Bono chose to collaborate with a woefully underappreciated Gavin Friday for the soundtrack to this Neil Jordan film, with stunning results. The title track and "Billy Boola" predate the electronic movement in the states by a few years, but manages to sound vital and contemporary by any standards. Herein are the seeds of what U2 would try to reap on their Pop album. The other important original work is Sinead O'Connor's "You Made Me the Thief of Your Heart," written by Bono and Friday. It is one of O'Connor's most satisfying deliveries, and benefits, as does "Billy Boola," from the incomparable Jah Wobble on bass. --Scott Wilson

5 out of 5 stars If you liked the movie, get the soundtrack!.......2004-06-26

I fell in love with Gerry Conlon and his story, especially when theatrically acted out by Daniel Day-Lewis. The soundtrack is just as awesome as the movie. The first track, In the Name of the Father, is so...unsettling. The deep musical riffs just hit you in the heart. Yea, I know, it sounds dumb, yet it's true. I also like the track Whiskey in the Jar. I am very familiar with the original Irish drinking song, and this more upbeat, modern version of it is great, although it doesn't really pertain to the film. Again, I strongly reccomend this to anyone who enjoyed the movie, or if you are into Irish music, this is definetly a must-have for any collection!

4 out of 5 stars EXPOSE PEOPLE TO OTHER RELIGIONS.......2004-02-27

Good soundtrack with some very notable songs. As for the exposure to other religions being good or bad(gerryedwards), I didn't notice, don't care, and am still Catholic after listening to the soundtrack. A message of love, not religion.

4 out of 5 stars Powerful CD.......2004-01-29

Pretty much any time Bono is on a soundtrack, you've got a hit. This is a very powerful CD. Some amazing artists are on this CD from Hendrix to The Kinks to Bob Marley and of course Bono. It's definately a CD you should have in your collection.

4 out of 5 stars It complements the movie, and life well........2003-12-01

Overall a great soundtrack with a bit of most everything. No need to comment on the "Hendrix" and "Bob Marley" songs, they're both classics. The "Kinks" song is probably recognizable to most, and sounds like early "Who" for those that don't know it. "Whiskey In The Jar" is another great one, and recently covered by "Metallica" for those wondering. And the instumentals are all very nice, and add vibe from the film throughout the cd. But the best things here are the opener and closer. The song "In The Name Of The Father" is a great one from "Bono" and "Gavin Friday", and almost as good as "You Made Me The Thief Of Your Heart", sung beautifully by "Sinead O'Connor". It's a very emotional ending, to a wonderful soundtrack, from a great movie.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Soundtracks!! Simply brilliant!.......2003-11-18

The movie is so moving, and with any good movie, the soundtrack plays an important role in the overall success. It underscores the mood the visual is saying and this is a prime example of a mix of old, new and very old, talent and choices that work well to give this film such power and impact.

Bono's dark and driving title cut, is vital, powerful and full of rage, simply perfect to kick off a move full of energy and rage. The soundtrack smartly moves then to using older cuts, like the old Irish pub fav Whiskey in the Jar, the marvellous Ray Davies' poke at English Carnaby era Dedicated Follower of Fashion, and Hendrix's Voodoo Child and Is this Love by Bob Marley. Finishing up with Sinead O' Connor poignant and haunting You Made Me The Thief of Your Heart....well it just does not get any better than this!
