Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
After supplying something known as "additional music" to many films since the late 1990s, Steve Jablonsky seems to have become the go-to composer for director-producer Michael Bay. Jablonsky's score for Bay's sci-fi thriller The Island shows the influence of its producer, Hans Zimmer. "The Island Awaits You" sets up the mood, which is oddly muted for a movie directed by explosion-master Bay. Even a track titled "Mass Vehicular Carnage" is merely ominously low-key, oddly sounding like something by dank trip-hopper Tricky. Elsewhere, the electronic number "Starkweather" successfully creates a feeling of oppressive tension before integrating elements of the main theme. Unfortunately, in his effort to avoid big ka-booms, Jablonsky can be overly subdued; while nothing is jarring, nothing makes much of an impression either. Actually, there is one jarring thing on this CD, and it's the Prom Kings' nu metal/funk hybrid "Blow," tacked on at the end like an afterthought. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars Empowering.......2007-02-15

A true gem. If you are an eighties child or not, consider your self
quite lucky to be able to discover this album on your own and bathe
in its rare qualities of having the appeal to womens empowerment and
the softer sensitive side of male reverence for femininity.

Surpisingly stacked with winning numbers that are at wide
turns foot-stomping, melodic, hip swaying, hypnotic and even
to use the words just plain awe inspiring is not to be
overly gratituous.

This is how all music from the eighties through to the nineties
should have stayed.

This music is a gift you give to your self and a secret you
let only your best of friends in on.

3 out of 5 stars Flash dance the soundtrack. .......2007-01-30

there are only a few songs that i enjoy on the sound track, but other than that i think the soundtrack is good.

5 out of 5 stars Flashdance is excellent soundtrack.......2007-01-09

The music is everything in a movie, because make a special touch and this soundtrack is special

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing soundtrack @}->---.......2006-05-05

This is definately one of the best - if not the best - soundtracks in the history of movie soundtracks. You cannot help but love it. It's so amazing. Yes it has that 80's feel, but to me it is timeless. I was 10 when this came out and I love it now even to this day. Manic, What A Feeling, Lady Lady Lady and Imagination are brilliant songs. Gloria was also in the movie but not on the cd. Well at least we got one fantastic song from the late great Laura Brannigan on here (Imagination).
I have friends younger than myself who haven't seen the movie yet (they think it's so old) but they love this music. I think it has such a wide appeal that you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't like it. If you don't already own this, go out now and get it. You'll love it.

I return again and again to this CD. The whole CD is excellent. Even Kevin Kline's version of La Mer is a kick. And the professional singers are above and beyond what I expect from one soundtrack.

5 out of 5 stars Translation of " Les yeux Ouverts".......2007-06-21

ia m a huge fan of the movie, and that songs Les yeux ouverts (eyes open) is my favourite! and i do speak and understand French very fluently and i am very glad to translate it for everybody. i know how when u love a song in another language you really wanna know what it means! Hope you enjoy it!

This memory I'm giving back to you.
These memories, you know I have so many.
Since we dreamed of passing days
No need to change too much.

This memory I'm taking from you.
Memories like that happen to me all the time.
If life mistakenly sets us apart,
I'll get it from my drawer.

I dream with my eyes open.
It feels good.
It does not go any farther.
I don't look back
Since I feel good.
I wish tomorrow would come quick.

A last glass of sherry.
Sherry, my love, when I feel sad.
All days look alike to me now.
I miss you so terribly.

And, to anyone that has not been aforementioned, there is always the association with Meg Ryan in the blue dress charged to Antoine. This soundtrack is a $10 ticket to Paris. Enjoi. Merci.

It's hard not to start feeling sentimental after hearing the loose collection of love ballads that comprise the Notting Hill soundtrack. The romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant is filled with the modern sounds of love--as sung by everyone from pop harmonizers (Boyzone, 98 Degrees) to classic soulsters (Bill Withers, Al Green). The Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'" adds a garage-rock edge, but if you're not up for slow-burning love tunes, this soundtrack probably isn't for you. Two guitar-based score tracks from composer Trevor Jones fill out Notting Hill and add nice instrumental touches to the disc. --Jason Verlinde

A very gentle fun romantic movie. Cast is wonderful, all actors brilliant. I enjoyed every minute of it. The Soundtrack is worth picking up as well.

5 out of 5 stars What a great CD!!!.......2006-08-26

This CD has some great recordings and will never grow old or outdated with time. I bought it for Elvis Costello's rendition of "She," but I love the whole CD.

