Customer Reviews:
Their best in 20 years.......2007-07-13
The Scorpions have joined Iron Maiden as 2 of the old groups to put forth a great effort on their latest release. I haven't been this impressed with a Scorpions cd since the mid to late 80's. Klaus' voice sounds incredible, and the lyrics and music are top notch. There is a reason why people are still buying this music, because todays rock bands have forgotten about the guitar as a fundamental instrument. If you're a fan of the Scorpions, you won't be disappointed.
Be Cool! Just Buy It........2007-07-12
I want to rate these songs objectively;
Humanity Hour : 4.5/5
The Game of Life : 4/5
We Were Born To Fly : 5/5
The Future Never Dies : 3/5
You're Loving Me To Death : 4/5
3-2-1 : 5/5
Love Will Keep Us Alive : 4/5
We Will Rise Again : 4/5
Your Last Song : 3/5
Love is War : 3/5
The Cross : 3.5/5
Humanity : 5/5
This is a GREAT album.......2007-07-11
This is the best Scorpions Album since Love Drive. I have been listening to the Scorps since they were "THE" underground band when I was in high school. So I go back to Virgin Killers and before. This Album is GREAT. To those talking about the Scorps losing their "sting" you can't expect 55 + year olds to write an album of anger like their old stuff. This album shows a mature group of successful musicians doing what they do best. That is writing songs with great melody and believe me, when they need to get heavy they do. I cannot stop listening to this opus. One song is catchier than the next. Klaus sounds unreal and Mathias lets it rip when he needs too..... Buy this CD as you will not be sorry.... ALBUM OF THE YEAR HANDS DOWN...... Desmond Child is a RICH Man for a reason..... The songs, playing and production are all top shelf.
Humanity-Hour 1.......2007-07-11
Scorpions did it again. Great CD, we can't stop listening to the songs, especially the song Humamity.
Reminds me of old!.......2007-07-11
I've always preferred the Uli Jon Roth 70s era Scorpions to anything that came after and you'd have to go all the way back to 1982's "Blackout" to find a Scorpions album that I thought had more good songs on it than bad.
But a friend was playing this in the car the recently and I have to admit I like it. Liked it enough to get a copy myself. And like it more every time I listen to it. It's even made me curious about some of the other stuff I've missed; now I'll have to look at the rest of their more recent material and give the ones with the highest reviews a listen.
Bottom line, if, like me, you gave up on the Scorpions when they became "Hair-metal", give this CD a listen, it's pretty darn good.

It's been a long ten years since Take That disbanded. Their recent reformation and world tour offered overwhelming evidence that, far from being forgotten, the post-Robbie quartet can still command hysterical amounts of goodwill and adoration. Beautiful World illustrates why this is so. Written in conjunction with songwriter/producer John Shanks (Ashlee Simpson, Anastacia, Alanis Morissette), the album is crammed full with the songwriting magic that made their rise to fame so meteoric in the first place. Far from being an exercise in nostalgia, the project moves the band in a slightly new direction. The four come across as more mature, more democratic (all members share songwriting credits on the album, rather than just Barlow), and even more adept at making epic pop that somehow avoids the cheese factor. Lead single "Patience" is a perfect example of how powerful and accessible their songs can be. It'd be a good contender for the album's peak moment if the rest of the tracks weren't so damn good too. With traditional Take That style songs (the immediately likeable "Reach Out", the brimming "Like I Never Loved You At All"), nicely punctuated up by incongruous outings like Jason Orange's folkish "Wooden Boat" and Mark's upbeat, Beatles-esque "Shine", Beautiful World sets a whole new standard for a band previously known more for their singles than their long-players.--Danny McKenna

Beautiful World.......2007-05-25
All I cansayabout this album is that Take That has changed alot. It more mature and for all earlyer Take That- fans, this is not for you. But on my conpinion i think the earlyer Take That was a bit nerdie.
I wouldn't have been caught dead listening to a boy band!!.......2007-05-02
But, this is really amazing. I was barely familiar with these guys because I listen to a lot of American and British indie/alternative until my friend said "Remember that song 'I want you back for good' "
Uh...sort of.
