I saw Antelope play in Atlanta a few months ago, and was very impressed. If you like your music loop-heavy, minimal and artfully arranged, I'd heavily recommend that you check out this record. The end.

1 out of 5 stars Oh please.......2003-05-16

Everybody knows or should know that Killing Heidi are nothing more than a poor man's Mavis's, or rather, a watered-down, mass-market-acceptable, cynical record company executive's version of the Mavis's.

The Mavis's were a band led by a kooky-looking brother and sister from rural Victoria who combined insanely catchy pop hooks with noisy guitar. Unfortunately they were a bit edgy and challenging for the mainstream pop audience. What has clearly happened is some record company genius has said "What we need is a band like the Mavis's, but one that is a bit safer, and will do what it is told." Hence Killing Heidi. I couldn't and still can't believe the amount of record company hype they had behind them - even before they had a record out they were in Melbourne's best selling newspaper virtually every day - their publicist must be the hardest working man (or woman) in show business.
Killing Heidi are a perfect example of the cynicism of the music business which has inflicted on us such lame acts as Bush, Creed and all the other god-awful acts we have to put up with on a daily basis.
I'd say more, but it's time for my lunch break... (likes the Smashing Pumpkins, fer pete's sake!!)

What's the record like? Lousy, obviously.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING.......2002-11-29

Every song on this cd is incredible. Ella's vocals can not be beat. And the lyrics her and her bro wrote are awesome. They are a wonderful live band as well as in the studio. It is a must have cd please buy. The new cd is awesome as well listen to the new heavensent single and spread the word!

5 out of 5 stars Great Music From A Young Aussie Band.......2002-07-26

Killing Heidi have released a great CD here. As with any CD there are a couple which don't qualify for `song of the year' but none of them should prevent you from buying `Reflector.' Killing Heidi would have to be one of the best live acts around these days. This is amazing considering they are a young Aussie band. It takes a lot to be a great live act considering most music today is created with a lot of help from computer generated sound effects. Killing Heidi need none of this, but this CD is not live so no need to worry if they were terrible live. All they need is lead singer Ella Hooper's voice. Its fantastic and hard to rival. Listen out for the highlights of the CD; the radio hits Mascara, Weir, Live Without It and Superman/Supergirl. Those are to name a few. The less known but brilliant songs on the CD are Astral Boy and A Jar Labelled Small. All songs are written by the brother and sister Ella and Jesse Hopper who couldn't have done a better job. This CD can be listened to over and over again and is a pleasure each time. Worth a little money for a lot of entertainment. >Enjoy <

5 out of 5 stars Not girl-punk by any means but they rock.......2002-03-12

Killing Heidi, although too poppy for many, rock much harder than many bands today. Ella Hooper, the teenage lyricist and front-girl, is fairly incredible with a voice that would be hard to match. The rest of the band (including Ella's brother Jesse) puts out some great music to back up Ella. Together they've got an album that's, not only really good, but totally fun to listen to. Grab this if a radio-friendly track or two don't force you to turn up your elitist nose.

2 out of 5 stars They told me it was girl punk.......2002-01-02

I bought this album with the vague hope of it resembling a girl punk band as numerous magazines proclaimed it was. However, upon purchasing "Reflector" I found it was a series of bubblegum pop ripoffs sung by a lead singer with a much too radio friendly voice to ever be considered good punk. I guess its alright as far as bubblegumpopripoffs go, but whoever wrote the reviews for the album need to put their thinking caps on.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING!.......2001-04-17

Being a HUGE silverchair fan, I've developed a bit of a taste for Aussie music during the past three years or so. That said, Reflector is DEFINATLY one of my all-time favourite Australian albums- Ella has a killer voice, and I've even gotten my country-loving friend to like Mascara. I'm a very patriotic Canadian- and I wish Killing Heidi were, too, so I could claim them as my own. Bottom line: Kickin' album, awesome band, GET IT NOW!! You need it like you need oxygen!