4 out of 5 stars "Notting Hill" soundtrack.......2006-07-28

This soundtrack is great. I especially like the rendition of "She" by Elvis Costello. This is very much a great romantic and slow dance soundtrack.

4 out of 5 stars A very nice Soundtrack for a good film.......2006-06-09

My wife and I saw the movie in the theatre and purchased the movie on DVD and the soundtrack. We enjoy many of the songs on this CD. My favorite is "Say Nothing at All" by Ronan Keating, (one of the Boyzone members). Boyzone's "No Matter What" written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Shania Twain's "You've Got a Way" are used in the closing credits of the film and two great songs. Bill Wither's great song "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" is perfect for one scene in the movie. The bonus tracks were added as fill since they weren't used in the film. Techno version of "Ain't No Sunshine" is okay. Costello's "She" isn't a favorite of mine. I believe his voice isn't right for this song. Trevor Jones original musical score I believe is especially nice. Al Green's "How to Mend a Broken Heart" is used well in the film, but does not appeal to my tastes. Hope you enjoy the CD and have seen the film.

4 out of 5 stars Notting Hill Soundtrack.......2005-09-26

Great music reproduced beautifully. The sound quality is wonderful. Couldn't ask for more for the price.

5 out of 5 stars good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars memories.......2007-02-22

5 out of 5 stars TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

3 out of 5 stars TV themes.......2006-07-05

Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

5 out of 5 stars Deja Vu.......2006-02-17

Listening to these familiar themes as performed by the original artists certainly brings back wonderful memories! I was particularly pleased, not only with the quality of the pieces, but with the actual performances themselves, just as we remembered them!

I never thought I'd be able to find this CD but Amazon had it and it was shipped very fast. Great album. Just a great album with great songs from the movie which was a clasic western.

5 out of 5 stars Must own for BJ fans.......2007-05-07

This album is in my top 3 favorite Bon Jovi albums (even tho it is a solo record). In this record, you really get to hear just how powerful and gifted Jon's vocals are (with some exceptions - such as in NJ - usually only demonstrated live) - Santa Fe solidified in my mind, the assertion that Jon Bon Jovi was one of the most gifted singers in rock & pop music with very few people (in rock/pop) able to come close to his vocal abilities.

5 out of 5 stars CD.......2006-11-06

My Mom & I have listened to both of the Bon Jovi Albums and we like both "Have a Nice Day" & Cross Roads. We have listened to them both once and we love them.

5 out of 5 stars Soundtrack To Lame Western Movie Actually Has Deeper Cautionary Message.......2006-10-08

BLAZE OF GLORY is not a Bon Jovi album, but rather Jon Bon Jovi and session players doing the soundtrack of the terrible Emilio Estevez film YOUNG GUNS II. However, don't let that deter you from buying this album, because for an album associated with such a lame movie, the music and lyrics are of remarkably high quality. The lyrics seem at first to be standard Old West fare, but if your intake of Omega-3 fatty acids and B-vitamins is ample, you can tell without reading the lyric sheet- in other words, by just listening VERY HARD- that there is a deeper meaning to them. The songs actually form a cautionary suite that warns against getting into dangerous situations of ANY kind, inspiring me to never go anywhere without telling someone where I'll be, as well as influencing my predilection for putting up photos of pretty actresses on my wall as a deterrent to self-indulgent behavior. If I had not believed this interpretation of the lyrics, I would not be living on my own right now. If you've just gotten your first apartment, or are getting ready to, you MUST buy this album. It's Jon Bon Jovi's first truly serious work, presaging KEEP THE FAITH by two years, making it a pivotal moment in his career.

5 out of 5 stars Solid Gold.......2006-09-30

It's hard to classify this album in a genre, but musically it is a benchmark album that sets a standard that few can reach. What sets it apart from Bon Jovi (the band) records, is that it doesn't sound so polished and commercially viable. This is real, heartfelt compilation of songs that speak of life and anyone with a soul could relate to a few of these. "Santa Fe" is one of the greatest songs, lyrically and musically, that I have ever heard. It takes you to a state of mind that few songs do. Jamaican filmmaker Perry Henzell made reggae an integral player in his gritty 1973 saga of a renegade Kingston singer who becomes a modern Robin Hood, casting one of the style's earliest stars, Jimmy Cliff, in the lead, and filling this soundtrack--here presented in a remastered version--with classics from Toots & the Maytals ("Pressure Drop," "Sweet and Dandy"), Desmond Dekker ("Shanty Town"), the Melodians ("Rivers of Babylon"), and the Slickers ("Johnny Too Bad"). Cliff himself gets pole position, however, getting in the first ("You Can Get It If You Really Want") and last ("The Harder They Come") words in this first-rate reggae primer, which also features Cliff's enduring "Many Rivers to Cross." --Sam Sutherland

If you like reggae, you should have this CD. If you could only own 5 reggae CDs of all that is out there, this deserves to be one of those 5. I never tire of listening to these tracks after all these years. The other reviewers have ably described this music. I heartily agree. 5 more stars for The Harder They Come.

