The Lizzie McGuire Movie [Enhanced] [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Are Britney and Christina over-the-hill? It's a question the effervescent talents of 15-year-old Lizzie McGuire star/teeny-pop Hilary Duff fairly begs. While the plot of this big-screen adaptation of Duff's popular Disney TV series (Lizzie and pals take a class trip to Italy; she's mistaken for a Neopolitan pop star; comic complications ensue) hearkens back to the days of Frankie and Annette--or was it Mickey and Judy?--its soundtrack is a downright sunny tribute to the power of contemporary teen pop. Anchored by Duff's performances of the bright, ear-candy single, "Why Not," and her balladeer turn as the film's faux Italian pop princess, "What Dreams Are Made Of" (each in two versions), it's a score whose bubbly energy resonates through its covers--Atomic Kittens' take on the reggae/Blondie chestnut "The Tide Is High"; Vitamin C's peppy version of the kitsch classic "Volare"; Jump 5's faithful reading of EW&F's "Shining Star"--and originals like Cooler Kids' infectious "All Around the World" and Beu Sister's "You Make Me Feel Like a Star" alike. --Jerry McCulley

The Lizzie McGuire Movie.......2007-01-16
Perfect gift for a tiny-bopper. I normally dread the idea of finding room for all the gifts after the holidays but the gift of music and movies was the way to go this year. My little girl is almost 8 and Disney is not risky with its topics.

Needless to say, if you own Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, the Cinderella Story soundtrack, and both Princess Diaries soundtracks, then you either own this one or have never seen or heard of the Lizzie McGuire movie at all! It is, of course, 100% girl-power friendy Bazooka-filled chick tunes with no signs of edginess whatsoever. Preteen girls will absolutely love it, as for any pure-pop addicted fans who gobble every soundtrack or CD with Hilary's Fluff featured. I own this CD, and I think it's generally OK. A few songs stand out much more than the others, but most of the tunes are seriously fun to listen and groove to!
1. Hilary Duff, Why Not-I seriously felt the need to memorize the lyrics to this when I first heard it, but now that I have 4 different Why Nots on my playlist from 4 different Hilary Duff or Hilary Duff featured CD's, it's just OK now. 3/5
2. Atomic Kitten, The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)-Probably in a tie with Volare for the best song on this soundtrack! A Blondie orginal, this one is cool, empowering, and makes you want to belt your heart out just like Lizzie did in the film! 5/5
3. Cooler Kids, All Around The World-An OK song. It's fun and groovy, and the band singing it isn't all that bad either. 3/5
4. Paolo & Isabella, What Dreams Are Made Of-Too poppy, blech. This one is what launched Hilary into her too-unfortunate singing career and made people actually BELIEVE she can sing. Curse the bimbos who suggested Hilary could be a pop star. 2/5
5. Jump 5, Shining Star-Kind of similar to number 3. This soundtrack features a ton of boy-girl ensembles that almost, but not quite, made it big in the pop world. 3/5
6. Volare, Vitamin C-Oh my gosh! This one rocks! It's probably one of, if not, the best song on here! It'll make you dance to the beat! 5/5
7. LMNT, Open Your Eyes (To Love)- An okay ballad. It fits the soundtrack's romantic-tinged pop melodies. 2/5
8. The Beu Sisters, You Make Me Feel Like A Star (Lizzie Mix)- A cool, once again girl power, one of those "I-wanna-be-seriously-cool" songs that will make preteen girls gasp and put their hands together and say, "I hope I can be a star! I hope I can be a star!" 4/5
9. Taylor Dayne, Supermodel-This epitomizes the girlpower theme that reigns supreme on the soundtrack and will make every girl cheer "Rock on!" Also, it gives new meaning to the phrase "You better work!" 4/5
10. Lizzie McGuire, What Dreams Are Made Of-The pop version of song number 4, haters of no-talent pop music will despise this one even worse. It's basically just a bunch of souped-up garbage that allowed Hilary Duff to make her saddening transition into the music world. And you know what? She was a success! Goes to show you how far we've fallen. 2/5
11. Dean Martin, On An Evening In Roma-An opera style Italian song that you can picture playing while driving through the streets of Italy. It fits the movie, because it was based in Rome, and suits the soundtrack's romantic theme. 2/5
12. Haylie Duff, Girl In The Band-Just when I couldn't stomach the thought of Hilary conquering the music world, her sister gets an idea and decides to cash in with a bunch of watered down, blah-blah pop songs. Whenever you see a soundtrack to a Hilary movie, she and her sister have their names and faces plastered all over the front, back, and insides of the CD and at least have a combined six or seven songs. Hilary's bad enough with her mousey-toned voice, but Haylie looks and sings like a sly weasel. Uggh, I'm dreading the soundtrack to August's Material Girls, a movie in which they BOTH costar. Anyway, back to THIS song, it so badly wants to be the cool headbanger that all the girls skip to first when they come home and crank their music, but fails oh-so-miserably in a concoction of warbles, whines, and wanna-be rock. Skip it pronto. 2/5
13. Score, Orchestral Suite From The Lizzie McGuire Movie-This is okay if you're a classical music fan. It's basically the light Italian music played frequently in the movie. 2/5
14. Hilary Duff, Why Not(McMix)-Although I gave the original Why Not a solid but not great 3 stars only because I heard it a gazillion times, I like the McMix because I haven't heard it nearly as many times as the original, and they added it on the soundtrack just so the soundtrack would have a fairly decent amount of songs on it in order to sell. All that said, it's still the perfect way to end this CD. 4/5
Very Satisfying.......2006-04-10
I would surely get this soundtrack if I were you. It's fresh and has a nice set of songs.
1. Why Not: 8/10; Shows Hilary's better days. Nice beat to it.
2. The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling): 8/10; You'll get caught humming it to yourself.
3. All Around The World: 5/10.. Very obnoxious and annoying.
4. What Dreams Are Made Of (Ballad Version): 7/10; Pretty, but gets kind of dull after the third repeat.
5. Shining Star: 8/10; Nice song, and a rocking beat!
6. Volare: 8/10; Very cute song.
7. Open Your Eyes (To Love): 7/10; has a nice slow rhythmn, but didn't really catch my interest.
8. You Make Me Feel Like A Star (Lizzie Mix): 8/10; a quick song; one of my favorites on here.
9. Supermodel: 6/10; a bit annoying to listen to.
10. What Dreams Are Made Of: 8/10; Again, shows Duff's better days. Nice song.
11. On An Evening In Roma: 7/10; It sounds nice. Very..'Romesy".
12. Girl In The Band: -1/10; I would kick this off if I could.
13. Orchestral Suite From The Lizzie McGuire Movie (Score): 9/10; Very, very smooth and breezy. It's so exciting to listen to.
14. Why Not (McMix): 6/10; Eh..-shrug-
