Trout Fishing in America records are the musical version of face licks from floppy-eared hounds--it doesn't get much friendlier than this. InFINity, the duo's 10th album and their fifth for kids, carries forth the warm, wet tradition. Here, Ezra Idlet and Keith Grimwood cast their nets far and wide, reeling in tunes that range from folk to Cajun to general kid stuff to a Shaft-meets-Charlie Brown brand of funk, as Grimwood aptly puts it. The result is a fun, musically faultless wackfest, which, even with all its varied influences, never once dips below a loyalist's expected pizzazz level. A case in point is "My Best Day," whose Paul Simon-ish intro paves the way to lyrics about kid euphoria: sister's evicted from her bedroom, a blue sparkle drum set is scored, etc. While it's snowing whipped cream and raining chocolate on that tune, trouble's brewing on "You Can't Go," on which a player piano teases the song's slothful target. "Your daddy tried to warn you and your mama told you so," but the homework didn't get done and the dog didn't get fed, so it's sayonara, Charlie. A few songs cast a line toward the very young--"Your Name Backwards" works spelling wonders on the just-learning-to-read set, and "Simon Says" and "Dinosaur in Your Bathtub" set standard cases of the sillies in motion. Older folks will want to take the bait too, and not only because songs like "Are We There Yet" beckon backseat bickerers to play along. This record, with its unmatched gloom-chasing quotient, isn't apt to cause parental embolisms, even after a seemingly inFINite number of spins. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Great for young kids!.......2005-09-28

My son is 5 years old and loves this CD. The music is upbeat and the lyrics are clever (so not boring for adults). It's great for car rides and dancing in the living room.

5 out of 5 stars The best children's band that has ever existed........2004-08-17

When you first turn inFINity on, you might not be paying too much attention to it. Vaguely listening, it sounds like your generic children's album. A guitar/bass duo are playing what sounds like a generic children's song and a man with what sounds like the voice all children's folk singers have is singing generic children's lyrics. Whatever.

But after awhile, you begin to notice something that sets this album apart from the many other children's albums you've heard - the music is GOOD. It doesn't sound like children's music, it sounds like real, good folk music. And the lyrics... they're GOOD. They make sense. And they're funny. Oh, and they're not limited to folk, either. Check out the soft rock "Dinosaur In Your Bathtub" or the jazz "Everything That's Made of Wood".

This band has managed to create an album that not only is similar enough to children's music to hold kids' attentions and make them laugh, they've also made a great album for anyone who enjoys music.

And, adding on to their greatness, they have a great sense of humor. Tune to the second-to-last track, "It's Better Than That". The lyrics begin... "I got news for you kids who think adults are lucky - 'They own their own cars and everything's just ducky.' 'Going to bed whenever they want to.' If that's what you think, I've got a flash for you."

"Oh no," you think, "Not another song that's so filled with 'be good' messages, there's no room for real music or lyrics." Then the rest of the song continues. The surprise value of this song will have you laughing your head off the first time you hear it, so I won't reprint they lyric here. But let's just say that the song doesn't go the way you'd expect it to.

This album is the PERFECT children's album in that it combines good, clean music for children with good, funny music for adults.

5 out of 5 stars I love Trout!!.......2003-05-14

This album is great - loads of fun, good "repeatability factor" (this means you can play it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over in the car - the way kids always want to - and you won't want to press the eject button on the dashboard. Or on your kid's car seat.

The music is silly, intelligent, sly, outrageous and the fun comes through in every note. Having seen Trout in concert twice now, I can truthfully say that these are guys you want your kids to hang out with. In fact, you'll want to listen too.

The song "My Best Day" came out of a workshop Trout participated in with a bunch of kids all talking about what they wished they could have for their very best day. I think the part about "raining chocolate" came from Keith though. If you listen to Trout music, you will hear a distinct prejudice regarding all things chocolate.

Get this album, put it on loud and let the kids have a ball! I guarantee you will too.

