This follow-up collection of "music from and inspired by" the WB network's successful teen witch-with-a-family-twist series offers up a compelling, distaff spin on the first volume's contemporary mix of pop and rock, gathering together 11 all-female tracks, an eclectic mix that spans the diversity of The Donnas' rousing rock opener "Take It Off" and a beat-savvy remix of Broadway-cum-Vegas diva Sarah Brightman's "Free." Its other disparate, yet inviting corners feature signature performances from alt.divas Liz Phair (the gritty "Take A Look" from her eponymous fourth album), Vanessa Carlton and Aussie newcomer Missy Higgins, a shimmering remix of Sarah McLachlan's emotive classic "Fallen," Shivaree's spooky "I Close My Eyes" and the deliciously haunting "House" by Zero 7—though teen-pop lip-sync queen Ashlee Simpson's sugary "Pieces of Me" can't rise above its slinky David Garcia and High Spies remix. --Jerry McCulley

1 out of 5 stars question.......2007-03-11

When has Zero 7 been played in the episodes? Season, episode?
Why is that song on the soundtrack? Same for Shivaree.
My personal opinion: this album is pretty crap.

The Charmed theme song is a Smith's song named "How Soon is Now?" from their album "Meat is Murder". However, it is sung here by Richard Butler from Love Spit Love (formerly of the Psychedelic furs). You can find their two albums here on Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Here's your help Kristina..........2006-07-31

Kristina,

The Charmed theme song is a Smith's song named "How Soon is Now?" from their album "Meat is Murder". They are the original writers/performers of the song, not sure who actually is performing the version as heard on Charmed (it sounds a bit different to me, and is obviously edited to shorten the song).

Somebody tell me the name of the song that is played when the cast starts at the ending of the movie. you can tell me by email : naveed_one@hotmail.com . thanks, I'll try myself hearing the samples until I get any help from anyone.

3 out of 5 stars missing some of the songs from the movie.......2003-03-04

This cd would have been alot better if they would have included Marilyn Manson's "Disposable Teens" and Poe's "Haunted", but some how they screwed that up. Don't get me wrong, it's an ok cd, but it's just not the same without the other two. But anyways, my favorites are Lie Down, Mind, Stick It Up, Suicide Is Painless, PS, Old Enough, & Feel Good Hit Of The Summer. My only complaint is, why is Stick It Up edited?! That really makes me mad. Oh well, I guess the cd was worth it. I've had the cd since it came out, and since then I have probably bought all of the albums from the more famous bands on it. So you might like the actual bands' albums better. I think I do. That's all.

5 out of 5 stars The mutts nutts.......2002-01-23

I thought this soundtrack was excellent, solid top tunes throughout the begining to the end. You can winge 'they could of had this and not that' but who cares, it was good to hear At the drive in and Queens of the Stoneage in a movie. It was a fast and entertaining soundtrack for an fast entertaining movie. Much better than the miserable first movie which didn't even bother with tunes. I mean, if you go camping in the woods, you'd make sure you took a Brixton breafcase wouldn't you?

The original Blair Witch Project, the gothic Z-budget horror film that became the 1990's most unlikely blockbuster, was so impoverished it literally didn't have a score. Its soundtrack ultimately became one of those suspicious, quickly produced "Music inspired by" collections of motley rock tracks. The inevitable sequel was well-funded, though only a fraction as financially successful. Arguably, one of the producer's wisest investments the second time around was hiring Carter Burwell to produce the music. The musician has risen to the occasion here with one of his most experimental scores, an exercise in dark atmospherics using samples of falling water and rustling wind coupled with a relentless rhythmic thrust. The effect is an eerie, all too compelling soundscape of the mysterious forest and its impending terror; nary a recognizable melody surfaces until halfway through, by then suffused in a tense stand-off between the organic and the electronic. Although subtly reminiscent of The Shining, this is Burwell at his most distinct and inventive. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars MESMERIZING!! CHILLING!! HYPNOTIC!! SURREAL!!.......2005-11-08

I'm not going to bore you with the details of the movie, artist or methods used to produce this recording.

Here is what you would really like to know:

The definitive Blair Witch soundtrack-without the "music"
from a compilation of new bands.

Forget the film! Close your eyes! This CD will bring you closer to the Blair Witch than you thought possible!

Mesmerizing! Chilling! Hypnotic! Surreal! Lush textures and sounds! (Industrial-Goth bands take note!)

