Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The success of the original Halloween launched six sequels, a ravenous decade's worth of imitators, and Hollywood careers for star Jamie Lee Curtis and director John Carpenter. But its budget was a micro one, and director Carpenter managed to save a few bucks by hiring the same composer he'd worked with since his days as a student and struggling indie--himself. Borrowing the staccato rhythmic devices of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells cum Exorcist score, Carpenter overlaid them with a few simple Grand Guignol-esque synth chords and created nothing less than a surprisingly enduring horror classic. Carpenter also gleaned a few hints from Italian prog-rock horror-score kings Goblin, imbuing his simple, synthesizer-based cues with an almost subconscious sense of dread, tension, and impending doom. If the music has become something of a modern cliché, that's only a testament to its continued ability to strike terror in the hearts of listeners. --Jerry McCulley

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
You needn't see the film of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to appreciate the wonder, magic, and fearful chills of J.K. Rowling's phenomenal bestseller in John Williams's outstanding score. Williams typically avoids the source material for the films he scores, but he reportedly derived great pleasure and inspiration from Rowling's first Harry Potter adventure, and created a perfect motif (fully expressed in "Hedwig's Theme") to dominate his score. It's first heard as a dreamy celesta waltz and embellished through myriad incarnations and moods, often with a sinister edge befitting the darker tones of Chris Columbus's direction. Evident are fantastical allusions to Saint-Saëns and Tchaikovsky (among others), and Williams's epic track is "Quidditch Match," a breathtaking frenzy to accompany the film's dazzling highlight. And while Williams occasionally flirts with self-plagiarism (with inevitable variants of his Hook and Star Wars themes), this is nevertheless a richly regal score that brilliantly evokes the mystery and magic of Harry Potter's world. --Jeff Shannon

Soundtrack from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Movie.......2007-05-17
We love the music from this composer (John Williams - also composed Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman) to begin with and wanted this soundtrack. It doesn't disappoint. My children are so excited about the upcoming HP movie that we play this soundtrack on the way to school each morning.
John Willams at his best!.......2007-02-20
This soundtrack is great. As you listen you can visualize what's happening just by the music! Lovely!
It too cheerful...........2007-01-25
I thnk that the soundtrack is okay. I wish some that some of the music wasn't so cheerful. Harry Potter story is not really a cheerful one. That "Prologue" piece is going to be as famos as the "star wars" theme and "superman" theme. For my I would have put a little bit of mystery in the song. I wish they would have made music called "Harry theme". I also wish John Williams would have not stoped after the 2nd one. I would have love to here his "Volemorts theme"
Not entirely up to snuff, in retrospect.......2006-12-30
It's obvious the man was still feeling out this Harry Potter thing with this first score. There is a lot of repetition, but by later soundtracks it seems to have been necessary. This soundtrack contains the original, lovely and full settings of the main Harry Potter themes.
Cousin Harry Potter.......2006-12-14
The soundtrack for all of the Harry Potter movies has been done by classical maestro and 20th century genius John Williams.
Q; Does John WIlliams make any bad music?
A: No.
Q: Does the music capture the feeling of the movie, taking you back to parts of the story sequentially?
A: Yes
Q: What are the other advantages to buying the soundtrack?
A: Aestetically, you are not competing with the visual imagery of the movie, which was technically well done and highly engaging. This provides an opportunity to explore the nuances of the musical score, without being visually distracted.
This also provides a nice day dreaming interlude for youth, who are highly structured and overprogrammed nowadays.

