The year 2005 was big for Italian composer Dario Marianelli. His score for The Brothers Grimm received much applause (probably more than the film itself) and a few months later he came back with another batch of compositions for a period film. This time around, the plaudits are reversed: The film is better than the score. And that's not the only reversal: Since several of his compositions were to be performed by some of the characters on screen, Marianelli wrote parts of the music before the movie was shot, switching the order in which these things are usually done. The onscreen pieces are for solo piano, and Marianelli got a huge leg up by having them played by famed classical performer Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Marianelli was instructed by director Joe Wright to think along the lines of Beethoven (tall order!) but unlike The Brothers Grimm, which cleverly mixed and matched its classical influences, Pride & Prejudice fails to acquire a personality of its own. A few tracks, such as "Arrival at Netherfield," even border on George Winston territory. The intervention of the English Chamber Orchestra usually helps, but overall the score's palette sticks too much to a monochromatic beige. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

I have always loved the Pride & Prejudice story, and both previous major versions of film adaptation. I fell in love with this particular version right from minute one, and was immediately captivated by the wondrous music, primarily centered on the piano. It is brilliantly performed by Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

If more modern music was of this caliber, the world would be a more noble place. No film score collection is complete without this item.

I gotta tell you, the only thing better than Mr. Darcy confessing his love to Lizzy in the rain is listening to this score. I absolutely love it--I espeically love picturing the scenes, which one can see so vividly while listening to the music. It's beautiful. My favorite tracks are 9 and 11. Enjoy!

I purchased this album some time ago, following having seen the dvd of the movie. What I had really wanted was the sheet music so I could play the beautiful piano pieces as heard in the film. It took a few months for the music to be published - Dario Marianelli is the composer - but until that time I listened to the c.d., which, I believe any lover of classical music will enjoy whether they play piano or not. Mr. Marianelli has crafted a hybrid blend between the best of classical form in musicianship with a more modern aesthetic. His music is cleaner, less fussy . . . and therein lies the beauty - you can hear the melodies singing out above all else, and they are rich, lovely melodies! Grab a cup of tea and the newspaper, or head out in the early morning dew to fuss with your garden . . . with P & P playing as your soundtrack. Hugely satisfying!!!

What makes the Pride and Prejudice soundtrack by Dario Marianelli the best? It's so good that you would want to heard it throughout the day, while you're driving, while in your shower, while you're cooking, while doing chores around the house, even while watching my kids play in the park. I got the CD, downloaded it in my cell phone's MP3 and off i went into my classical, magical and elegant world of Jane Austen... even in the midst of my very ultra-mordern suburban life. I love the Black-eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake and the ENglish rockbands too, but sometimes, when you want to go about the day in the Elizabeth Bennet kind of mood, this is the kind of music that puts you into character, that enables you to walk elegantly, slow down and smile charmingly at your kids and husband... this is the soundtrack of my life.

Although the score for Pride and Prejudice was fantastic, there were even more songs that I wish had been included on this disc"

My favorite part was Lizzy playing the piano at Pemberly: Voi Che Sapete from the Marriage of Figaro. I also loved the Netherfield Ball dances with Mr. collins and Mr. Darcy: The Shrewsbury Lasses and Mr. Beveridge's Maggot. (these are very difficult to find anwhere and I especially loved the arrangement in the movie. I would have loved to have a recording of these). Grimstock played by Mary at the Phillips Christmas Party is also a favorite. Also, Andante Favore by Beethoven played by Georgiana at Pemberly. Fortunatly, these are easily found on popular online music sites.

I was very happy to receive this CD which is not sold in France. When I listen to the music, I can imagine the exact moment it corresponds in the film. I like very much the opening title music

Carl Davis's Music is excellent and permit to translate the sense of a small town at this period and the fortepiano produces a unique and fascinating sound, quite different from that oh the modern instrument.

This CD is a good choice for the fans of the series.

Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.

I love the songs on this volume. I'll Try by Jonatha Brooke is such an amzing somg. I especially bought this CD fort that song but, was pleasantly surprsed by the rest of the playlist.

