Amazon.com essential recording
Recognizing that there's no such thing as bad publicity, manager-Svengali Malcolm McLaren molded the Pistols into the most confrontational, nihilistic band rock & roll had ever seen. Propelled by Johnny Rotten's maniacal vocals, Steve Jones's buzz-saw guitar, and (most importantly) bass player Glen Matlock's hook-filled compositional skills, the Pistols' early singles "Anarchy in the U.K." and "God Save the Queen" defined the raging style of British punk. By the time they recorded their lone 1977 album, Matlock had been bounced, replaced by the image-correct but utterly untalented (and ultimately group-dooming) Sid Vicious. Not a 10th as good as the singles, the album nontheless remains a bile-filled emblem of the times. --Billy Altman

ANYBODY THAT DOESN'T LIKE THIS RECORD IS A .......2007-07-11
w#*#*r - FACT! I could write a serious review of the awesome musicianship of the music, the fabulous lyricalism of Lydon's lyrics or the tremendously meaningful significant influential and powerful socioeconomic and cultural impact this album had. But I'm not going to. That would be beside the point. If you don't like it f#*k o##.
The Way Punk Rock Should Sound.......2007-07-01
Give me some of that pure Rock 'n' Roll sound!
This is the only 'true'Sex Pistols album and really the only one you need.
Considered by many to be one of the front-runners of punk, but I do believe Iggy Pop and The (Mighty) Stooges did Punk better. Having said that, this has been one of my first punk albums at the tender age of 11 and it instantly opened my ears to a whole new sound of Rock that I never realized existed.
Immediately I could feel the Raw intensity of Johnny Rotten's maniacal voice, snotty, in your face type of attitude bleeds through the speakers from the Wildman that is Rotten himself. One of the first songs - "Bodies" is a perfect example of the pure punk attitude I am referring to - Animalistic fury. Screaming bloody mess! Real Brit Punk, heck Real punk period, out of 1977.
There have been many imitators since The Pistols, but why not pick up the original, in all it's aggressive devestating glory (?)
I don't think I ever heard a debut punk record as good as this. They just don't exist, but yes, this album here did help me on my search for real punk and DIY type bands.
Highlights of mine are "Bodies" - "God Save the Queen" - "Pretty Vacant" & of course the song that the band is known for "Anarchy In the U.K."- Turn it Up, Loud! (the way it's meant to be heard)
...Forget The Clash, sure they were a great band, but if Anarchy had a voice it would be Johnny Rotten's.
Good , Classic Punk .......2007-06-22
This Sex Pistols CD is fantastic, and (to me anyway) has aged well. I still find it rousing and energizing.
Johnny's voice is snide and proud. Why shouldn't it be , he had the best set of rags a punk at the time could wear, but getting back to the music and his voice, it's just a very well put together collection.
I love his opening of "Anarchy" with his sarcastic, sinister chuckle!
I agree that The Sex Pistols are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT musically than The Clash who are New Wave music ,like Blondie.
"Classic Vintage Punk" is what I consider The Sex Pistols, and this CD is EXCELLENT !
"Anarchy", "God Save the Queen" are real pioneer songs now. The political venom of the period.
Also "Submission" and "Pretty Vacant are just as aggressive and exciting as they were back then.
Highly recommended and deservingly over rated !
Love it !
Also
This album is a must have........2007-05-10
The people who nit pick about who is "punk", who is more musically adept are missing the point with The Pistol's.
I love all kinds of music, play guitar myself and was never into the punk scene and what went with it.
However, I'll never forget the first time I heard this album and the impact it had on me. It was devastating.
I may have Mozart or Sarah Brightman or The Stones or Coldplay in the CD changer tonight. Maybe Buddy Guy or some Verdi.
Then every so often I will stick in my well worn copy of NMTBITSP and from the moment I hear those marching boots and Steve Jones thunderous Les Paul crashing out the opening chords to Anarchy in the UK ...........I am suddenly 19 years old again with "no feelings..for any body else....except for myself...my beautiful self". Utterly unique and one of rock & roll's brilliant defining moments.
God save the Queen.
Anarchy .......2007-05-06
The Sex Pistols album Nevermind the Bollocks is completely amazing. I would say its one of the best hardcore punk albums ever(some other ones are the Ramones and The Clashes London Calling. Every song on it is pure classic, from Johnny Rottens insane vocals on Anarchy in the U.K., to Sid Viciouss nice bass lines on Submission. Nothing has been put out that compares to it as Johnny once said in a interview, and indeed hes right. Because today in 2007 punk rock is a bunch of nice guys who where makeup. Some of these bands are Green Day, Blink 182 and soforth. These type of bands dont deserve to be called punk rock because its a disgrace to all of the grat punk bands. If your a punk fan and dont have it you need it, PERIOD!!!!!