One man and a synthesizer.......2005-05-28
This is not a disc of the classic rock of the film, but of Carpenter's typically minimal score. It's not one of his best, but it's good for the sad Carpenter addict (like your humble reviewer).
He makes good use of a few cues, more like his earlier scores but he adds some simple textures elsewhere. Not as memorable as Halloween or Escape from New York and not as good as The Thing disc (with a lot of Morricone's leftover music) but decent enough.
With the recent Special Edition DVD they should put together a combo of the score and the rock tracks, though I wouldn't bet on it soon.
Some good tracks include the simple, driving cue heard when Christine runs down the despicable Moochie Wells, and also when Christine chases the rest of the 20-something high school delinquents in the film. Not the best Carpenter flick, far from his worst, that's about where the score is. Definitely Carpenter, but could have used fatter, fuzzier synths.
AWESOME!.......2004-12-21
For anyone who LOVES this movie, listening to the soundtrack will totally take you back....and make you love your car more than anything!! Poor Christine only loved Arnie the only way she knew how...she killed for him, too! Hey, jealous girls, you know what I'm talking about. The first time EVER I've been able to relate to a CAR. LOVED IT!
Another Carpenter classic.......2004-11-02
John Carpenter's Christine is one of the best soundtracks available. The music is errie and atmospheric, still provides some good jolts and jumps. All of the oldies songs are not here but so what! Carpenter's score is essintle for any collection, the only problem with the cd is it's too short, but hey at least it's available. Buy this now , perfect for driving around at night.
Yes, This Is The SCORE Album.......2003-07-01
An amazing number of people have shunned this album simply because it is not the soundtrack containing the classic oldies songs from the film. That is no reason to give this excellent album a one star rating. The original soundtrack album was released in 1983 on Motown Records and just never made the cut when things were being changed over to CD in 1985. Copies of that LP can be found frequently on online auctions. But for those who appreciate a good film score or John Carpenter's minimalist synth music in general, this score album released by Varese Sarabande is worth every cent. Unlike many score albums, the whole thing hangs together. When the music isn't outright scary, it's unforgetably haunting and surprisingly touching. There is a tone of tragedy here that I would never have expected the score to touch on. As always, Carpenter throws very little into the pot and pours out plenty. 100% atmosphere.
Carpenter's smallest score........2001-10-09
The score for Christine, unreleased for years, is finally available and well worth the wait. Largely felt more than heard in the film, the score shows Carpenter's gift for building the right mood with as little music as possible. It's also the first of his themeless mood scores. Highly recommended to Carpenter buffs.

Great product for the Halloween night. Only the best songs of the best movies are included. This Cdd includes many of the songs that scare all of us when watching the classics.
Great Soundtrack!.......2006-06-23
I am amazed to own Halloween: 20th Anniversary Soundtrack. If you are a die hard fan for Halloween merchandise then this is a must have soundtrack. If only they put dialogue for the "Terror In The Closet" scene that would be awesome!!!!! Ever since they killed off Laurie in Halloween Resurrection it hasn't been the same. Look out for Halloween: The Awakening (a fan soundtrack I made!)

Halloween 20th Anniversary???.......2006-01-01
The Halloween 20th Anniversary soundtrack kinda sucks!!!! Because the tracks 10: The Haunted House and Track 16 are the same tracks but played longer!!! You shouldn't waste your money on this crap!!!!
Another Superior Release!.......2005-11-01
I bought the first "Halloween" soundtrack and I was amazingly thrilled to own it. Now I bought the 20th Anniversary Edition and I think it is awesome! This is the version used in the film because I recognized the Halloween Theme just as I remembered in the movie. But if you listen to the Halloween Theme on the original release, you will see that it has some different synthesizers in the background than this one, but it is still an amazing have. Buy this CD; it is great for riding around in the Fall.

A Classic Among Movie Scores........2007-03-12
I absolutely loved the soundtrack the first time I had gotten it. The pounding of the percussions on 'The Shape Stalks' gives the scene it played on so much more emotion and suspense. I finally understood what John Carpenter has spoken about on interviews about "Halloween". Watching the movie and listening to that one particular part of the score made me understand how important the score is to the movie. Because of "Halloween" I have listened and purchased many other scores, not just horror, but anything that sounds attractive.
Best in my Collection!.......2005-10-27
I love to collect all sorts of scary and suspense film scores and this one is the top in my collection. Like I said before I collect film score cd's. The others i enjoy listening to are the following:
*The Amityville Horror by Lalo Scifrin
*The Exorcist by Various composers
*Psycho by Bernard Herrmann
*Cape Fear by Bernard Herrmann/Elmer Bernstein
*The Others by Alejandro Amenabar
*What Lies Beneath by Alan Silvestri
*Halloween (of course) by John Carpenter
If you enjoy hearing scary and suspense music that is written for films, be sure to check "Halloween" out, plus all of the other cd's that I listed above. You won't be disappointed!
Original.......2005-04-05
What a great Cd this is. One of the best and most favorite soundtracks you will find on sale anywhere. IT is original, tasteful, and gives you a sense of dred and fills you with fear.
Really Really Great Soundtrack!!!!.......2005-03-14
Now Just to let you guys know that this CD does have the HalloweeN themes from the first one. But They are all off Key. and timings are wrong. Alan Howarth Said it on Halloweenmovies.com interview that it was and that is why their is a 20 ann. Soundtrack to the first one. all in all this is the Original Soundtrack to the first film and a must for all HalloweeN Fans. but if you want the right sound to the film I would get the HalloweeN 20 Ann.Soundtrack
#1 Scariest CD.......2004-09-28
This is a very nice and scary cd. The best song on the cd is the main theme and is very scary too. It is very similar to the Exorcist(tubular bells)song but alot scarier. If you want the original soundtrack this is it. Dont get a cd with any new versions of the Halloween theme because the original is the best. Other songs that are good are Lauries theme, Myer's house, and the shape stalks.

