2007-05-24

Lil Wayne Is in my opinion, the king of mixtapes right now. He is avereging about 1 mixtape every three months. This Mixtape is Awesome. Alot of his other mixtapes have people from his record label, and you only get to hear Weezy on one of the verses. However, on this mixtape he does it mainly by himself. This is more like a full cd or two. Great punchlines, I had to rewind a couple of times because I was dumb founded. Definitely worth the buy. Cant wait for his next mixtape!

Amazon.com's Best of 2000

The foursome come roaring out of the blocks with their latest collection. The album's first single, "Beautiful Day," raced to the No. 1 slot on the U.K. singles charts and received a similar rapturous reception stateside. From its shimmering preamble to its sweeping, infectious chorus, it perfectly stakes out the middle ground between the anthemic U2 of the '80s and the more grounded group of the '90s. With Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno sharing production chores again after having taken a break with Pop, the U2 team enters the new millennium with their lineup--and mission--intact. --Steven Stolder

Amazon.com essential recording

If U2 hadn't used the title already, "A Sort of Homecoming" might have suited this, their 10th studio album. All That You Can't Leave Behind sounds, at various points, like any or all of U2's previous albums, as if the band is sending postcards back from a protracted ramble through previously conquered territories. The euphoric opening track, "Beautiful Day," reintroduces Edge's signature delay-laden guitar, which has been pretty much absent since The Unforgettable Fire. Elsewhere, the gospel stylings of Rattle and Hum resurface on "Stuck in a Moment," and the deranged, Prodigy-influenced dance textures that characterized 1997's Pop crop up on "Elevation." None of which suggest that this commendably restless bunch is running out of ideas. Having spent the '90s making three of the most bizarre and adventurous albums ever delivered by a stadium-rock band (the consecutive masterpieces Achtung Baby, Zooropa, and Pop), it's as if they're now trying to figure out what is the one particular thing they've always done best. Based on the evidence presented here, their forte remains a facility for making the epic statement alongside Bono's increasing lyrical intimacy: "Walk On" and "Peace on Earth" are two of the best things he's ever written or sung. All That You Can't Leave Behind confirms that U2's laurels are still making them itch. --Andrew Mueller

5 out of 5 stars U2 For You If For U2 You Are True.......2007-03-27

This won't be one of my typical long reviews. I will simply say that I started buying U2 when they 1st came out with what I call protest songs. I haven't stopped. To me they are the band of the 80s and 90s and even into the 21st. century. I own every cd that U2 ever brought out. I will always buy U2 as long as it consists of Bono, The Edge, Clayton and Mullins Jr. I don't even have to think about it....their music is my music and I will buy them.....this cd is a U2 cd and reason enough for me to buy it...if you love U2 you will buy them all or you are not a true U2 fan...the preceeding was a Joliet Jayke the Bluze Brother Editorial opinion and only reflects my opinion..nuff said.

5 out of 5 stars I just love this cd.......2007-03-25

This cd is one of the top three in U2 catalogue, the other two would be "The joshua Tree" and "Atchung Baby". I can listen to this one many times each week and never get tired of. This is what we can call "A desert Island cd" if you see what I mean. Eleven great songs, the ballads are really good, "Stuck in a moment you can't get out of", "Kite", "In a little while" are incredible, lot of emotion and the voice of Bono is awesome. This band gets better with age.

5 out of 5 stars All That You Can't Leave Behind unheard.......2007-03-09

This is one of the best album of U2. As an album it is number 3 after Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby. It is one of those records you better not stop at all. Not only for fans.

5 out of 5 stars THEIR BEST; EVEN BETTER THAN JOSHUA TREE!.......2006-12-25

Six years now since the release, and this magnificent grouping of songs is still fresh! Beyond the obvious hits "Beautiful Day", "Elevation", and "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of", take a new listen to "In a Little While", "When I Look at the World", and "Grace." Bono's voice never better on these cuts. I never tire of this album!!

5 out of 5 stars Released before 9/11....Really?.......2006-12-06

I have to say that one of the most remarkable things about this CD has nothing to do with its engineering and songwriting. What has always struck me about this CD is that it became such a tribute album to the events of September 11th, but it was released almost a year earlier. The lyrics are uplifting and eerily fore-shadowing all at once. For example:

-As some reviewers have noted "Walk On" has become an anthem to rising above the ashes and carrying on in the face adversity.

-"Beautiful Day" is a tribute to wonderful day that is laid out before us.

-"New York" is an ode to a city that is collectively stronger than anyone thought possible.

-Lastly, "Peace on Earth" has got to be one of the most fore-telling songs in the past twenty years. "They're reading names out over the radio/All the folks the rest of us won't get to know/Sean and Julia, Gaerth, Ann and Breda/Their lives are bigger than any big idea." It's scary, but I think U2 kind of knew where we, as a society were headed.

