About the Artist
The first major all-female band of the '70s.
Product Description
For those of you who have followed any of the all-female rock band over the last 20 years. Fanny was the first successful all female band that opened the way for groups such as the Go-Gos, runaways, Vixen etc. This album was recorded in Cleveland in 1972 and has never before been available.
There are some great performances on this record - listen closely to Jean Millington on bass and June Millington on lead guitar.
The impact that this band has on music in the '70s cannot be stressed enough and we will be bring you more from them at some later date.

Customer Reviews:
A very fine Dame Kiri .......2006-01-05
Dame Kiri Te Kanawa was never between my favourite singers but I have to admit that she is really a respectable artist and this lovely cd proves how versatile she is and how she managed to keep a fresh and mellow tone even in her fifties. She is really at her best in the extracts from Citizen Kane and the operetta The Enchanteress. It's a pity that no Verdi music is included in the program, Kiri Te Kanawa was a great Amelia (Simon Boccanegra) and a moving Desdemona. A very fine Dame Kiri indeed.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!.......2005-04-15
OK. I'm going to go out on a limb here. This is, IMHO, Dame Kiri's finest recorded performance.
I know that's taking in a whole lot of territory, but there is something simply magical, and magisterial, about her singing here.
Yes, I know "perfection" is that illusive impossibility to be sought but never achieved. However, on this night I think Dame Kiri did achieve perfection.
Simply a glorious life affirming performance by one of the great singing artists of the last fifty years.
Dame Kiri, Happy Birthday, and thank you.
Listen to a real diva!.......2002-12-17
Kiri's exquisite voice and expansive repertoire make for an unbeatable combination which reaches its crescendo on this special evening. A full symphony orchestra, two choruses, a jazz trio, and even a tenor (!) help Kiri in celebrating her 50th birthday. (That's her chronological age, the voice is timeless.) The hall's accoustics are excellent and orchestra and audience support without intruding. One of the reasons why I love Kiri's singing is that I believe she sings the songs the way the composer wanted them to be sung without the sometimes annoying embellishments employed by others. Kiri includes songs sung in her ancestral Maori in a program that takes the listener from the opera house to Broadway and then to an intimate jazz club. I love live concerts because I feel most artists are at their best before a live audience and this cd is proof. I don't believe that there is another artist recording today that has covered such a wide range of song styles and done it with such beauty and skill. This disc is confirmation. If you only buy one Kiri cd, make it this one. But don't be surprised if you start buying many more!
She Is the Best.......2002-10-26
The first time I ever heard the voice of Kiri Te Kanawa was on a recording of Salaambo's aria from CITIZEN KANE for the RCA film classics series on vinyl. It was one of the most haunting and beautiful pieces of music ever composed by Bernard Herrmann. It was Kiri Te Kanawa performance of this piece that was so incredible. I had seen the film several times, but to hear a high fidelity recording of Kiri Te Kanawa on this particular piece really demonstrated not only the raw talent but also a depth of intuitive emotion that she brought to Herrmann's composition. Anyone that could interpret the inner struggle behind Herrmann's music so precisely demonstrated an uncommon ability to become one with the music. I still can't pronounce her name correctly but Kiri Te Kanawa is the epitome of a well-honed talent. She is a gift to us all. This CD is very welcome.
Brava Kiri!.......2002-08-26
What a truly breathtaking concert! Kiri is obviously one of the top three divas to surface over the past fifty years!
Her technique is spotless, her tonality marvelous, and her intonation superb! For those worried about Kiri's "maturing" sound; age has brought a "different" soprano, but one just as lovely as ever...
The selection of music was fabulous, such a variety brings about an interesting and lively effect...
Kiri's Greatest Hits Live!, was truly a wonderful addition to my collection...I would recommend it to any opera fan!

Customer Reviews:
below average voice and interpretation; admirable program.......1999-09-29
Pilgrim's voice is without expression or feeling, and unfortunately, is with excessive and unstable vibrato. The selections are wide-ranged and interesting. The program has great potential as a comprehensive resource, but it's vocal performance lacks talent, technique, and interpretation.

Fanny LIVE.......2002-11-17
If you love female rockers this cd is for you. Fanny is great. ONE OF THE BEST! Great hard rock, great vocals, and great songs. The two sisters in the band are great guitar players. I recommend this cd to anybody that likes females rock bands.
Long Time Fannytic!! These ladies ROCKED!!.......2002-11-07
I was all of 5 or 6 years old when I first heard Charity Ball in my sisters room a year or two after it was released; both of my sisters hated it but got a royal kick out of watching me rock out to "You're the One (Ooh, Baby)". I thought they kicked...back then, but it wasn't until 199? that I was even aware that anyone else had ever heard of this band, much less that they had recorded live performances. Charity Ball was the only music I've STILL ever heard from Fanny, and now that all of the albums have been released to CD (albeit in a boxed set) I fully intend to get it and play them on my MODERN stereo at FULL BLAST with the bass on and REALLY hear it!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!! Can you imagine if they had been recorded with the full dynamic range? It was only a few years later that Boston was recorded with the full dynamic range available and a couple of years after that that Van Halen erupted on the scene and they sound so much fuller and dynamic. Can you imagine if Jean had EVH's or Tom Scholz's rig??
Fanny, The BEST All-Female Rock Group...EVER!.......2002-10-19
Okay, buy this CD, but while you are at it, go over to Rhinohandmade.com and buy the Fanny box set: "First Time in a Long Time: The Reprise Recordings." YES! Finally, their first four studio albums on CD, plus b-sides, demos, live recordings, etc. I received mine the other day--wonderful! The sound quality on this live CD leaves something to be desired, but on the Fanny box set, the songs never sounded better! The box set also includes some songs from this live performance. From this live CD, I especially liked the versions of "Charity Ball" and "Knock on my Door." Fanny fans and fans of good solid rock music, buy these Fanny CD releases--buy 'em out and maybe, if we are lucky, there will be more Fanny CD reissues in the mass market!
These women rocked!.......2002-05-12
Though, as stated before, the sound on this is a tad flawed, it's just great to finally have something released by this seminal '70s band. I'm still waiting for the studio recordings. Sadly, their best song of all, a b-side called "I've had it" is not included here (it was the flip of "Charity Ball"). David Bowie was quoted in Rolling Stone a few years ago as saying, "If there is truly any justice, the music industry will revivify Fanny" or something very close to that, going on to rave about how great they were. Trivia fact - one of the Millingtons sisters does backups on the Bowie song "Fame."
Fanny rocks!.......2002-05-09
Fanny absolutely jams out on this live recording. More people should know about this all-woman band, that broke all kinds of barriers in the early 70's. These ladies are very talented. Good, classic hard rock. I wish that their other albums were avaibable on CD.
