Holes [Soundtrack]

holes [soundtrack]

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The movie is about holes--specifically, a bunch of kids forced to dig them. Something else worth digging is the film's soundtrack. Few of the 15 ultra-accessible songs miss their mark. Big-name artists Shaggy, Moby, and the Eels keep the kids hopping, while a heap of lesser-known acts also make impressive contributions, most notably Pepe Deluxe (the from-Mars-sounding "Everybody Pass Me By") and the D-tent Boys (the irresistibly fun "Dig It"). It wouldn't be a Disney soundtrack without a wannabe or two, and for that we have a sprinkling of flimsy rock and country-folk. Still, title aside, here's a soundtrack stitched tight enough to avoid gaps in the fan base. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars DIG IT!.......2007-01-07

5 out of 5 stars I "Dig It!".......2005-12-09

This is a fantastic CD!!!! If you loved the book and movie, you absolutely must buy this CD!!! This is a great CD!!! For the country lovers there's "I Will Survive" and "I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday." Not entirely sure what that means, but great song none-the-less. For rock lovers we have "Don't Give Up" and "Eyes Down" by the Eels. Weird name, fantastic song. I personally love "Dig It" by the D-Tent Boys. The fact that they wrote this song theirselves gives it a little more quality. If you are with that special someone and you want to listen to music, I recommend "I'm Just Like You." Some songs like "Honey" got on my nerves, because it was a little too repetitive. I know he wants to get with his honey "sometimes." Now will he please just shut up!!! Also there is a special track "If Only." Moms, if you have a problem getting your little one to go to sleep, I recommend you play this lullaby-like song for them. All-in-all, this is one of my favorite soundtracks. So what are you waiting for? Get off your lazy butt and GO BUY IT!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack!.......2005-05-27

Although some of the reviews dislike track #4, its one of the reasons i looked for this CD, i like the first track also! all the music in the movie is good regardless of genre. I watched the movie one night cuz i wanted to hear track 1 and 4. i'm not a kid but i did enjoy the movie and the sound track!

5 out of 5 stars Holes: A Review.......2004-10-26

I thoroughly enjoyed this CD, the Holes soundtrack, to the point at which I actually experienced severe physical pain because of its excellence. Okay, that may be an exaggeration, but its still a really great CD. The tracks of the aforementioned CD are as follows:

1. Dig It - Pretty good, as it has the qualities that most rap songs nowadays lack (a refrain, a good rhythym, English lyrics...)
2. Keepin' It Real - Not to bad, if you like Shaggy. I personally am annoyed by his voice when he sings, but I won't hold that against him in this song, because its good.
3. Mighty Fine Blues - This song is just plain good in all aspects.
4. Honey - It's a pretty good song, if you can handle the monotony of repetition. But I like it notwithstanding.
5. I'm Gonna Be a Wheel Someday - Does anyone know what that means? Oh well... not a bad song... so-so.
6. Just Like You - I must say, it's not anything I'd listen to; I almost prefer beating my head with a hammer and listening to the ringing that ensues... but its fitting for the part of the movie it represents, and I respect that.
7. Everybody Pass Me By - Includes what may quite possibly be the best guitar solo I have ever heard... in that style anyway. As of yet, I still cannot figure out what all of the lyrics are, which is frustrating, considering there are only about 15 words.
8. I Will Survive - I'm going to have to go against what everyone else says and say that I don't like this one so much... but only because... well, I don't know. It really isn't a bad song, though; I'm just particular in my tastes, I guess.
9. Shake 'Em On Down - A pretty good song, if I do say so myself... and I do.
10. Don't Give Up - An okay song
11. Happy Dayz - I haven't listened to this particular song in a while, and therefore don't remember it, but I bet it's good!
12. Let's Make a Better World - Genuine soul music! I liked its style.
13. If Only - Not bad, I guess.
14. Eyes Down - A good song, to say the least.
15. Down to the Valley - One of those songs lacking many lyrics, but nonetheless (I think that's all one word) a great song.
All in all, this is one heck of a CD. It's got that Western feel, but NOT country, has plenty of popular artists, as well as a few I've never heard of, and is fun for the whole family! Really; it's not even my CD, it's my Dad's. You'll never find another CD like it! ...Except maybe an unlicensed knock-off, or another copy of the CD, or... something... Enjoy it!

If the idea behind director John Beck's nautical frightfest isn't exactly new--long-lost ship is mysteriously found floating at sea--the filmmaker invests it with a smart sense of style and tension that lifts it above its horror-exploitation roots. The brooding orchestral score from composer John Frizzell (13 Ghosts, Beautiful, Alien Resurrection) conjures up the appropriate atmosphere of foreboding and unease, while largely steering clear of the genre's inherent cheese quotient. Indeed, the composer invokes an often surprising sense of emotional strain and weariness, injecting some welcome human dimensions amid the expected shrieking strings and rumbling brass and percussion. While certain genre clichés are paid heed, Frizzell's efforts here often as not eschew orchestral thunder for more subtle, intimate music that lifts the film from mere floating haunted-house gambit into something more emotionally gripping. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars My Little Box Rocks.......2005-02-13

The great song from the "flashback scene" in the movie, is track 23, My Little Box. Simply a must-have song. Dark and dry, the lyrics accompany the hollow and spooky beat. "I live safe inside my cell, in the darkness that surrounds me, I see my own special hell. Compliment my suffering, feeling warm inside this pain, four walls comin' down on me, are coming down again."