5 out of 5 stars These guys just keep getting better!.......2002-02-14

From another family musician and a fan of theirs: I hear lots of musicians trying to do what the Trouts are doing--they do it best. It is intelligent, fun, thoughtful, kind, engaging entertainment with an ethic. These guys care about people and community. This collection shines and does not tire easily. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars More Trout, please........2002-01-18

Excellent! More danceable fun from TFIA. And don't call it "kid's music", please - the lyrics are always amusing for everyone and the rhythms just right for bopping about.

Album Description

The 7th solo album from singer/songwriter Colin Hay (from Men at Work). This album shows Colin Hay at the top of his game. It is a most compelling work from a brilliant songwriter. The album has a full electric sound with lush string and horn arrangements. Undoubtedly his best album to date.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Colin Hay is awesome!.......2006-05-11

My husband turned me on to Colin Hay as he and his best friend from high school were big "Men at Work" fans and subsequently followed his solo career. "Company of Strangers and "How Long Will It Last?" are beautiful, beautiful songs. I love the strings in "Company of Strangers"; it's a mesmerizing song. Of course, the lyrics on this CD are fantastic, as always, especially in "How Long Will It Last?"

This is my favorite CD right now. Buy it. You will NOT be disappointed. All of the songs are good. (The only one I skip is "Lucky Bastard" because I listen to the CD in the van with my 6-year-old and 4-year-old sons. They love Colin Hay and know the lyrics!

Incidentally, my husband and I were fortunate to have seen Colin Hay in concert at a club in Denver this past year. Colin is an OUTSTANDING performer -- funny, too! I can't wait to see him again!

5 out of 5 stars Colin Hay at Largo In Los Angeles.......2006-04-09

Just saw Colin tonight in the tiny club Largo on Fairfax in Los Angeles where he is a egular since he lives here - He began the set acoustic and then brought on four others, including his wife. The set lasted about 2 hours and was filled with Colin's humor and an absolutely amazing array of his solo work and some MAW singles as well. I hadn't purchased any of his solo work, but after tonight, they are all part of my collection - "Company" being the favorite since he played many of the songs found here -

4 out of 5 stars As Always, Good Stuff.......2005-12-30

You may find this one a bit sleepy at first, but stick with it. It's more mid- and slow-tempo than previous Hay albums like "Looking For Jack," "Wayfaring Sons," and "Topanga." On the first pass, only "Small Town Big Hell," "No Win Situation," "Don't Wait Up," and the haunting title track really jumped out at me. However, if you give it a few tries, songs like "I Got Woken Up," "Dear J," "How Long Will it Last" and the closer really start to grow on you. I started out mildly disappointed and ended up thinking it's among the best work he's ever done. It also features the third recording thus far of "Beautiful World," this one virtually indistinguishable from the version on "Man @ Work." It's a gorgeous song, though, so fine by me. All in all, a very worthy buy for fans of this underrated artist.

I provide the following as a checklist for Colin Completists who are stymied and frustrated by the lack of availability of his solo albums. If you wanna have it all, this is what you gotta get (wherever you can get it):
- LOOKING FOR JACK [1986, not commercially available]
- WAYFARING SONS [1990, not commercially available]
- PEAKS & VALLEYS [1992, available on import]
- TOPANGA [1994, available but expensive]
- TRANSCENDENTAL HIGHWAY [1998, available]
- GOING SOMEWHERE [2000, available]
- COMPANY OF STRANGERS [2002, available]
- MAN @ WORK [2003, available]

Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars Colin Hay is Amazing!.......2005-08-19

There is so much to say about this extremely talented artist, but the other reviews have done such a fine job in doing so. Along with Jeff Lynne (of ELO), Colin Hay is one of the most talented, yet under-appreciated musicians of our time. And, this album is truly one of his finest compilations. Colin is one of the few artists that can bring me to tears with the beauty of his music (in a weak moment). :) Order this CD while you can and try to see Colin in concert. You'll see exactly what I mean.