Complete your demo collection of the Pistols.......2006-03-27
Not much needs to be said about NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS, but the second disc is a necessary purchase even if you bought the SEX PISTOLS BOX, which is full of demos (but not all of them). There was not enough time to fit everything on that, so some tracks were cut from it. This 2CD set was issued first. The following track list was found after researching on the web. This info is not on the set (actually almost no info is on the set).

Not on SEX PISTOLS BOX
One thing nice about this edition is that it has the original import color combo, yellow and pink, instead of the later issue released in the US, green and pink. The song list of the CD corresponds to the song titles of the original SPUNK bootleg LP.
WELL WORTH THE MONEY IF YOU LOVE THE PISTOLS.......2004-10-04
This British version of Bollocks has a much clearer mix than the US version! That in itself is worth it since it's one of the greatest albums of all times. SPUNK is '77 demos and the Chris Spedding demos sounding their best. OK, I bought it for about 5 bucks less - if you don't want to pay full price, it's well worth searching for at a lower price; or check back here for a possible future discount.
The Defense Rests..........2003-10-17
I agree with the previous reviewer, but have to add a little historical background so you understand where the appeal possibly comes from. Because who doesn't already own "Bollocks?"
Prior to (and even after) the release of their one and only proper album, "Spunk" was one of the most highly sought after bootlegs on the market; most of the tunes were performed either live, or else underproduced, with Chris Spedding doing some of the guitar tracks (while the Pistols were trying to find a label that would take them).
After the fact, "Spunk" has some interesting tid-bits, but nothing you couldn't already find on a plethora of subsequent boots ("Flogging A Dead Horse", "Some Product", "The Swindle Continues", etc.).
A decent value, but not the essential work some would have you believe.
For fans only...........2000-06-02
The first CD is "Bollocks" in all it's snotty glory, still raging like a tornado that's just demolished a hardware store.
The second CD are a series of demos for the first album, including three recorded (as I understand it ) with Chris Spedding on guitar. Nice to have and all, but hardly essential.
For completists only.

Product Description
"Never mind the bollocks here's the Sex Pistols by Artichoke" is a stripped-down, folky homage to all 12 Sex Pistol songs, a song-by-song stylistic tweak that showcases the brilliant and absurd anger of Johnny Rotten's lyrics 30 years later.

Customer Reviews:
Punk is so, so, soooooo dead!.......2002-06-12
Once upon a time, not so very long ago, there was a small music label called Invisible Records. They hosted all sorts of avant garde industrial acts, like Pigface and Meg Lee Chin and Sheep on Drugs. The music was hard-listening, the very antithesis to adult contemporary music, relying on backbeats and way too many mind-altering chemicals.
Then something funny happened. The focus slowly drifted away from the industrial and into a weird sort of fuzzy land motivated, perhaps, by a different variety of mind-altering chemicals. Martin Atkins, Julian Beeston, Bobdog Catlin, and Rahul Sharma got together and formed a bizarre band called Opium Jukebox. They wanted to do some mystical-sounding Indian music, but at the same time, didn't want to stray too far from their alternative music roots. What to do, what to do?
They covered classics of the Sex Pistols, of course! And thus was Never Mind the Bhangra Here's the Opium Jukebox was born. ... It is not true to the original destroy-everything intent of the band.
I think that's why it's so amusing.
This is sort of a muzakked Ravi Shankar-sounding thing, with occasional elements of that Invisible Records sound I was talking about earlier. Only the barest bones of the original songs' melodies are retained. Everything else has been chewed up by a sitar and spit out onto a glistening, shiny CD.
I think Opium Jukebox have done for punk what Pat Boone did for heavy metal. Take that as you will....

I like to keep my teeth clean........2006-03-07
This album features magician Penn Jillette on bass, and his friends Dean Seal on bongos and Rob Elk on guitar. Some of their other friends contribute an occasional part, most notably Penn's magician partner Teller. The songs are fun and humorous. A few of then have been played on the Dr. Demento Show. If you enjoy novelty songs, you will probably enjoy this album.
Obscure and Addictive Whackiness.......2000-08-04
It's a shame that this CD is so supremely unavailable (I got it from a dealer in the Netherlands) because it is one of the most engaging and entertaining garage efforts ever made. Magician Penn Jillette on bass, (his partner Teller contributes a few sound effects) and a couple of other guys screw around in the studio to create a mess of offbeat and highly unique original songs, from the hilarious "Thorazine Shuffle" to the darkly snide "Got my Gun in My Hand (and I'm Waitin' for My Woman)". Penn is a pretty good bass player, but the musicianship ends about there, and who cares? With the brain-damaged ambience of "Mr. Lemke" and the vengeance anthem "What's Your Name, Babe?", not to mention the straight-ahead rocker, "Die Tryin' To Escape" there is no need to quibble about technique-the fun is in the songs. So find it if you can and spread the news-Bongos, Bass and Bob may rise again.