5 out of 5 stars The best from Jamaica...and Alabama.......2007-03-17

Still the best classic reggae collection, although as one other reviewer noted, some tracks do sound "Americanized." No surprise. "Many Rivers to Cross" and "Sitting in Limbo" were recorded with the legendary Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section in Alabama. This wasn't documented at the time (I learned it when I interviewed the MSRS in 1979) because apparently Cliff did not have the proper immigration papers to "work" in the USA when Chris Blackwell decided to bring him up for the quick sessions.

5 out of 5 stars one of my favorite albums of all-time........2007-02-13

this album holds its own against the very greatest albums of any genre. even if you are not a fan of reggae, i can't imagine you not loving this cd. there is so much joy, energy, passion and soul bursting from this music that it uplifts me each time i hear it, still fresh sounding to the ears 22 years after first finding it. jimmy cliff's vocals, in particular, are amazing. the songs which he performs on this album, "you can get it if you really want," "many rivers to cross," "the harder they come," and "sitting in limbo," are amongst the finest in the whole canon of reggae. each tune included here is a gem. don't let life go by without having this music in it.

3 out of 5 stars Not as reggae as I wanted.......2007-01-16

I am a bit disappointed in the CD. It doesn't seem to be REAL reggae as I think of it. It seems more like Americanized reggae. Maybe I just need to get a Marley CD. 'You Can Get It If You Really Want' sounds like a song from Sesame Street.

One of the most inspired cobbled-together-from-a-stack-of-records soundtrack albums since Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski matches the goofily ramshackle spirit of the Dude, the hero of its celluloid companion. While offering Bob Dylan's luv-addled "Man in Me" together with the Gipsy Kings' redefinitive "Hotel California" and the psychedelic-era Kenny Rogers nugget "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)," Lebowski also gives longer play to some cuts barely sampled in the film, including Elvis Costello's "My Mood Swings." Whether taken as a Coen brothers mix tape, a one-album CD carousel, or an apropos souvenir of one wiggy flick, this is a smart, eclectic buy. --Rickey Wright

4 out of 5 stars terrific!!.......2007-06-30

this is a fantastic album, if you like ecclectic music, that is. easily one of my favorites.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad... but missing something........2007-04-17

This cd definitely has some good points. A great song by Dylan from the opening credits and my favourite, "Dead Flowers" done by Townes Van Zandt. But tremendously written by Jagger and Richards. Funny how my faves are from the start and end of the film. Between these two songs and a rousing "Hotel California" by the Gypsy Kings, I'm happy enough, but oddly, no Creedance. What am I gonna listen to while reaching for that joint I dropped in my lap in the car?

3 out of 5 stars 8-miles high track... better in movie........2007-03-19

The song that goes with the Treehorn dream sequence in the film (Kenny Rodgers et al "Tripped on a Cloud/ 8-miles high") was better in the movie, as the version on the cd is a poor original edit, with ackward reverses (and I like reverses, when not halfway through a measure...- for example, the reverse that opens it up is fine, the one three quarters through or so, you see, is not.), half measures chopping up the rhythm and in general either hastily done or naively... I've toyed with the idea of re-editing it myself in a track editor, but I'll just delete it from my player, because I'm lazy. The other tracks are good, but with a few odd ones like the feminist chant song- play this at your next Halloween party/[...]. I have loads of creedence, so not missing that. the Gypsy Kings' "Hotel California" is the best track, much better after first listen as anyone who has watched Lebowski more than a few times will be surprised by the new verses at first. "The Man in Me", if you don't already have it, isn't exactly representative of Dylan's work in large, but is a nice ditty. The Mancini song is filler. Elvis Costello's "My Mood Swings" rocks, and I'm glad it was included despite being minutely used in the film. Anyway, it's a good cd all in all, but only for "Hotel California", and "My Mood Swings"... otherwise the Kenny Rodgers' song is bad, should have been re-edited... Probably the reason it was obscure to begin with... The Man in Me is widely available. My advice... wait and find Gypsy Kings elsewhere. Same for Costello and Dylan. Not the best playing mix.