Fine work by Howarth.......2006-08-05
When John Carpenter departed the Halloween film franchise after making Halloween 3, Alan Howarth ably stepped into the role of composer. The now-legendary 'Michael Myers Theme' - the 3 piano chords - is featured here, along with dark, sinister tones that lend well to the atmosphere of the movie. From the ominous low synethesizer tones as an ambulance makes its away through a thunderstorm to the Ridgemont Federal Sanitarium - Myers' home for 10 years - to the low piano chords as Myers walks up the stairs slowly & menacingly, coming after Jamie & Rachel, this soundtrack has put together a chilling collection of Carpenter's classic work for the first two as well as Howarth's own original work. A must have for any collector of horror soundtracks or soundtracks in general.

Since this is a sequel's CD I do think it is a very well orginized Cd and well put together. ALthough we all have heard the theme song of Halloween. It still doesn't get old through 4 movies
"Alan Howarth had in mind what to do and did it well.".......2005-03-14
When John Carpenter & Alan Howarth said good-bye for HalloweeN III. Alan took it all on his own and started on HalloweeN 4. and Man did it hit. the music still gives me chills when I first hear it when the movie starts. I have been a fan of the Halloween films For 15 years and it don't really scare me anymore but it still gives you that o god it's time again for Michael to kill and where is He? kinda feeling. I would say buy this product now because last year it just went out of Print and this could be you last chance for a long time!!!!
Among one of Howarth's best scores........2004-04-01
Alan Howarth, long-time musical collaborator with John Carpernter, acted as the sole composer for this score. While retaining much of the thematic continuity intrinsic to the Halloween scores of the past, Howarth presents new and interesting elements to these compositions.
For instance, the first track begins with a soft variation on Carpenter's traditional melody. However, he submerges this classic theme within a dense amalgam of ghostly sounds. Already, a mysterious ambiance is established, leaving listeners uncertain of where this score will take them. Given the fact that ten years have elapsed since the original Halloween, this uncertainty is a very appropriate way to begin. The first track acts as a segue for the re-introduction of Carpenter's famous theme, which Howarth executes with renewed vitality. Once the den of haunting sounds abates and the familiar pulsing melody of Halloween commences, listeners will feel their hearts racing.
Howarth successfully re-invents the music of Halloween. No doubt, this score represents a milestone in the Halloween franchise and deserves a place on every fan's CD rack.