It's been a point of discussion between my wife and I, becuase she insists that there is no way these songs could have been written before 9/11. But they were and it makes it all the more remarkable.

Product Description

GENERAL FEATURES: Beethoven's Wig Sing Along Symphonies are zany stick-in-your-head lyrics set to the greatest hits of classical music. Filled with fact and fancy about the world's most notable composers and their masterpieces, each Sing Along Symphony opens the door to "serious music" in a way that's fun. As a bonus, the orchestral performance of each classical piece is included without lyrics. Educational entertainment for all ages.

Amazon.com

Inspired and wildly imaginative, Beethoven's Wig is one of the best introductions to classical music you could give to your children. Featuring snippets of 11 classical music staples--Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Haydn, et al.--the disc and its creators, Richard Perlmutter and friends, pour on the silly lyrics the first time around to familiarize young ears to the old masters. Then in the last half of the record, the orchestra plays the same "serious" music pieces instrumentally. You might cheerfully recall Alan Sherman's popular spoofs of old classical works in Wig and you'll again chuckle at pieces like "Drip, Drip, Drip," which adapts Delibes's "Pizzicato from Sylvia." You'll also marvel at the expertise throughout the CD, with all the pieces well played yet thoroughly fun. Beethoven's Wig is an orchestral treasure with a sense of humor as old or as new as its listeners (and the fun questions that run throughout the CD's liner notes are almost as entertaining as the zany musical interludes). Highly recommended. --Martin Keller

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT CD to introduce kids (& adults) to classical music!.......2007-07-08

This CD is a must for every child. It is so important for children to appreciate the great composers. This CD is a wonderful introduction and a fun way for children to learn the facts and names to go along with the tunes. The selection of pieces for this disk are also wonderful. It is nice that the songs are also to where you can listen to them without the lyrics. My children love it and my husband loves to hear just the music (& he is more of a oldies rock n roll & country music man).

5 out of 5 stars Tchaikovsky is my favorite composer, declares my [...]........2007-06-15

We originally received Beethoven's wig from a friend. My two year old and eight year old loved it so much that I had to buy #2 from www.amazon.com and got the third one used on www.ebay.com. Now I have them all on a playlist on my Ipod, and we play them non-stop in the car, and at home. (putting all three on my Ipod makes it more bearable since it is not always the same songs). Too bad www.Itunes.com hasn't caught on yet.

The best part was when my daughter told her Music Camp teacher, " Tchaikovsky is my favorite composer!" I thought she was going to faint.

5 out of 5 stars Truly fun AND educational.......2007-06-01

We play this probably once a day in our home and my kids (one is almost 5, and 2 yr old twins) all enjoy it! Definitely appealing to kids, but also not offensive to the adult ear. I even find myself humming the words when I hear these classical pieces at other times of the day. I recommend for any household with small kids - it introduces classical music in a very fun, upbeat way.

5 out of 5 stars My kids' hands-down favorite classical CD.......2007-05-18

My kids take piano lessons, and I was hoping that listening to classical music would help them enjoy their lessons a bit more, since many of their lesson pieces are variations of classical melodies, and, for whatever reason, they don't naturally enjoy classical music.

I had heard rave reviews about the Classical Kids series of CDs (where a story is set to a composer's music), and, while my children enjoyed them, they didn't really want to hear the stories repeatedly, so the melodies didn't stick.

We got this CD from the library, and the minute they heard the first line of this CD, they were in hysterics. They just LOVED the silly lyrics, and they've listened to the CD repeatedly. They begged me to buy our own copy and to get the 2nd and 3rd CDs in this series. They ask questions about the music and the lyrics, trying to figure out what play on words and reality the creator of the CD was thinking about. They remember the music and who composed it. And they are much more interested in playing the pieces they know on the piano!

So, for our purposes, this CD has been perfect.

And yes, I put my money where my mouth is and purchased all three CDs in this set :) This one is still our favorite.

5 out of 5 stars Grandson loves!.......2007-05-12

Because I don't live close to my almost 4 year old grandson, I had this shipped to him. My son (his father) says that he asks to hear this all the time. They have to take it in the car wherever they go and listen. Even though the words are silly, I am pleased to know that as he grows older, he will recognize classical music (of course he may always sing the silly words!).

