Just don't buy it. Listen to the songs---it's like elevator music. This isn't classic Grand Funk
Phoenix Rlues.......2002-02-05
The Mighty Phoenix rises from the ashes and this was GFR rising from the ashes of a long lawsuit with there former manger Terry Knight. Mark, Don and Mel Got the Name Grand Funk Railroad and Terry Knight go everything else. Phoenix was GFRs only self produced effort and I think its great, It was a departure from the early power trio days and hey added Craig Frost (Keyboard) to the band to round out the sound. The album had one hit Rock N roll Soul that is a fine song and GFR plays it to this day. But the album has many songs that are forgotten and should not be. Someone, Rain Keeps Fallin, Freedom Is For Children, She Got to Move Me, Trying To Get Away, I Just Got To Know, and Gotta Find Me A Better Day all are great songs. So You Won't Have To Die, A Little Goofy On The Lyrics but not a bad song, Flight Of The Phoenix an Instrumental that just rocks. This album sold a million copies but that was smaller sales then GFRs pervious albums, it was a transitional period of GFR and it is a must have CD for all GFR fans. Next came We're An American Band and Shinin On so the transition worked and GFR was back on top of the rock n roll world.

Any true GrandFunk fan,Will find Phoenix a must have for thier collection. This recording shows just how versatile they can be without compromising Thier commitment to good old... Rock & Roll. That is why I say there is no doubt that this is one of GrandFunks best ever. The sound quality of this CD is excellent no one will be disapointed.
Phoenix is a scorcher.......2002-01-10
When I was 15 back in 1974, I was cruising down an Oregon freeway with a co-worker when he slammed PHOENIX into his 8-track player. Prior to that, the only Grand Funk I had really heard was "Closer to Home", and while that recieved some feedback, this recording blew it's socks off my opinion. When I heard the crafty keyboards on "Flight to Phoenix", it literally electrified every musical nerve in my body...what a killer piece...the rest of the album is equally as captivating, all the way to the "Rock and Roll Soul"..I have since bought the record LP (it was stolen, go figure) and have not heard it except in my mind jukebox for over 20 years..have tried getting it on CD, but the going has been tough..I will be persistent in getting my hands on it again...and when I do, I may have my pit bull guard it by night...This is GFR at it's finest, before they went ultra commercial...one of my favorite rock recordings alltime..capturing my ear via a measly 8-track.
