4 out of 5 stars This CD Rocks.......2004-05-23

Every song on this album is excellent rock/punk....very catchy..high energy. There are a couple of slow songs and they're very good. Believe me, "American Psycho" is just the tip of the iceberg. I love this band. I love their sound. You'll love this CD. Why aren't they more famous?

5 out of 5 stars The peak of a career... for now..........2003-04-20

Yes, this is Treble Charger's best, for now. They had a chance to do better with the fallow-up, Detox, but they couldn't. So, to this day, this is the best Treble Charger album you can find. It's everything Maybe It's Me was only better. Catchier, more melodic... It was their biggest hit in Canada and their best chance to take on the USA, but they didn't. I won't talk much about that, but I'll say that Treble Charger deserved more.

The beginning of the album is where Treble Charger rocks the most. Brand New Low (second single), American Psycho (first single) and Buisness (third single) are probably the catchiest Treble Charger songs ever. They are the kind of energetic songs that they are now known for. Cheat Away is a nice ballad that reminds me of Red of Ever She Flows. Funny and Favorite Worst Enemy are of the same kind as the first 3. The rest of the songs are really slow compared to what we've been used to, but they still have Treble Charger written all over them. Another Dollar and Just What They Told me are the ones that really lets us hear the singer's voice (one of them anyway, Greig and Bill are both singers).

Treble Charger are at their best live, but they still shine on their albums. They are energetic and catchy. It's a real shame that Simple Plan, a band that can only be described as a joke, is getting more attention than them.

5 out of 5 stars Treble Charger - Wide Awake Bored.......2003-01-01

I just got this CD and I love it, the lyrics are really thought-provoking. My favourite tracks are American Psycho, Brand New Low, Favorite Worst Enemy, and Business.

2 out of 5 stars Too Mainstream!.......2001-04-27

Treble Charger has grown as a band but it may not have been for the better. With Wide Awake Bored they enter into the mainstream of "rock" so to speak. They had their own type of style but now they just sound like any other band out there. Sure, you may like songs like "American Psycho" but that is why everyone likes them now is because of this tune. Have a listen to the other CDs that Treble Charger release prior to this one. The three really good ones prior to this are "Self-Title","NC-17", and "Maybe It's Me" If you have a chance to listen to these you'll respect Treble Charger's prior music taste. It seems they have tried to enter a realm of artists who change their look and sound just to suit what's hip. They were a great band once and can be again. If you're interested in picking up a few of these CDs e-mail me at (e-mail address)

Thanks :)

I just got this cd for my birthday, and omg, it's so good... It's awesome from beginning 2 end. My favorite songs are Brand New Low, American Psycho, Business, Cheat Away, Funny, Favorite Worst Enemy, More's the Pity.... oops, i'm just giving out the track list... seriously, More's the Pity and Cheat Away are my favorite.

1. 4/5 Friend Of Mine: Nice guitar and prechorus.
2. 3/5 How She Died: Nice verse rhytm.
3. 5/5 Stupid Thing To Say: Beatles influence. Catchy chorus.
4. 4/5 Kareen: Good prechorus and tuning.
5. 4/5 Red: I think only the chorus is good.
6. 4/5 Fade: Flowing pop-rock song, last verse is great.
7. 3/5 Ever She Flows: Instrumental is nice kind of sombre.
8. 2/5 Forever Knowing: Okay, nice guitar after chorus.
9. 3/5 Mercury Smile: Darker heavy-ish song, last verse is catchy.
10. 5/5 Christ Is On The Lawn: Nice instrumental. Sounds like Shakira's "Underneath Your Clothes".
11. 5/5 Scatterbrain: Catchy horns and trumpets especially during the bridge.
12. 5/5 Takes Me Down: Underrated and one of my faves, the duet chorus is catchy.
13. 5/5 Left Feeling Odd: Mellow and harmonious. Nice guitar bridge.

Ok so the songs ratings don't match up but it still deserves 5 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Ever She Flows..........2003-08-15

Ever since I heard "Friend of Mine" on the radio back in '97, I've been a fan of Treble Charger. The album boasts some wonderfully creative songs in addition to some pretty decent songs. Basically, the album gets a 4 instead of a 3 because of the song "Red" due to the fact that it's such a great song, probably one of the best alternative rock ballads of its era. Overall, the album is interesting and is definitely worth purchasing. If you're a fan of the Modern Rock sound, this is a pretty good album from a pretty good Canadian band.

2 out of 5 stars One Redeeming Feature.......2001-06-14

This album is comprised mostly of forgettable alternative pop. There is, however, one gem to be found on this album. The song entitled, 'Red.' It's a fairly soft song, and quite different from the rest of the album. It's low energy, but very nice in it's simplicity. It has a lead guitar solo which is short, straightforward, but soothing. 'Red' was accompanied by a video that aired on Much Music around the time of the album's release. I don't recommend purchasing the album, but give the song a listen if you have an opportunity.

5 out of 5 stars Terribly Underrated.......2000-04-05

Wow! This is a fantastic CD. From the opening feedback of "Friend of Mine" to the end, it never fails to deliver. Really solid rock/pop guitar interlaced with Beatles and Beach Boys type melodies.