After hearing Patience I was hooked and this album is great. Age and experience has served them well.
Take That, welcome back...for good!.......2007-04-30
Move aside Westlife, Justin Timberlake, and Backstreet Boys.
The greatest boy band of our time Take That have returned with a big bang.
Beautiful World is That's 4th studio recorded album, not counting the compilations. It's a nice collection of mellowed-down ballads along with some foot-stompers and crowd-pleasers.
The Manchester boys have grown up. It's been 10 years since the time Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, and Jason Orange announced that they were parting ways -Robbie Williams ditched the band months earlier and ended up being the most successful of them all, he does not return to the lineup this time around (it's his loss really). The overall feel and sound of World reflects the boys' maturity and self assurance. It also symbolizes the first time the boys share songwriting duties: Gary Barlow isn't the sole writer, Mark, Howard, and Jason all are credited; Jason debuts as a lead singer on the fantastic album closer Wooden Boat.
The album opens up with the breathtaking Reach Out, a beautiful ballad and future single, that reminds us why we loved Take That in the first place. The UK Number 1 singles Patience and Shine are simply awesome, the latter written and sung with conviction by Mark is probably one of the best pop songs I've heard in a long time, while the former is sung by Gary with such an infectious passion; Patience is technically Gary's first hit single in about a decade. Mark's Shine is the most upbeat song on the album with a beat that is similar to ELO's Mr. Blue Sky, with Beatlesque harmonies and an incredible chorus; the music video to Shine includes references to The Beatles' Your Mother Should Know video. Howard's radio friendly self-reflective Mancunian Way, a potential single, is a cool song that will eventually grow on you after a couple of listens, while the feel-good title track, Beautiful World, features one of the best harmonies the boys have ever produced. Gary's lovely ballads Ain't No Sense In Love, another potential single, Like I Never Loved You At All, and the first group effort I'd Wait For Life produce a nostalgic sense of how great it was being a fan of Take That in the 90's. Mark's What You Believe In is an elusive bluesy pop-rock number. Finally, Jason Orange's breakthrough Wooden Boat is a country influenced acoustic number (Jason actually has learned to play guitar and write songs over the 10 years that passed), and turns out to be one of the highlights on World. There's also a bonus track that appears shorty after Boat fades out titled Butterfly, a sweet catchy ballad written by Gary.
Beautiful World might not be as great as Everything Changes or Nobody Else, and Take That might not be as young and exciting as they were once. The album does lack the typical Take That dance and upbeat tracks along with the piano-driven ballads that made past efforts much more balanced. However, their return with this album deserves a very warm welcome. I'm sure the fans will agree!
So I will end by saying: Take That, welcome back...and hopefully, for good this time!

Best Ever Yet! Must have!.......2007-03-18
This come-back release for Take That is absolutely superb. You would never have guessed that they were ever gone from the music scene for the past few years. The tunes are right on with today's hits yet it retains the sound that made the group a hit in the past. You would never have guessed that Robbie Williams is no longer a part of the ensemble. Take That is positively right on.

As a band the Grass Roots were always a shadowy bunch, a front for studio musicians and professional songwriters looking to get their songs on the radio. They scored 14 top 40 hits during their reign in the late '60s/early '70s and their hits were among the catchiest and most enjoyable of the AM radio era. "Let's Live for Today," "Midnight Confessions," "Bella Linda," "Two Divided by Love," and a slew of others are shameless pop made brilliant by multilayered harmonies and arrangements that liberally borrowed from folk-rock and R&B. The Grass Roots may have been product, but what great product. --Rob O'Connor
Album Description
This low-priced disc is far & away the best single-CD compilation ever issued of the Grass Roots' work, 16 chart singles covering every phase of their history, from 1966's 'Where Were You When I Needed You' (in its actual hit version) thru 'Let's Live for Today' & 'Midnight Confessions' to their last hit, 1972's 'The Runway.' Originally released in 1996. MCA.
Customer Reviews:
Great CD!.......2007-05-26
This will certainly take you back in time. The Grassroots had so many hits and they are all here and are the original versions that you heard on the radio! My personal favorite is "The River Is Wide", which gets very little airplay on oldies radio stations. If you are a Grassroots fan, you will not be disappointed.