5 out of 5 stars colin is brilliant.......2004-04-03

well I have seen him twice in Australia in the last 4 years and he is not to be missed. The last time was in Melbourne I flew from Perth Western Australia to see him. I love all of his album but my favs are peaks and valleys , T>Highway and Going somewhere.

Album Description

In her new release, Christine Kane opens herself up to show the many different sides of her artistry, her personality and her spirit. An organic and often raw mix of tight acoustic textures and rhythms sets down a dynamic backdrop for Christine's earthy and elegant voice, which manages to hold within its range both vulnerability and strength at the same time - much like the whole CD itself.

Christine's reverence is undeniable in several cuts on the CD. “The Way Clouds Do” describes a gritty bus ride through highway traffic while looking out on the world through the eyes of a mystic seeking change. “Times Three” reads like a biblical text and moves dramatically with the pulsing guitar work of Larry Campbell. And the powerful “The One Thing I Know” poetically and effortlessly travels back and forth between the profound and the personal.

Christine's irreverence comes out in the more humorous notes in the album. The women in her songs live by the railroad tracks, drive beat up Volkswagens and don't go to church. The laugh-out-loud cut on the CD, “No Such Thing as Girls Like That,” starts with a comical look at an MTV video and ends with a description of an aging Barbie with sagging breasts and osteoporosis. Christine's masterful treatment of such a well-worn subject secures her place among the finest humorist songwriters of her generation.

“Rain & Mud & Wild & Green” was recorded in New York City and produced by Christine and Ben Wisch, making this Christine's first CD recorded away from her home of Asheville, NC. One of the best producer/engineers of the acoustic genre, Ben Wisch has a diverse list of credits ranging from Marc Cohn to Kathy Mattea.

5 out of 5 stars Touching and Easy on the Ears.......2007-03-14

This is my first Christine Kane album and I will be buying more. I originally heard "Roses" on a Putamayo compilation and loved it. The rest of this album did not dissapoint. It only took me one listen to discern 4 or 5 new favorites, I'm going to be giving this album as a gift to many of my friends.

5 out of 5 stars Good Pick Me Up Music Without Being Perky.......2004-01-23

Having lived in Asheville and gone to see Christine play at the Grey Eagle whenever possible, I pull out this CD whenever I need to feel GOOD. Her voice and music are amazing, and she has intelligent and mostly uplifting lyrics.

5 out of 5 stars A guy likes her stuff, too.......2003-10-22

I know Christine Kane from this new album and her song "Off the Ground" which is on Putumayo's great _Women's Work_ CD. The latter is an all-time favorite song, so when my wife got me R&M&W&G for an anniversary present I was hoping for a lot. It has no tracks that are new total favorites, but somehow it's alway in one CD player or another around here. We've decided to add a star to my original four star rating.

It's good at work in the studio, very good at my desk, I like it in the car, and it's been on the big stereo a time or two, too. I guess I must really like the way it all fits together.

"She Don't Like Roses" is the reason for adding a star with time. It took me awhile to see how perfectly the gentle tune and musical arrangement match the characters and the sweet little story of two people finding each other.

"Times Three" is fluid and emotional without being overbearing. If you like it, you should read the strange novel by Dorothy Bryant called _The Kin of Ata Are Waiting for You_. They are two very different takes on the idea that our dreams are an important part of our personal realities.

Ms. Kane is coming to Northern California soon, and I am so looking forward to seeing at least one of her shows! I'll bring a green pen for an autograph and some green to get her other CDs.

Dec 9
P.S. She rocked, of course!

4 out of 5 stars Great Stuff.......2003-10-17

This lady has real talent. I saw her tonight in concert in a small 200 seat place in Chattanooga. Christine has an easy and gentle raport with the crowd and is almost instantly likable. Then she sings, and, you are completely won over. When she wants to be funny, she is without being corny. When she wants to be serious or touching, she is able to draw the listener into her private world of emotions.Christine is a good singer and a good guitar player and an excellent song writer. This is a very good cd, but if you ever have the chance, go see her live. You will think she is singing to you.