I have bought the first 2 volumes of Disney's Greatest Hits and the 3rd volume doesn't disapoint. My 2 young children love to listen to this CD and talk about the movies that they come from. A definate must have!

This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

Elton John doesn't seem like a natural choice to write for a Disney musical, but he rose to the task on The Lion King, transcending his usual penchant for the softest of soft rock. Sir Elton's collaboration with Tim Rice (former writing partner of Andrew Lloyd Webber) helps connect the soundtrack to the theatrical lineage of all Disney musicals--so much so that, like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King was eventually adapted for Broadway. Undistinguished songs like "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" are far outnumbered by stirring, stately tunes that lent the film so much of its sense of pageant and play. --John Sanchez

in 1994, the lion king came out and broke records. the film itself took in an astounding 312 million dollars in the us. that makes it the highest grossing hand-drawn animated feature EVER (an accomplishment that will never be toppled since niether disney nor dreamworks is producing hand drawn features any more). that year at the oscars it also won two awards for the musical score and best original song (three of its songs were nominated0. so how does the music really stand up compared to other disney features.

first off there's hans zimmer's score. his score is both powerful and moving. it brilliantly incorperates elements of local african music (provided and arranged by lebo m) these elements give it a great feeling of belonging not only to the film but to it's setting. without these tribal elements the score would have been far less compeling. one small problem is when the score abandons these elementsl; they're not carried through in all of the music. but its not enough to be a real distraction. the power of the score allows the listener to feel the wildabeast charging or smell the rain falling during the monsoon or experience the brilliance of the circle of life.

the songs had music by elton john and lyrics by tim rice. the following is a song-by-song breakdown.

THE CIRCLE OF LIFE - this is a great opening number with powerful vocals provided by carmen twillie and impressive african-inspired vocals in the beggining by lebo m. with the actual film, this is not only a moving but inspiring piece of cinema. even without, this is a great song that still gives me goose-bumps. this definately warranted its oscar nomination

I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO BE KING - this is a really fun song by simba and nala along with zazu. its infectious beat and lyrics definately leave u humming. this may not be the most memorable song, but it definately captures the youth and innocence of simba at this point

BE PREPARED - this is scar's big number so to speak. it features the hyenas in a very dark yet memorable song. the rhaspy vocals and wonderful musical arrangements make this a great piece that is both eery and impressive.

HAKUNA MATATA - this is the second oscar nominated song, and although its fun buddy type number, it does get old and doesnt really age as well as the rest. this is honostly one of the weakest songs, believe it or not, its good but just cant really hold up to the other stronger pieces.

CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT - here it is, 1994's oscar winner for best original song. honostly i feel that the circle of life deserved that award, but here's the song that got it. the film's version is very romantic, especially for featuring a couple of lions, timon and pumba's parts are funny, but it is simba and nala's portion that takes it home. btw elton john's version at the end is a definate winner.

SONGS OVERALL - 5 out of 5

so if the score gets 5 and the songs get 5, why does the album only get 4? the answer's pretty simple. for the first time since 1989 with the little mermaid, two composers helped on this film. one provided the film's score and one provided the music for the songs. because two composers worked on this, it feels a little incohesive at times. this isn't really noticible within the film but on the soundtrack it definately stands out. elton john and hans zimmer both did a great job and the only really saving factor are the african rhythms that they both used. although this is a great soundtrack, that lack of unity does bring it down.

despite that minor flaw, this is a must-own for any disney fan or music fan in general. this is a great soundtrack that ranks right up there with beauty and the beast and must never be forgotten.

This album is great, but I can't seem to find the part where simba and scar fight at the end. i was thinking it would be on "King of Pride Rock" but its not... so i'm a little disapointed in that. (thats one of my favorite scenes for some reason) other than that, i love the songs.

The songs with lyrics are cute and memorable, but the strength of this album is in the last four songs. Listen to "This Land" and it instantly transports you back to the scene with Simba and Mufasa laying under the stars, and then to the scene where Simba sees Mufasa in the clouds. Listen to "...To Die For" and you feel an intense claustrophobia as you relive Mufasa's last moments and Simba's discovery of his father. Listen to Under The Stars and you can practically hear Simba screaming, "You said you'd always be there for me!" And when King Of Pride Rock comes along, you can feel your heart swell as you see Simba take his place on Pride Rock. The instrumentals are incredible works of art that never fail to draw intense emotion.

