What fun! This soundtrack of the film adaptation of the Broadway musical overflows with glossy, ol' fashioned '60s-style pep. It won't win any awards for innovation, but it may well be one of the most feel-good releases of the year. While not quite as super-energetic as the original Broadway cast, the new crew ain't too shabby: Nikki Blonsky delivers as Tracy Turnblad and Zac Efron (High School Musical) makes for a devoted boyfriend, and the supporting cast gleefully embraces the show's silly-but-generous spirit. John Travolta (who gets to utter the particularly ironic line "it's been years since someone asked me to dance") goes drag as Tracy's mom, Edna, while Michelle Pfeiffer's slight stiffness is appropriate for her uptight character, especially on the cha-cha "(The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs." After Mama Morton in Chicago, Queen Latifah puts in another brassy turn as Motormouth Maybelle ("Big, Blonde and Beautiful," which is then reprised by Travolta and Pfeiffer). The show's authors, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, have written three new numbers for the movie: the rollicking (and first single) "Ladies' Choice," "New Girl in Town" and "Come So Far." In addition, the CD also includes two tracks that aren't in the film but were in the show: "Cooties," sung by Aimee Allen, and "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now," sung by all three Tracy Turnblads: Blonsky, Ricki Lake (from the source movie) and Marissa Jaret Winokur (from the original Broadway cast). --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Album Description
The Hairspray soundtrack will feature 17 songs from the film, including three original numbers that were created specifically for the film version of the hit Broadway musical - "Ladies' Choice," "New Girl In Town," and "Come So Far." Also featured on the soundtrack are the songs "Good Morning Baltimore," "Welcome to the `60s," "Nicest Kids In Town," and "You Can't Stop The Beat." The songs are performed by cast members John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow and Elijah Kelley among others.
The Hairspray soundtrack is produced by Marc Shaiman and features music by Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman. It features tracks mixed by Ed Cherney (Rolling Stones, Bette Midler) and Peter Mokran (Pussycat Dolls, Christina Aguilera).
Sixteen years after the release of the original film, New Line Cinema is bringing a feature film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of Hairspray to life. Featuring new and original material based on John Waters' 1988 cult classic about star-struck teenagers on a local Baltimore dance show, the comedy features a remarkable collection of talent including John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, Allison Janney, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Chicago), and director Adam Shankman (Bringing Down The House). The new screenplay for Hairspray was written by Leslie Dixon (Freaky Friday, Outrageous Fortune).

Feel Good Soundtrack to Feel Good Film.......2007-07-13
Saw a sneak preview last night of the film and it was fun! Did not have high expectations after seeing Hairspray on Broadway and again on a touring show but it was great. I like Nikki Blonsky's Tracy over Marissa Winokur's Tracy. This soundtrack as additional songs and sounds better than the orginal Broadway cast. Only wish Cooties was in the movie, hopefully it will be on the DVD version whenever. Glad it made it on the CD. See the movie, buy the soundtrack. John Travolta was OK as Edna, better than I expected but sometimes his voice reminded me of Mike Myers's Dr. Evil somehow. His dancing in "fat" costume was funny.
My FAVORITE cd!.......2007-07-13
I got this cd the day it came out! I got the last one! I put it in as soon as i got home, and now take it everywere in my cd player! If you like show, or dance music, by this! There are also VERY good dance songs on this!
The key songs to this cd are.......
1. You cant stop the beet.....A awsome dance song, my favorite!
2. Ladies choice.......I like to sing this one, it's very catchy!
3. Good morning boltamore......Just a fun song, nice beet!
4. Moma i'm a big girl now.....The chorus is very fun!
5. With out love......Clever writing, and a nice tune, i like it a lot!
Great Soundtrack, and it doesn't have to be the Broadway Cast.......2007-07-12
Most of these reviews go on about either this recording or the original Broadway Cast are better. Well I think they are missing the point. The Broadway Cast with Marissa Jaret Winokur and Harvey Fierstein was fantastic and special because it was the first time many of us heard most of these songs. It did a great job of transferring the vitality of the live production to the recording and is one of my favorites for that very reason, but the Motion Picture recording takes those same songs and tweaks them so that they work on the screen and give us something changed and just as wonderous. They are just different and I love them both. And isn't that the point of "Hairspray"? That we should allow people (and performers and possible soundtrack albums) to be different and still appreciate their special qualities and individuality?
