Bootleg copy, beware.......2007-06-13
This set comes in an old-style, hard-case 4-CD jewel box. The individual CDs (audio CDs) have the "DVD Video" logo on them, and while the whole thing appears to be a fairly high quality bootleg, it is non-the-less, a bootleg. I don't know if it was authorized, or if this is an outright abuse of copyright law, but I'd aim for the real thing if you can find it.
Hopefully the original artist will re-issue the real thing....
Bootlegs suck..........2007-04-03
My review of "1 star" only applies to the bootlegged copy of the set (which I received through this listing). Anyone who's seen the series knows how great its soundtrack is-- do the artists responsible a favor and track down the ACTUAL soundtracks rather than this...
Beware of bootlegs.......2006-10-07
The true cd box set has a catalog number of VIZL-64. The one I purchased turned out to be from Alion, catalog number ALCA-8032/5. Some manufacturing flaws in the cd led me to do some looking into this.
This box set, like much of Cowboy Bebop, has been out of print for some time now, and the existing box sets are somewhat of a collectors item, so beware of low priced items.
The set I recieved has trouble being read by most of the cd and dvd drives I have, 'fortunately' one external drive can read them. I'd advise some digging around to be sure you're actually getting a box set from Victor Entertainment and not a bootleg if you are sensitive to such things.
I've liked the music of Cowboy Bebop since I saw my first episode, and I saw this as a convenient way to get a fair portion of the soundtracks. The bootlegged versions of this product may not live up to your expectations of quality. Cowboy Bebop gets 5 stars. Bootlegs, well, can't go below 1, would if I could.
A lot to take in, but excellent.......2006-06-22
This box set is jam packed with excellent music from the series, and many songs not available elsewhere. Once you start listening to these songs, you get hooked. There are many forms of jazz on here, pop ballads, piano solos, and everything in between, from hip hop to folksy guitar stuff.
My one complaint: the dialouge tracks. I see them as being mostly unnecessary and usually skip over them. However, they do provide a least provide a break in between songs so you can try to digest what you just heard.
This boxset was the first Cowboy Bebop soundtrack I got, and I wasn't disappointed. I've had it for a year and a half now and still listen to it regularly. It's a great introduction and collection of the music from C.B., but I would recommend buying some of the other soundtrack cds as well, such as Blue or No Disk. But if you're new to C.B. music, or an avid fan, this boxset is something you'll keep coming back to.
Good music from a TV show?!.......2006-03-26
This box set is really great. Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts have a wonderful sound. Most music made for shows or movies is boring and repetative. Not the case here. The only setback is that the dialouge tracks are in Japanese so I can't understand them! =( I would give my soul away to have this same set with the dialouge tracks in enlgish, because there are probably some great lines from the show on here that I'm missing. Perhaps I'll have to learn Japanese...

Could be 5 Stars BUT!!!.......2006-09-16
To begin with, if you are looking at these CDs means that you: a) have seen the (amazing) CB series, and liked the music, or you have heard from somebody else that the music is very good. To be honest the music is incredible and includes a wide spectrum of kinds of music.
Now, in my humble opinion if you already own the other music CDs than you do not need to buy these CDs, except if you are a `die-hard' fan of the series. If you do not own already the music CDs of the series but would like to buy them than prefer these ones, which are much cheaper compared to the other ones and include most of the music of the series (but not all).
The set consist of four CDs, which include most of the music of the CB series, and an 8 page small booklet which has the words of a few songs. As for the box set, it is solid, meaning it is made out of plastic and does not brake easily. Moreover, as for the songs another reviewer has written them done as detailed as possible, therefore it is not much for me to say except that they are incredible.
Furthermore, as on the issue of the dialogs; to be honest if you have not seen the series they most probably will not make much sense to you (not to mention the fact that they are in Japanese, meaning that I do not know if you prefer dub or Japanese). Apart from it, if you have seen the series, they will make sense and it is basically up to you if you do not mind after a couple of songs the interference of the dialogs or not.
Finally, to the fourth CD which has created most differences of opinions among the reviewers. To begin with, the songs 1-9 (out of 13) are recorded life. I will be honest: the matter is not which group sings the songs or not, because they are basically the ones who sing many of the other songs of the CDs. The problem is that the live record is not as (crystal) clear recorded as the other songs of the other three CDs; in other words, it is a matter of quality. In addition, my favorite song amongst the CB soundtracks, the one called "The Real Folks Blues' - the ending song of the series - which is the 9th song of the fourth CD, does not sound clear as the other three recorded CDs and loses in quality and sound.
To conclude, if you would like to have most of the songs of the series, and do not mind the poor quality (in the broader sense of meaning) of the first 9 songs of the fourth CD, than these CDs are highly recommended for you.
I hope I could help...
Rating the bootlegs.......2006-08-31
Howdy all - Just received this set from the import king (one of many sellers offering this new at ~$30). While the music is good (or great - it is the soundtrack after all), be advised that most of what is available isn't exactly the product described on the Amazon page. Usually it's a bootleg, with everything packed on four discs and with different packaging (only an 8 page booklet, for example). If you're hoping for the blowout super-cool set that was originally and officially released, keep looking (or look carefully). So three stars, not because the actual music is less than five stars, but because it's deeply annoying that Amazon can't distinguish a bootleg pressing from an official one.
...what else can I say about the wonders of this?.......2005-03-06
Its just amazing. Awesome to play with your windows down in your car... kind of makes you in the feel good mood that the whole series brings to you. And I admit, when I first watched the series I was a little negative about it. Well, I kept on watching because what first kept me in was the music. Then, the story tied in and well shouldn't it be the other way around? I think the music is great for an anime series! (Kind of like how Please Teacher! did for me hehe)
The reason I NEEDED to finalize my decision to buy this box set is the beginning song for the Cowboy Bebop movie "Ask DNA" and of course the series finale music... the ending for the whole series (the last song played) just made me cry...
Get it! :)
Seatbelts---Yes! Live Seatbelts---No!.......2005-01-02
Okay the last cd in the set is Live! My opinion is so-so. The other 3-cd set is awesome and has cuts not found on other Bebop compilations, It seems these recordings are far superior than the other cd's but I have the J-version. Everything is neatly packaged with a Bonnie and Clyde style cover and the cd's are primary colors with the main character etched on each. To be honest, I listen to this cd more than all the rest.
NOT JUST FOR FANS OF THE SERIES.......2004-05-14
Now, I have to say that I am a big fan of the series, but my first expirince with anything involving Cowboy Bebop, series, muisc, ANYTHING, was this CD. I went over to one of my friend's places, an he was playing this CD. I was stunned. I was, and still am, in a Jazz band, a Bass player actually, and I have to say that the Seatbelts have one of the best rythm sections ever. Not only is their band incredible, but Yokko utelises their talents in the most incredible ways. This CD has many types of music: Jazz, Blues, Jazz Ballads, Semi-80's rock type things (what's with all this anemity to 80's rock, anyways?) and, of course, Bebop. Each style they manage to pull off with out a fault, as far as my picky ear can hear. Basically, THIS CD IS ONE OF THE BEST EVER!!!
