Raising Helen [Enhanced] [Soundtrack]

Its plot pure cloying Hollywood formula: NYC career woman Kate Hudson finds parenthood thrust upon her when her sister is suddenly killed; call it Suddenly Stepmother. It's effective TV-scale sitcom/melodrama, with a pop song-score to match. Mixing predictable Top 40/new wave chestnuts (Bowie's "Fashion," S&G's "At the Zoo," "Whip It" by Devo) with a slate of young modern rock and pop label investments that includes Five For Fighting, Kristin Osborn of Shedaisy, Haylie Duff and Fefe Dobson, the collection effectively evokes the film's central conflicts, but breaks little new ground. Liz Phair makes the closest thing to a star turn on the slinky pop-rock cruncher "Extraordinary," while the contributions of John Hiatt and Joan Osborne anchor the bubbly collection with enough maturity and emotional gravitas to keep it from blowing away in a strong breeze. --Jerry McCulley

Pretty good.......2006-07-01
I like the music from this movie it's fun and it's sweet something I like to listen to on a regular basis
Fun, Fun, Fun.......2006-03-12
This CD has such great songs on it. Such a nice mix. Easy to listen to. I always try to find soundtracks as they give you a great variety of music this one is great from start to finish.
old meets new.......2005-11-07
I was so touched by this film, which looked flaky from the trailers, so I waited for it to come from BB video online... I almost forgot how much I love John Hiatt, but "Feels Like Rain" anchors this cd, and being 53, it was a treat to hear my wonderful Mr. Bowie, some newer pop artists, although for my taste, there is a bit too much fluff from a couple of them, and on the other hand, I was introduced to a couple of artists who I really dug."Whip It", here-to-fore viewed by my memory as seeing me dance around with my first-born and making her laugh out loud, so it had only a sort of gratuitous fun flavor from the 80's- for the first time had touching meaning for me- it is central to the movie, and used in the most creative way I can imagine. (I called her at college and asked her if she will dance with us to it again next time she's home, but...)On the whole, unless you have seen this very wonderful movie- this cd might not be for you, but after taking the movie in (you just gotta love Garry Marshall's unusual and always fresh approach)- this entire cast was fabulous, the cd holds more meaning and was a very nice surprise, over all.
An OK soundtrack but why did they put destiny?!...........2005-02-10
I love zero 7,but i'm tired of destiny,i already have it on two CD!now three!and i wanna have their albums so,four!...Anyway it's a really good soundtrack filled with good songs sung by really great artists. And it's a real soundtrack because almost all the songs heard on the movie are here.I think it's fun to start with a cheesy song like whip it which i like very much...
Well,if you loved the movie like i did,you won't be disappointed, they chosed the best. One of my favorite is feels like rain by john hiatt,it's a really smooth song with jazzy tones,i love his voice...