Grass Roots 2007.......2007-05-08
Just saw the Grass Roots(Grill and others) at the Sellersville Theater, in Sellersville, PA. He was using a cane but still sounded great. This takes me back to my childhood days and listening to the sound bites on this CD I am amazed how well he still sounds. I really recommend you buy this one. He also has a great stage presence and really interacted with the crowd. I would definitely recommend anyone who enjoyed this band in their youth to take time to see them. Yes, even after all these years! The crowd is small, personal and you won't regret it. He even cut a live CD in 2000 that he sells on tour.
POP MUSIC DELUXE = GRASS ROOTS style !.......2007-04-26
Well, what a great CD. Listen, I remember sitting in the backseat of my parents car, I was about 10 or 11 yrs old, listening to KLIF AM radio, Dallas. Hearing The Grass Roots songs through those cheap GM Chevy speakers was almost as good as ice-cream. I had just started playing drums (thanks, Ringo), and the Grass Roots songs propelled me even more. (I am going somewhere with this). Later, in the 80's, I went to a Texas Rangers baseball game where Herman's Hermits, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, The Monkees and The Grass Roots were playing a special show after the game. Well, I will say this, they were all good, but the stand-out (BY FAR) was Rob Grill and whatever Grass Roots band was performing with him. He KILLED the crowd, and let me tell you, those songs sounded as good as they did when I was sitting in the backseat of the car many years before. Get this CD. As a drummer, I've always wondered if Hal Blaine was playing drums on this CD. Hmmmmm. Anyone know for sure? (Hal was a monster drummer in the 60's and played on everything for everyone).
You will listen to this CD for a very long time. POP PERFECTION that STILL sounds GREAT!
An unknown tidbit about "The Grass Roots".......2007-03-28
before American Bandstand had a song "written" for them (by none other than Barry Manilow!) the theme song for American Bandstand was "Midnight Confessions" by The Grass Roots!
Now, I dare you say The Grass Roots weren't an important musical group! Before MTV, American Bandstand was the BOMB!
A definite blast from the past.......2007-03-09
If you remember and loved the Grassroots, you will still love them.

Album Description
2007 album from the hot DJ/producer, a culture-clashing album that finds 14 classic tracks turned on their head and recreated into visionary floor-fillers. Joined by the likes of Robbie Williams and Lily Allen, the eagerly awaited LP is a musical masterstroke and looks set to be the highlight of 2007. Featuring Dirt McGirt aka ODB spitting verse on Britney's 'Toxic' and Coldplay's 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face' also getting the once over from Ronson, it's already on heavy rotation across the club circuit and marks the second coming of Britain's most successful ex-pat DJ/Producer. Another album highlight is the soulful, stellar Motown revival of The Smiths' classic 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before' that merges into 'You Just Keep Me Hanging On' and features the vocals of Australian talent Daniel Merriweather. Columbia.

Stop writing reviews off of one song.......2007-07-10
There's nothing worse than someone who rates an ALBUM 1 star when they've only listened to one song. It's okay not to like something but that's like watching 5 minutes of a movie and saying it sucks. It's great that you love the original song, but you totally missed the point. Remaking something isn't supposed to be copying it, what would be the object of that? The concept of this album is to take previously released songs and rework them in the motown flavor. If you don't like the style, you won't like the album but if you do it's amazing as is his previous cd although it's flat out hip hop.
please stop.......2007-07-02
the cover of the Smiths song is about the worst cover of any song i've ever heard. and that's saying something because it started with some of the best lyrics and catchiest guitar hooks ever written. Mark misses the mark on this version by somthing like a mile. The original is full of humour and sarcasm with hilarious lines like "i love you only slightly less than I used to" and "he broke my knee, he broke my spleen, then he really laid into me." hilarious, full of amazing irony, sarcasm, wit. None of which appears on the Mark Ronson/Daniel Merriweather version on Version. The lines are there but the delivery is laughable, truly laughable ah ha ha ha ha ah ha ha ha ha. The delivery is flat, and in place of emotion is a dire sense of trying (and failing) to come off as sincere. It's a desperate attempt. The only solice is that Morrissey and Marr are, I hope, getting a lot of money in the bank. And maybe some of the suckers who purchase this album will pick up the original and be turned on to pop songs written and performed, with the tounge planted firmly in the side of cheek angst, the way they are supposed to be.