Howarth delivers the goods and more!.......2005-03-31
In Halloween 4, Howarth took an experimental approach to Carpenter's original score. The overall result was a glorious success. Heavily layered with dense and atmospheric ambiences, Howarth's variations on Carpenter's classic themes were inventive. The score to Halloween 5 continues this tradition.
However, Howarth does not simply recycle the classic themes. Instead, he introduces several of his own themes, each one designed to reflect narrative elements of the film. For instance, the mysterious stranger who appears frequently throughout the movie is represented by an eerie melody within a dark and sinister soundscape. Another example is the inhuman chanting used by Howarth to highlight the introduction of the esoteric Thorn symbol. There are several melodic threads that continue to resurface throughout the score, which illustrate Howarth's outstanding sense of thematic continuity.
Howarth is truly a genius and there could have been no better musician to inherit Carpenter's score. The score of Halloween 5 vividly bears out this contention.
HalloweeN 5 was A really Creepy Movie and A great Score also.......2005-03-14
This Soundtrack Has just what some fans are looking for. the lyric songs in the movie and also the whole score to the film. The score is Really Creepy and is in the perfect order it was played in the movie almost. again for the 4 time and not the Last Alan Howarth does it again and I have to say it is Vary good. so go out and get a copy now while you still can.
One of the best halloween soundtracks!!!.......2003-12-26
This is one of the best soundtracks in the Halloween series. The first 5 songs are 80s hits, but they are an extra. I personally love Romeo, Romeo, and Sporting Woman. Next, are the actual Halloween songs. The Halloween theme is excellent, as it is much darker and more spooky. The other songs are really scary, and I should warn you not to listen to this while you are alone in your home at night!!!!
Halloween 5 Soundtrack.......2003-06-15
The CD is great. First track "Romeo, Romeo" is the only good one of the other 4. All other tracks are also great, one of the best halloween soundtracks, too bad not the same for the actual movie.
AN INCREDIBLY GOOD CD! REALLY SCARY SONGS!.......2002-01-24
This is one of the best Halloween movie soundtracks ever! Alan Howarth is at his best again in this really creepy CD. The first 5 songs on the CD not really needed. They are all 80's rock songs. They okay and Romeo, Romeo performed by Becca is a pretty cool song. Songs 6 through 16 are much better though. All of the songs have something different to them, unlike the other Halloween soundtracks. I didn't really like the movie of Halloween 5. It was really bloody and the plot was weak with things that didn't need to happen, but the CD is great. It disappionts me that such great music on this CD was wasted on an awful movie. Every other Halloween movie is okay, but I think it is okay to miss Halloween 5. All Halloween fans should buy this soundtrack, along with anyone who just likes plain scary music. Fans of 80's music will probably also like this CD. Songs 6 - 16 on the CD are really creepy and scary and are great for Halloween parties. Howarth does a great job at doing the Halloween theme, in this CD called Halloween 5/The Revenge. I first listened to this CD at night and every sound I heard made me jump. This CD will make you feel that Michael Myers (the killer from the Halloween movies) is in the house with you! The songs never get boring and is a good reccomendation for scary music. I think it is the best Halloween soundtrack of them all. Considering that I like all the soundtracks, it was a very hard choice, but I really loved the music. I strongly urge you to buy the CD!

Here is the deal with the 6th Soundtrack .......2005-03-14
as most of you know their is a whole different kind of HalloweeN 6 out their called the "Producers cut" and it is totally different then the one that hit theatres and home video. but you can't get it anywhere. after Donald Pleasance Died in making HalloweeN: the Curse of Michael Myers. the movie changed almost completely with a new Beginning and Different plot and a way different ending and also the Score was completely different. now most of the Music in the HalloweeN: The Curse Of Michael Myers soundtrack is from the Producers cut of the film. And not even heard in the theatrical Release but still has some from the theatrical version. so if you want to hear some of the creepy music that was supposed to be then I say get this Soundtrack today!
Howarth continues to experiment........2004-04-01
As was the case with the scores to Halloween 4 & 5, Howarth continues to experiment with variations on Carpenter's theme. What is particularly interesting about this soundtrack is that some of the compositions never made it to the big screen. Instead, a few were actually featured on the Producer's Cut, an alternate version of the film that has become an underground classic. The inclusion of these alternate tracks provides one with a fragmentary impression of the movie's originally intended trajectory (which is certainly more desirable than the direction of the incoherent theatrical release).
Highlights of this score include the second track, which introduces a new theme to the musical milieu of Halloween. This new theme is inextricably linked to the Order of the Thorn (a Druidic cult responsible for Michael Myers' dreaded curse). It is reiterated later in the eighth track following a frenetic version of Carpenter's traditional "Shape Stalking" music. This new theme augments the traditional Halloween compositions beautifully and brings an extra dimension to the film series.
Howarth is an imaginative composer and this soundtrack showcases his inventive musicianship. It is an absolute shame that most of this music did not even make into the theatrical release.
One of the best soundtracks in the Halloween series.......2004-02-24
This cd is amazing!!! It has all the right elements, and the Halloween theme sounds great. Also, the use of the Halloween theme is amazing, as it used more than once, but not too much. The other songs sound great, as you can picture the scenes in your head as you listen to the songs. This is an absolute must for any Halloween fan!!!
Not bad at all..........2002-12-12
- Alan Howarth's last Halloween score wasent as bad as people want it to be. First you listen trough the entire CD, then you find the best tracks (No.1 was really good)... And after you've sorted out the tracks from good and bad, you copy thosse tracks to a own CD (CD-recorder and volume disscounts are availble), and you enjoy them...
Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers Soundtrack *AWESOME*.......2002-06-14
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDTRACKS IN THE WHOLE SERIES! I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF HALLOWEEN FOR A FEW YEARS AND I HAVE ALL OF THE SOUNDTRACKS. THIS ONE IS RATED #2 ON MY LIST, JUST BELOW THE ORIGINAL SCORE. THE GUITAR AND DRUMS MAKE THIS SCORE A VERY EERIE BAGFUL OF TREATS! I RECCOMEND THE TRACKS: JAMIE'S ESCAPE, WATCHING MOM, IT'S RAINING RED, AND OPERATING ROOM. BUY THIS CD RIGHT NOW! IT IS SO AWESOME!

