Jungle Book 2 [Enhanced] [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Depending on how wild you are about the movie, the soundtrack to Disney's The Jungle Book 2 will leave you shimmying in your safari boots or feeling a smidge shortchanged. Musically, Mowgli and his pals put most of their peers in the G-rated soundtrack genre to shame: Smash Mouth smoothes the old-timey dents out of the classic "I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song)"; John Goodman (the voice of Baloo) takes a joyride through the Brian Setzer-like "W-I-L-D," proving along the way one needn't be svelte to swing; Haley Joel Osment (the voice of Mowgli) adheres to his wholesome persona for a straightforward remake of "The Bare Necessities"; and Windy Wagner breathes a not unbearable amount of melancholy into "Right Where I Belong." But tracks 9 through 12 were lifted off an earlier release, Wild Safari Sing-Along. Still, while one may scoff at the filler, if it's a rollicking rumble in the jungle that's sought, one will come away from this collection accusing the producers of monkeying around. --Tammy La Gorce

At the height of Beatlemania, the Disney folks were teaching kids how to really swing with this soundtrack to their adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. Of course, it's Phil Harris (the voice of everyone's favorite hipster bear Baloo) who steals the show with the original slacker anthem, "The Bare Necessities," but his scat match with an inspired Louis Prima on "I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song)" is also not to be missed. Songwriters Richard and Robert Sherman--who clearly enjoyed playing the irony card on songs like "Trust in Me (The Python's Song)" and "That's What Friends Are For" (The Vulture Song)"--offer entertaining reminiscences about the project in a 12-minute bonus track. George Bruns's wonderful underscore, a couple early song demos, and two post-soundtrack Baloo numbers round out a collection that suggests, in the most charming way imaginable, that it really is a jungle out there. --Bill Forman

Jungle Book .......2007-01-10
This music does not include the lyrics from the animated movie. A disappointment. Whats the point of this album if you can't sing along to the tunes?
this favorite lives on.......2006-08-31
This was my favorite movie and now it is my son's. This CD is the musical sound track so it has background music. Sometimes my son wants to listen to it (he know's the scene sequence pretty well) and sometimes just the big hits. The CD has allowed me to redirect the Jungle Book demand/chant from movie to music and we can avoid getting plugged into the TV all day. The interview at the end is pretty interesting too.
One of life's bare necessities!.......2006-04-04
As much as I try to think of one, I can't picture a more fun Disney soundtrack than "Jungle Book". As a matter of fact, it's even hard to think of a happier soundtrack altogether. And the truth is, the music is so much at the heart of this amazingly fun Disney classic, that they are almost one and the same. There's no listening to the songs in here, without jumping up and down like Baloo, Mowgli and Bagheera. It is a highly recommendable album and movie combo, indeed one of those "bare necessities"! :)

Good but not very........2005-12-29
Finally, I bought this soundtrack several days ago. But I was a little disappointed because it was not so good as my anticipation.
When I watched this movie, the song "Jungle Rhythm" was my favourite. But when I listened to this song in the soundtrack, I felt that it was a little noisy and confuse. The lead vocals were not so clear. I don't like the song "Colonel Hathi's March" at all in this album, in fact, I didn't like this song at the beginning when I watched the movie "The Jungle Book". My favourite song in this album was not from the movie, it was "I've Got You Beat". I love the two children's vocal in this song, and I thought this song was the real JUNGLE RHYTHM! "Right Where I Belong" and "Braver" were wonderful, I loved the girl's vocal, and I felt warm inside when I listened to these two songs. There were 3 humorous songs which I loved very much, "He's a Lucky, Lucky Snake" "The Elephant's Face" and "Never Smile at a Crocodile", they always make me laugh! And "W-I-L-D" and "Queen of the Jungle" were wonderful too.
Generally speaking, except the song "I Wanna Be Like You" and "The Bare Necessities " which were sung in different ways, every song in this album was worth listening to!
Good!.......2004-07-09
This is a good soundtrack.I think it's better than the soundtrack of The Jungle Book-1.And"The jungle rhythm"is my favourite song in this soundtrack.
jugnle.......2003-03-13
I liked the songs the back ground music was realy fun my favorite was the "jungle rythm" song it is realy fun, but if your one of those folks who like the old stuff then you probobaly wont like it, there was only one song that I didn't care for and that was "w-i-l-d"
so take it or leave it.
Jungle Book 2 Soundtrack a HIT.......2003-03-12
My children are ages 5 & 3. They LOVE the soundtrack that is upbeat and fun. Other Disney soundtrack's are too slow for my boys who love rock and roll.
The movie was as fun for me as it was for them. I found this to be a great follow up project for children.
If you want thought provoking and intellectual entertainment this is NOT the movie for you. If you long for a feel good soundtrack and movie, that doesn't make you squirm as a parent then see and buy Jungle Book 2.
Really dissapointed!!!!.......2003-02-25
SMASH MOUTH?????????????????????
What is this? I can remember being a kid and the most memorable part of the movie was the monkey song!
Then in my early adult life BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY reinvented it - it was a fantastic version of the original.
So then Disney gets an opportunity to "return to the jungle"
I could not wait to see what they are going to do with the monkies!!! Again see the title of my review....
I was hoping that they could have written a whole new song for the monkies. No In my opinion, they did the worst case scenario. They revamped the old song with a [mediocre] performer.
PITIFUL