I'm writing this review not of the release of this Special Edition, but of the music contained within. Disney's release and re-release of products is nothing new. It's one of the reasons that Disney is so strong in the market today. With that said, I have to admit that this is one of the best Disney soundtracks that has ever been cut to a disc. I never owned the original release of this music, so I'm glad that Disney did decide to re-release the original work with a few extras as part of the "The Lion King: Special Edition" release. Everything on here is wonderful, and the score itself was key to the development of the story. Selections such as "King Of Pride Rock" and "To Die For" encompass the emotional ups and downs of this film. Elton John's music is also wonderful on this disc. His most notable offerings are "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life." His only downfall is "I Just Can't Wait To Be King," which should have been left to the youngster who performed Simba's singing voice. It comes acrossed as forced by Elton John as he performs it.

The "extras" for this Special Edition include a mild and unnecessary remix of "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "The Morning Report," which is included on the Special Edition DVD release. Neither add to the collection, but it is nice to have "The Morning Report" on the disc.

Overall, this is one of Disney's strongest soundtracks. In my personal list, I rank it in second place behind Phil Collins' wonderfully tribal "Tarzan" soundtrack. If you don't already have the "Lion King" soundtrack, I highly suggest that you purchase this special edition copy if you are a true fan of the film or of Disney soundtracks in general.

Highly recommended.

My love for Charlie Pride's music goes back to my childhood. Mr. Pride's music is just about the only country artist I'll listen to on any given day. This fine collection of his finest songs brought back fond memories and rekindled my love for this man's music and magical voice.

I recently bought my mother a copy--she's a lifetime fan too--and it instantly became her favorite CD. If you're new to Charlie Pride you can choose any one of his albums to capture the brillance and magic of this man's music, but this one would do nicely if you want to hear some of the best of his musical history.

This is a great CD re-issue of the Band of the Royal Marines School of Music under Graham Hoskins. This band did a three LP series on Sousa marches some years ago that was better than most on this very well covered topic. Sousa march recordings will always come and go, but some like this stand out more than others. For one, there is nothing like the panache of a Royal Marines band. Their sound is a time honored development that gets passed from one generation to the next. Even as the number of RM bands continues to change and downsize, there are now about four bands left in the service, their sound quality continues to be superb.

When these recordings were made RM bands were still at their height in the British service and their quality was amazing. Most bands numbered over 60 in this period, and that is why many Americans may be surprsed at the volume of music produced here. This is not one of your small, though excellent regimental bands! Americans tend to think that British military band instrumentation is on the thin side. Not so here! Of course Sousa always sounds best with either the Allentown band or the US Marine band.

This CD is evidence of how popular Sousa has always been in the UK, and with RM bands in particular. The selection here on two CDs covers most of the standard Sousa fair, with a few different selections here and there. Unfortunatley there are none of Sousa's fine transcriptions for classical music, or selections from his operettas. This music is always wonderful to have in combination with the marches as it shows how much variety he was capable of in his compositions. For that kind of concert the reader is referred to the very fine collection of Sousa music being done under the Naxos label by the Band of the Royal Artillery.

Here you will find a solid collection of Sousa's great marches. Roughly a third of those 136 compositions are contained here. The Royal Marines give a sharpe and clear sound to these works which should certainly inspire. You will also get a very nice idea how RM bands sounded back in the 1980s. Graham Hoskins was a fine director of music, typical of the inhouse genius of the Royal Marines Band Service at that time. He took this band on a USA tour in 1985 with the Arygll & Sutherland Highlanders. Devotees of Sousa should enjoy these spirited versions of the march king's music as performed across the pond.

I bought two audio casettes with these marches back in the 1980's and wore them out. These performances are hard to beat for virtuosity, enthusiasm, and sparkle. The sound quality is outstanding. And there are some marches that are rarely, if at all, available.

