5 out of 5 stars Amazing........2007-07-12

one of my favorite soundtracks and movies. the music is enchanting and takes you to a place far away from the worries of this world. it is filled with love, hope, and the mysteries of imagination. buy this album and experience the power of music.

5 out of 5 stars This Just Soars.......2007-04-08

It's no surprise that Disney is now using this recording's main theme to market its theme parks, because there has rarely been music that so gorgeously suggests the rapture of flight as a child imagines it. The entire score is by turns charming and exciting, and stands well on its own (it's terrific for long road trips, with its movement and color). A wonderful score to a wonderful film....

3 out of 5 stars Good instruments sound affect........2007-01-10

Me and my daughter enjoy the cd, but the only thing was wrong i assume the cd was going to sing word instead of instrument maybe the cd will be available soon. I'm preparing the song through out the peterpan movie.

5 out of 5 stars Soaring score.......2007-01-06

I saw this movie when it came out. Immediately afterward, I went to the store to get it--had to wait three weeks for it to come in, but it was totally worth it. I listened to nothing but this and the Wicked soundtrack for months. The music is so beautiful and moving--I still listen to it all the time because it's both soothing and uplifting. And it has definitely appeared on the recent Disney commercials! I was so excited when I heard it. :)

5 out of 5 stars most underrated movie.......2006-12-26

Not only was this the most underrated movie of the year, but the soundtrack is now being used by Disney for their theme park commercials (and it wasnt even a Disney movie, it was Universal/ Columbia no less)

I love the music to Disney's Peter Pan! The one that tugs at the heart the most for me would have to be "The Second Star to the Right." The harmonies and the certain style of the music just gets me teary. The rest of the songs are quite enjoyable too!

Mary Martin created Broadway's most famous "trousers" role in the original 1954 cast of Peter Pan, but former Olympic gymnast Cathy Rigby has proven to be a worthy successor. She earned a Tony nomination for the 1991 revival, has toured extensively, and starred in the 2000 video production. While the classic J.M. Barrie story of the boy who wouldn't grow up has seen many musical treatments (including Leonard Bernstein in 1950 and Disney in 1953), this version is probably the best known, with such Moose Charlap-Carolyn Leigh songs as "I Gotta Crow," "Tender Shepherd," "I'm Flying," and "I Won't Grow Up," plus some additional material by Jule Styne and Betty Comden and Adolph Green (most notably "Neverland"). It's a charming family show well represented in this 1997 recording featuring Rigby along with Elisa Sagardia (Wendy) and Paul Shoeffler (Hook). --David Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars Peter Pan Flying High.......2006-03-03

My daughter is playing Wendy in a community youth theater production of Peter Pan. She has been singing along with the CD ever since we received it in the mail. Wonderful sound quality.

5 out of 5 stars Great revival to the Original .......2005-03-14

Ever since I saw Cathy Rigby play Peter Pan in the 1997 production I was like Holy crap she plays this role very well!
The production on this CD is very well done! Unlike Mary Martin's CD! Mary Martin's CD is the worst Peter Pan CD I've ever heard! Cathy Rigby on the other hand she beats Mary Martin's production by a huge landslide! They also add parts of the play into the CD which makes the CD even more exciting! I saw Cathy Rigby on her final tour of Peter Pan and she was so amazing! Cathy Rigby Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Cathy Rigby Is Peter Pan.......2004-12-20

Cathy Rigby is a very good Peter Pan. Her recording surpasses Mary Martin's by a landslide! Her voice is very good on this recording. She also has a DVD out for her production of Peter Pan. Cathy Rigby Rules

5 out of 5 stars excellent studio recording of PETER PAN.......2004-01-21

This 1997 studio cast album of PETER PAN is a fine testament to this magical musical. Cathy Rigby, star of various Broadway runs and national tours of the show, gives thrilling voice to the title character, and is joined by a first-rate supporting cast.

Paul Schoeffler, also a veteran of the Broadway/national tour, is a great Captain Hook, especially during "Hook's Waltz" and "Hook's Tango". Traditionally, he also portrays the bombastic Mr Darling.

Elisa Sagardia is, like Rigby and Schoeffler, reprising her role of Wendy from the Broadway/national tour. She gives a lovely weight to "Tender Shepherd" and "Distant Melody". She also has a great voice.