5 out of 5 stars Da Bomb, Yo!.......2003-08-22

Album Description

Glow's first full-length CD, Rain Theory, improves on the best of their 2003 EP, Gabriel. From the hard-hitting "Single" to the plaintive-yet-danceable "The Wind That Shakes The Barley", Rain Theory's layered musical textures and melodic vocals move in a more upbeat direction while still maintaining their emotional intensity.

Customer Reviews:

glad i got this cd its great love the music and singing one of the best ive heard in a long time.

5 out of 5 stars Astonishing, deep........2007-01-05

Recently I purchased Glow's "Rain Theory" and "The Years." The only word that comes to mind in describing "Rain Theory" is astonishing. Glow's beautiful voice combines flawlessly with delightfully simple synthesized instrumentals to provide song after song of deep musical sensations. Many of the songs on "Rain Theory" feature lyrics focused on lost love. At first glance (or listen) someone might think the music here is to be gloomy or moody, but this is not so. The CD's dominant body of work seems to focus intently on themes of pain and healing such that the songs, to me, celebrate human resilience and passage beyond life challenges.

My own musical tastes vary considerably - from disco and classic 80's to contemporary rap and happy hardcore - and I am very happy to make room on my CD rack for Glow's fantastic musical mastery. I encourage everyone to give Glow a listen and be prepared to reawaken your emotions.

5 out of 5 stars ALL THINGS EXQUISITE! I AM A NEW GLOW FAN FOR LIFE!.......2006-01-16

I just recently purchased "Rain Theory", along with "The Years" (the incredible follow-up to this album) and "Gabriel" (the precursor EP of this), and can not possible recommend this enough to anyone willing to listen. Now this is what music should sound like - flawless musical craftsmanship and heartwrenching, soul shattering vocals. This album, much like Glow's sophomore release, "The Years", is a masterful blend of emotional electronica; dark, sexy trip-hop perfectly married with slightly sweetened synthpop. The result? Absolutely delicious and decadent.

I must say that I am fairly disappointed to see that I am only the fourth person to review this album. While I wouldn't expect Glow to be mainstream, given what passes for music in the mainstream, I am really surprised that more electronica fans aren't really all that familiar with Glow. That statement goes for myself as well, a self-confessed audioslave to pretty much anything and everything trip-hop, synthpop and downtempo, as I just very recently made the plunge into Glow. If only I had known earlier what an indispensible addition their albums would be to my collection.

Don't put this one off any longer! Make Glow a part of your constant rotation and you won't be disappointed. Also, don't forget to pick up a copy of "The Years".

I am a 34 year old Real Estate agent who used to own a Dance Club.... Think 10 years ago going to school... My personal leanings musically are more 80's dance and new wave... I got into the Gin Blossoms, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Origin stuff in the early 90's but when Nirvana changed the style of mainstream music I sort of dropped out... Went to dance music and there wasnt much of it... These past few years as I was busy with a family and real job I have not payed much attention but about a year ago I found Synthpop and www.adifferentdrum.com and www.slothradio.com aside from the synthopop and Blank and Jones type stuff I have been listening to I also have liked a lot of the teen-i-bopper music out latley... really top fourtyish as it has a dancable beat and the best writers seem to have gone that direction for the money.... K thats a long intro for why this album BLOWS me away... I have all this stuff playing in my office to keep me and my staff pumped all the time and whats wierd is we have this server (iTunes) where everyone can choose from 90 gigs woths of music and with iTunes you can keep track of number of plays. In the past 3 months with probably 100 new CDs in the server in that time this one is on top of all of them with the Killers coming in second. Its sort of dark, but energy filled, INCREDIBLE vocals and it really makes you want to dance. Please... check out the different mixes of

5 out of 5 stars Mmmm...my music collection is getting minty fresh...........2004-12-02

I mean it too. These past few albums that I have reveiwed really have brightened my music collection.

