Much like Reese Witherspoon's transplanted Southern belle character, the songs on Sweet Home Alabama have their hearts and affections rooted deep in the heart of Dixie. Sheryl Crow is almost unrecognizable yodeling and twanging on her version of Hank Williams's country-porch picker, and Shannon McNally adds grace to a smoky, strings-and-blues guitar-strewn number. Uncle Kracker's acoustic-based cut lopes like a cowpoke and Dolly Parton contributes a vintage square-dance stomper, while newcomer Jason Chain's "You Got Me," a standout, is halfway between roots rock and R.E.M.-ish jangle. Surprisingly, noted alt-country leaner Ryan Adams channels the churning, belching riffs and mannerisms of Led Zeppelin, and Jewel chooses to rock out on Lynyrd Skynyrd's classic with distortion and sultry, weathered vocals. Other deviations from country style don't fare as well--Avril Lavigne's "Falling Down" is generic alt-rock lite, the Freestylers' raucous jazz-funk scatting is misplaced, and the Calling's faithful take on "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" is strained rather than lighthearted. In the end, roughly half of Alabama's tracks qualify as true gems in the rough, although wading through the filler to find them might cause some old-fashioned country-style heartbreak of your own. --Annie Zaleski

1 out of 5 stars Where's the orginal soundtrack.......2007-05-28

I love this movie. Finally decided to invest in the soundtrack - how disappointed I was that the music on this cd has nothing to do with the ORIGINAL movie except some of the titles. My library consists of many a soundtrack and I've never heard of not having the movie artists. Based on this I have no reason to ever buy it. Isn't that what the word "original" means.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Soundtrack Blends Well with the Film.......2006-11-03

Apart from the theme song the rest of the songs blend well with the storyline and complement scenes very well.

Famous lines in the movie:
Melanie: The truth is I gave my heart away a long time ago, my whole heart, and I never really got it back.
Stella: These things don't just happen you know.

3 out of 5 stars Movie is better than sound track.......2006-03-03

Reese Witherspoon is wonderful and funny in this sweet movie,
and I think the movie is much better than the sound track.
Check out these great tracks nonetheless:
- Mine All Mine, by SHeDaisy
- Falling Down, by Avril Lavigne -- one of my favorite tunes
- Sweet Home Alabama, by Jewel

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good!.......2003-12-27

I loved the movie, but HATE country music. When someone bought me this Cd as a gift I expected it to be a bunch of hick music, but it was a great CD! It actually had all the music in the movie! The only thing I didn't like about the CD was taht Jewel sang "Sweet Home Alabama". I wanted to hear the original band play it, but this CD is definitely worth getting!

5 out of 5 stars The movie was great, but the soundtrack is even better!.......2003-12-14

wow,
i think this is the only movie soundtrack i have listened to,
that has all the songs from the movie that it should have.

from Avril Lavigne ,to Shedaisy's Mine all mine ,
and of course not to forget George Fenton's music from the beginning and the end of the movie,is simply unforgettable.

this is the kind of soundtrack that you will want to listen over and over again.

i give it 5 stars out of five!

regards

Denny

5 out of 5 stars MUSIC TO TURN THE MIND.......2004-02-06

When I first saw this movie I absolutely hated it. Maybe it was because I just didn't see myself liking a Reese Witherspoon offering; too much of a chick flick. But I've come full circle.

Part of the reason is the music. George Fenton offers a thoughful and sensitive soundtrack that captures the subtle changes that take place as Melanie rediscovers her roots, herself and the man she has unwittingly loved for a lifetime.

Terrific classical offering!

5 out of 5 stars The best soundtrack.......2003-09-25

This is one of the best soundtracks i have ever heard. All of the songs are really original with original sounding people. It is absolutely amazing, and has so many different styles of music.
no doubt, buy it!

2 out of 5 stars Not the Greatest.......2003-08-22

While watching the move I thought to myself, "I have to get this soundtrack!" While listening to the soundtrack I thought to myself, "Eh, should have waited." Avril's "Falling Down" is the best song on this CD, followed by Shannon McNally's "Now That I Know." Other than that ... eh.