4 out of 5 stars what the f*ck?!.......2007-03-06

No Tumblin' Tumbleweeds. That's a bummer, man, uh, you've got to have Tumbleweeds in there, the film f*cking OPENS with it, man, and it's in there again later with the Stranger. This is a f*ckin travesty. F*ck it. I'm goin bowling.

5 out of 5 stars camd908.......2007-01-05

The Dude is the man for our times. John Goodman makes Walter the crazed Vietman vet a classic movie side kick. And what can you say about Donny except he loved to surf. Happy Trails.

Amazon.com essential recording

While it didn't do for Louisiana music what the film The Harder They Come did for reggae, the soundtrack to director Jim McBride's steamy and stylized cops-and-corruption movie is a pretty good introduction to the region's extensive musical delights (even if gospel's great Swan Silvertones are from West Virginia). The late Dewey Balfa (who appears in the film's sweet porch-party scene) is to Cajun music's rural past what Terrance Simien and Zachary Richard are to its rocking present. Buckwheat Zydeco is to zydeco what Beausoleil is to Cajun: an intelligent synthesis of the old and new that you can dance to. It's a shame the St. Augustine's Marching Hundred's raw and jumping version of "Li'l Liza Jane" didn't make the cut from film to album. And it's an even bigger shame that star Dennis Quaid's awful ballad did. --Richard Gehr

Great soundtrack, if you liked the movie and New Orleans! I love both!

5 out of 5 stars One Of The Best.......2006-05-11

We loved the movie and discovered the sound track. As a New Orleans regular this CD just adds to the mood when we are back home. I predict you'all will jus' love it.

5 out of 5 stars the best single disc intro to the music of new orleans.......2005-08-12

the keyword here is single disc. the whole album clocks in just under 47 minutes. don't know why, but back then the standard running time for a cd is about 45 minutes, so that's at least 20 some odd minutes worth of music they could have put into this cd. of course, at additional right fee. perhaps that was why we couldn't tap into the music of new orleans a little deeper.

that being said, this is a great compilation for beginners. the music of new orleans is an acquired taste that you may never get used to. no matter how much japanese people likes toro, the fatty belly section of tuna, if you don't like sushi, then you will never know. once you get a hang of sushi, you will get to love toro. once you start to liking the new orleans music, you will never get enough.

although new orleans is heavily influenced by the french, but they don't have this type of music over in france, so we can almost say that this is one of the most under recognized original american music. few people knows any new orleans songs outside of tell it like it is and iko iko, and frankly speaking tell it like it is really doesn't sound new orleans to me. it is about as new orleans as toto's africa is to africa. if nothing else, getting this disc to hear the music from the big easy is both fun and educational .

one single disc cannot do new orleans justice, so there is a 4 disc boxset: doctors, professors, kings & queens - the big ol' box of new orleans, also available here at amazon. that set, as comprehensive as it is, does not sound as good as this disc in terms of fidelity. there are only four songs from this cd that appeared on the boxset, but none of them are the same version as the ones appeared in the other title. if you get both you won't feel cheated.

1 out of 5 stars Fabulous!.......2005-07-08

I have seen this movie several times over the years and it never fails to delight me.

4 out of 5 stars Forgettable Movie, Unforgettable Sound Track.......2005-05-17

Some say, all music came from New Orleans. Jazz and blues, from which so much American music descended, got their start in the clubs of New Orleans and fields around the Mississippi delta. New Orleans, and Louisiana generally, remains a major center of musical vitality, if somewhat apart from the American mainstream.

In the mid-80s, I began to develop an interest in "New Orleans" music, and the many varied styles it encompassed including traditional "Dixieland", brass-band and more modern Jazz, as well as second-line, blues, rock'n'roll, cajun, gospel, zydeco and funk. About that time, the Big-Easy, a midling, formulaic picture, put out its sound track, and I was hooked. A sampler of the various styles, with the infectious, polyrhythmic beat so characterisctic of the The Big Easy.

There is so much they could have put on the album, and a one or two that could have been omitted. But since then, I have developed a life-long love of all the various music that represents NOLA.