Songwriters Walter Becker and Donald Fagen launched Steely Dan with a seductive, poker-faced 1972 debut as smoothly accessible in its music as it was elusive in its thematic concerns. The opening "Do It Again" snagged swift commercial success as one of the most mysterious pop hits in history, a sultry rock cha-cha that chronicled a series of harrowing catastrophes far removed from the reheated love songs and pro forma countercultural rebellion of the day. Though the core band boasted two formidable guitarists, Jeff Baxter and Denny Dias, it was the bloom of Fagen's keyboards and his reedy, smart-ass vocals that carried Thrill light years beyond modal, blues-based rock. That said, an enduring highlight remains the furious six-string fantasia of "Reelin' in the Years," spiked by Elliot Randall's downright historic solos, at once dour and giddy in its indictment of a poser, while "Dirty Work" (featuring short-lived, nominal lead singer David Palmer) offers a decidedly adult vignette of adultery. There isn't a weak track here, astonishing, considering how much growth future Dan albums would display. --Sam Sutherland

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Sure You Can: See "Brooklyn".......2007-07-09

I never need to hear "Reelin' In Years" or "Do It Again" again (great as they are they are), but the rest of this debut by The Dan has thankfully not been so overexposed. Every song is a winner (if not a thrill), particularly "Brooklyn" (a paean to a prostitute with soulful vocals by David Palmer) and "Dirty Work" (quite the opposite). Drummer Jim Hodder takes the vocals for "Midnight Cruiser" and if he's a bit wobbly in the verses, the singalong chorus makes up for it. David Palmer is elsewhere serviceable and smooth - - but the two biggies both have Mr. Fagan taking over, of course. The rotating vocals help to give a more "band-oriented" feel to the album, unlike some of the later more opaque, strictly-in-the-studio releases. Steely Dan is one of those bands who remain outside of their time; this could be a brand new album and not one released way back in '72. It's still remarkable - - the band's least oblique release in an amazing catalogue.

5 out of 5 stars my favorite steely dan album........2007-03-26

despite spending the bulk of my teen years in the 70's, i did not get around to steely dan albums until the 90's. too bad so much time was lost. life is definitely a bit better with their recordings as a part of it. "can't buy a thrill" is my favorite piece of work by these incredible musicians. the wonderous studio craftsmanship that they display on all of their albums, is here matched with their strongest set of songs. "do it again," "dirty work," "midnight cruiser," "reelin' in the years," "brooklyn," and "change of the guard," are steely dan as the top of their form. the whole thing, in fact, is great. a classic i would suggest you not miss.

5 out of 5 stars Meet Steely Dan .......2007-03-11

The Dan had done some minor recording work, including the soundtrack to the obscure Richard Pryor vehicle " You Gotta Walk It Like You Talk It", but " Thrill" was the first album to arrive in store bins across America. Two hits were spawned; " Do It Again" and " Reelin' in the Years" fit well into the FM airwaves, a medium still looking for definition. Steely Dan would quickly prove they were no one trick pony. Not even the debut CD can be fully considered without the sum of the work.

Each song is a carefully crafted stage play with a bizarre main character. Some lyrics are more direct than others, but a reference can be gleaned from every track. As important is the musicianship, a constant among the Dan canon. While session players came and went, Becker and Fagen established a standard of playing that would never diminish. In fact, it got more and more sophisticated.

Get the first outing. Each CD has a personality of its own, but the first try is always the most poignant ( in their case, esoteric).

5 out of 5 stars Can't Buy a Thrill.......2007-01-31

Folks, DJ's are sampling/mixing "Do it Again" in 2007! I hear it every night on KBIG 104.3 (Los Angeles) on their mix-downs late night (Monday thru Friday). The fact that it has been remastered is to everyone's benefit. This is rock-and-roll?? This came out in 1972?? Steely Dan just rocks! Period! Get your copy and see what we've all been missing! Mssrs. Fagen and Becker are truly "two of a kind." Five stars!

5 out of 5 stars My Power Anthem Review.......2007-06-12

This is a great cd. I have to say, I love all of the songs on it. They are wonderful songs to walk (exercise) with; sometimes I find myself dancing.

4 out of 5 stars I Can Only Imagine.......2007-03-26

I love this album. It's great to have on in the background while you're pottering around the house 'cause it's 'easy-listening'. Of course, when it comes to my favourite Mercy Me song I blare the sound!

1 out of 5 stars I Can Only Imagine.......2007-01-16

I was very disapointed with the sound and the voices singing on this cd. I ordered it because I heard the song I Can Only Imagine and it was wonderful, however thie singing on this cd seems to be out of tone, sounds like amatures singing and I hate it. I do not like the entire cd. how sad as I spent good money thinking I was getting a quility of good singers.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!.......2007-01-09

I bought this for the title song, but it's always great to have this kind of CD with favorite songs. Well arranged and a good value for the money.