There wasn't much excitement going on in my music collection, so I actually did all these recommendation steps for amazon, and WOW. I am getting really good results, and I'm happy I have been taking these risks.

This CD rocks.

It's heavy enough for me, not so light, but it's got a slightly more goth rock/industrial sound to it. Like Ego Likeness or Faith and the Muse.

The first song "Single" is a perfect mix of these elements, and really starts the album off well. I think this group has a lot of potential and hope they continue putting out music.

The "Gabriel" song is really good. It's fast, and it has some good beats.

The remix, which is also on the CD, is positively stunning. I love it. Changes the feel of the song totally. makes it harder, and darker, and even adds some trance to it.

I'm very thankful for finding this genre, and I can only hope to explore it more and more.

The Stick Game is a traditional game that is played by Northwest area tribes and some tribes in British Columbia. It's a game of chance, that at one time was used as an ice breaker between tribes when they would gather. Today, these games are still played.

This game utilizes sticks, which act as scoring devices. There are also a couple sets of bones. Each set of bones include one with a stripe around it, and one without a stripe, which is the bone the opposing team tries to guess as it is hiding in the hand of a player on the opposing team. The team that has the bones and can keep the opposing team from Guessing the correct bone wins sticks, until the game is finally won by the winning of the Kick Stick.

There are also the Stick Game songs. These songs are used to both distract the other team, and to pump your team up during the game. This recording is dedicated to the people who keep the Stick Games and those songs alive.

    Album Description

After 10 years representing American synthpop, even through the difficult 90's when electronic pop music was virtually ignored by the larger music industry, Cosmicity now releases the band's landmark album "Escape Pod for Two" which is also announced as the band's final album. The album has the flavor of a sci-fi romance, with futuristic themes and the most polished electronic pop music Cosmicity has ever produced.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Terrific electronic pop.......2004-04-20

Mark Nicholas, a.k.a., Cosmicity recently announced that he will be retiring the Cosmicity name and striking out under his own name. He wants to be able to go in new directions without the preformed expectations of Cosmicity fans.

I hope Nicholas retains his excellent pop sensibilities no matter what name he records under. "Escape Pod for Two" is a terrific pop CD that highlights Nicholas' ear for harmony, arrangement, and melody.

"Sedgwick" kicks off the CD with a melodic bang. What follows is an electronic pop collection of memorable songs. Nicholas takes inspiration from the Pet Shop Boys (delicate background harmonies and endless variations of the melody) and other acts, but he adds his own lyrical and musical stamp to the songs.

Accompanying the CD is a second CD of remixes and other tracks. My favorites include the "Syrian remix" of "Sedgwick" and "Regenerate". Electronic pop fans will not be disappointed. For more info on Nicholas, check out his Web site at www.cosmicity.com.

    4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2004-03-06

Calling this album perfection is a stretch, but I admit that it is very good. Possibly one of Cosmicity's best. I need to acquire the Pure album to determine which album is truly the best Cosmicity album of all time. and please, don't retire!

    5 out of 5 stars Sheer perfection.......2004-01-21

The pinnacle of the American synthpop genre has been reached, and a new bar has been set by Cosmicity's "Escape Pod for Two". Mark Nicholas (aka. Cosmicity) has assembled a complete album of cohesive, well produced, thought/emotion provoking songs. Rarely does a songwriter have the ability to weave meaningful storylines and arcs into a 3 1/2 minute "pop song", but Cosmicity is able to do just that. Beyond just creating meaningful and emotive songs, this time around Cosmicity has woven together an entire album of interlaced songs. Each song leads to the next, builds from the previous... it's one long story spread across 11 tracks. Equal parts "synth" and "pop", Cosmicity has been at the forefront of the synthpop genre since debuting in 1994 with "The Vision". Careful not to sound like a clone of any other band that came before, Cosmicity has always blazed a new trail and worked on finding a unique sound and serving an underserved audience... synth fans who enjoy the occasional good pop song. Radio-friendly tracks include "Sedgwick", "Tinnitus", and Billboard Top 10 worthy "Regenerate". Synth purists will enjoy "Abort", "Departure" and "Vast". All in all, I cannot recommend this album highly enough. Anyone who has enjoyed any (or all) of Cosmicity's previous works will find "Escape Pod for Two" to be the bright shiny cherry on the top of the sundae that has been Cosmicity's musical career.