Rounding out the cast are Susan Lamontagne as Tiger Lily, Lee Honey-Jones as John, Myles Anderson as Michael, Helen Hobson as Mrs Darling, Anne McVey as Liza, Susan Dale as Jane, Julian Forsythe as Smee and Jenny Agutter as the Narrator. [CDJAY 1280]

    5 out of 5 stars A great revival.......2000-12-31

Forty some ye3ars ago I saw Peter Pan on its premier performance on television. I bought the record with Mary Martin and I have loved it. I have to say that the Cathy Rigby recording is even better. Cathy beings a youthful presence in her songs. The recording itself is technologically better. The recording includes bits from the play not on the original. And the whole recoding seems to have a life the original does not have. "I'm Flying" is exhilerating. "Once Upon a Time Long Ago" has a more haunting ache. The timing of the songs is different, but not worse than the original. Ms. Rigby is not trying to copy Ms. Martin. Which means for Peter Pan lovers there are two distinctive performances to appreciate. I wish I could see Ms. Rigby on stage. I saw Sandy Duncan some years ago and she was good. This is a great recording.

5 out of 5 stars Something to Crow About!.......2001-04-21

I was so pleased to find this compilation of Peter Pan songs. Not only do they include the songs from the classic 1954 Mary Martin Broadway/TV versions, but also the cut Broadway versions by Leonard Bernstein and little known gems from the 1976 TV version and the film "Hook." It's very clear that producer Bruce Kimmel researched all versions of Peter Pan, in order to bring the best of author James M. Barrie's vision of Peter Pan.

The performances are splendid, particularly John Freeman as Captain Hook. When Mr. Freeman annouces that he "is the best villian of all time" in a wonderfully oily voice, he makes the listener (almost) forget Cyril Richard's classic performance as Captian Hook. (A nice added touch is the pirates' gruff asides and their offkey band.) Likewise, Alet Oury's "I Gotta Crow," Susan Egan"s "You can Fly/I'm Flying," and Lindsay Ridgeway's "I Won't Grow Up" capture Peter Pan's enthusiam and pride. The wistfulness of the story is poignantly portrayed in Michelle Nicastro's "Never Never Land," Kristine Fraelich's "Tender Shephard/Once Upon a Bedtime," and Liz Larson's "It's What You Believe In."

This collection also brings out the darker side of the Peter Pan myth. During the 1970's, the Peter Pan Syndrome was born: Peter Pan was representative of all immature men who refused to grow up, and Wendy was the enabler who took over Peter Pan's responsibility as head of the household of the Lost Boys. When Tammy Minoff expresses Wendy's obsessive devotion in "Peter, Peter", the listener realizes that Peter Pan icon was based on a fully developed character with good and bad sides.

One minor complaint: I was disappointed the song "Oh My Mysterious Lady" that Mary Martin and Cyril Richard did so charmingly was not included. One would love to hear what John Freeman as Captain Hook would have done with THAT song!

But why quibble? From the beginning of the exciting overture, this CD captures the splendor and glory of Peter Pan.

Please, Mr. Kimmel, let's have more Broadway compilations. How about West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie or Guys and Dolls next?

5 out of 5 stars Jonatha Brooke's "I'll Try" is worth the purchase........2007-06-23

The soundtrack in total is better than most Disney Films...But the song "I'll Try" is a classic and the CD should be purchased to hear the singing and songwriting of Jonatha Brooke. Why this song did not get an Oscar nod, when songs of less substance do each year is perplexing. If you liked the film or did not even see it...the CD is worth the price. In addition Jonatha Brooke has many more CDs out of her music and one can instantly be hooked (no pun intended) at first listen...

5 out of 5 stars Loved It! Loved It! Loved It!.......2006-02-25

When I saw the movie, I first saw it in the movie theater and then on Disney Channel. I heard the song "I'll Try" and immediatly wanted the soundtrack. I also wanted the movie. Jonatha Brooke's song made me want to fly. :) I personally never want to grow up and this movie and song help you stay childish and care-free longer. It trully is a beautiful song and a beautiful movie.

    4 out of 5 stars Jonatha Brooke.......2003-06-19

Have to say I hated the movie, but when the song 'I'll Try' played, I immediately recognized the amazing talent of Jonatha Brooke. It is a beautiful song and if you enjoy it, I highly recommend you listen to her other stuff. She has several solo albums, all of which are good, but her best work (in my opinion)is the stuff she did as part of a Boston based duo called 'The Story'. Their album 'Grace in Gravity', is one of my all time favorites. The harmonies on the album are astounding and complex. Jonatha has a penchant for minor keys and her phrasing is unmistakeable. Superb stuff for the music enthusiast.