Robert Cray says that Buddy Guy's guitar solos sound like laughter from space, but they can also peal like the cries of lost souls attempting to cross the River Styx. If these 47 songs on three CDs plus a DVD boasting a new 75-minute documentary and six performances from the Montreux Jazz Festival prove anything, it's that Guy is one of the most dynamic, diverse, expressionistic, and emotional guitarists--in any genre. The set neatly examines the 70-year-old Chicago blues legend's half-century career, starting with a ragged but soulful "The Way You Been Treating Me" cut in 1957 at a radio station in Guy's native Louisiana that finds him developing his searing, exploratory style. A year later, he's in Chicago working with tunesmith Willie Dixon, and the rest is history (chronicled in Anthony DeCurtis's excellent lines notes) that leads from the glory days of Chess Records to Guy's early breakout recordings for Vanguard to his modern-day mastery. The most recent recordings often find him working with acolytes: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Keb' Mo', Jonny Lang, Bonnie Raitt, Keith Richards, and John Mayer (who duets with Guy on the unreleased "I'd Rather Be Blind, Crippled & Crazy"). B.B. King, who along with Guitar Slim was Guy's most important early influence, also joins Clapton and Guy on a stirring acoustic version of John Lee Hooker's "Crawlin' Kingsnake."

This set makes the argument for Guy's ever-continuing growth as a musician--not only as a player whose frenzy, improvisational instincts, and tonal control keep stretching with age, but as a stylist who was unafraid to put aside his trademark electric approach in 2003 to make the acoustic Blues Singer (represented here by "Bad Life Blues" and the Hooker tune) and to embrace primal North Mississippi juke joint music with Sweet Tea, which lends this set a pair of Junior Kimbrough covers. Guy's sole artistic weakness is his songwriting. He's never been prolific, and even in the '60s his lyrics drew on well-established clichés. But, as these performances attest, his playing's never been less than daring--and his voice knows every nuance of heartache and joy. --Ted Drozdowski

This was a gift to a friend who learned to play the guitar at age 60 and really loves blues music. He was thrilled with this CD.

Buddy Guy is 70 years old and still plays like he is 20. This Box set is well wirth buying if you dig the blues. Buddy is one hell of a ax man that lives and breaths the blues. This is for the old and the new fans. I listen to Buddy and am always captivated by his playing. Buddy is Eric Claptons favorite player. Jam on America.

5 out of 5 stars Kudos to Legacy!!.......2007-05-15

Now this is what I am talking about!! A quality product that makes everyone happy: both for newbies and long time Buddy fans like me. If you are a Buddy Guy aficionado like me, you probably have already 85% of this material. So the question is: is it worth it? YES!!! Not only because they have included some outsanding never before released outtakes, but mainly because there is a great DVD included that alone makes your money worth. Legacy really went the extra mile to make a great DVD and not just a throwaway like they did with the SRV box. Plus the booklet includes some great photos. Get it, this box is a winner!!

5 out of 5 stars This Buddy Guy DVD is a Must!.......2007-04-16

This Boxed Set is an excellent overview of Buddy Guy's career. It is well presented and has a comprehensive song selection but the absolute highlight is the DVD. Like Albert King, early B.B. King and just about everyone else, material on these legends is scarce! The DVD contains eleven performances from different stages of Guy's career. The first two are from Montreux in 1974 with Junior Wells, Pinetop Perkins and Bill Wyman on Bass. This is a must because this set is not longer available in the States. Junior also plays his chromatic harp, in the style of Little Walter, on "Ten Years Ago" and they also do a slow version of Junior's "Hoodoo Man Blues" (a title, interestingly which came from a Louis Jordan tune). It is fantastic. Buddy plays through a solid state Japanese-made amp for the first time (they were the Montreux House Amps that year)and it has quite an unsual sound. It is similar to the one he had playing through the Leslie Speakers when his amp blew up while recording on Junior's original "Hoodoo Man" LP(1962). These two numbers remind me of seeing Buddy in NY in 1967 by himself (Jr and the Band didn't show up)he just carried on and played out the door of the Cafe Au GoGo with his long lead, just like in "Drownin' On Dry Land" in this set.

"Messin' with the Kid" and "Come On This House" are also gems from Montreux in 1978. On the first two tunes in 1974 they were essentially backing Muddy Waters (as they did in the 1950s) but here they are stars in their own right after the release of their early 1970s hit LP. It is great and features "Fast Fingers" Jimmy Dawkins on second Guitar (his only ever early video clip as far as I know! He is also featured on the recent Delmark release "Tail Dragger"). He plays a better solo on "Messin' With The Kid" than Buddy!

"Sweet Little Angel", a Robert Nighthawk hit and B.B. King tune recorded many times (B.B.'s most famous version: "Live At The Regal")has been done many times by Buddy too. This one is done at Montreux in 1992. I like his version on the "Real Deal" DVD with the SNL Band. This however, is also a strong version.