And then what is this awful twist at the end of the song by switching to another great song that has a diametricly opposite meaning to the first. at least they put it in the same key and time signature. but come on, really?
i haven't listened to any of the other songs but if this is any indication, I'd rather "crash down on the crossbar". Speaking of which, what is with the video? The scene at the Asian resteraunt? This is just a little too close to a literal translation of one one of the greatest metaphors in pop music ever written.
And Daniel Merriweather is just creepy looking.
Disappointing.......2007-06-04
I absolutely LOVED "Stop Me" when I first heard it, so I was really interested in hearing the whole album, especially after seeing the songs and vocalists. I'm always intrigued by interesting reworkings of familiar songs.
Unfortunately, what sounded so fresh and new on "Stop Me" got really tiresome by the end of this disc since it's the same formula on pretty much every song. The same drums, the same horns, the same tambourine.... Sometimes it's hard to tell where one song ends and the next begins.
There was a ton of potential on this album, but I don't think it even remotely lived up to it.
A tasty smorgasbord!!.......2007-04-26
Mark Ronson is a UK DJ/producer, and on "Version", he takes other peoples songs, some hits, others obscure, and does his version. The general sound is rich in horns, set to a funky, danceable rhythm, and loads of guest artistes on vocals.
Lead off single, and #2 UK hit "Stop me" is a lovely remake of The Smiths' "Stop me if you think you've heard this one before" which segues into The Supremes' hit "You keep me hanging on" over Hip hop beats. It features the lovely vocals of Australian Daniel Merriweather
Amy Winehouse (whose brilliant "Back to black" album he produced) guests on the sunny Motown-like "Valerie", which was originally done by The Zutons.
Lily Allen (whose lovely album "Alright, Still" he also produced) guests on the retro funk sounding "Oh my God", a remake of the Kaiser Chiefs song.
Britney Spears' hit "Toxic" is slowed down and almost unrecognizable, featuring vocals by Tiggers and a rap by ODB.
The Maximo Park song "Apply some pressure" is given a slight ska feel, set to an almost marching beat. Vocals by Paul Smith.
Kasabian show up on a funky remake of their "L.S.F", while Coldplay's "God put a smile on your face" gets the big horn section treatment.
Robbie Williams (his "Rudebox" album was also produced by Mark) shows up on the Shaft-like remake of The Charlatans "The only one".
I like it!!!

Glad I bought it!.......2007-05-23
I didn't know too much about Amy Winehouse other than the fact she's very cute...she has more than little substance behind the looks. Her style is artistically ballsy with a "full,Soulful" voice. Such a different sound than what's going on today in music and i like it...a lot! Some of her lyrics are almost haunting and a bit guilty at times with her ode to a past love who belongs to another#4 Back to Black...#8"Wake up alone" was very vivid to me like i could hear the pain in her voice...that's what i love about this album...i can really feel her lyrics...she has an influence from a lil Prince(whom she has shared a stage with,as the purple one is apparantly a bit intrigued by her), a lil "Etta James gone bad" and a bit of ska with a twist of "Pink" all equals a new sound that i really enjoyed. I can hear the 70's soul in her voice that kinda takes me back a bit... it's very hard for me to pick a favorite as she had me from the start of the CD with "Rehab"and kept me all the way through...my favorites include #2"You know that i'm no good"and i really love the 70's sound of #7 "Tears dry on their own"( Iteresting to know that Ashford & Simpson co-wrote this song because i swear i can hear "ain't no moutain high enough")...if you're looking for something different then give this one a shot...i don't think u will be dissappointed. I love this "TRAIN WRECK" of a dame with more balls than most male artists...Prince got similar reviews earlier in his career about his edgyness, sexuality in his lyrics and just plain being outspoken in a world where it wasn't too cool to be that way...i hope she has a similar path to what can truly be a great career...if the "train" doesn't wreck before. I LOVE THIS ALBUM...not because every else is talking about her but because it's just ...well...good.