Nikki Blonsky, Queen Latifah, Zac Efron, James Marsden and the rest of the cast do a spectacular job making a Motion Picture Soundtrack of the Musical "Hairspray" (I just wish John Travolta had more to sing and "yes" it would have been a blast to have heard this cast do "The Big Doll House", but I'm not sure I would have been willing to exchange it for "Come So Far (Got So Far To Go)"). The new songs and arrangements of the retained songs hit the same high quality as the Broadway recording achieved.
While I would have loved to have seen a video recording with the original cast, it just didn't happen (unless you YouTube it), but you cannot really complain about this cast and production team, because they really are all on the top of their games.
So quit your bitchin' and "Viva la difference!"
Hair-Hoppers Rejoice!!!.......2007-07-12
Yet again, John Waters' raucous love letter to Baltimore, big gals, and bouffants has reinvented itself marvelously. The film version of the Broadway version of the 1988 film is as much fun as any earlier incarnation, and the Soundtrack is a non-stop feel-good party that keeps the beat going. Newcomer Nikki Blonsky is as big a breakout star as Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls, although Hairspray's a much better film. John Travolta sounds adorable as Edna Turnblad, although he's no match for Harvey Fierstein. There are so many great danceable songs on the Hairspray soundtrack, you'll have to keep yourself from jumping up out of your seat (especially if you're driving!). The Nicest Kids in Town, Ladies Choice and You Can't Stop the Beat are especially great. Queen Latifah sounds amazing in her songs Big Blonde and Beautiful and the stirring I Know Where I've Been. The biggest surprise is sultry and smashing Michelle Pfeiffer tearing into Miss Baltimore Crabs. I could go on, but just know that you won't find a single dud song on the CD, particularly after you see the terrific movie! I'm sorry "Cooties" got cut from the film, but I love the dance version at the end of the CD.
Nearly As Good As The Original.......2007-07-12
There will probaby be nothing that completely beats the original cast recording of Hairspray in my heart. This recording, however, makes a brand new place in my heart, and although there are a few small bad spots, this is a uniformly excellent cast.
To start with, the cast is, for the most part, excellently chosen. Nicole Blonksy sets a new standard for the part of Tracy Turnblad, with her powerful, clear, emotional vocals. Equally, the rest of the cast keep up the standard of excellence their predecessors left for them. Of special mention are Michelle Pfiefer, who does an excellent turn as the rich, snobbish Velma Turnblad, and delivers a delightful "(The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs"; Christopher Walken, who shows us the same jazzy voice we saw briefly in CLICK; and Amanda Bynes. While she's no Kerry Butler, and her vocals on "Without Love" are a bit weak in a couple of places(supposedly the director told her to hold back on this song as her character was "just finding her voice") she proves that she does have a fairly powerful sultry voice. John Travolta, however, never quite escapes the shadow of Harvey Fierstien. His performance is interesting, and people will either hate him, or love him. The only time he really manages to escape Harvey's shadow is during "Welcome To The 60's" when he gets some fun ad-lib like stuff.