Great value 2 cd disc set cut in the early 1980's & remastered the sound of the Royal Marines Band is nothing short of terrific. Judging by the sound would not be surprised for this to be a combined double RM band. These 1st chair players give Sousa's great marches that extra kick that takes the "March Kings" music to that higher level. By the center quick march!!!!

The guitar solo in White Lion's "Wait" is a LIMP-WRISTED DINOSAUR. It's a blast of subconscious femininity spewed to the surface by its steel-eyed, steel-toed creator, Italian Long Islander Vito Bratta. Its sweep-picked dips and launches are as fluid as milk on moisturized spine tissue, its bendy hammer-ons as eerily scraped clean of excess noise as a Svenson silencer. It makes the man who was undoubtedly Bratta's greatest influence, Eddie Van Halen, sound like the sloppiest spank maven of all time. Even the opening finger-tapping on "Hot For Teacher" has traces of misplaced pick-induced grit and grime. This solo is more sterilized than a Norwegian maternal ward. It's a major-key lite-toned crystal clear hang-gliding ascent towards hair metal heaven, where all the glammy apostles freely accept the most feminine aspects of their genre, without resorting to horrifically homophobic cover-up a la Sebastian Bach of Skid Row (not even Axl Rose had the gall to don an "AIDS Kills F**s Dead" shirt on live TV). Bratta's solo inadverdently begs all metaldom to embrace the tender and shun the hedonistic.

And why not? After all, the song is one of the most disgustingly sincere metal ballads of all time, with lyrics like "Wait, wait, I never had a chance to love you." Released in 1988, the same year an onslaught of more well-received (yet no more substantive) glam ballads such as "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Don't Know What You Got 'Till It's Gone" hit international airwaves, "Wait" bears a positivity, an angelic wholesomeness, that places it in a slightly different league than its ilk. This song isn't lamenting an affair or love gone bad; its narrator is merely asking his love interest to be a little more patient, and you know from all the triumphant chanting that she'll concede.

White Lion played "gee whiz" metal. They were guilty of all the same glam posturing as their peers; guitarists playing back-to-back, scarf on the mic stand, three members sharing a mic, a singer more splashy than Joan Jett and Uma Thurman's potential love child. What set them apart from the others was their purity, their love of monogamy and harmony. After all, their second single was an ode to those heart-wrenching moments "When The Children Cry." Sex and booze are noticeably missing from their videos. And Bratta's solo, all white-furred lynx preening and cream acrobatics, is a paean all its own, the patron saint of altruistic heavy metal.