    5 out of 5 stars I didn't think Pure could be topped..........2004-01-03

...But I was wrong! EP42 is total deliciousness from beginning to end. Though "I Want You" from Pure remains my favorite Cosmicity song, EP42 is an even better album overall. Pure had a couple tracks that didn't do much for me, and even one that I could hardly stand ("The Perfect Shape"), but there isn't one track on EP42 that is skippable. The whole thing is wonderful and fluid. I like that there is a constant chronological theme (a personal love story taking place in space). Mark placed the songs and moods perfectly, keeping the listener ever engaged. My personal favorites are "Sedgwick," "In Flight," "Regenerate," "Tinnitus," "Vast," and "Oxygenius." Okay, that's more than half the album, but it's that good. I truly love every song. If I HAD to pick a least favorite, it'd be the title track. But that should say a lot about the album, considering that the title track is a great love song. If you are already a fan of Cosmicity, you will definitely not be disappointed. If you are new to Cosmicity, this is a great place to start, as it is truly the pinnacle. There isn't one person that I've played Cosmicity for (fans of synthpop or not) that hasn't loved it. *sigh* Mark, we're gonna miss you.

    5 out of 5 stars You won't be sorry.......2003-12-21

This final album from Cosmicity is definitely a strong note to go out on. My favorite songs are the title track and I can't say enough about Futuresong. I think it has to be the most real and beautiful love songs I've ever heard. Not cliche, not superficial. The album is basically the story of how Mr. Cosmicity himself met, fell in love with, and married his wife. It's a beautiful journey and a CD that anyone would enjoy having in their collection, whether you're a big fan of Synth pop or not. The vocals are typical Cosmicity, smooth and beautiful. One of the most soothing and lovely male voices out there. Get this CD. You won't regret it.

    5 out of 5 stars A great one.......2003-12-10

This album has inspired and inspiring performances of some of Ms. Kane's best songs from her first two studio albums.

"A Thousand Girls", "Tucson", "The Problem With Jazz" and, of course, "Off the Ground" are really wonderful to listen to. I am also glad to hear that the recording features a bit of her honest, funny between-song patter.

I like it as well as her most recent album Rain and Mud and Wild and Green.

If you like the Indigo Girls and similar folk or folk rock acts, it's time you heard Christine Kane.

    5 out of 5 stars a great vicarious fix.......2003-11-02

I had never heard of Christine Kane before a friend invited me to one of her shows, and these were the things that amazed me after seeing her perform live: 1. that we were not in a packed-full stadium full of fans throwing flowers and/or themselves onto the stage, and 2. that I myself had enough restraint as to not do that in front of the 80 or so people at this particular performance.

Her shows are like that, and so is her Live cd. It's true: she is a phenomenal lyricist and musician and that is evident on all of her cds. But to me, the thing that sets Ms. Kane apart from the pack and keeps me wanting more is the energy and style of her live performances, and her Live cd captures that experience. Like her shows, Christine Kane Live is fun, spirited, generous, thoughtful, dear, sexy, smart, sassy, real, and at times, just short of being raunchy, which we love. It's just her and her guitar, doing what she does --- which is to give so much to her audience that we all feel wonderfully spoiled. I have been listening to this cd for more than a year now and I still just love it. I always feel like I've given myself a treat when I listen to it ... not only is it really great music, but listening to her Live cd transports me back to that delightful gift of being in her audience.

If you've never been to one of Ms. Kane's performances, I highly recommend getting to one. And if you can't immediately make it to one of her shows, my suggestion is to drop her Live cd directly into the shopping cart and proceed to checkout ... it's a great vicarious fix!