Pink Moon is the sound of Nick Drake cracking up. That's not exactly true--some have long thought that his death by an overdose of an anti-depressant was an accident, and not suicide--but this album, recorded over two late nights, certainly sounds like a fever dream. Peter Buck of R.E.M. has called the album "Like an English version of (Robert Johnson's great blues) `Hellhound on My Trail.'" The lyrics to the title song read in their entirety: "Saw it written and I saw it say, pink moon is on its way. None of you will stand so tall, pink moon is gonna get ye all. And it's a pink moon." Aside from a splash of piano, the only instrumentation on this stark and spooky collection is Drake's eloquent acoustic guitar. --John Milward

Customer Reviews:
One of my all time favorite CDs........2007-07-06
I consider this CD to be one of the highlights of my collection. I don't have a large section devoted to folk music, but this is so good that even casual music enthusiasts should give it a listen. It is somber and a bit haunting. Nick Drake suffered from severe depression for much of his life and it definitely shows in this CD. However, the music is magical in quality. The guitar work is incredible and the raw melancholy of the music is beautiful. If you are looking for something mellow but engaging, you should give this a try.
Pleasant Listening.......2007-06-01
This album was recommended by Jeff Tweedy in a WSJ "Hit List" column and sounded interesting. I was not disappointed by what I heard but obviously do not appreciate it as much as Mr. Tweedy. I believe that someone who is into the finer points of acoustic guitar playing would really enjoy this album.
gut-wrenchingly emotional and hauntingly beautiful.......2007-03-05
listening to this cd is always a profound emotional experience for me. i can't pinpoint one or two songs that make the album great, though i do have my favorites. every song is beautiful on both a superficial and deep level: through the transparent and lush beauty of every track, it is almost impossible not to feel the crushing sense of doom in drake's delivery. the songs are haunting, ethereal, and jaw-droppingly beautiful.
drake was without a doubt a superb musician: he was both a masterful guitar player, with a fingerpicking technique unlike any other; and a beautiful and heartfelt vocalist. his dusky, sensitive voice managed to be both bashful and intense at the same time. parallels have frequently been drawn between drake's guitar playing and that of hendrix; once you get past their stylistic differences, you'll find that they were remarkably similar (and equally skilled guitar players). perhaps the most remarkable thing about drake's guitar playing was his ability to create the richest soundscape of any of his albums with only himself and his voice (previous albums were elaborately orchestrated). it is easy to forget that it was only drake and his guitar, save for the sparse and brief piano line of the title track.
to be fully appreciated, this album should be listened to intently and thoroughly. giving it half of your attention is almost a crime: although you will certainly enjoy the almost-soothing quality of drake's voice and his gorgeous melodies, you will not be able to feel the deep and profound beauty of drake's emotions that are so intricately woven into the fabric of every song.
it's hard to believe that such great beauty could come out of such horrible darkness, and i am brought to tears when i realize that one person had the capacity to make something as amazing as 'pink moon'. in an ironic way, this album gives me hope that the rest of humanity has the capacity to create things equally beautiful. nick drake was inspiring simply because of his ability to create such beauty. his work transcended the world of darkness that he lived in, while remaining true to it and never being anything other than authentic. 'pink moon' continues, more than 30 years after his death, to shine like a bright beacon, here to remind us that we all have the capacity to create light out of darkness. i'm sure if drake knew what a legacy his work would eventually leave, his world would have been a lot brighter.
Pink moon is gonna get ye all. And it's a pink moon........2007-02-14
Being a big fan of Iron & Wine, Sufjan, Joshua Radin, Elliott Smith, and Damien Rice, I thought I would try out this CD (also bought "Five Leaves Left"), as he seems to be an original...and I was impressed. Nick's guitar work is very solid, his lyrics poignant, his voice mellow, and his songs strong. The CD whips through quickly with its short songs (too short!), and I could definitely hear his influence in the modern day singers I mentioned above. Although I prefer the modern singers, this CD definitely will work its way into my rotation. I definitely recommend this album for those that enjoy this type of music...if you prefer Iron & Wine over Blackeyed Peas, or Sufjan over Timberlake, or Radin, Elliott, and Rice over Maroon 5, then you must buy this CD. But do like I did...wait until Amazon puts it for sale under $10.00.