I first saw White Lion on MTV in 1987 when their video for "Wait" came out. The moment I saw Vito Bratta play his solo I knew right then and there that I wanted an electric guitar, and I've been playing ever since. In the almost 20 years since, I've played all sorts of styles and listened to all kinds of music, but when I sat down recently to tune up my playing I found myself rummaging through old CDs and began listening to WL with fresh ears.
The results were pleasing if not life-changing, and now that I've put in almost twenty years of my own on guitar, I can safely say that Vito merits being an inspiration. While the rhythm section of James Lomenzo and Greg D'Angelo was often under-utilized (considering what they've done with Zakk Wylde, DLR, and other post-WL projects) the biggest weakness has always been Mike Tramp's voice. This is not to denigrate his prowess so much as his tone. Live videos of his singing have consistently revealed him to have weak projection and limited range-HOWEVER, let us consider that many of WL's songs vary in key and none of them are in A on this album, the easiest key in which to sing.
Tramp had a voice that, like Springsteen, Rod Stewart, or Tom Petty, has a certain nasality and raspiness that you either like or dislike, with no middle-ground. That said, any glance at the concert videos for the original line-up or his reformed version of WL on YouTube should remove any doubts that he is an energetic and engaging frontman.
What really matters, though, is the music, and contrary to what anyone thinks, the lyrics to a song really are not more important than the melody. Want proof?-sing Nena's hit "99 Balloons" in German. Can't do it? I thought so. Now hum the melody, or the synthesizer riff. That's what counts, and that is what raises White Lion above hair metal sewage like Faster Pussycat, Bang Tango, or Britny Fox. Tramp's vocal lines and Bratta's leads both obey the first rule of music making, which is create a memorable melody. In fact, it is what separates the great songs on this album (of which there are many) from the mediocre(of which there are few.) Let's examine each track:
1."Hungry"-A perfect intro features Vito introducing the main riff interspersed with tasty fills that leads into Tramp's seductive lyrics. The interplay between their call and response sells the song, and Lomenzo and D'Angelo pound out a solid base for Bratta to layer his combined lead and rhythm work. The undermining factor here is Tramp's voice-his stylistic quavers make the seductive nature of the lyrics short out. Watch his new band on YouTube and his voice is deeper, stronger, and sells this song much more effectively. 8/10
2."Lonely Nights"-A moody, midtempo lament of lost love supported by a nicely fingerpicked acoustic intro. Most of WL's songs are always compositionally sound and this one is no exception. The lyrics paint a dark picture of teenage runaways on the streets of NYC (no surprise since 3/4 of the band are native New Yorkers) and Tramp's voice most of the time fits the overall ouevre of the tune, particularly on the chorus' harmonized vocals. That's right, I said ouevre in a review of a hair metal band. Deal with it. The problem is that the song never gets into a higher gear, and musically resembles a movie with great background shots that never develops its plot. 6/10
3. "Don't Give Up"-In all honesty, this song is a guilty pleasure. Tramp sings earnestly but the hokiness of the lyrics in the chorus detract from what may be Bratta's most intricate yet most soaring leadwork, as well as a definite feeling of desperation in the verse that demands the over-the-top anthemic quality of the refrain. 7/10
4."Sweet Little Loving"-Catchy as the common cold, the refrain on this tune might actually make you want to dance. Lomenzo's bassline is notably swinging for a pop metal act and Bratta displays a restrained and tasty solo that segues nicely into a foot-stomping bridge. I've played this for headbangers and my grandmother at the same party and they both liked it! 8/10
5."Lady of the Valley"-One of the songs that places WL ahead of other hair bands, this is an overly ambitious attempt at creating an epic composition along the lines of "Stairway to Heaven" or "Free Bird." Most of it works-Tramp's vocals suit the theme of loss and sorrow, the terraced dynamics constrasted between fingerpicked acoustic guitars with thunderous Sturm und Drang on the irresistible refrain, a few brilliantly crafted leads, and a rumbling, propulsive rhythm throughout sell the song. The one weakness here are the lyrics-I think Tramp uses the word "cry" more than any lyricist this side of Hank Williams. This is excused, however, by the fact that Tramp is from Denmark and gets points for writing anything in his second language. 9/10
6."Wait"-Well, how to review this one? If there's anything that hasn't been said about it since it was on the charts 20 years ago, it probably isn't worth mentioning. EXCEPT-whether you love or hate the song, listen to Tramp's alternate arrangement on YouTube where he extends the coda and drops the song to a lower key. At first I didn't like it, but found myself going back to listen and it eventually won me over. What does this prove? That an interesting arrangement of a song requires that it be a good song in the first place, and "Wait" qualifies. Tramp's voice is perfectly suited to this tune, the arrangement of the acoustic and electric guitars has real synergy, the dynamics created by Lomenzo and D'Angelo lift your heart, and if you can't sing along with the chorus, then you just don't like any kind of rock or pop music. 9/10
7."All You Need is Rock-n-Roll"-Apparently, lucky number seven doesn't count here. The lyrics are pedestrian even for this genre, there's no force or conviction behind the amped up chorus, and with a title like this, shouldn't everything be over-the-top? Sadly, it's not. Its one saving grace is Bratta's fadeout solo where he flashes some of his blues chops and reminds you what he can do when he cuts loose. 4/10
8."Tell Me"-It was the lowest charting of the three singles released off this album, which is a crime. On the other hand, I take some pleasure in knowing that it still belongs to a true fan and won't be used in a Cingular commercial in ten years. From the opening kickdrum, the anthemic power chords, and the harmonized vocals in the first ten seconds, the pulse of this song charges up and never lets go. This is a pop song in the best sense of the term, and there isn't a wrong note anywhere in it. Tramp's delivery perfectly suits the song's theme of forbidden teenage love, Vito's fills are artfully subtle, and when the chorus kicks in, the song keeps every promise rock-n-roll ever made (to paraphrase Greil Marcus.) 10/10
9."All Join Our Hands"-A bit of a letdown after "Tell Me"'s exuberance but still a solid tune. Tramp has always distinguished himself from most glam metal singers by writing lyrics about what was going on in the world rather than how many groupies he boinked last night, and here the focus is on his despair over how we all can't live in peace. The raise-your-fist-and yell bridge puts the rest of the song over. 7/10
10."When the Children Cry"-OK-their biggest hit. Yes, Mike Tramp's voice is cloying. Yes, the lyrics are right out of a high school girl's notebook for a poetry workshop. Yes, Vito's tone is a tad brittle on the solo. Minor quibbles. Bratta's fingerpicked acoustic guitar (recorded without bass or drums, mind you) demonstrates why he was a cut above his contemporaries like Lynch, Beach, DeMartini, and Timmons-no one played better acoustically amongst any of the hair bands of the day. The message is heartfelt, the guitar playing is elegant, and if you honestly hate this song, you're just a sad, sad human being. 10/10