5 out of 5 stars #1 CD.......2000-11-27

This is the best album Ive heard in ages the best songs are weir,superman/supergirl,and mascara :)

5 out of 5 stars Absolute quality.......2000-09-27

After hearing 'Weir', I must admit I was impressed - after all I am a home grown aussie myself. But then hearing 'Mascara' and my personal favourite 'Live Without It' I was hooked! Just about all the songs on this album are top quality and three singles on one album is a hard thing to come by these days - atleast good singles anyway! Buy it and love it - that's all I have to say!

:) GO AUSSIE!

5 out of 5 stars The Best Straight From Melbourne.......2000-07-12

Killing heidi are the hottest act to come out of OZ since Savage Garden. Their first single 'Wier' went up the chats and then 'Mascara' went straight to number one. Their third singlt 'Live Without It' Is rocketing up the charts. This album went staight to number one and when you hear it it's not hard to see whay . Ellas vocals really get a go in this album. The songs were written by ella and jesse , and very well put together. this is a rockn' album so if you havn't got it ..what are you waiting for?

5 out of 5 stars Top quality music.......2000-06-20

I heard Killing Heidi's first single Weir and it was good, but it didn't really grab me. I loved Mascara but still I wasn't going to buy it. However listening to JJJ one day i heard the song 'Leave me Alone' (track 5), and I had to go out and get it. This album is packed with top songs. I haven't heard many LPs with such consistent quality of music. They should go far internationally. I listen to this album regularly, and I don't think I'll get sick of it anytime soon. Love it!

For those of you who enjoyed the Reflector C.D., this Box Set is a must have for all you Killing Heidi fans out there. The live C.D. only enhanced my appreciation for this band. If you are just getting into Killing Heidi dont even bother with the American release. Go for the import. Most Outstanding!!

5 out of 5 stars Killing Heidi Rocks!.......2001-01-28

since i already have the original release of killing heidi's cd. i thought for awhile before getting the re-release of it. all the tracks are good. it comes as a 2 cd set, with the studio version of the songs on one disc and on the other with the extra 14 songs, they are all live. and the added bonus is that on the cd with the live songs. you get to see the american version of the video 'weir' and the video for 'superman/supergirl' and an interview with courtney cox. it's all good. i recommend it for any fan of killing heidi, because i don't know how long it's gonna be around for

man,i couldnt stop playing this disc.i was lucky enough to find second hand in a local shop in town and i havent been fortunate enough to find again.this cd simply makes me want to dance and not in a lou bega or backstreet boys way either!!!i love the swift electronic movements and thos gentle rays of wonder.i dont know how they do it but this disc reminds you of everything you liked about clubbing or raves to begin with.take this party to your friends next party or better yet just have them [...] order their own copy.leave yours at home!!!while you are at it,how about throwing in some old new order discs and pulling out a gigantic mirror ball so you can get that club feel going in your room.you could also make friends with the dj at the next rave you attend and ask him to play this baby.may you rave til the dawn!!!!!

    5 out of 5 stars GREAT ALBUM!!.......2005-08-24

This album was severly overlooked in the 'indie circuit,' with not even a SNIFF on [...], but don't let that persuade you, this is a very good album. From the first song to the last, it's tight. It won't necessarily blow you away, but if you like quality music, buy this cd, NOW!

    5 out of 5 stars A widely overlooked band.......2005-04-19

Reflector influenced me as a musician and a music lover. One of the most overlooked bands to come from Lawrence (Status was an overlooked label also), Reflector was a 3-piece that played with ease like a 4 piece. Songs like flower's and Anne Geddis is my hero, are the reason I've bought this album 3 times. I highly recommend WHatMG to anyone looking for some complex indie rock.

I would recommend picking up the full length album "Where has all the Melody Gone?" before buying this ep, because it has a more mature sound and provides that many more great tracks. I can't believe someone reviewed this in 2000. I really respect that!