"Damn Right, I Got The Blues" is from Buddy's comeback period commencing in the early 1990s when there was a short Blues Revival period following the death of SRV. We are still at Montreux in 1998 and the band cooks for this performance. It is great.

"Drowning On Dry Land", "Tramp",and "Mustang Sally" are from Montreux again in 2002. It is important to note that these are NOT the performances issued last year with the Carlos Santana package. These are good, but in all honesty, the band on the Santana set is much better, for one thing the keyboardist from Otis Rush's band is magnificent. Buddy does the Buddy thing at the end and sings without a mike when it fails.

The final two performances are acoustic, something he has added to his shows since the middle 1990s. The performance of "What I'd Say", since Ray Charles has died, is particularly interesting. The solo acoustic "Louise McGhee" from 2004 closes the set.

The 75 minute documentary with this DVD is also a must to see. OK, most of it we have heard many times over the years on other releases, about going to Chicago (he remembers the day in September), and meeting Muddy Waters who fed him and so on. This is all well done and presented and you can watch this many times. The snippets of performances are what really shines here. "Red House" with Joe Satriani is cool and the clips of him (I think it's at Antones!!! In Dallas!) of "The Things I Used to Do" and others we wish they would release that whole set!!!!

Interesting final note: this DVD like so many Blues DVDs in the last 5 years or so (AFBF 3 Vols; Albert King in Sweden and more)was produced by Janie Hendrix and Experience Hendrix Productions. Janie Hendrix is not Jimi's daughter if you are interested. Jimi's father Al remarried and Janie was his stepdaughter from his second marriage.

5 out of 5 stars BUDDY GUY DVD MUST HAVE FOR ALL FANS.......2007-04-16

After watching the complete dvd with all the performance footage, both myself and my wife were in awe and we have seen Buddy three times. One of the shows he came right to us on one of his audience walks, jamming right in our faces! He was totally amazing, smiling all the time. Anyhow, the dvd made us reminice of the shows. The early footage with Junior Wells is good quality and really does justice to all the perfomances. I think the reason it is a good production is the fact that it is produced by Experience Hendrix (Jimi Hendrix's Estate business) and Eddie Kramer is the engineer on the whole production. Buddy tells some great stories during the interview. The cd's give a good overview of Buddy's career with some nice previously unreleased tracks. I would pay just for the DVD, so the bonus is the cd's!!

Barely out of high school when signed as the first act for Powered By Ramen's new Decaydance imprint, guitarist Ryan Ross and drummer Spencer Smith of Panic! at the Disco had previously cut their musical teeth in a local Las Vegas Blink 182 cover band. It's that familiar, contempo-punk-pop sensibility, bolstered by the amped-up emo-core ambitions of singer Brendan Urie (typified by the snarky gem "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage") that dominates the opening tracks of the album. It's a shrewd hook, one the band steadily expands -- sonically and lyrically -- thereafter. The nervous energy of "London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines" is set off by sonic embroidery that's sounds as intriguing as the vocoder shtick of "Nails For Breakfast..." does dated. Yet "Camisado" quickly shakes up Supertramp's prog-pomp with a double-shot of modern punk-pop smarts, an alchemy the band and producer Mint Squire performs with similarly inventive, genre-blurring ambition (complete with a quasi-Grand Guignol "Intermission" nearly worthy of Queen) on "Lying is the Most Fun..." and such standouts as "But Its Better If You Do" and the arch delight "Build God, Then We'll Talk." Too many young bands are content slaves to fashion; this one has forged a promising debut by shrewdly taking fashion hostage, then standing it firmly on its head. -- Jerry McCulley

Album Description

This Las Vegas band strives to create a unique sound by blending melody-driven rock with dance. This is a rock record you can dance to; that's fun and sincere at the same time. Produced by Matt Squire (Northstar, The Explosion, The Receiving End Of Sirens). Panic! At The Disco is the first band signed to Pete Wentz's (Fall Out Boy) Decaydance Records, a Fueled By Ramen imprint label. "...Imagine The Faint meets The Postal Service with all of the pop sensibilities of a Blink 182" - Peter Wentz. Touring with Fall Out Boy, The Starting Line, Motion City Soundtrack, and Boys Night Out this fall.

5 out of 5 stars Intelligent, humourous and self-aware - popular music at it's best........2007-06-23

This has to be one of my favourite albums of recent years.

These guys have taken a lot of unfair criticism for their style but they are very smart about what they do - they know what is popular while still retaining their own distinct sound.

I love that synthesizers are making a come back. The synthesis of rock and electronica is done perfectly - I just wish they had kept their demos for the album too. They are more fun than the album versions are are more electronically influenced.

