Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer has created a blood-pumping dramatic score for Hannibal that pulses with Wagnerian intensity. Sir Anthony Hopkins's monologue on three tracks adds a dimension of hair-raising eeriness to the already deeply affecting and suspenseful instrumental backing. (Just hearing him first enunciate on the opener "Dear Clarice" sets up the Pavlovian sense of dread.) Hopkins's Hannibal Lecter is still on the prowl 7 years after FBI agent Clarice Starling first interviewed the criminally insane doctor (and 10 years since The Silence of the Lambs hit the theaters). This sense of uneasiness is captured alternately by deep, sustained notes and the rapid attack of a full-throttle orchestra. Whether it's the dark, tonal clusters of "Firenze Di Notte"; the desperate, descending notes that punctuate "Virtue"; or the chorale solemnity of the 10-minute "Let My Home Be My Gallows," the intent to horrify never waivers. --Rob O'Connor

5 out of 5 stars HANNIBAL: A DARK SOUNDTRACK.......2007-04-19

Well I finally got a hold of the HANNIBAL soundtrack...and I gotta tell you...WOW. I knew logging onto Amazon that I had really enjoyed the film and I figured, "well since the movie was this great, the soundtrack must be pretty sweet"...I ended up falling in love with the music. It's very dark, yes, but what else is to be expected with Hannibal Lecter? Music about rainbows and laughter? I think not. But besides that, let me go on. This has to be one of the best soundtracks I've owned, and I encourage all Zimmer/Hannibal/Silence fans to own it...seriously

4 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack.......2007-01-10

I bought this CD for one song in particular but now i like the whole CD.

5 out of 5 stars A Hauntingly Beautiful Score.......2006-07-14

As always, Zimmer has created a moody, atmospheric, and yes, beauitul score. The music is creepy, in a stunning and wonderful way, giving depth to scenes even of horror and carnage. This darkly evocative score brings to mind the film's elegant and well-done scenes. I especially loved "Avarice" a beautiful piece featuring many strings and bells, and "Firenze di Notte" or Florence of Night, in which you can imagine a fast and terrifying chase through the dark, winding streets of the beautiful city. Also lovely were "Virtue," "The Burning Heart," and "Vide Cor Meum," although I agree with several other reviewers that the Tata and loud orchestral crash at the end is unnecessary.
Overall, this score is well-written, and has a very frightening quality about it, which is part of the way in which it derives its great beauty.

5 out of 5 stars Notes on the HANNIBAL Soundtrack.......2005-10-21

(from Sierra Vista AZ)
People who are understandably reluctant to go to a film like HANNIBAL might assume that they wouldn't like the music either. But films that deal with serial killers often have sublime music. For example, COPYCAT with Sigourney Weaver & Holly Hunter, features Gabriel Faure's "Im Paradisum"("in Heaven") from his REQUIEM which plays while forensic photos of victims are examined.HANNIBAL's music is similarly sublime & beautiful, & intelligently used.Because this film concerns, among other things, unrequited love in which the lover loves from afar, it is thematically appropriate that Patrick Cassidy's music "Vide cor meum" ("see my heart") is used since its words are those of the great Italian Renaissance poet, Dante Alighieri, who loved his muse, Beatrice, from afar. This music is transcendent & indescribably beautiful. The words from Dante's work, LA VITA NUOVA ("my new life")are discussed in the film by Dr. Lechter played by Sir Anthony Hopkins.

5 out of 5 stars The best soundtrack I have heard.......2005-09-05

Most soundtracks for a movie are at most disappointing. This one is rather the opposite. It is the best soundtrack I have ever heard and it echoes the beauty of the movie.
The last song on the CD makes it worth the buy. But, the other songs reinforce the worth this CD has.
It brings out the true emotions of the movie. The speaking parts of Anthony Hopkins are gorgeous just in their own right. I enjoy this whole CD and find it a very lasting and valuable CD to add to any collection of music.
