It might seem odd for Cast Away to be prominently featured on this retrospective soundtrack. First off, the film's score is heard only in the final third of the film. But Alan Silvestri's seven-minute end-credit track is a beautiful theme for the film and works as a stand-alone: it won a Grammy for best instrumental composition. The nine other cuts trace the music that composer Silvestri has created for director Robert Zemeckis, and theirs is one of the prolific collaborations in American cinema. Presented in chronological order, the album starts with the rousing themes of Romancing the Stone and Back to the Future. All the cuts are available on their respective soundtrack CDs (the first and last track being the exceptions), and a few are on Silvestri's other retrospective album, Voyages. Yet this CD shows the range of the composer and director, from the Hitchcockian take for What Lies Beneath to the slow-building fanfare of Forrest Gump, which marks Silvestri's only Oscar®-nominated score. --Doug Thomas

Customer Reviews:
Release the movie score........2006-07-10
The score to Cast Away is one of my favorites - right up there with Ennio Morricone's underrated instrumentals for "Once Upon a Time in America" - and it's a real shame that, apparently, the only album with music from the film is this compilation disc which doesn't even feature the full soundtrack. Luckily I got my hands on an Academy Awards advance album preview for Cast Away - the CD that Universal sent to the Academy Awards crew for Oscar consideration - and it has six beautiful tracks. But I know there are more out there and I think it's time the full soundtrack was released.
Rebuttal.......2005-12-01
I am simply amazed - both by the Cast Away credits score and the depth of ignorance of some of the past "reviewers." I'm glad that Cast Away's soundtrack even made it onto an album at all. It is plainly obvious to anyone who watched the movie that the soundtrack only exists in the last bit, with the credits providing multiple variations on the theme. The "music industry" had nothing to do with the album's content - there's simply not enough there to justify a dedicated album. What do you want, a techno-remix?
The "trip to the ocean" provides a crucial part of what makes the score (and the movie) so compelling. If you're bored by the waves crashing, go watch the movie again so you can remember the context of the credits music. This movie is an example of the brilliant acting of Tom Hanks. How many movies could get you choked up over a volleyball? I contend that the soundtrack is so sparse because the rest of the film stands on its own. The credits music reminds us of this with the waves crashing and the thin, yet powerful, orchestration.
If you're at all confused by the cover, please read the listings and the (useful) reviews. Don't buy anything uninformed, because then it's your own fault when things don't measure up.
(Anyone else notice that Cinderella Man promos are using the theme from Cast Away?)

Reseña de los tracks:
2. Theme - Back to the Future, 4. Suite - Back to the Future, Part II, 5.
6. End Credits - Death Becomes Her, 7. Suite - Forrest Gump, 8. End Credits - Contact, 9.
No no no. Impresionante, simplemente impresionante. 1000/5
Buyers Remorse.......2004-01-24
A regular Amazon shopper, I couldn't have been more disapointed when I opened the box to find that this was not the awesome score from Cast Away. The picture and title are just misleading. You shouldn't have to read the fine print when buying a CD. I wouldn't have purchased if I knew this was not the music from Cast Away.
The musics not far off perfect it's just too short.......2003-07-24
I liked the music on this record as the music from the film is very pituresque it just seemed that it perhaps went to try and get too close to the prospect of been sranded on this desrted island like when theres the section with the waves on this disc you just wish it would shut up really and get back to the music, theres nothing wrong with waves just cut it down a little. They could really do with making the music longer on these discs taken from films as this genre of music in general is long and this is a good reflection on a long record but it's cut short, why?. Another thing is that if you want to buy the music from the castaway film alone you cant do that as you get back to the future and everything in this, this record just seemed to condescend and was a real let down