Perhaps I'm biased because I am primarily a fan of electronic music, but I really do think these guys have created the perfect blend. They don't overdo the electronic elements so people who are not too keen on that kind of sound won't have to hear it for long.

Again, brilliant album. We can only hope the sophomore effort exceeds their debut.

4 out of 5 stars A Feaver you can't sweat out.......2007-06-15

"Let's get these teen hearts beating faster, faster!" Those are the chorus lines for one of Panic! at the Disco' s songs. They have gotten America's teens wanting more, quicker than most people thought possible.

Sounding really similar to the hit band Fall Out Boy, Panic! has become almost as famous. Even Pete Wentz, Fall Out Boy's bass player, didn't think they would make it big time, but Panic! exceeded expectations and made it far in the world of music.

Their first big hit, "I write sins not trageties" got everybody wanting more out of this new band. Another of their hits is "Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off".

Panic! has taken rock and made it darker and more emotional. Stories of love, dissapointment and death mixed in, to make one magnificent album.

The only thing that was dissapointing about this CD is that it only has thirteen songs and they're all just over three minutes long. That isn't a lot for the eighteen dollars paid for it.

There are only four people responsible for Panic!'s success. Those four people are Brendon Urie, Ryan Ross, Brent Wilson and Spencer Smith. These four talented musicians make up the muical phenomenon known as Panic! at the disco.

The more I listen to A Feaver You Can't Sweat Out, the more I love it. I always hear something new that I haven't heard before.

All in all, this album is extremly amazing musical experience that anybody will enjoy. "Will you dance to this beat and hold a lover close?"

5 out of 5 stars It's bouncy, it's danceable, it's catchy...I like it.......2007-05-12

I consider Panic! at the Disco my ultimate guilty pleasure. My friends would slam me for listening to these guys, but when I go home at night, and I pop this CD in, I don't care because it is fun to listen to. It's a lot better than a lot of other mainstream music out there these days.

Favorite songs: The Only Difference, Time to Dance, But It's Better if You Do, I Constantly Thank God for Esteban, and Build God, Then We'll Talk.

3 out of 5 stars An album I can't figure out.......2007-05-06

I'm not sure if it would be fair to classify Panic! At the Disco as an emo band because there seems to be more influences in their music; for example, an abundance of dominating keyboards here and there. Anyway, after hearing some talk about these high school buddies-turned-rock stars, I decided to see what their album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out had to offer.

This is another one of those albums that took a while to really get to the masses, considering it came out in 2005. But what the album has to offer is a whole lot of confusion AND comparison. For one thing, guitarist Ryan Ross wrote all the songs on the album, and when I looked at the lyrics I scratched my head as to what in God's name he's talking about. I mean, I even ask that when looking at the otherwise listenable singles "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" and "But It's Better If You Do".

Another thing is, well, sorry, but it's hard not to compare Panic to Fall Out Boy. Basically, reviewer Kathryn Jago took the words right out of my mouth, but I'll still throw in my two cents. First off, frontman Brendon Urie is a good vocalist and all, but he sounds a little too much like Patrick Stump. Second, you can sort of tell that Panic is signed to FOB bassist Pete Wentz's label because this album also is mostly made up of songs that not only have way-too-long titles, but the titles are never actually said in ANY of the songs. (That's not necessarily a bad thing, but considering how the album is structured, it doesn't exactly HELP matters either.) And while I understand that the techno interlude "Intermission" is just that, it's still pretty pointless.

Panic! At the Disco would be a lot better if they had more individuality, and if Ryan wrote much better material. At this point, if someone asked me for a short opinion on A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, I'd say, "Don't sweat it."

Anthony Rupert

5 out of 5 stars Refreshing and addicting.......2007-03-30

This album is a large variation from all other punk bands, other rock bands, emo bands. The reason for that is probably because Panic! blends all those genres and adds dance and a theatrical touch to their songs. A Fever You Can't Sweat Out could actually work as a musical in my opinion. I know I'd see it.

1. Introduction - It does set up the album really well, but...it's just an introduction. (No rating)

2. The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage - This song has everything in it. It has the acoustic part, the rocking part, the emo vocals, the dance feel, the bouncy punk tune, the lyrics that state who's telling the story throughout the album ("...I'm the narrator and this is just the prologue..."). Fantastic song. I raved to it in my room. I went over to my light-switch and starting turning it on and off while bobbing my head. Fun times. (10/10)

3. London Beckoned Songs About Money Written by Machines - Not really my favorite on the album, but that says more about the album than the song itself. Starts out rocking, ends in a little "weather forecast," which I liked. (8/10)

4. Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks - The best part in this song is when the song flips into this quiet part where Brendon Urie sings "...The hospice is a relaxing weekend getaway where you're a cut above all the rest...." Don't know why, but awesome part. Another song that isn't really my favorite. I guess it was just too electronically-driven. (8/10)