If you liked the music from the show, you'll probably like this, and if you hated it, you'll probably hate it. Many of the songs have been rearranged but all of the new arrangements are welcome. In particular, a saxaphone added to the poignant "I Know Where I Been" adds even more spine tingle to the song, and some extra instruments during the opening of "You're Timeless To Me" give it an old time big band feel. Of the three songs cut, "The Big Dollhouse" is probably the most sorely missed, and leaves one wondering why they changed to plot in a way that eliminated this song. "Cooties", while it is a dispensible song, was the only chance that the character of Amber (played by a wonderful Brittany Snow), and her new song "The New Girl In Town" features her alone in a total of three short lines and doesn't give Brittany Snow the chance she should have had to shine. The song itself is also somewhat blah in comparison with the rest of the score. The final cut song, "Mama I'm A Big Girl Now" is also missed, but it's absence fromt he movie is more than made up by it's presentation on this soundtrack. It's sung by all three women who've played Tracy, Ricki Lake, Marisa Janet Winkour, and Nicole Blonsky, and even contains a "little" suprise near the end for fans of the original broadway cast. There are two other new songs, and luckily neither of them is as dispensible as "New Girl...". "Ladies Choice" is a high energy 50's rock dance number sung by a very good Zac Efron, and "We Come So Far" is the requisite credits song, and a certifiable toe tapper that is every bit as good as the best songs from the main plot.
In the end, this shows, similar to "Dreamgirls" but not with quite the same success, how a musical can make a good transition to screen without having to keep the original actors. This makes a good companion to the original album, or a good introduction to the musical. Personally, I suggest you get both cast recordings, but if you can't here's a good bit of advice. If you're looking for a bit of a popier sound, go for this one, if you're looking for a bit more of a 50's sound, and Harvey Fierstien, go for the orignal cast. Either way, you'll get a souveneir of a fun, dazzling show.

Why tell this story? It's a good story, with better music!.......2007-03-11
There is nothing worse than a weak story linked together with weaker tunes. However, Once on this Island is operatic in its beauty, organic in its execution (not a note out of place!) and is bound together with a strong story, stronger performances, and some of the most upbeat and uplifting music I have ever heard. The music brings you to the Antilles and establishes the place of this island, with its symbitioc relationship with nature and its gods. And you will root for Ti Moune and her faith in her place in the world, and even though she doesn't get the guy, it could be argued that she gets something even better.
Give it a listen....
BROADWAY.......2006-05-14
My schools 8th grade play was Once On This Island and I loved it so i'm gonna buy this cd! you should too!
Very Authenic and Beautiful Work.......2006-04-25
The team of Flaherty and Ahrens truly blew me away with "Ragtime", and I didn't anything could come close to that power. While "Once On This Island" is nothing like "Ragtime" in terms of gandeur, it still is a wonderful work filled with some wonderful music. The ensemble on this recording sounds exactly as they should in my opinion, and they perfectly depict people on a magical island. The story is also one that I enjoyed in that it was very simple, yet had a great message. While the vocal work provided by the ensemble is great, it is LaChanze who truly makes this recording soar. Her voice is like that of a goddess, and she makes all of the emotions of Ti Moune come alive, especially in "Waiting For Life", which is this recording's star number.
It may not be big, bold, or grand, but "Once On This Island" is a magical recording of a magical little musical that proves to be quite effective. It's authenticty and clever musicality are what make it great.
Stunning and flawless Musical Fairy Tale .......2006-04-08
This musical represents all that is RIGHT with new musicals. Flaherty creates musical themes that recur throughout the piece and Ahrens' lyrics are brilliant. Through this musical, which I saw in NY 7 times, I was introduced to the talent of La Chanze and now as the lead in Color Purple, the world is getting another glimpse at what a great singer she is. Listening to her interpret a song is beautiful. For those who never had the privilege of seeing the show, we can all thank our stars that the production lives on forever in recording. Many other notable performers from Milton Craig Nealy (Rain) to Kecia Lewis Evans (Mama Will Provide) to Jerry Dixon (Some Girls)to Eric Riley (in every stand out number), this cast recording is worth every penny. I am on my 2nd copy and rapidly working toward my 3rd.

There is no shortage of Motley Crue hits collections out there, but this one just might be the definitive. All the essentials are on disc one, which is generously crammed with choice cuts from the Aqua Net years, before Vince Neil outgrew the spandex and Tommy Lee found his true calling in amateur porn--from the sleek glam rock of "Too Fast For Love" and strip-club anthem "Girls, Girls, Girls" to the runny mascara ballad "Without You" and comedy hocus-pocus of "Shout at the Devil." Having just barely survived the '80s, the band gets inexplicably serious on the second half of the collection, delving into such utterly forgettable noise as "Planet Boom" and "Generation Swine." But there's no reason to fret--the compilation is merely doing its job and succeeds brilliantly in tracing the rise and fall of a band whose legacy is turning out to be far greater than anyone ever imagined. -- Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
I'll hand it to them..........2007-01-12
I feel odd even WRITING this review--even odder than I did when I picked up this CD set.
