Rather than settle on a standard vacation to Hawaii, the two young friends in Brokedown Palace--played by Claire Danes and Kate Beckinsale--pick a more exotic locale: Bangkok. A few thrills later, the trip proves to be more than they ever imagined. The soundtrack for this messy adventure? Thankfully, it's just as exotic as the South Pacific. Filled with dreamy dance tunes with a dark underside, this disc is a compelling mix of mostly undiscovered tunes from the worlds of alt-rock and DJ cultures. Nelly Furtado's "Party's Just Begun" is a beat-driven folk tune, perfect for lovers of Ani DiFranco. Solar Twins contribute a perfect techno cover of the Clash's "Rock the Casbah" with dance beats, while Joi's "Fingers" is another East-meets-beats hybrid. Tricky with DJ Muggs, the Asian Dub Foundation, P.J. Harvey, and even Sarah Brightman round out this solid collection. David Newman's morsel of a score is equally globetrotting, with everything from conch shell atmospherics to dance floor rhythms. --Jason Verlinde

5 out of 5 stars emotive and captivating.......2006-08-17

this is a stellar compilation. fits perfectly with the movie (one of my favorites) and brings you back with every listen. highlights include the ethereal "silence" by delerium feat. sarah mclachlan, the dreamy "damaged" by plumb, and the powerful "deliver me" by sarah brightman. outstanding upbeat tracks include "party's just begun" by the then-unknown nelly furtado, and the cover of "rock the casbah" by solar twins.

thanks.

1 out of 5 stars I'd rather eat broken glass than listen to this.......2005-03-22

Oh man, where should I start. First off, thank GOD for iTunes - was able to listen before buying. ALWAYS a good idea, especially if you don't have Windows and their little sample listen-list doesn't work for you.

No, I am not a Top-40, rap-loving 20 something. In my late 30s. I like electronic and moody music as much as the next person. I have a fab selection, actually - Zero 7, Ivy, Mr. Oizo (Flat Beat), even Enya (sparingly), Portishead, Lisa Hall, Rasputina, K's Choice, Cibo Matto, The Sundays, The Beach soundtrack (WORTH it, especially Faithless), Cruel Intentions soundtrack, even Pump Up the Volume soundtrack. Etc., etc. But this stuff was very boring and average or just plain yuck. NOT worth it. 10 out of the 14 songs I ACTIVELY didn't like. Pseudo-moody, grating, cheesy 'Lite-Rock', music. I will say of the artists on this CD, Pj Harvey is my fave - but this song was a waste of her talents, imo. And is Plumb like a religious singer, or 'inspirational'? Even DJ Muggs was uninspired. And don't even get me started on that twit Nelly Furtado. Really glad I listened for myself and didn't believe all these reviews. No offense guys, but if I could give this one less than one star I would.

Verdict: Cross the street to avoid this CD. It'll be worth the walk.

5 out of 5 stars touches emotion.......2004-03-29

This CD touches every emotion in a very unique, calming and satisfying way. I bought this CD as a gift for my girlfriend (at her request?)... And I fell in love with it too. You can't not feel refreshed, head to toe, and deep within after listening. It is very well ballanced and very relaxing while deep and dark.

5 out of 5 stars Exortic and Dreamly.......2002-10-24

I saw the movie first, which was pretty good but a bit too depressing. 15 minutes into the movie, I knew I would buy the soundtrack even though I could only pick up bit and pieces of the music from the background during the film. When I finally got the CD, it blowed my mind away! The music can bring you to another world. Every song isdifferent, yet the theme is very consistent. I love it! It's great to listen to while you paint.

5 out of 5 stars I can honestly listen to this for hours and hours and hours........2002-01-03

Ok, I'm gonna try and make it quick and interesting and clear at the same time. This CD is the absalute best collection of.. soul, rock and a lil techno edge to it. When I saw the movie, I loved it no question there, I am 14 y/o. My mother knew I liked the movie and she liked the music in it and the movie itself, so as a treat she just went and bought the cd for me. I was never obsessed with the music in it, but i thought 'it's okayy i'll just listen to it' so I popped it in and just started listening and then I just kept listening and the next time I took my walkman I loistened to it and the next and the next. I'm addicted it simply brings all you emotion up and makes u just... HAPPY. I specifecly like "silence" by sarah mclaughlan its BEAUTIFUL! even though, im 14 and im suposed to be liking britney spears and n'sync and this is out of my league, i understood that this is beter than anything, i could close my eyes listen to it and fly to another world. IT happened to me, i was listening with my eyes closed and for some strange reason i started imagining those talented talented people singing in my head, it was wierd and when they stopped like EVERYTHING was completely unaudible and like the world just stoppe adlong with the song. It is really a great sensation BUY IT!
thank u