Just what you'd expect.......2007-05-23
This CD is a must-purchase if you're looking for the sweeping musical excerpts and light, jovial melodies from the movie. However, the inclusion of the Kenny Loggins song that has very little to do with the movie is a cheesy marketing ploy. It's not a bad song, but it's not a song one must hear. I recommend this purchase if you want to add these cues to your soundtrack collection, but not otherwise.
An undiscovered gem..........2006-09-04
I've searched countless times for information on Basil Pouledouris and this score. Unfortunately when I found information, all of the scores that were deemed his "best" excluded this one. It's quite a shame. His score for, "The Jungle Book" is absolutely breathtaking, adventurous, romantic and epic for a Disney movie. It just doesn't seem disney like. This score captivated my attention back in '94 when I was about five or six. As good as all the other Disney soundtracks are, this one, along with the Hans Zimmer's work in, "The Lion King" are on another level. Which I thinks is even better. It connects you on a deeper level with the characters and the atmosphere. I get chills when I hear the theme main titles/the caravan. And, I feel the magic of love when I hear, "Kitty." Every single track has minor themes to keep it exciting. The themes are playful such as in, "Monkey City", or grandiose as in, "Treasure Room, or "Spoils." The "Finale" delivers the love theme and mowgli's theme in an intelligent, sweeping, magical way. For anyone who already owns this, and can review this in a more eloquent way, please do so. More people need to hear this beautiful score.

Customer Reviews:
Re-recording, not from the original soundtrack, but still perfect........2005-11-14
Despite the obviously unintentionally misleading info to the contrary on this amazon.com page, this CD recording is NOT from the original soundtrack of the 1940 film, The Thief of Bagdad, but a re-recording in stereo of selected parts of the score, played by the Nurnburger Symphoniker in Germany in 1983. Oddly, although both the CD insert and the CD label correctly credit Miklos Roszsa as the composer, they also state that the music is conducted by both Miklos Rozsa and Klauspeter Seibel. Well, whoever did the conducting in 1983, don't let that put you off buying this superb CD. It's marvellously and spectaculary arranged and performed, with Rozsa's love theme, here entitled Eternal Love, filling your room (or your headphones) with what many consider to be Rozsa's most beautiful melody of all his many compositions. The original soundtrack version can, of course, be heard on the VHS video of the film, or on the recently released DVD. Five Stars for this VD version of parts of the score. David Rayner in Stoke on Trent, England, UK.

Amazon.com essential recording
Fittingly to the jungle theme, the songs on The Jungle Book soundtrack (1967) are absolutely wild. "The Bare Necessities" and "I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song)" are highlights, and neo-swing talisman Louis Prima goes ape in the role of King Louie. This record stylishly marks the end of an era; the film was the Disney studio's last animated musical before Walt Disney's death and the long period of mediocrity that stretched all the way to The Little Mermaid in 1989. As a special treat to Disney collectors, the CD release includes demo recordings, songs that weren't used in the film, and an interview with the Sherman brothers songwriting team. --John Sanchez
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Soundtrack!.......2006-12-30
Brilliant soundtrack of a brilliant animated film, with additional tracks - interview with authors of most songs (among the vocal tracks, only "The Bare Necessities" was written by Terry Gilkyson; all other tracks are by the Sherman brothers), two additional songs by Baloo (hip and swinging entertainer Phil Harris) and two demo-versions of Gilkyson's songs written for the initial idea - serious version of the Kipling's often sombre collonial book.
Of course, Louis Prima is the real king with his "I wan'na be like you" romp (assisted by Harris and others), but Sterling Holloway is brilliant snake in "Trust in me", whereas the barber shop vultures in "That's What Friends are for" ("we're your friend untill the bitter end"...) are a riot.
Oh, yes and beware: the info on singers on each track on this site is quite mixed up. O'Malley sings only on two versions of Colonel Hathi's March, etc.
Downside........2005-02-02
I bought this thinking it was a redo of the one so long ago. The one I remember only had four songs on it: Bear Necessities, Trust In Me, The Elephant March, and I Wanna Be Like You. Bear Necessities was an extra long song, and Trust In Me was this nightclubbish, jazz piece that was more provocative than done in the movie. Basically, it was the songs done in a serious manner. Or an attempt to do them in a serious manner. The current soundtrack is good and rather informative, but I felt cheated and that I had wasted ten bucks.
JB.......1999-08-10
This cd gives great music and really sets your mind to look on the bright side of things!
This is a really cool soundtrack........1999-01-27
I really like all of the marching songs on the soundtrack(when the elephants are marching). I also like the instrumental stuff on it.
