5 out of 5 stars Dark, Haunting, and Amazing.......2007-04-03

I am pretty new to the world of Hellsing, I have bought the anime and have watched it through several times. The show was great, I really loved it, but what really made the show so cool for me was the music, it was kinda dark, but went great with all the action. I've since purchased this CD and listened to it, and I must say that it is amazing, this soundtrack brings out the best of Hellsing. This soundtrack is great because there's plenty of music, some kinda slow and sad, some more fast paced and leaves you bobbing your head to the beats of the music. This has to be one of my absolute favorite soundtracks ever.

Not all of the tracks have lyrics to them, most of the songs are just music, and the tracks that actually have lyrics, well the lyrics kinda take a backseat to the actual music. Most music, the lyrics are right out there with the music in the background, the songs with lyrics are just the opposite, you can hear lyrics in the background and can't really make out what they're saying, it's kind of like a babbling to it, but where you think that it hurts the songs, it actually makes it sound cooler, almost like you're watching the show.

Even after listening to the entire soundtrack, I can still hear the songs, I mean they just stick with you. Probably one of the most addicting songs on the CD has to be the first song which is also the opening song to the show. Another great song has to be Track 3, Musical Play Smiling Rebellious Flower. The end is so cool with the, well I don't know what it's called, I call it the "Death March" with the Church Bells, they usually played it in the old Looney Tunes cartoons when you thought someone died or something sad happened.

Anyway, this is a great soundtrack, if you loved the show you will definetly love this soundtrack because it is so cool and so awesome and will leave you wanting to listen to it over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars love it all!.......2006-10-20

i purchased this cd over 7 months ago and i still love it. the music is butiufly executed and fits well with the series i own alot of anime ost's and i recomend this one!

4 out of 5 stars Impure Souls of the Living Dead Shall be Banished- With Style.......2006-07-26

I'll start off by saying that this isn't a CD for everyone. But then, if you're looking up this page it's probably because you've seen the anime and was hooked, like I was, by the poignant background music.

The sound produced for the Hellsing anime is unlike any I've ever heard before. It's a seamless mashing together of cool, dark blues and jazz that would seem out of place with its sometimes cheerful horn play but manages instead to seem mockingly sarcastic- a splash of musically morbid humor that allows the sound to fit in with the gritty atmosphere while also adding an element of playfulness that lightens the otherwise heavy ambience. Also accomplishing this affect is the addition of a few fun, upbeat grungy rock tracks such as 'When you start the War, fight with arrows spears and swords!'

Added to the mix are energetic rock'n'roll compositions such as 'Fool cross over Nirvana -Grudge Prohibited-' and the thick Gothic edge of Dracula-esque horror movie themes and church organs. Ethereal synth, distorted vocals, and quiet, bass guitar-heavy pieces also get thrown into the blender and to top off the tasty combination Yusushi Ishii also tosses in some seemingly random bits of sound, things like dramatic audio that sounds as if its been ripped from very old black and white movies, complete with an in-and-out fading effect and crackling static noise that gives you the impression of something old and mournfully decaying. These are the kind of tracks that, when listened to alone in the dark on a quiet night can easily best most horror movies in creepiness factor. There's no denying the atmospheres created, be they black and monstrous, or wickedly cool and smooth via tracks like 'World Without Logos'.

The presentation of this CD is top notch as well. Colored in vibrant, if forboding red and blacks the booklet features eye-catching character 'introductions' as well as English credits and lyrics for some of the songs- although, given the giberish that comprises some of these lyrics you might not care to read them at all.

I would like to have given this CD five stars. The music certainly warrants it in my opinion. The one thing exstinguishing that fifth star is a fault that lies with Geneon. Track number 11 'Bodhisattva of Cathedral -featuring Tatsuo Tabei-' was cut in half. This track that begins with a somber, haunting aura dies off for a brief moment before exploding again with ominous guitar that leads into an up-tempo and almost teasingly playful finale. On this CD, however, the song ends after the mellow introduction. I find this highly dissapointing as track eleven is one of my favorites and, having heard it in its entirety it sound woefully incomplete on this soundtrack. While I suppose this could be a defect of the individual copy I have in my possession, I don't think it is. The dissescted track 11 leads smoothly into track 12 without any kind of pause or dead-air lapse in music between tracks to indicate a defect.

Regardless, this CD is otherwise a lovely domestic release significantly less costly than importing, so if you enjoy unconventional music that's a marriage of horror, the darkly cool, and the morosely playful I'd definately suggest picking this up.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD, and thanks, Ecmaster76!.......2006-06-18

Ecmaster76, I am ever-grateful for telling me where I can legally download Shine. I adore that song, and I am so happy I can finally hear the whole thing. BTW, the rest of the CD is awesome too, but I wanted the whole version of Shine.