Now, let me start off by saying that I am a BIG White Lion fan. I own every album they did except for Fight To Survive (which I'm soon to own as I ordered it, hehe). Though one of my favorite songs of all time by them, which happened to be off the Fight To Survive album titled "All The Fallen Men", really let me see a heavier side to them, I believe Pride best demonstrates their effort in a heavy, yet not so raw feel. Let me break down each song and tell you what I think, personally.

Hungry- 10/10: The first song on the album, and indeed it's a very explosive way to kick things off. The song comes in with a nice power guitar (alone at this time), which gives you an almost pure arena rock sense. The drums then kick in, and everything comes together very nicely from there forward. Very well produced, and of course a great solo by Bratta.

Lonely Nights- 10/10: My favorite song on the whole album! A beautiful acoustic guitar coming in to play the riff, which is followed by a distorted rhythm repeating the riff again, only a step higher (I believe). Great vocals by Tramp which really fit the tone, but the most memorable part of the song, for me, was the absolutely incredible solo by Vito Bratta. One of his best solos ever, in my opinion.

Don't Give Up- 9/10: Keeping up the fast pace, a more popish sounding tune places as the third track on the album. In fact, if anything, the melody is the greatest aspect of this song. The vocals were top notch, and the half step up was executed perfectly. The only thing that made me give a 9 for this song was the rather uninventive lyrics. Overall, great song though.

Sweet Little Loving- 8/10: Normally, I'd say a song like this is great. However, for White Lion standards (well, maybe just in my eyes), it's okayish. It's got a pretty catchy chorus and all, but I just have that lasting memory that I get from most White Lion classics.

Lady Of The Valley- 10/10: "Lady of the Valley/Can you bring him back/To the days when we were kids"...One word, oustanding! The longest song on the album, but every second of it is worth the listen. Awsome intro from a slow, but soothing distorted riff leading into a mysterious-like fingerplay. What I love about this song is just all the progressive changes made throughout it. Against, great vocals by Tramp. This one's a definite keeper.

Wait- 9/10: This was the first hit single from the Pride album. A lot like their song Tell Me, it has a rather memorable melody and some catchy hooks in there as well. On the other hand, for me...this, by far, wasn't my favorite song on the album.

All You Need Is Rock In Roll- 1/10: I guess I can't really comment on this song, as I kind of thought it was a waste of time adding it to the album. But don't be fooled. White Lion are some of the best musicians around, possibly my favorite band of all time, but everyone must have their downfall.

Tell Me- 10/10: Ah, the second hit from their Pride release. Unlike Wait, I enjoyed mostly every aspect of this song. The lyrics were pretty decent, but what stood out more than anything was their driving melody and a chorus that would stick in your head for quite awhile. Also, a fantastic lead part by Bratta...again.

