Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars PAIN & TEARS.......2005-10-14

Wow, gritty street-level woe finally visits the Norman Vincent-Peal of Popsters! Listening to "Invisible" and "If I had the Heart" is about as existential as it gets. A real wallow in real-life concerns and mid-life crisises wrapped up in sublime strings and lullaby vocals. Goodnight, Baby Boomers.

See my review of "Living Return". I feel the same way about this one!

5 out of 5 stars Closer Than the Sun.......2005-04-27

At first I was a bit let down by this 1999 release, following the brilliant "Shapes and Patterns", but I have now come to love this CD, and in particular, the cut "Closer Than the Sun", a Sergio Mendes-like number, easily one of their most seductive tracks ever. It is obviously a favorite of the band, too, as it is featured on their (so far) sold-at-gigs-only CD, "Live In Tokyo". Can't wait to hear the live version of this wonderful song. (Hopefully it will still be in their live set when they tour the US this summer.) There are other fine moments on this CD as well, such as "World Out of Control", "When Morning Comes", and "Make You Stay", the closing track. This is a pricy CD, but a must if you love Swing Out Sister, or Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66, for that matter.

4 out of 5 stars S.O.S. meets electronic "hip-hop".......2005-01-29

Okay, first, this is an EXPENSIVE disk to acquire. So, it better be good, right? Well...

If you are into the usual pop SOS, about half this disk is NOT the usual SOS. (Thankfully the other half is!) What you get are a lot of songs that have a ting of techno, a helping of hip-hop, or some eclectic electronica going.

So what does this all mean? In my humble opionion, I would rank this as one of their lesser offerings. If you are a big SOS fan like me, then yes, you have to have it. However, if you aren't, you could pass on it and not miss all that much. In terms of "quality" for their recent offerings, I would put this third in line behind "where our love grows" and "somewhere deep in the night".

4 out of 5 stars Unusuall Experimentation of the Swings but worths to listen .......2005-01-08

A rare release from Swing Out Sister , Japanese edition full of electronic beats and rithms , far away from their traditional Jazz, Bossanova and Soul offers we are used to listen but this is a unique gem in their awesome discography , and for this reason it has its own value, its good , very good