5. Camisado - Cool song. I liked it a lot. These vocals are the most emo Urie will get on the album. Again, I liked the quiet part of this song best: "...The IV and your hospital bed..." Danceable. This song puts things in perspective. You just need to listen to it. (10/10)

6. Time to Dance - Overrated, but awesome nonetheless. Love the vocals. To me, Camisado and this song seem like one song divided into two tracks. They sound the same in a lot of places, but there are just enough differences that save this song from sounding old. (9/10)

7. Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off - The only flaw with this song is the title. Don't know why it has to be so long, but it isn't my decision, so...whatever. The song is great. Maybe the best on the album. Lots of airplay hasn't ruined it. Quietly quick-paced verses, an energetic chorus and great lyrics. Doesn't get much better. (10/10)

8. Intermission - It may be just an intermission, but the best intermission ever. I like how it switched in the middle from the first part of the CD (the techno part) to the second (Vaudevillian, theatrical part) just like that. Awesome piano. (9/10)

9. But It's Better If You Do - Another song that's in the running for "Best Song on the Album." This is, by far, the most original. Very bouncy and...glamorous. When I hear this song, I can just imagine the band members driving around Las Vegas in a limo with their heads sticking out that little window on the top. With huge sunglasses too. Lots of flashing lights. (10/10)

10. I Write Sins Not Tragedies - Fun intro. Vocals too. I don't quite know what to say about this song, so I'll just leave it at...kickass. (10/10)

11. I Constantly Thank God For Esteban - Sort of Spanish theme, and really fun to sing to. By this point on the CD, Panic! just sounds like they're having fun with this album now. (9/10)

12. There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of It Yet - Whichever band member thought it was ingenious to give a 16-word title for a song sucks...but makes great music. This is a great song. You can sing (which is fun) to it and dance (which I don't typically 'cause I'm a dude) to it. Awesome vocals (again) and great explosive ending. This song reminds me of a 16th century banquet, with all those masks and stuff like Romeo and Juliet. (10/10)

13. Build God, Then We'll Talk - Had to grow on me a little, 'cause I was expecting a lot from this song, but it did grow on me, and now I love it. Great bouncy guitars. Didn't know you could do that with a guitar. I love the cellos and violins towards the climax in the song. Love the "...Raindrops on roses..." part. Very fun song to sing to. (10/10)

So all in all, this is a love-it or hate-it CD. That's the way it seems to be with everyone. It's because Panic! is so original that you are forced to take a stance on the CD. I'm obviously part of the "love-it" group. This is a vocally-driven CD. I've learned every word from Track 7 on. You'll be addicted to this soon. I was. And this is a very danceable CD, but if you're an insecure guy, I suggest you don't. I am very certain that I'm straight, so I'll dance to those irresistible ones.

But yes, buy it. And help the economy.

Not to be confused with the collection Songs Inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia, this album is Harry Gregson-Williams's instrumental score for the movie. Marking the composer's third collaboration with director Andrew Adamson (after both Shrek flicks), this score also is one of the more mature offerings from Gregson-Williams, best known for his work on family films. The music is lush and assured, if a bit predictable. Indeed, it fits squarely in the current style popular for big epics--even using (on a few tracks) the vocals of Lisbeth Scott, which fall halfway between those of Enya and the Cocteau Twins' Liz Fraser (both of whom, uncoincidentally, appeared on the Lords of the Rings soundtracks). The CD concludes with four songs, with Gregson-Williams cowriting Scott's "Where." On "Can't Take It In," Imogen Heap's vocal acrobatics eerily recall those of the Cranberries' Dolores O'Riordan, while Alanis Morissette's "Wunderkind" is an inspirational, almost girl-powerish track written from the point of view of the movie's Lucy. But the best of these songs is "Winter Light" by Tim Finn, four minutes of understated, piano-driven melancholia. Look for it tucked near the very end of the CD. Note that the soundtrack comes also as a two-CD special edition . The second disc is a DVD that includes galleries of film stills and concept art, a featurette about the recordings of the score and a making-of featurette. There's also a segment in which the (mostly) Christian bands involved in the Songs Inspired by... album talk about their involvement in that project. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars Sharing with Others.......2007-05-23

This movie was a big success at our home. We saw it at the local theaters and decided to buy it upon release. We also have purchased other copies to give to friends.

We look forward to the future movies of the other 5 books.

