Setzer, Phantom and Rocker (and their fave producer, Dave Edmunds) reunite for a rocking and winning disc. "Elvis On Velvet" is a big-beat barn-burner, Randy Bachman's "Can't Go Back to Memphis" has a low-tech ZZ Top feel, and the period covers ("Mystery Train," "Please Don't Touch") will entice purists. --Jeff Bateman

5 out of 5 stars To die for!.......2004-06-10

Very good Stray Cats album. "Jade Idol" is Chris Isaak's soundalike song, "My Heart Is A Liar" is an outstanding acustic ballad," "Beautiful Blues" is very jazzy. Other titles are pure neo-rockabilly. Album was produced by Dave Edmunds again.

3 out of 5 stars This album is good, but depressing..........1999-10-09

This album was made shortly after the break-up of Brian and his Ex-wife Deanna. You can literally hear the depression in the songs on the album and some songs are obviously dedicated to Deanna and Their son Dakota. This is a sad one.

5 out of 5 stars The Stray Cats Strut Their Stuff.......1999-07-23

An excellent album by one of the most underrated groups in rock. This album has all of the traditional Stray Cats moods. They are fast-paced and fun on "Please Don't Touch" and "Crybaby". They are are searching for the past and giving it homage on tracks like "My Heart Is A Liar" and "Elvis On Velvet." And no one covers the oldies like the Stray Cats as shown on such classic remakes of "Sleepwalk" and "Mystery Train." A fantastic CD produced by an original Stray Cat himself, Dave Edmunds. This album is among the best work of one of the best Rock/Rockabilly bands to tear into the music industry.

5 out of 5 stars A real sleeper. I believe this to be the best of Stray Cats.......1999-06-09

This album is the best CD I own (and I own hundreds). It is a great blend of their trademark rockabilly sound, some heavy duty blues rock, and Brain Setzer's more recent jazzier swing sound.

To me, the best aspect to Brain Setzer and/or the Stray Cats, is that they don't tell you how to live your life; they just play good music and have a lot of fun. To me, the most important thing about any music, is that the artist truly enjoys what he/she is doing. On Choo Choo Hot Fish, there is no question that the boys are having fun, and there is no question that it shows in the quality of the music.

While Rock & Roll is generally somewhat devoid of really good lyrics, the songs "Lust N Luv" and "Beautiful Blues" show that Setzer has the ability to write some classics. His singing on "Beautiful Blues", for some reason, reminds me of Mel Torme, and believe me, that is not a slam, but rather, high praise.

Buy this CD, you will be more than pleasantly surprised.

5 out of 5 stars Cats Rock non Stop.......2005-01-07

I've been a Cats fan since '82 when I first heard them on AM radio. I stumbled on this album soon after it was released with zero fan fare; I've never heard a track on the radio. What a missed opportunity for the record company and expanding radio programming. This might be their best album - from "Elvis on Velvet" to an amazing version of "Mystery Train" that would have made the King proud. The instrumentals are dynamite. The sound is hard and true. Check it out and you'll have a hard time not playing these tracks again and again.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest album EVER.......2004-10-08

This is the greatest album they ever released. From "Elvis On Velvet" to "Beautiful Blues" and every other track on it, "Choo Choo Hot Fish" Rocks YOUR World all the way. I have personally worn out 2 copies so far and am looking to start on a third because no collection should ever be missing this album. Long live the Stray Cats! All hail King Setzer!! Brian Setzer is possibly the greatest musical genius of our time!

5 out of 5 stars ONE HOT FISH!!!.......2004-06-18

This album is one of the all time greatest rock-a-billy works ever! The Stray Cats are hard edged on this one, yet they don't even come close to loosing that sound that made them the giants of rock-n-roll that they are. No rock-n-roll collection is complete without this record.