A "must have" CD of premium background sound for your dungeon or chamber!

So very easy with Amazon on your side!!

5 out of 5 stars It may be hard to believe, but the music is amazing.......2002-03-11

I had no interest in the stupid film, but I picked up the CD based on Burwell's previous work with the Coen's. NOTHING he has done before could prepare you for this EXTREMELY innovative and atmospheric music. Creepy and elegant, it is far more original than the work Burwell is usually hired to crank out. He must have been given total free reign here, whereas I think he is a victim of being too versatile and professional. Sure this is a slick record, and may lack soul, but it is great music for a long drive in the woods.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting, if not Burwell's best work........2002-01-12

While I admire Carter Burwell's innovation, and I think this score is better than the movie, I don't think it's his best work, or admire it as much as some of the others here. While it does contain unique use of samples in music, as others have noted, the average listener might find some of the tracks monotonous or their mind drifiting as they listen to it.

The easist way to review this is to say that if you liked the feel of the films, and a sample based score build around natural sounds is your cup of tea, it might be worth your money. If not, then skip it. I would normally give a score like this 3 stars, but I'm giving it 4 because of it's unique attempts in sound design.

5 out of 5 stars Far better than the song CD (or the film).......2000-10-28

Much of the music is built from forest sounds like rocks and water which were electronically processed to create otherworldly ambiences. There is also the modern air of ancient rituals - wiccan raves. An interesting change of direction for Carter Burwell after his more traditional scores for "Being John Malkovich" and "Fargo".

5 out of 5 stars "spine-tingling score, rivals even the scariest scores".......2000-10-27

Milan and Carter Burwell have given it their best shot, and they've hit the mark, just in time for halloween..."Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2". Burwell scored "The General's Daughter", "Being John Malkovich" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", a prominent composer, but with this latest venture he steers away from the trend of loud orchestra, often heard in contemporary horror films, concentrating on the innate sense of fear, like the dark woods would evoke.

Carter creates chills not by what you see and hear, but by what your imagination invents due to his music's tone, relying on melodic and harmonic development, sounds of the forest build an emotional effect by clinging to the characters relentlessly.

Opening track is a good example "ROCK WATER WIND", sounds of water hitting rock, the wind...all of this is created by percussion and drums with rhythms wildly surrounding you and engulfing your mind completely..."RAIN" is another cue, which gives you a drifting feeling, never knowing to what purpose. Even unrecognizable sounds work as motifs, they recur through the score and become familiar, blossoming darkly at the end.

Milan, is always in there trying to quench the thirst of the avid "movie-music collector", this score is simply captivating to the listener...a great addition to your ever growing collection!

3 out of 5 stars not the best.......2002-06-12

This has some good selections but really doesn't have the best because it is so subjective. i certainly got bored with many of the pieces they selected in the group, while others had my foot stomping. i recommend getting the original stuff anyways.

5 out of 5 stars "must have compilation for film buffs".......2000-11-24

Milan Records celebrates the history of popular cinema with a 2-CD anthology of the music that drove the most affectionately remembered films of the modern cinematic era. These indelible musical impressions come courtesy of the most renowned film score composers of our time - Maurice Jarre, Max Steiner, Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Ennio Morricone, Bernard Herrmann, Randy Edelman and Henry Mancini.

Released into two general categories, the album presents moments from films of "Love, Passion & Comedy", on disc one - gives us the most powerful classic love themes from "WEST SIDE STORY", "DR. ZHIVAGO" and "LOVE STORY", and features newer classics from "TITANIC", "THE TRUMAN SHOW", "UNCHAINED MELODY" and on the lighter side "A FISH CALLED WANDA", "BENNY & JOON" and one of the most familiar themes ever written "THE PINK PANTHER" from legendary icon Henry Mancini.

On disc two "ACTION, ADVENTURE & SUSPENSE", includes themes from Alfred Hitchcock's landmark films "NORTH BY NORTHWEST" and the absolutely unforgettable "PSYCHO" finale...then the greatest action hero of all time leads off with Monty Norman's "JAMES BOND THEME", and action cues from "BACKDRAFT" and "SPEED"...next up the Academy Award winning theme from "THE LAST EMPEROR" and "GETTYSBURG" main title, one of the best-selling score CD's of all time.

A must have for "movie-music" collectors and film buffs, including music lovers and anyone who really enjoys a little nostalgia now and then...thank you Milan for this trip down memory lane and the amazing legacy of 20th Century Cinema!