Carpenter's best score........2005-02-11
I agree with the enthusiasm of the other reviewers here, and I think that this is EASILY Carpenter's best score. I normally don't even like synth music, but this creepy blend of Vangelis and Tangerine Dream at their most dark and moody sticks with you long after the (ridiculous, unfortunately) movie is over.
Caveat emptor: It's a really good OST, but it's not worth 60 or 70 bucks (esp. for one that's not even in mint condition, like the one that's for sale at the time I'm writing this). Don't allow yourself to be gouged by some...uh...let's just say, "opportunist," offering this for some exorbitant price on the Marketplace.
One of Carpenters Best.......2004-11-29
Halloween III: Season Of The Witch, the soundtrack and the movie are vary vary good. I hear a lot of people say, "if they didn't call it Halloween it would have done better. Well I have been a Halloween fan for going on 15 years & to tell you the truth I never liked Halloween 3. Because I never gave it a chance. When I did I still didn't like it but after I bought it I did start to like it and to be honest I love Halloween 3 a lot now. It gives you a little break from Michael and a chance at something new and the music I think is what makes it good. The score is vary rare to find I have every DvD every VHS and all but Halloween three's soundtrack. But I just won it on ebay for $86.00 dollars. And I was at no stop till I got it. I tell you what get this soundtrack. It is one of Carpenters & Howarth's best. You won't be disappointed. I promise. Get yours now because they go for $ Hundreds of dollars and Amazon has them for a cheaper price then what I paid. So get yours today
The best of Carpenter's Halloween scores.......2004-11-02
That's right i said it, Halloween 3 is John Carpenter's best score he did for the halloween films. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the others but, Carpenter shows more depth and a musical genius here. The electronic score is errie and atmospheric, you can feel a real sense of un-easyness while listening to this alone in the dark. John Carpenter and Alan Howarth did an awesome job and it's really some of their finest work. Too bad a deluxe edition hasn't been released, maybe one day.
FANTASTIC!.......2003-12-02
I bought this cd a while back and have listened to it a number of times. My favorite tracks are #1-Main Title and #9-The Rock.
I love the music and I think it's some of John Carpenter's best work.
Great Electronic Score.......2003-11-28
Halloween 3 is possibly the weakest in the series, and definitely the most disliked by fans of the genre. Had it been named something other than Halloween 3 (how about simply "Season of the Witch"?), it may have fared better. But it didn't have Michael Myers, it was only somewhat scary, and none of the character (nor actors) are very compelling. BUT...
The score is terrific. A bold, confident, diverse mix of steely analog electronic music from the 80's. This score both has the Carpenter/Howarth sound, and a wild mix of spooky minimalism, and driving, powerful synthesizers. But unlike a lot of electronic scores from days gone by, this one doesn't sound thin, or weak, or even dated. And it didn't stand out as being blatantly electronic on film. Sure, skip the movie, but if you can find this CD, buy it. You won't regret it.