In short, I never liked Motley Crue in their heyday. When I was in high school, cranking up the Cramps or the Flesheaters on my Walkman, a friend of mine praised the Crue, while I thought they stunk. MTV didn't help either, rotating "Home Sweet Home" endlessly (and unfortuantely all of the hair rock power ballads to follow). While my friend Frank praised _Shout at the Devil_ and denied that there had ever been a band called Brownsville Station and insisted that "Smokin' in the Boys' Room" was an original Crue, I scoffed at his inferior musical tastes.
So why the hell would I even bother LOOKING at this collection? To tell you the truth, the omens came threefold--first, I got into Brides of Destruction. I saw the video for S.T.F.U. on Headbangers' Ball and loved it. When I got it, I found out that the outfit was lead by Nikki Sixx, and though it didn't make me like the album any less, I'd still grimace a bit and say to myself, "This band has a member of the Crue in it."
Then, when I went to see _Evil Dead: The Musical_, "Kickstart My Heart" was played during the intermission. Listening, I realized that this was one Crue song that I didn't mind so much when Frank forced some Crue on the turntable. In fact, I kind of liked it.
Last, this CD set was basically for free at a sale I came across at a CD store. Enough said--I figured that I could find at least two or three tracks that I liked.
But in listening to this collection, I've come to realize that the Crue was a band that suffered for its desire for fame. They can no doubt rock - "Kickstart My Heart" remains one of my favorites, and "Live Wire" is a juicy one. But other times their songs felt very off-the-mark, sometimes starting with a good hook but falling off very quickly. "Toast of the Town" was like this, as well as "Hooligan's Holiday," and "Planet Boom" just plain fizzled out. Some songs suffer for trying to sound too pop, and they just come across as empty.
I don't think this set turned me into a Crue 'fan,' nor am I sure that it was supposed to, and possibly a Cruehead may think that this collection is just blast after blast of Crue par excellence, but I did come out of it highly pleased with some select tracks, but also kind of thinking that they were a band who had the wherewithall to strike up hook after hook but forwhatever reason fell flat a lot of the time. Rather than distinguish themselves as a singular band in rock mythology, I think they ended up forging themselves as the prominent name of a name brand of rock, for though they proved themselves to be the better of the whole hair-metal pop-rock genre, they never fully came together to do solid music.
But then again, they had the fame, money, booze and women, and I was just a raging gutter punk, so they may be able to say that the last laugh was theirs.
The Greatest Hair Metal Band of all Time.......2006-11-10
For 25 years they have been the biggest hair Metal band of all time, now here is a great complation of all their head banging tracks & power ballads from 1981- 2005 with tracks brand new on this CD, the CD features classics like "Girls, Girls, Girls", "Dr. Feelgood" "Looks that Kill" "Home Sweet Home" "Too Young to Fall in Love" & many more on 2 discs, listen to your Crue music b4 ya see em' with America's greatest Rock 'n' Roll band AEROSMITH!!!
Thats the way!.......2006-09-14
Red White and Crue(2005)
Motley Crue was a band with a history Vince Neil,Nikki Sixx,Tommy Lee and Mick Mars deserve a great compilation.and yet the other compilations like decade of decadence(1991)and Greatest hits(1998) didnt do this band justice. Now comes a compilation that all bands should take notice of for the next compilation.Red White and Crue captures all of Motley Crue goin trough classics 80`s album like Too fast for love passing by the self titled album Motley Crue (1994)and Quaternary(1994 also) with John Corabi to finally come to New Tatoo(2000).
