The Wild Thornberrys Movie [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews

Eliza Thornberry and her simian pal Darwin take on an African safari, evil poachers, and a London boarding school in Eliza's big-screen debut. That's quite a tall order for a 12-year-old--and a movie soundtrack--to handle, but like the dynamic tween, The Wild Thornberrys Movie delivers. Youssou N' Dour and Sting, Angelique Kidjo with Dave Matthews and Las Hijas del Sol contribute world music celebrations flavored with exotic percussion and soulful vocals, while Baha Men skid around on the manic pace of reggae-pop with "Accident." Paul Simon's jungle-folk-tinged "Father and Daughter" is more traditional rock, as is the Pretenders' cheerfully uptempo cover of Intaferon's 1980s obscurity "Get Out of London," and Peter Gabriel's "Animal Nation," which harkens to the throbbing guitar electronics found on his 1992 album Us. Even the teen pop-centric tracks are high quality--Nick Carter's sunny keyboard nugget and Sita's irresistible "Happy." Appealing to kids and adults both, without pandering to either crowd, The Wild Thornberrys Movie is an enjoyable delight through and through. --Annie Zaleski

Very Good Soundtrack.......2007-01-24
I have to wonder about the single star reviewer and whether they were listing to some other soundtrack. The movie was lovely and the soundtrack was equally enjoyable. I watched the movie with my daughter (now a junior in college) and listening to the soundtrack brings back many of the fellings from the film. My favorite track has to be "Dance With Us"; after all, it doesn't get much better than dancing Baboons and the Wedgie Dance at the same time. For the complete experience, you may want to look at "The Wild Thornberrys Movie: Original Motion Picture Score". The ASIN is B00008OM6P for those who are interested. It includes the actual movie opening theme, "Bridge To The Stars". Keep in mind it doesn't contain the contemporary music but rather, the film score. For my taste, it's a must have if only to round out the experience.
Not as good as Shrek.......2005-09-03
Soundtracks of PG rated movies have become an embarrassingly large part of my music collection. I adore Shrek (#1) and Holes. This one has some winners, and shares some performers with Shrek, but I'm not crazy in love with it. I bought it for the first two cuts, and they remain my favorites.
One of the Better "Kid Movie" Soundtracks........2004-09-21
As the animated series that the movie grew out of is better than many animated children's shows, so is THE WILD THORNBERRYS MOVIE Soundtrack better than most soundtracks from "kid movies". I really enjoyed the movie and I enjoy the soundtrack almost as much. I've played several of the songs from the album on the webradio show I run and have gotten positive reviews. Paul Simon's 2002 Oscar-nominated song (which should have won), "Father and Daughter", is the opening number on the album. "Father and Daughter" is a wonderful ballad that could bring a tear to the eyes of every Dad who has a daughter. Some other good songs on the album include "Iwoya" sung by Angelique Kidjo and Dave Matthews, "Happy" sung by Sita, "Monkey Man" sung by Reel Big Fish, "Accident" sung by Baha Men, and "Awa Awa" sung by Wes. The songs sung by P. Diddy, Nick Carter, and The Pretenders are, well, lame. They were probably included just for their "star" appeal. However, my favorite song out of the 14 tracks is "Animal Nation" sung by Peter Gabriel. That song is played in the movie when Liza goes back to Africa and is riding the train to meet her parents just before she sees the injured rhino. I don't know why, but that song really stuck out to me and seems to capture the mood of the movie and the album.
Great for the whole family!.......2003-09-12
I have a 4-year old son who fell in love with the Thornberry's when this film came out. One of the problems that I have with most kid films is that the music is less than desireable. I went to see this film, ready to be just as annoyed as with the others.
Nice to hear how wrong I was.
I loved the film and I loved the soundtrack just as much, if not more. The list of artists for this project is amazing: Peter Gabriel, Sting, Dave Matthews, Paul Simon, and Rusted Root just to name a few. the whole album is well produced, not one of those typical crappy "look we have kids singing kids songs and they're sooooo cute!"
ugh.
My son and I have spent hours listening to this cd in the car, wherever we go. The Peter Gabriel tune, "Animal Nation" is one of the best songs he's put together in over 10 years. A real treat for sure.
The music producers put together a smart list of artists who put out some smart, original pieces for this film. I love this compilation and I heartily recommend it to all.
Pick it up, you won't be disappointed.
Outstanding Music for Kids........2003-07-24
Good movie, great soundtrack. I write this following the third week or so that my 2 1/2 year old daughter and I have listened to songs 14, 1, & 2 in sequence at least once a day. Think World Cafe or Putamayo Music Hour for kids. It's a very ecclectic mix of styles and artists, highlighted by one of Paul Simon's strongest efforts. Roll down the windows, feel the breeze, and sing along w/ your kids.