5 out of 5 stars Depth of quality.......2007-05-20

I enjoyed the soundtrack immensely, except for the last three songs which have vocals. This is much better than the movie. I just wish they would list the companies would list the musician's that performed the music.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant minds.......2007-03-14

This is one of the best soundtrack I've ever listened to.From the serene "Lucy Meets Mr.Tumnus"to the soaring theme found in many of the tracks,Harry-Greggson Williams does a masterful job at creating a magical Narnia.I listened to this nonstop when I first got it,and I still listen to it more than any other soundtrack.
The four(three really, because Winter Light is utterly detestable)songs at the end are reason enough to buy this CD."I Can't Take It In" is brilliant with Imogen Heap's incredible talent."Wunderkind" is so artful and expertly written,it has become one of my favorite songs.
So this soundtrack meets all the requirements for a great soundtrack-great theme, amazing creativity, and stellar songs.

4 out of 5 stars Piano, Vocal and Guitar Music from Narnia.......2007-03-10

This book has eight of the songs from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Some of the songs, such as Evacuating London and Father Christmas, include some fairly advanced musical notation. Evacuating London, Lucy Meets Mr. Tumnus, A Narnia Lullaby and Father Christmas do not include guitar notation. However, this is authentic Narnia music, as composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. The first eight pages consist of colored pictures from the movie. The only thing that would make this music book even better would be inclusion of The Battle, which we are still looking for.

At her most soulful, as on "Simple Things," the opening track of her Blue Note debut, Elisabeth Withers is a ringer for the great Gladys Knight: same deep-throated delivery, same pent-up emotion, same thrilling release. Tony-nominated for her work in Broadway's The Color Purple, she isn't quite as impressive when she lightens her delivery in the service of a sleeker, more contemporary sound. But working with the Europe-rooted producer Toby Gad, Withers shifts effortlessly among pop and dance styles, her gospel roots shining through. It Can Happen to Anyone, for which she co-wrote most of the tunes, includes a rendition of "Wind Beneath My Wings" (which Knight recorded) that cuts Bette Midler's treacly hit version. Withers trusts in the suppleness and power of her voice to avoid easy emotion. When she makes a joyous noise on tunes like "Get On Your Shoes," you feel her glow. --Lloyd Sachs

Album Description

Debut release from Tony Award nominee Elisabeth Withers. The Joliet, Illinois-born singer-songwriter wowed audiences as the seductive scene-stealer Shug Avery in Oprah Winfrey's Broadway mega-hit The Color Purple. It Can Happen To Anyone, which effortlessly goes from R&B, gospel, and pop to jazz and rock, represents a labor of love for the vocalist who has worked with the likes of Mary J. Blige, Brenda Russell, Cher, and the late, great Luther Vandross.

5 out of 5 stars Smoothjazz.com Review.......2007-05-18

She's beautiful. Her radiant looks remind me of a young Diahann Carroll. Her voice is clear, rich and powerful. She's a seasoned performer and has earned a Tony Award nomination for her role as Shug Avery in "The Color Purple." Elisabeth Withers is absolutely the real deal, and already a star. Now, she's headed for the higher realms on her Blue Note debut IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE. This should ignite the afterburner on her career as this is a hit album... mature, sophisticated R&B delivered with confidence, passion and emotion. Her performance on the first hit single, "Simple Things," and her gospel treatment of the classic "Wind Beneath My Wings" will give you goose bumps. Her insightful and socially conscious "The World Ain't Ready" will make you think. The seductive "Be with You" will stir you. Her saucy 'girls night out' romp with "Get Your Shoes On" will make you want to hit the town with your groove on and the sweet "Next To You" will make you smile. Let's face it, IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE will just make you feel good. So, do you get the picture here? Elisabeth Withers' debut release on the prestigious Blue Note recording label is a slam dunk, and will propel this Joliet, Illinois-born singer/songwriter to the superstar level of artists the likes of Natalie Cole, Patti LaBelle, Dionne Warwick, and Gladys Knight. Now that can't happen to just anyone, but rest assured, it will happen to Elisabeth Withers! ~SCOTT O'BRIEN

I saw Elisabeth perform in the Colour Purple and was impressed with her vocal talent as well as her acting ability. So when I heard 'Simple Things' on the radio and found out that that artist was the same Shug Avery from the above named play, there was no hesitation in making this purchase. I am happy to also state that I have no regrets. Her more uptempo 'Be with you" is another favourite of mine. It's nice to hear a new artist that does not fall into the category of wanting to sound like everyone else. I look forward to her future releases.

Elisabeth Wither's CD was soulful, inciteful and just plain fun to listen too. It is a uplifting colage of songs. The songtress makes you feel good. Good for her! I have turned a lot of friends and people on to her sound.

I saw this artist live. She played "Shug Avery" in the broadway musical "The Color Purple". She played that part well. I was very shocked to see that she released an album and I rushed to buy it. I'm glad I did. Skillful singer with a unique voice. I've enjoyed this album. I play it constantly.