Where are you guys?

5 out of 5 stars another incredibly under-rated canadien rock group.......2000-02-29

I had the priveledge of watching a treble charger show back in '97 when they opened for the Verve Pipe in saginaw, Michigan. Treble Charger was certainly the more enjoyable band. Their albums are inspiring, the lyrics are insightfull, and in today's market of junk music it's good to hear another strong rock and roll band. Keep up the good work, I'm sure the radio will start playing good music again soon.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD........2005-10-15

I understand this getting bad reviews from those who like their pop-rock work. This one is more pop-punk than artistic but its still a great CD for modern rock fans.

1. 4/5 Hundred Million: A little too heavy for me but the prechorus is nice.
2. 3/5 What You Want: Lyrical rhythm is nice but not the guitar.
3. 4/5 Can't Wake Up: Nice intro the verses are nice.
4. 6/5 The First Time: My all time fave TC song! it's Sloan-Weezerish.
5. 4/5 Ideal Waste Of Time: One of the most singalongable tracks here.
6. 2/5 Hole In Your Head: Rock song you need to get used to.
7. 5/5 Don't Believe It All: A solid mellow power ballad sounding indier than the rest.
8. 2/5 Over My Head: Not catchy to me, the guitar is annoying.
9. 4/5 Tired Of It Anyway: Catchy singalongable verses but the chorus isn't impressive.
10. 3/5 The Downward Dance: Okay, on the disco side, but at least you can dance to it.
11. 2/5 Drive: I dont see whats good about the instrumentation. It's not typical TC melodies.

5 out of 5 stars In defense of one of my favorites..........2005-08-13

I've never reviewed anything online in my entire life, but I really feel I have to defend this incredible cd. Like the other 10 Americans who've actually heard Treble Charger, the first time I heard them was "Brand New Low" in NHL 2002, and I instantly became a fan. I was so relieved that when I finally got my hands on a copy of "Wide Awake Bored" that most of the songs were pretty good. After "Detox" came out, a friend of mine ordered me one as a birthday gift. I was blown away! 3 years later I still listen to it all the time. It is such a complete and cohesive album.
People's opinions on music are subjective, but I can say everyone who has listened to my Treble Charger cd's has enjoyed them. The guys in TC manage to write songs that are both arogant and catchy, and I believe that's a fantastic combination.
As for what was said in other reviews here, I really wouldn't trust the opinions of someone who'd throw hockey sticks at a band. So, you can discount those idiots all together.

2 out of 5 stars Sorry, but this CD stank.......2005-01-08

My rating is actually 2.5 stars, but I can't really do .5. Anyways, I really don't want to say this but this album was just plain bad. I heard the songs "Hundred Million" and "American Psycho" and decided to buy it even though "American Psycho" wasn't on it. The only good songs are probably "Ideal Waste of Time", "Don't Believe it All" and "Hundred Million." Other than that this CD stank. Sorry to be so blunt but it did. The first time I listened to it it was alright but after a few times it just got so boring. Their's no point in buying this CD for just a few songs so I don't suggest.

4 out of 5 stars Not.......2004-05-06

I've been a fan of Treble Charger since hearing Brand New Low on NHL 2002. This album is not bad, only the last song sucks beacause it is very drawn out. Youll enjoy it many times through and its great to see how this band has evolved (they have become more popish) but i must say these new songs are still pretty good. If you like Sum 41 and Gob this is a good band to hear.

1 out of 5 stars Canada apologizes.......2004-02-11

I, on behalf of all Canadian, apologize to any American who had to listen to this nonsense. Treble Charger is perhaps the worst band Canada has ever produced (yes, worse than Sugar Jones). Many in Canada openly their show their hatred of this "band" through pysical violence (at the Juno's - are Grammy's - the band was attacked with hockey sticks). This band sucks, save your money! Listen to a much much better Canadian band - SUM 41!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Real Pleasing!.......2005-10-15

These songs are so hard to explain! Oh well... This review is based on my taste. The volume for this cd is low but the quality isn't bad. Some vocals aren't clear like on Cubicle.

1. 4/5 10th Grade Love - Sad nostalgia. Has to really grow on you.
2. 5/5 In Your Way - Very nice warming slow song with a splendid ending.
3. 2/5 Trinity Bellwoods - It's not soothing as the title seems.
4. 3/5 Dress - It's okay but Bill's other songs are better.
5. 5/5 Cubicle - The drone sounding verses is really sweet.
6. 0/5 Popcorn Chicken - It's meaningless guitar noise. I have no idea why its titled that.
7. 3/5 Red - This one is more happier than the MIM version but is longer, about 5 minutes. I'm just not a fan of Red.
8. 4/5 Soaker - Very nice melody for the verses.
9. 5/5 Deception Made Simple - Not so indie sounding. The chorus is very nice.
10. 5/5 Pilot Light - The instrumental and singing is soothing for this ballad.
11. 3/5 Hint - The guitar thing is wack.