HALLOWEEN II: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK.......2006-12-03
HALLOWEEN II OST IS ONE EERIE SOUNDTRACK! HALLOWEEN II STANDS TO ME AS ONE OF, IF NOT THE CREEPIEST HALLOWEEN SOUNDTRACK. HERE'S WHY: 1. HALLOWEEN II MAINTAINS THE "ORIGINAL THEMES" ALONG WITH SOME NEW IDEAS. 2. JOHN CARPENTER'S ASSOCIATION WITH ALAN HOWARTH BRINGS TOGETHER TWO GENIUS FORMS OF TALENT. WHILE THE ORIGINAL HALLOWEEN SOUNDTRACK IS A MASTERPIECE, HALLOWEEN II'S FEATURED ELECTRONIC ORGAN BUILDS VOLUME TO THE ORIGINAL THEMES WHILE STILL KEEPING SOME PIANO-BASED TRACKS, SUCH AS "HE KNOWS WHERE SHE IS!" OVERALL, HALLOWEEN II'S ENHANCED SOUNDTRACK IS A HALLOWEEN "CLASSIC."
Halloween II.......2006-11-26
This is overall the best score to Halloween!!!! It gives creepy sounds to Halloween Theme, a polyphonic version of Laurie's Theme. Its basically the same thing done over by Alan Howarth. You can hear the piano in Laurie's Theme right off the bat. Great soundtrack!!!! Worth every penny!!!! Also check out my new Soundtrack for Halloween: The Awakening!
THE SHAPE STRIKES AGAIN!.......2006-10-27
With the music of the original halloween getting an improvisation here in the sequel, the soundtrack stands as the best soundtrack of all the halloween movies. from the opnening theme, to the 1-minutes stalking music, to the bonus "mr. sandman," halloween II is definitely the soundtrack to get creepy with.
As a teen, i have always wanted to acquire this soundtrack way back in vinyl form in 1981. i got this cd in 1995, and never regretted from then on that i did purchase this soundtrack, if only to immortalize the alarm-clock, heartbeat, synthesized horror i was looking for!
Fairly Good.......2005-08-03
The Halloween II soundtrack is an 80's version of the 1st. The main theme sounds way different is less scary but still pretty good. The songs I recommend are Halloween Theme, Lauries Theme, The Shape Stalks Again, and Mr. Sandman. Again in many of the tracks there are random sound effects. Mr. Sandman would go better if put with the Nightmare soundtrack. A good piece to the Halloween collection.
"Creepy Score I would Say".......2005-03-14
John Carpenter hit a goldmine when he did the music to the first HalloweeN. and with halloween II the film got much much Creepyier then the first. even tho John did't come up with any of the new sounds in the film that all goes to Alan Howarth but John wrote the music and Howarth added his own flavor to the Movie theme and I think it worked Great. I would Recommend this Soundtrack to all Halloween Movie Fans everywhere!!!!

Customer Reviews:
Magical but also disappointing.......2004-12-29
I have enjoyed it but only so far. Imagination reigns and you expect unrealistic scenes, but there is a limit. At some stage Harry is given an 'invisibility cloak' left to him by his deceased parents. Soon after he has to hide from the badies. The invisibility cloak would have come in handy there but he appears to forget all about it. My five-year old son commented: why is he not hiding under the magic coat? When flaws are spotted by five-year olds, then there must be something wrong. In this Harry Potter madness are we losing our sense of criticism?
EXCELLENT!.......2004-06-29
Excellent, the best I've heard in a while. It doesn't only have the original motion picture soundtrack, but it also has the bonus CD with all those extras... deffinitely, a must-buy.
Harry's Magic.......2003-07-03
An excellent soundtract to an excellent movie. Haunting suspensful ad compelling. Very imaginative and avoids the repetition of some movie soundratcks. One of the greats i'd say If you love the moive and the book your gonna love the music. Helps to bring the imagery of the movie back. Worth buying
Not Available.......2003-06-05
I wanted this CD, but after ordering it, I got the Chamber Of Secrets instead - twice! - the replacement copy was also the COS. I gave up at that point.
Charming music and fun with the trailers.......2002-05-26
I have been a fan of John Williams' music since the first Star Wars film. For that movie, Williams composed a theme for each character in the same way that Prokofiev did with his musical story, Peter and the Wolf.
This has been done again for the Harry Potter film, with a theme for Harry, a theme for his owl, Hedwig, a Hogwarts school song, a Nimbus 2000 theme, a theme for the Quidditch match and a very dodgy corny theme for Voldemort, which goes Vol - de -mort, Vol- de- mort: not Williams' most inspiring creations.
Williams has created unusual harmonies and melodies to reflect the mystical subject matter very effectively. For instance, there is something [intentionally] weird about the Hogwarts School Song, and the Christmas Music is a little like the music you hear during the festive season, but also slightly odd. These quirks are what makes the music in the film special. I don't think you will find many people whistling the tunes, though!
The bonus CD has trailers in English, French, German, Italian, Korean and Thai. It is great fun to watch the same trailer in all the different languages.
You will find the audio CD a bit repetitive, because the Hedwig theme is repeated over and over, without much variation. But the music is enjoyable, nonetheless.