All of Motley is covered and surprinsignly the John Corabi stuff too.3 New songs were made for this album sick love song(appearently Tommy didnt play on it),if i die tommorow(Samplw Plan wrote it)and Street fighting man(a Stones cover).and there is also an unreleased song `Black Widow`from the too fast for love era that was never released. All album singles are here Dr.Feelgood known to be the best Motley album was represented 5 times on here getting most songs for one album.
The cover is enssentially a woman and its collered red and white and black. On the back there is a picture of the band. The booklet was well made with Crue members current pictures separatly and one togheter. The mini-biography of the band was good for a booklet mentionning Vince Neil was fired and more.At the end you see who wrote the songs wich songs were singles and the album the songs were on and its release date.
What else hasnt been said already?Thats right nothin`fellow Crue heads.Great for a fan and a newcomer great songs great package and all highly recomended forget about the other compilations.5 stars!
What Gives.......2006-05-31
What gives with every one putting down yet another hits collection from the Crue? Yes I love the Crue and as of right now no longer own there stuff sadly all my cd's of them where stolen and were the original releases before the re issues. This CD would be a great place to start a Crue collection for it covers every thing from 1978 to 2001 including remixes never released the J C years and 3 new tracks. Yes there are alot of songs that are missing but this is by far the best hits released to date by any band and for the price what the hell you can't go wrong. And as a moble disc jocky I'd take a greatest hits cd any day and leave the full albums at home.
5 stars for CD 1...Big fat Goose Egg for CD 2.......2006-05-16
Sometimes you just want a good mix of the good stuff. Can I just but CD 1 for half the price because I don't think a frisbee that says Red, White & Crue CD2 is worth $8.

The first time I heard this album, and the previous Like A Ripple on a Pond, I was a freshman at Ohio State University, away from home and on my own for the first time in my life, and living around more white folks than I could imagine inhabited the planet. As only one of less than 1500 minority students of all races at a university that had over 40,000 students on its main campus, I felt as powerless and as insignificant as a gnat facing down a 100 watt light bulb. But then the word came down that Nikki Giovanni would be performing her poetry at the student union. I got to hear the sister speak live the words that I had repeated over and over as I listened to the albums on my record player. It was so good to be in a room full of folks like me who could speak every word of the poetry we had memorized as we played the albums over and over, time and again. The sister was church, a soulful experience. The gospel of Bernard Diggs and the New York Community Choir, the power of Sister Nikk's poetry made my small, cramped dorm space bearable. Nikki Giovanni, along with Dick Gregory, made the experience of being a speck of color in a sea of white bearable. Her poetry renewed my strength, gave me courage, and made me want to get past all the hurts and insults too often black students on all white campuses had to endure in those early days when we were the first vanguard of blacks that walked through the doors the civil rights movement had opened just a crack. And now years later I am a professor of English. I use the sister's peotry as often as I can, both Truth is on Its Way and Like a Ripple on a Pond. They are my most vibrant teaching tools as examples of free verse, imagery, rhyme and meter. I am happy to say that it is my younger white students who are the most swept up in the spirit after hearing How I Got Over or a Ripple on a Pond for the first time. I get the same reply, "Don't turn that off. I want to hear the whole CD." I am glad I can tell them where they can get it. Lord knows, a sister is tired of making copies.
One of the Greatest.......2004-01-25
This is one of the greatest albums of any genre. The poetry is outstanding and so is the gospel music. You will listen to this work over and over again.
TIMELESS.......2003-01-09
I first heard this in LP form at my grandmother's home when I was a child. Then, it was very popular in our family as well as our neighbors' families, especially Nikki being a Chicagoan. It was nice I thought, but I did not realize how important this work was until I grew into adulthood. The music is music for the soul and second to none. Superbly arranged and performed. The poetry is right on point, comforting, informative, and distressing but mostly comforting . Every American should have this work in their home and introduce it to their family and community.
One of the Greatest!.......2001-04-02
I bought this ALBUM 31 years ago, when I was 13. I memorized every poem on it. I played it so much, I wore the poor thing out. I was delighted when I came across the CD. I can't begin to express how this collection of poems touched my life. There is something for every mood and feeling. If you have never heard it, get it and get uplifted!

