For some artists it is relatively easy to list a best of collection but not so The Ventures. Don't get me wrong this is an excellent album and is well worth a look but I am not sure it is a better "best of" than a few of their other "best of" albums.

The best instrumental band of all time! They've gotta be! And they're still around! Well, what's cool about them is that on these recordings, their drummer, Mel Taylor, has just made it in my Top 5 drummers of all times! Well, after he died, his son took over the drummer duties for the Ventures!

This collection is basically songs from the 60's that made the Ventures what they are, THE BEST at what they do!

This is probably the best collection of their songs that you can get. It's set at a great price as well!

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad, But Doesn't Seem To Age Well.......2006-06-21

I am being generous with 4 stars. It seems to me that the music sounds dated and doesn't age well. Not particularly interesting with so much other instrumental music to choose from. Also, the curse of any "best of" album is that there is always going to be something missing that someone thinks should be on there. Wasn't Pipeline a big, big Ventures hit? Also Telstar was quite popular too. Those are the only two Ventures songs that I recall getting consistent radio play, but perhaps I just missed hearing a lot of the other songs. Still, the album seems incomplete without Pipeline. Some of the songs are more interesting and innovative than others, which is why this probably deserves 4 stars.

A fine collection of songs that give a good variation. A Beatles song - I Feel Fine, Rolling Stones song - Jumping Jack Flash, Chubby Checker song - Let's Twist Again, TV song - Hawaii Five-0, western movie title of The Good The Bad and The Ugly. This Ventures collection is a little different from the rest which is why I purchased it - a highly appealing set of songs.

This is a collection of the Ventures greatest hits, misses, b-sides and album tracks. It has a pretty well selected group of tracks. But the interview with the Ventures for Armed Forces Radio isn't something that very many people will want to hear more than once. The radio spots are somewhat interesting, although they are incredibly dated. If you want all of the Ventures hits, here they are, and then some.

I believe this to be a great album from one of the great, enduring surf bands. I played it over and over and over for months. Lots of great cuts, many very familiar tunes, done by many bands over the years....lots of classics. Well worth the investment, a great addition to anyone's music library. A must have for anyone seriously into surf instrumentals.

Although it is not entirely The Ventures who began surf music, they did add so much to its popularity. Originally formed by Don Wilson, Bob Bogle, Nokie Edwards, and Howie Johnston. Howie Johnston left the group and was replaced by Mel Taylor to be the drummer.

In this album comes a detailed report on the history of The Ventures, so i won't go into great detail about them. The songs chosen to be in this album are great examples of real Ventures' classics. By starting with their first 'Big' hit, Walk-Don't Run, this album puts the songs in the order they were originally released. Playing one great track after the other, this album shows how The Ventures played and adapted with the times they released these songs. Although they all have the Ventures' feel to it, even though they were made to comply with the tastes of the time.

This 'Greatest Hits' album by The Ventures is truely 'The Best of the Ventures', when put in perspective. The better tracks on this album, which is hard to decide, are Walk-Don't Run, Lullaby of the Leaves, Spudnik, and Journey to the Stars. Although other people might like other tracks better then these listed, that is for them to decide. This album is for those who want to seek out the roots of traditional surf instrumental music.

      Fiona Taylor is right. This is a reproduction of The Ventures' Greatest Hits. However, that was a great album. This compilation has the same songs. I understand that somone else mentioned that this didn't feature the "real" Ventures. This man is a fool. I've met The "real" Ventures and I've been to quite a few of their concerts and they're the same Ventures playing on this album. Nokie Edwards has a style that can't be mistaken for anyone else. And Don Wilson's percussive rhythm is one that can be no copy. Along with Mel Taylor and Bob Bogle, this make's one awesome reproduction of The Ventures' original music. I bought a copy of this some years back when it was hard to find The Greatest Hits version on CD. I learned to play guitar on this CD and I recomend it to anyone. Rock and Roll Forever!!!

      This is a great cd from start to finish. Since the tracks have not been listed, here they are: walk don't run, memphis, rebel rouser, apache, bulldog, pipeline, telstar, hawaii 5-0, tequila, wheels, bumble bee rock, slaughter on 10th ave, riders in the sky, perfidia, let's go, green onions, raunchy, house of the rising sun, rock nuts, walk don't run '64, wipe out, secret agent man, guitar boogie shuffle, caravan, diamond head, driving guitars (venture's twist), sleepwalk.

      The Ventures were originally formed by Don Wilson and Bob Bogle. Later they met Nokie Edwards at TV show, and eventually they started playing with the original drummer, Howie Johnston. However, Howie left the group, during the midst of the sessions for "The Ventures' Twist Party, Volume 2" album, due to an accident he had prior to him joining The Ventures. He was then replaced by Mel Taylor, who since then is the drummer for The Ventures. So this album is played by all original members except for Mel Taylor. And it is a great album, full of their greatest hits.

      Don't let the low price lure you into buying this album. Don't get me wrong, it was not a bad imitation of the Ventures. But, I was all set to listen to all those great songs performed by the real Ventures. So, if you are a die-hard Ventures fan, stay away from this one.