5 out of 5 stars Review.......2003-04-05

Originally called nc-17, Treble Charger was forced to change its name after legal hassles with a US-based band of the same name. They eventually adopted nc-17 as the title of their first release. As is the case with most young indie artists, Treble Charger pays overt tribute to their influences on this disc. The opening track, "10th Grade Love," with its discordant guitars and Greig Nori's nasal vocal delivery, borrows heavily from the Dinosaur Jr. songbook, while the ballad-y "Red" may just be the finest song Neil Young never wrote. Other tracks such as "Popcorn Chicken" and "Cubicle" recall the feedback-drenched, drone-rock innovations of Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine. Though Treble Charger never quite rises above the level of imitation on nc-17, the band does manage to produce a few of its own minor gems in the process. ~ Robert Kaups, All Music Guide

3 out of 5 stars It's Okay........2005-10-15

This is my least favourite treble charger album. First time I listened I didn't like but they soon grew on me so it'll probably be the same with others. But still its the least attractive for a top-40 fan; nc-17 appeals more. Don't judge just by these songs if you don't like.

Morale, Even Grable, Case In Fact, and Slight aren't that catchy songs. Cleric's Hip is okay too. They may be good to indie fans but not TC's fans who also like mainstream music. Sick Friend Called and Motor Control are more enjoyable. Disclaimer isn't of much effort like the rest but its relaxing and depressing you can listen to lots once it grows on you. And Half Down is sluggish, the vocals aren't good, mellow but not depressing like Disclaimer.

5 out of 5 stars Treble Charger kick [behind].......2002-05-31

I am a huge fan of treble charger, I am from Canada but live abroad, and what's so great about the band is how they're such a small(popular wise) and you cant buy there CDs in a store any where in the World except for the US or Canada (I'm pretty sure anyway).
My favourite songs are: cleric's hip-self title, mercury smile- May be it's me.

5 out of 5 stars treble charger is a very under-rated band.......1999-08-06

treble charger plays a great style of alternative and all their albums are great. They deserve more exposure. They are a truly great band. Some great songs on this cd are, Morale, Even Grable and Sick Friend Called. You should check out their other albums.

1 out of 5 stars Im looking for a song they sang was friend of mine.......1999-04-11

i AM LOOKING FOR THE NAME OF THE CD THAT THE TREBLE CHARGERS SANG THE SONG FRIEND OF MINE

5 out of 5 stars Is the new version of this CD different?.......1999-01-28

I got this CD in '96, but it's the original version. You know, the one with: 1. screen zine 2. morale 3. even grable 4. case in fact 5. cleric's hip 6. sick friend called 7. motor control 8. slight

So, why does the track listing seem to be different? did BMG get treble charger to make some new songs? Oh well. Let's get to the point. This CD is amazing! Morale is obviously the catchiest tune on the disc, but the rest of the songs are dope. Catch the videos for morale and even grable, they're so indie...of course you wouldn't really get even grable's video if you're not into Canadian music. This is a great followup to nc-17; they crank up the volume a little more. nc-17 is amazing as well; it is VERY indie sounding and I love it. Maybe it's me is alright, but the songs are more mainstream and MuchMusic friendly (as well as radio friendly). I have all 3 CDs and I'm torn between nc-17 and self=title for being my favourite. The enhanced Cd part of self=title adds bonus points, though. The "he is just a rat" is good for a laugh, and gives a sample of lots of other excellent Canadian bands, some from Sonic Unyon which is tc's original label. Also you should check out tc's website (although I warn you it's not updated often). So, if anyone knows why my Sonic Unyon self=title is different, send me an e-mail or something.

4 out of 5 stars What do you mean "maybe"? It is you !.......2003-04-20

I can't believe the USA never payed much attention to Treble Charger ! They have the potentiel to be as big as Blink 182 and are much, much, much (...) better than the horrible Simple Plan. Oh, if you haven't guessed, they do pop-punk-rock just like those 2 other bands. Maybe It's Me is the record that introduced me to Treble Charger. It's a nice introduction to the band, but it can't be compared to Wide Awake Bored (their best release). If you're a fan, you should also check out their fourth release, Detox (I think it's fourth, I'm not sure if there are 1 or 2 albums before Maybe It's Me).

Anyway, the record starts well enough with Friend of Mine, a very catchy song and also one of the singles. How She Died and Stupid Thing to Say are right up there with the first song. Red and Ever She Flows are great ballads that show the talent of these guys. Without taking anything away from the other songs, I think the best one is Christ Is On The Lawn. It's also a ballad but it really shows how beautiful Greig's voice is (or Bill's voice, see below for explanation). Not every songs are up to those I mentionned, but they're still good and shouldn't stop you from checking out this album.

By the way, there's a chance you won't notice but Treble Charger has 2 singers. One sings the more punk songs, the other sings on the ballads. I'm not sure who is who so that's why I can't say who sings on Christ Is On The Lawn. I only noticed this fact when I say them live (they are incredible live). It's not that their voices are the same, it's just that they have the same tone so it's possible to think they are from the same person. Well, that's what I tell myself every night before going to sleep...

Maybe It's Me is a good album to own, but it shouldn't be alone. Wide Awake Bored is a great fallower, better in my mind.