5 out of 5 stars Peter Pan's, finally may grow up but Cathy Rigby's voice may never grow old..........2006-01-09

I just recently saw Cathy Rigby in NYC at MSG, (Madison Square Garden) just right before Christmas, she did great as always. Cathy sounded the way she always has and will. This soundtrack has all the same songs with in her last tour. I happened to like this version better then Marry Martains because it just brings out the story better and you can see the stage light up in your mind so well, that it just brings back childhood memories for adults and kids. I also met Cathy Rigby, when I was little, and I met her again for a second last time at MSG. she still looks great for her age. As long as you have this CD, you will be able to go back to NeverLand anytime you want. This is her final year for good. Then she will retire and hang up her tights for her last curtain call. I just hope she finds the right person to continue her Peter Pan legacy. Maybe a boy's voice as peter pan would maybe be in the making for a new soundtrack , thats if it ever happens lol... So don't pass this by because Cathy Rigby will let your heart fly. As you listen to this Magical Soundtrack you will want to soar into the night sky. This is the best since Peter Pan begain at the Winter Garden theartre. Now that the tour is almost over, get this now before its gone!... Good luck to the rest of the Peter Pan Gang, on a job well done, Steve...

I grew up watching Mary Martin play Peter Pan, and was quite used to it by the time I was 14. Then, I saw Cathy Rigby in "Peter Pan" on A&E one night (my mom made us watch!). It was a breathtaking expreiance for me. I started watching the DVD of the production over and over, until I fell absolutly in love with Peter, Wendy, Captain Hook, Tiger Lily and the others. In 2004, my mom took me and my sister to see Cathy Rigby's final tour in Los Angeles on closing night. We bought the soundtrack to the 1997 soundtrack then. I have listened to it many times, and I still love it. Now, the 2000 version is out and I have listened to that as well. I never get old of listening to Cathy Rigby, and Elisa Sagardia's voices. I highly reccomend this soundtrack to any Peter Pan fan!!

I SAW THIS MOVIE 'CAUSE I WAS INTERESTED TO SEE CATHY RIGBY, "WHO WAS BORN TO PLAY PETER PAN". I HATED IT A LOT. SO, NOW I AM IN A HIGH SCHOOL PRODUCTION OF PETER PAN, AND I HAPPEND TO SEE THE MARY MARTIN VERSION, AND THE MARY MARTAIN CD. I LOVED IT! THEN I REALIZED THAT 'PETER PAN' IS NOT A BAD MUSICAL AT ALL. CATHY RIGBY AND THE "CREW" WERE MAKING IT BAD. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THEY THINK CATHY RIGBY IS THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD. DON'T BELIEVE THEM. SHE ISN'T. SHE SOUNDED LIKE SHE WAS A STUIPED LITTLE BRAT THAT JUST WANTED TO ROT THE REST OF HIS [HER] TIME JUST SITTING IN A DARK CORNER CARVING FORKS WHILE ON THE OTHER HAND, MARY MARTAIN SOUNDS ALL CHEERFUL, FUN, AND REAL. I RECCOMEND MARY MARTAIN'S VIDEO AND CD. I SAY NO MORE.

5 out of 5 stars Love Peter Pan!.......2003-12-24

Ever since I was really little I have always loved Peter Pan! Then I learned there were more versions than just the Disney Version! I found this one and fell in love with it. The CD really captures the songs and the energy that the movie projected! I am now trying to find a copy of the movie so i can enjoy it again. I am only seventeen but wish that I could go off to neverland and join peter pan and the lost boys in thier adventures.

Nice music by Donald Fraser moves this classic tale along, and it's all very much in keeping with the spirit of this delightful adventure story for children. Lovely performances open each chapter of the two-disc set, including such highlights as a rapturous oboe solo played by Alan Vogel to introduce Chapter Five, "The Mermaid's Lagoon." Chapter Seven, "Peter to the Rescue," is heralded by a particularly heroic score. The music is performed by Donald Fraser and the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra. The narrator is the distinguished British stage and television actor, Derek Jacobi, who's got the kind of voice that could make great poetry out of the copy on the back of a shampoo bottle. Words and music make a winning combination here. --Gwendolyn Freed

      4 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2001-03-04

It was great to finally see a Peter Pan soundtrack that was all instrumental after searching for so long. The music is absolutely beautiful and just what I had been looking for. If you like classical music the songs are really pretty and easy listening. It was a shame that there aren't more tracks.

      5 out of 5 stars wait a day before..........2003-02-26

Listening to this cd, watch the film...enjoy it then when doing something like tidying your room, slap it on. You'll find-and i can guarentee this-that during a certain song reprisal, you'll stop and tears will come to your eyes and you'll wish you were a child again. That song is of course 'You Can Fly', it makes my cry, escpecially what happened to Bobby Driscoll.

5 out of 5 stars You Can Fly!.......2002-10-23

As a lover of Peter Pan, this CD was a wonderful addition to my collection. The songs are just wonderufl, and the instrumental music is great to hear when you've seen the movie, or even when you haven't! For anyone who is still yearning to let out their inner child, this is the CD for you!