If the movie Bobby is director Emilio Estevez's nostalgic attempt at celebrating his father's generation, the accompanying soundtrack makes for one amazing goody bag. There's no arguing the greatness of the classics that it collects, like Smokey Robinson & the Miracles' "Tracks of My Tears," Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made to Love Her," and Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence." But even among the tracks that aren't instantly evocative of 1968, a certain era-specific sense of intrigue seeps through--it's there on Demi Moore's titillating and surprisingly well-done "Louie Louie" and again on Mark Isham's mournful but beautiful "No One Left but Bobby." Best of all, though, is the juxtaposition of the oldies with Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige's "Never Gonna Break My Faith," featuring the Harlem Boys Choir. "You can cast the first stone, you can break my bones / But you're never gonna break my faith," the powerhouse that is Ms. Franklin sings; a minute later, Mary J. underscores the point with gut-busting certitude (nobody knows struggle like Mary J.). That line alone is enough to give listeners chills. Enough, too, to convince them that, as gripping as music was in 1968, 2006 may not be far behind. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE, GREAT SOUNDTRACK.......2007-05-17

THIS WILL BE PLAYING IN MY CAR FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT SIX MONTHS AND
I WILL BE SEEING THE MOVIE IN MY HEAD. I WORKED ACROSS THE STREET FROM
THE HOTEL ON WILSHIRE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAD BEEN TO THE HOTEL SEVERAL TIMES WITH CO-WORKERS AND CLIENTS. AFTER THAT NIGHT I NEVER WENT BACK.
MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT ALL THE SONGS IN THE MOVIE WERE NOT INCLUDED ON THE SOUNDTRACK. WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT A SOUNDTRACK OF A MOVIE WITH HALF
THE MUSIC ON IT ? MAYBE THEY SHOULD REMAKE THE SOUNDTRACK AND INCLUDE
THE HURDY GURDY MAN ......"Down through all eternity, the crying of
humanity,'tis then when the Hurdy Gurdy man came singing songs of love"

1 out of 5 stars Where's the score soundtrack.......2007-05-01

I can never understand why record companies consider already released music as a soundtrack. The movie contain great music composed by Marc Isham, with trumpet solos by the accomplished Tim Morrison. Tim Morrison was the solo trumpet in JFK, Born on the Fourth of July, Saving Private Ryan, and Apollo 13, to name a few.

It is a real shame that they did not include more of the score in this soundtrack.

5 out of 5 stars Melancholy Sounds of an Era.......2007-02-10

When we watch movies, the plot and the pictures make us think. Music cuts through all that and touches our soul. The songs on this soundtrack were intended to evoke the era and a measure of compassion for the second tragedy to befall the Kennedy family, and the third tragedy to befall our country in the same period of time. The songs are frequently melancholy and capture a spirit that mere words can only describe.

This CD opens with short speech by Robert Kennedy. This introduction provides a reference for the remainder of the CD.

Mary J. Blige and Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin open this collection with a marvelous gospel song, "Never Gonna Break My Faith," with the Harlem Boys Choir providing backing vocals. This song was written by Bryan Adams, Eliot Kennedy and Andrea Remanda for this movie. Fans of Blige and Franklin will love this song. Awesome new song, classic sound; need I say more?

The 1965 Smokey Robinson and the Miracles classic "Tracks of My Tears" is next. The Supremes 1964 hit "Come See about Me" follows. I am unfamiliar with the 1966 Shorty Long song "Function at the Junction," though the style of the song places it solidly in the 1960's. The original version of "Grazin' in the Grass," an instrumental by Hugh Masekela, is the sixth track on this CD. I am much more familiar with the vocal version by Friends of Distinction than this original version. "I Was Made to Love Her" is the seventh track on this CD and was a 1967 release by music miracle Stevie Wonder.

The mid-1960's was an era of musical revolution. The Moody Blues released "Days of Future Passed" in 1967, heralding the beginning of art rock and progressive rock. "Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?)" was one of the hits from that ground-breaking album. The Los Bravos song "Black Is Black" follows. Los Bravos is unique in their own way as they are a Spanish rock group with a hit song in the U.S.

Marvin Gaye's 1965 song "Ain't That Peculiar," which was written by Smokey Robinson, and three Miracles, is the tenth track. Another Aretha Franklin hit, 1965's "Baby I Love You," follows.

Demi Moore manages to shock everyone by belting out a unique and well done version of "Louie Louie." Who knew? I was expecting anything but a highly interpretive song that makes me reconsider my opinion of Ms. Moore. Ms. Moore's version is much slower than the original, but the style is very retro and could easily have been from the late 1950's or the early 1960's.