One of the last shows I went to see before leaving England........2007-05-20
Yep, this cd is just as I remember the show at the National. Very, very good & fast delivery.
Fantastic!!!.......2004-07-13
My husband and I saw this play in London last April and fell in love....Cole Porter's music is magic. The show was fantastic and I was so glad to be able to order this cast recording. Sally Ann Triplett and the entire cast are marvelous. It's "De-Lovely!"
The Perfect ANYTHING GOES!.......2004-05-07
This is the ultimative ANYTHING GOES-Score! The whole cast is outstanding (especially Sally-Ann Triplett and Anette McLaughlin)and they belt out their songs in a way like never before! But the Arrangements make this CD worth buying! The WHOLE Score is here (including a longer Overture, a differents Interlude and some new Arrangements like for example a little gospel-like part in Blow, Gabriel, Blow and a Tango/Chardasz-Section in Gypsy in Me). The Score is complete and refreshing. Even the Sailor's Chantey has got a new and interesting musical interlude.
Everybody who loves ANYTHING GOES has to buy this Soundtrack!
P.S.: I hope my English is well enough to understand...
Sally Ann Triplett and a dream cast!.......2003-12-04
This is the cast album to the acclaimed 2003 National Theatre revival of ANYTHING GOES, directed by Trevor Nunn and starring Sally Ann Triplett as Reno Sweeney.
Sally Ann Triplett is ideally cast as the singing chaunteuse-turned evangelist, with a cast including John Barrowman as Billy Crocker; Mary Stockley as Hope Harcourt; Simon Day as Sir Evelyn Oakleigh and Annette McLaughlin as Erma.
John Barrowman is fine as Billy. Barrowman replaced Howard McGillin in the long-running 1989 London revival (with Elaine Paige as Reno), and is fine in this newest revival, offering up a particularly fetching "All Through the Night" and "It's De-Lovely".
Annette McLaughlin (who's credits also include a stint as Velma in London's CHICAGO) is in fine voice as the scene-stealing gun moll Erma, and stops the show cold with her commanding "Buddie, Beware". Mary Stockley's silvery soprano is ideal for the role of Hope and she sings a plaintive "Goodbye, Little Dream, Goodbye".
A major difference between this recording and the previous 2 major cast albums (the '87 Broadway revival and the '89 London revival) is the inclusion of the full Overture, which is quite thrilling. This new ANYTHING GOES is a must-own.

Heartwarming.......2005-10-14
This young lady never ceases to amaze me with her incredible talent!
SO many moving & soul searching songs on this CD........Just simply incredible. You WILL be blessed!
Inspiring Music by Strong Vocalist.......2005-10-08
Nikki Leonti is a strong vocalist. Her voice is beautiful and her music inspiring. Every song comes out of her life, especially the six she co-wrote. Several musical styles are evident in this album including pop, hip-hop, and gospel. She blurs the line between these styles at times, creating a great musical effect. There are few contemporary Christian singers like her today. I certainly hope her musical career isn't over, especially since it's been four years since this CD was released. My only complaint is ten songs is too short for a CD, in my opinion. Two more would have been nice. Despite that, she has ten exceptional songs on this album. (4.5 stars). Now I'd like to see her branch out and bring more originality to her music because her music so far isn't a lot different than other female Christian artists of today. That certainly isn't bad, but something different and original would be awesome.
Another Great CD from Nikki.......2003-07-02
Released on 9/11, her self-titled CD sort of got drowned out by the events of the time. It was good to hear Nikki recording again, considering all the events in her own life, too. Hey, we all screw up at times, but Jesus forgives and forgets. All the songs are much more peppier the 2nd time around (and just as great too). My favorite is the 1st one "I Need You". "Letting Go" was a top hit on the CCM charts. I would recommend this CD if you like her CD "Shelter Me". Looking forward to her 3rd CD.