All Join Our Hands- 7/10: The way this song was put together sounds very anthem-like, and I believe that's the way they intended, so good job on that. The reason I give this song a seven is because, even though the idea and production behind the song was great, I thought the song itself lacked a lot.

When The Children Cry- 10/10: Now, most people would disagree with me when I say that When The Children Cry was, and still is, an excellent song. Superior fingerplay work by Bratta, and a nice emotional solo in the middle part. I'm not really sure Mike Tramp's vocals were strong enough in this one, but they were still good.

Overall, I give this album four stars. Me being a big fan, you probably would have expected five, but I'm very picky on my music :). There are really only two songs that I think fill this album, and those are "All Join Our Hands" and "All You Need Is Rock And Roll." The other eight tracks are tremendous. My favs from the album were "Lonely Nights, Lady Of The Valley, and Tell Me."

If you only purchase one White Lion album, make it this one!!!

I love this cd! It really has everything included of what makes up a great cd, catchy chorus, great riffs, awesome vocals. I greatly recommend all rockers out there getting this it is definetly worth it, my favorite song on this disc is 'Lady Of The Valley'. I like just about every song on here, I think there are 2 songs on the whole thing that I dont care for. But the buttom line is that this really is a great cd.

If Lynyrd Skynyrd met Alice in Chains, this is the record you might get. The recording quality is a little unpolished, but that only adds to the character of the songs. While not what you might expect from the former Ozzy and soon to be BLS guitarist, this is certainly a record that anyone who like classic rock should enjoy.

Sorry, this cd just isn't all that and I went and bought it based on the fact that I love Book of Shadows and read the reviews. BLS earlier stuff is awesome, and I'm into skynyrd and allman bros. and other southern rock as well as heavier music so I thought I'd like this. I don't, it doesn't work. Zakk's singing on this just pushes me away, or not sure what it is but the cd sounds like he wants to be Bob Seger - which IMO is NOT a good thing. Get Book of Shadows, which is excellent, or if you want other mellow metal from Zakk - Hangover Music Vol 6 blows this one away too.

I was not a big "Southern Rock" fan...until I listened to this album. Zakk Wylde is able to blend his southern rock roots (although he's from New Jersey)with his modern-style of guitar playing. The result? An amazing album that leaves listeners wondering when the next album is coming out. Unfortunately, that does not seem too likely. While all the songs are excellent, "Cry Me a River" is the highlight and illustrates that Wylde can write with more depth than most give him credit for. This album is DEFINITELY worth spending $10-15 bucks on...even if you don't like southern rock. Trust me.

yes it's Zakk. yes it's a masterpiece. why? well, where does one start? Zakk Wylde decided that his Ozzy Days weren't really what he was about. undoubtedly he owes his rock and roll life to the Ozzman, but he felt there was something more to share with the world. this is what he put forth. a true master work from a man who may be the rock and roll high priest of our generation. everthing that is great about rock is found within: blues, country, a little bit of soulful harmony and good old fashioned heavy metal will grace your eardrums on this gem. why try to describe each tune, when you can let the music do the talking. i bought this baby the day it was released, and have never had a single week go by when i didn't hear a track from it, be it from a mix cd, or the cd itself. do yourself a huge favor and pick it up while you're on here. too much talk can spoil the surprise. just trust me and spin it for yourself. peace.

Look, Zakk rocks. I've followed his entire career, so when I say Pride and Glory is weak, I mean it. The southern rock twinge is actually pretty cool and Zakk plays some nice solos on the softer tunes on CD. But it always goes back to the same thing for every artist--SONGWRITING. It's just not good here. Too many tracks sound alike and the songs are just thrown together. Track 5 is OK. Rest is mostly filler. Nothing you will remember 5 mins. after you change the CD. Sorry Zakk, but it sounds like you threw this together in 1 drinking binge weekend. Good move to kill the Pride. Now if you want good acoustic and blues from Zakk, get BOOK OF SHADOWS. It blows away this lame effort. Pride and Glory should only be purchased from the bargin bin. ROCK ON BLS

I went and saw the Lion King musical a couple of days ago and couldn't believe my ears. I actually recognized most, maybe all, of the new songs! How? Easy, they are on this CD. I've had it since it was released and still love to listen to it. After the musical I went home and dug out the cd and I was right. There was some editing done, some of the lyrics were changed, but the melodies stayed true.

