The 15th production from Montreal's Cirque du Soleil expands upon the troupe's willful, cutting edge redefinition of the traditional circus, yet scales it down to an intimate, erotic cabaret. An exploration of human love and sexuality in all its conflicted splendor, Zumanity leans heavily on its musical score for narrative and sultry mood, and composers Simon Carpenter and Robbi Finkel have essentially created an erotically-charged pop-musical suite whose eclectic styles and disparate ethnic roots underscore the show's pan-sexual intrigues. The spare "Mio Bello Bello Amore" anchors the production's intimacy and often bittersweet tone via the torch-song pleadings of Anna Liani, before the dark, orchestral-rock conceits of "En Zum" and "Wind" quickly expand a musical tack that comes to eventually encompass even the chamber string ensemble elegance of "Meditation" and soulful "Piece of Heaven." There's something for nearly every pop music taste here, from arena rock ballads ("Another Man") and Broadway farrago ("First Taste/Do It Again") to ambient-tinged cool ("Water Bowl," "Per Sempre"), house-savvy grooves ("The Good Thing"), the teasing "Tickle Tango" and "Fugare"'s compelling, R&B/alt.metal fusion. --Jerry McCulley

Un-Desireable to me.......2007-06-06
For every Cirque show I see, I buy the Program & CD.
I really did enjoy the show, style, acts & makeup/costumes...or lack of! ;)
But the CD left much to be desired.
I guess I was expecting grander music, cirq-ish lyrics.
What I got was mostly english-lyrics.
Granted- I did like the Tango. Meditation was Ok.
But nothing was spectacular.
Nothing I would bother downloading had I heard the music first.
So of 11 Lyric-ed songs, I liked 2.
*shrug*
This may be good for some folks, who prefer this style.
I guess it just was to far from my flavor of music for me to enjoy it more.
"tarribul. No, oolful." as Simon Cowell would say..........2006-03-31
All of the other Cirque Soundtracks I have (O, Saltimbanco, Solarium/Delirium, Alegria, Quidam, Journey of Man) are absolutely incredible, yet it seems like every artist has at least one outstandingly bad album...and I'm afraid this one is Cirque's worst. All it really is is just dialogue that hardly makes sense, transitional, very short (not even a minute?) tracks in between that are merely just sound effects, and a few tracks after that which end up sounding like kinky elevator music. Not to mention the singer in the first track is horribly out of tune at the first note which is unnaceptable for a recording! All of the other cirque albums as I listed above are INCREDIBLE, but this is the only one I would highly discourage anyone from buying.
It does test..........2006-01-31
all of the limits. As with any other Cirque production, you have to go in with your senses and your mind open. It was while seeing (another) live show that I wondered if Cirque would do such a show that would be more sensual to the (matured) adult. I wondered what the music would be. I was not disappointed. Many of the forms of music you'd hear in other Cirque CDs are in this show. It's the CONTEXT of eroticism that literally forces the listener to push beyond cultural, societal and self-imposed boundaries of acceptable sexual thought. But eroticism should not be substituted for the act. Some men might be put off by the CD because a few of the strong numbers are sung by women, which puts these females in a position of sexual control (not power). Granted, I even thought I could have done without some of the moans and whips but I do understand that this is reflective of the actual show. Give it another listen...in a quiet place, with an open mind and with open senses. Erase some of the corners of the boundaries...
Worst Cirque CD.......2005-11-01
A dirge of a C.D. Not at all like any other Cirque du Soleil music tracks, which have always been excellent.
A creative departure..........2005-06-26
Well, I'm finally at the point where I don't know what to say about a Cirque Du Soleil album. I own every Cirque CD, including those live versions of Alegria and Saltimbanco, which were only released to the employees of the Cirque. The problem with this CD is the sex that was thrown in. Almost every song has a background of moans and screams, almost too much for anyone's taste. But especially songs like "The Good Thing", where the female rapper repeats "I only care about what you got in your pants"...they just put one off. I don't mind the music, it's in my taste, but this CD is R-rated, and I'm not sure if I'm really into it.