Nikki Leonti - one of Us.......2002-04-29
Although I'm not a teen, I love this kind of pop/hip hop music and I know that my 21 yr. old daughter loves it too. The message Nikki shares with her music is really right on. Her upbeat contemporary style is just what the new generation needs to not be turned off by "Christian" music. There are some slow ballads to balance out this CD which makes this one of my favorites. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves the pop/hip hop type of music that a lot of teens and young adults are into. Even some old folks, like me, dig on this music!
For Nikki Leonti, second chance is better than ever!.......2001-08-21
Self-titled CDs are typical of the first release from an artist. Why then this self-titled release from someone who has already experienced success with a number one and three top five singles on contemporary Christian radio?
"Nikki Leonti" is the second CD from a young lady who found immediate success with her first release, "Shelter Me," in 1998, at the age of 17. But, this new release is a new beginning for Leonti, who found out early that with success comes pitfalls - particularly for a Christian artist.
Leonti's success was followed by personal pain - she became pregnant in the fall of 1999 and experienced the embarrassment, humiliation, and difficult circumstances that unmarried young woman can face. As an advocate for Christian values, performing in front of thousands of people, it was devastating.
In the 20 months since that time, Leonti has journeyed through the humiliation, depression, and despair to profound understanding of the extent of God's love and forgiveness. "I thought I knew what God's love was," she said recently, "but it took this situation to show me that, up to that point, I had only scratched the surface."
This new release is a rebirth of sorts and it carries a message - of God's grace, forgiveness, and redemption. "My story is the album," Leonti reflects. "The songs that I wrote and the songs that I chose all have to do with what I've learned over the past year and a half."
Musically, this CD is solid. I encourage young people try it out. Brittany, Christina, et. al., of the secular music world have nothing on the music of this pretty and talented 20-year old. And, Leonti co-wrote six of the songs.
The title track, "I Need You," is a bouncy, energetic number about God being our only need. It could easily be the title track. The music and sound of "The Direction Of You" have [to me] a Beatle's feel - yes, I said the Beatles. Ok, so who under 50 hasn't been influenced by the lads from Liverpool?!
The vocals and message of "Love Lives On" is powerful. "Love Is All I Need" is as good as anything on Christian radio today.
"Letting Go" and "You Won't Leave" can compete musically with anything the aforementioned teen idols have to offer.
Give Nikki Leonti a listen. God has given her a second chance. That is something we all need along life's way. Great music! An inspiring story!

Great Voice.......2005-08-06
Nikki has such a great voice, and her songs are so thoughtful. They aren't just cute little tunes and repetitive lyrics. They have meat to them. I could listen to her sing forever. And, I'm not a teenager. Far from it. But, her fresh, sweet voice just helps me have peace. Keep it up sister!
Great CD for unique times!.......2003-07-02
I first heard the song "It'll Come to You" on a local Christian radio station while on a retreat in Irondale, Ala. I found out who the artist was and purchased her CD. All the songs on it are great; some, including the one mentioned, are potential secular mainstream hits(containing positive messages, which we all need post 9/11). Nikki, where have you gone? We need to hear more from you...
One of my FAVORITE CDs!.......2001-02-04
The first song I heard of hers was on the radio, it was the song It Will Come To You, it was a great song and I wondered who did it. When I got it for Christmas I was so excited that I had that song, but I was amazed when I found that I really liked every single song on the whole CD!! She has so many good songs and if you are sick of the overly roudy stuff, she doesn't have an extreamly loud set of songs. Nikki is a great example to teens and has a lot of great music and great lyrics! I very much reckomend this CD!
could've been more impressed.......2001-01-15
hi. I think that Nikki Leonte's album "Shelter me" is pretty good. I really like her song "Shoelaces" I just thought it was perfect for how most schools are getting to be. I mean almost everyone is trying to run with the crowd, when what they should be doing is getting closer to God. Over all the album would get about 3 and a half stars from me.
This CD is GREAT!.......2000-06-01
I love fast-paced songs, and "It'll Be Alright" and "It Will Come to You" are just that. I could listen to them for days! :) It's just a great album that will have you singing along with every song.