I have owned this cd for quite awhile, now. I absolutely love it! This is one I never tire of hearing and play it whenever I need a lift in spirits. It is fun and upbeat and I am constantly trying to sing the African words, but usually can't keep up. This is a great cd to take along on a long drive. I recommend it for all age groups. Lebo M is really a master at what he does, as all the African singers on this cd.

I got this CD a few weeks ago. When it finally came I danced all around!My favorite songs are "Warthog Rhapsody", "One by one", and "The lion sleeps tonight". What great music! So why don't you get it for a low price!

I was in a game store a few days back looking at the used CD selections (Ironic I know), looking for the original 'The Lion King' CD since I cannot seem to find a new copy anywhere, and I came across this CD amongst the stack of others. It was in very good condition so I decided to purchase it, and I am very delighted that I did. The songs are absolutely beautiful, and the remake of 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' is, in my opinion, magnificent. The African voices and harmonies also makes these songs stand-out. Along with this are the soothing melodies that sweep you away and bring all of your emotions into play. All in all, this is just a great CD and I recommend it to those who enjoy unique, relaxing and beautiful music.

This CD is simply remarkable. You truly have to hear it to understand what I mean. I found out about it when I was watching Disc 2 of my Lion King DVD, and what I expected to hear was some cool beats and maybe some catchy chanting. What I got was far, far beyond that, and here's why:

Firstly, it hit me upon the third listening that so much of this music sounds like a celebration. It's the kind of music that energizes you and makes you smile, and want to share it with people. This is the only CD that can cheer me up when I'm in another one of my funks. Everybody needs to have something like that!

Secondly, I had not understood why the people involved with the Lion King were so high on Lebo M until, of course, I heard this CD. He is directly involved with the most beautiful and uplifting tracks; to have that kind of music come from you is a blessing, plain and simple. Wish I had that kind of talent!

Thirdly, some of the tracks incorporate music from the original soundtrack, which 1) is awesome because they are excerpts that were not main themes but could have been, and 2) is awesome because Hans Zimmer wrote the score. He's my all-time favorite film composer ("Gladiator," "Prince of Egypt," "Crimson Tide") and it's just really cool to hear his music sung by such a talented choir.

Is this the most pure, authentic African music you could ever buy? No, but you can't let that ruin this for you. Lebo M is from South Africa, as is the choir, and I'm betting that South African music is going to sound different from the music of Namibia or Kenya or Madagascar. Just like here in America; a foreigner should not be disappointed because Green Day does not sing folk music. Also, remember that at least three of the tracks are influenced from the original soundtrack, written by a non-African (actually German, I believe) composer.

The best tracks, in my opinion, are "One By One," "Noyana," and the incredible "He Lives in You." But I was also pleasantly surprised by the cover of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight;" I would demand seven figures to listen to the original version, which is so cheesy to me (and I'm sure lots of other folks), but with a thoughtful arrangement as well as the addition of African voices and instruments (and a slower pace) it's actually an amazing song. "Hakuna Matata" is re-envisioned with new lyrics in which the singer is an African laborer who longs to have learned the motto before he became older and less inclined to reap all that life offers. And there's even a song with Timon and Pumbaa, left out of the movie, and sung by Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella. It's humorous and kind of Broadway-ish, but sometimes I skip it. Sorry. :)

Wrapping up - it's amazing how much tracks like "Noyana" sound like gospel music! I'm no afficianado of that genre, but the choir makes me want to be. Even though sung in an African dialect, the harmonies are similar to those you would find in gospel music (that is, absolutely gorgeous) and in "One By One" they even clap together. ("One By One" is unaccompanied but for the gradual addition of sound effects by some in the choir, which is reminiscent of some band piece that allow the students to add the sounds of crickets, birds, etc. So cool!)

So, if you like the Lion King, or African music, or gospel music, or being happy, or having great music stuck in your head - good news! This is the number one CD you should be buying RIGHT NOW. I'm so grateful I did.