5 out of 5 stars A must-have.......2005-09-07

If you've seen the anime Hellsing, you already know that one of the best elements of the show is the music. It fits the show perfectly and sets just the right mood. You don't need to be a fan of the show to enjoy this fantastic music, but fans will appreciate it more as it will bring back memories of the show.

Seriously, I won't waste your time with a long-winded review. If you've seen the show, you don't need me to tell you how great this soundtrack is, and if you haven't seen the show, take my word for it and just buy it, along with the first soundtrack, Raid.

5 out of 5 stars No complaints!.......2005-07-29

This is a great CD.

Hellsing, the anime, is good insomuch as Alucard is one of the coolest characters ever. I'm not a hardcore anime freak, and I'm not "into vampires," but Alucard is just... cool! There is no valid argument. However. I'm not reviewing the anime.

This is the second volume of the two volume Hellsing soundtrack, the other CD being Hellsing: Raid. You will not regret it if you buy both!

Hellsing's music is great. Moody, powerful, and, surprisingly *good*. Yeah, it has its weird moments; it's written for a fairly weird program. But the weird parts aren't out of place because they are so smartly intertwined with the mood of the CD. The composer is obviously skilled at his art and has a fantastic knowledge of music and instruments. The songs are expertly composed and say exactly what they mean to say. Good songs are easy to come by. Good CDs aren't. This is a good CD. I'm particularly smitten with the two Hellsing soundtracks because they contain elements of just about every variety of music that's out there. Classic rock, pop, jazz, folk, romantic, classical... just. Everything. If you like a variety of music and are looking for something to express/enhance a powerful/eerie mood, the Hellsing soundtracks are a big win, knowledge or appreciation for the anime not necessary.

5 out of 5 stars Just Plain Good Music.......2005-03-03

Being a hard-core geek means I've listened to quite a few soundtracks, anime and otherwise. And the two Hellsing soundtracks are some of the best I've ever listened too. The reason is that it's just *good* music. Also, you can just enjoy listening to it without thinking...oh yeah...that's when, such and such happened... Well of course you can do that too (it wouldn't be a soundtrack otherwise). But you can enjoy it as good quality music in addition to reliving favorite moments from the series.

4 out of 5 stars This is a weird soundtrack.......2004-12-13

The second of the Hellsing soundtracks and possibly the most bizzar. This cd is perfect for halloween parties and other scary functions and lives up to the fact that it is attached to such a scary but interesting series. I was kinda upset with the version of no logos on this cd. Also this isn't exactly a cd to be played like any other its more like one of those special function cds.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth, Refined, and Exciting.......2003-06-24

Despite the moody, gothic tones of the anime itself, this soundtrack has enough variability and interesting sounds to fit every mood; from throaty, jazzy affairs to darker, sinister works, as well as the oddly-placed light-hearted break here and there. This eclectic mixture perfectly compliments any collection of soundtracks, whether they be of anime or otherwise. In fact, one could say you don't even need to have seen the anime in question to enjoy these sounds; from the first track (the excellent opening theme), you may very well be hooked.

5 out of 5 stars Hunt Down the Excellent Music of the Night.......2003-04-26

Hellsing's stunning visuals and neo-gothic storylines are well-complimented by this soundtrack, the first of two volumes of music from the bloody vampire series.

The disc offers a number of excellent tunes, from the outstanding opening theme to a number of other instrumental and vocal tracks that served as background music throughout the series. The music is often dark and foreboding, carrying well the atmosphere of the series over into audio media.

Note that the disc, though offered at domestic prices, is essentially the same as the import version from Japan, including (as evidenced by the cover photo above) the original art and Japanese-language case and liner notes--so for purists who want only the original Japanese soundtracks to anime, this disc will please at far less than the typical import price.

4 out of 5 stars I have 2 Hellsing soundtracks.......2002-12-26

Raid has Alucard on the cover & the opening(too cool) & closing themes plus a couple other cool instrumentals(one includes the death march which seems to irritate my co-workers who obviously don't find the blend as cool as I do. There's 20 tracks.
Ruins has Integra on the cover, 17 tracks, & I don't play it as much. It has the weird little "previews" jingle.
They're both imports

5 out of 5 stars A must have for all fans.......2002-12-06

This soundtrack is absolutely on my top-10 list. It has a great combination of rock and jazz tracks with a couple of weird instrumental tracks (although those are great too). The mood of the cd is awesome, the main reason I got it in the first place. I can't even begin to describe the effect this cd had on me, it's just that awesome. Get it and hear for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Hellsing - a great CD.......2002-11-04

This was one interesting CD, a combination of instrumental, english and japanese lyrics. You could just see the parts of the anime as you listened to it. The style is not what I am used to listening to but enjoyable nontheless.