Pink Moon is going to get you all.......2007-01-30
Nick Drake did not record a bad album during his all too brief life. This is his darkest effort, the sound stripped down to mainly his own guitar, and quiet voice. It is clearly a product of a great mental anguish, someone fighting their daemons, barely able to function. The lyrics are less lush and hopeful than earlier efforts, the arrangements starker-- overall, a bleaker, surreal mood that matches the album cover. The album showcases his guitar virtuosity drenched in melancholy and alienation. It is impossible to listen to this album and not feel for this man.

I agree with Daniel maltzmen........2007-07-04
I love NIN, and I love the new album, but Trent Reznor, like many successfull musical artists, is a product in the eyes of the record company. trnet has allready made it clear to fans and press alike that he is against the corpoarate interrest to banf NIN fans out of their money. He is also rightfully insulting his recording contract and claiming that they are trying to exploit his artistic interrests for a few more pennies, and alot more hype than he is seeking. If you know Trent, you know that he is brutally honest with the public, and has little to apologize for...so in that regard.....if your a must have collector....buy this. Otherwise, your wasting your time here. Year Zero is epic, but so far the singles are just an avalanche of the haves vrs. the have nots!
Much better than Part 1, but for Halo collectors only.......2007-07-01
"Survivalism", the lead single from Nine Inch Nails' smashing and politically charged album "Year Zero", was released in two parts as a single. "Survivalism, Part 1" featured the song itself along with the "Tardusted Remix" (which is also featured here as well). "Survivalism, Part 2" features all of the above, as well as the instrumental version of "Greater Good", and the rocking video for "Survivalism". You get more here than you do for the rip off that was "Survivalism, Part 1", yet this single still feels like it's meant for hardcore Halo collectors only. What you get here isn't bad, but there still could have been more put here, and the disc itself feels less like a "Part 2" and more like a "Part 1" with bonus tracks. That aside though, you get more bang for your buck here than with "Part 1", but either way, if you're a Halo collector, you'll probably be picking both up regardless.
Only for the Halo collector.......2007-06-16
"Survivalism" (Halo 23) has been released in two parts. Both part I and II contain "Survivalism" the album version and "Survivalism--the tardusted remix." Part two also contains an instrumental version of "The Greater Good" and a video of "Survivalism."
This is the type of Halo that's really just for the NIN completeist, fans who must own every NIN Halo. "Year Zero" (Halo 24) already has "Survivalism" and the tardusted remix included here isn't all that great. It's kind of interesting, with a slower tempo and more layers and effects than the original, but it doesn't really hold up for repeated listens. The instrumental of "The Greater Good" is pretty much like the album version, but without Reznor's voice-over whispering. The video of "Survivalism" is really cool, with cameras spying in on people in a building as they live their lives.
If you are a massive NIN fan, this Halo is worth owning for the novelty two songs and the video, but for everyone else, just stick to "Year Zero." If you do decide to pick up Halo 23, make sure you get part II, as it includes the instrumental version of "The Greater Good" and a video of "Survivalism."
Great song, pretty good remix.......2007-05-12
Both Survivalism and its remix had to grow on me before I loved them. I think for that reason I rank it 4 stars. The remix on this single is not a lot like any remix I've ever heard from Nine Inch Nails. My first thought when listening was that the beat sounded more like it was meant for a slow rap song. After a few listens though I really like it. The instrumental version of "Greater Good" is a nearly unnoticeable change (to me). The first time I heard the original I thought it was an instrumental because the singing is so soft anyhow. I don't think this would be a good single to get if you are a casual listener or are looking for a first single to buy since there are other singles by NIN that have a bit more depth and are more all-encompassing
cool.......2007-05-08
it's nin and it is a halo. the music sounds like nin but the singing what is that. the game he created is cool.over all the single is cool.