The Mark Isham instrumental "No One Left but Bobby" just tears my heart out. I must be getting old; I keep thinking what might have been.

Simon & Garfunkel are the final song on this CD. What song could it have been but "The Sounds of Silence"?

The closing track is the now ironic speech by Bobby Kennedy, "On the Mindless Menace of Violence," backed by the Mark Isham instrumental, "The Mindless Menace of Violence." This track is a fitting and poignant coda to this album that captures the essence of tragedies the United States faced in the 1960's. Those tragedies are embodied in the deaths of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Bobby Kennedy, but they extend to so much more: the tragedy of Viet Nam, the tragedy of Kent State, the tragedy of segregation and race riots. We all fondly remember hippies, flower power and the summer of love, but many of us have forgotten the pain we experienced as our country grew outside the tidy little world of a chicken in every pot and a television in every living room. It is painful to remember, but before we walk down these roads again, we should.

Though not in the album, Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy concluded his eulogy for his brother by quoting George Bernard Shaw, "Some men see things as they are and say `Why?' I dream things that never were and say, `Why not?'" Please think about this phrase when you listen to this album. Then go out and make the future a better place.

3 out of 5 stars Never Gonna Lose.......2007-01-09

Great song "Never Gonna Lose My Faith". Awesome song really. Really top rate. Hopefully kids listen and learn from the lyrics.
Other than that song, it's a real dissapointment.

5 out of 5 stars Great oldies and a stunning new song.......2006-12-10

This soundtrack has some great classic songs that definitley fit the 1960's motif of this surprisingly good film...but I would five stars just for the fabulous "Never Gonna Break My Faith" by Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige with the Harlem Boys Choir. This song was written for the film and when it played over the ending it totally encapsulated how I felt about Bobby Kennedy and the tragic events of 1968. This song is going to win the Oscar, trust me. By the way, contrary to some of the other reviews here, Don Henley had nothing to do with this song. It was written by Bryan Adams (yes, THAT Bryan Adams) and I've only heard a version with his vocals on one of the trailers for the film. His version was not used in the film and, therefore, is not included on the soundtrack.

One of the many wonderful things about the film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert was that it educated the populace on the school of drag. (At least a little.) Likewise, the film's soundtrack also enlightens those who may have wrongly thought that drag is rooted specifically in disco and torch classics. Sure, there's more than one version of disco stalwarts like "Shake Your Groove Thing," "I Love the Nightlife," and "I Will Survive," but this collection also finds the camp in songs like Paper Lace's "Billy Don't Be a Hero" and "Take a Letter Maria" by R.B. Graves. And of course, Abba's "Mamma Mia" emerges as the embodiment of overwrought dramatics. The soundtrack, with songs by the Village People and Vanessa Williams, is as much of a romp as the film. --Steve Gdula

I have to say, the soundtrack to this movie is nearly as funny as the movie itself. But where the movie gains it humor from situational comedy and humanity, the soundtrack is ironic and cheesy to the far extreme.

Nevertheless, put this on at a party and watch all the grown-ups get up to dance.

5 out of 5 stars Great Feelgood Music.......2007-01-24

Full of Disco fun tracks and light hearted dance numbers, this is well worth having.

5 out of 5 stars "I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me...".......2007-01-11

This film is wonderful, this soundtrack is wonderful, the entire Priscilla package is WONDERFUL! This will put you in the right mood everytime, whether you are doing a show in your car, spraying your hair high, or "prancing around lip-synching the words to other people's songs." Get it, girl.

5 out of 5 stars I ADORE this soundtrack!.......2005-02-14

I've had this soundtrack for over 5 years, and I love it to death. It's one of my favorites, with a great variety of music. It always puts me in a good mood, and is overall just a great compilation. You'll love it!

5 out of 5 stars A great collection of songs!.......2002-10-29

The CD opens with a song meant for camp purposes. But, you know it's a guilty pleasure because you'll start singing along too! We're all allowed.

The variety of songs on this CD is wonderful. From jazz to folk to disco to modern remixes of those old dance hits--you will not be disappointed.

As you can see, there are a lot of tracks and the CD is worth it! It's a great disc for parties and other fun activities.

During my cassette days, I wore out the tape. Now that I have a CD player, I can play the disc over and over and over as many times as I want. I still catch myself singing "Can't Help Loving That Man" from "Showboat." That's just one of many great songs on this soundtrack CD. Treat yourself to the movie and then relive your film experience with this CD!
