Amazing and Beautiful.......2006-07-29
Nobuo Uetmatsu has impressed me once more with this album. Aki Kuroda plays the pieces beautifully, and Masashi Hamauzu has done a fine job of arranging the album. Each track on the album is worth at least one listen, if not more. It's safe to say that most of the tracks are masterpieces. Go buy a used/new copy; you need to get this amazing album.
Here's my own interpretation of the song titles:
1. To Zanarkand
2. Tidus's Theme
3. Besaid Island
4. Hymn of the Fayth/(lit.) Song of Prayer
5. The Travel Agency
6. Rikku's Theme
7. Guadosalam
8. Assault
9. Via Purifico/The Way of Purgation
10. Isn't It Wonderful?
11. Yuna's Decision
12. The People of the North Pole
13. Final Battle
14. Ending Theme
Hope this helped! And I hope you enjoy the album!

Amazing piano collections!.......2004-06-15
These piano arrangements are beyond extraordinary in quality and beauty. Masashi Hamauzu does a great job of making these arrangements shimmer in the first truly pianistic Final Fantasy Piano Collection. It is in this collection that there exists a piece called "Bisaido shima", or "Besaid Island", which is so beautiful that words cannot describe it. It brings an insouciance to the listener with its flowing perfection. The piece is basically the original with greater speed, and it is pulled off magnificently.
The rest of the album follows suit in excellence. This CD is a great addition to any library of music.
A Wonderful Collection.......2003-03-17
This collection does nothing but improve these clasic Final Fantasy X songs. It takes such songs as 'Tidus's Theme' and 'Attack' and gives them a new feel and sound. Both become more gentle due to the the wonderful piano. 'Besaid Island' sounds very different at first and is probably the most transformed. Songs such as 'To Zanarkand' and 'The Path of Atonement' song a lot like there origins (because they were originally piano tracks), however there is enough of a difference, to make them feel like an all new track.
A bit different from previous piano collections.......2002-10-29
I like this CD, mostly, because many of the pieces are atypical Final Fantasy piano tracks. Since Nobuo Uematsu is now partnered with two other artists, there is a wider variety of styles.
To Zanarkand was great on the OST, and is still great. However it continues on longer, and a bit of improv is implemented, which makes the song louder but not neccessarily better. However, the song is still great.
Tidus' Theme, arranged for Piano plays out very well. Still that slow and calm song that it was on the OST.
Comparing Bisaido Island to the original song on the Final Fantasy X OST, I found that they're very different. The song has been converted from 4/4 to 12/8, and the arrangement is pure genius. The song itself is very beautiful.
Song of Prayer is a somewhat boring song that shouldn't have been arranged for the piano. On the OST Song of Prayer appears several times as people singing in various tones/clefs. On the piano it is very slow and doesn't have nearly the same powerful or beautiful effect.
Traveling Company appears to be another song that really doesn't go anywhere.
Rikku's theme, however, is a bright and lively song with a nice melody that had me humming the tune for several days.
Guadsalam is a strange song that in no way resembles its original. The original was nothing but percussion and seemingly random musical notes. However the piano version is an improvement over the original, implementing somewhat of a melody, but even at that not the best track on the album.
Thunder Plateau, no longer at a tempo that matches the tick-tock of a clock, is still a great song. Repetitive in a good way, and very bright.
Attack, apparently another song written by Masashi Hamauzu, who seems to produce the best work out of the album, also sounds not so like its original. Switching from 4/4 to 3/4, the song starts out relaxed and lighthearted and suddenly turns a bit more dark and climactic. The chords on this song filled with mostly 8th notes, seem spaced in a way to make the music "cry out" at certain points.
Via Purifico aka Path of Repentance and its repeating triplets is a very beautiful and flowing song
Suteki da Ne is very good and retains the same beauty of the original.
Yuna's Determination is a very lighthearted song of 3/4. Not much to say about it other than it's a nice song.
People of the North Pole is a great song that shifts from soft notes to powerful chords to a short melody and back to the powerful chords again. A very beautiful song.
Decisive Battle is a great and chaotic song. Very long and very complex, it is a perfect theme for a final and dramatic showdown between good and evil.
The Ending Theme is a bittersweet song that combines previous themes. Nevertheless it ends the album in a wonderful way.

Probably the worst of Uematsu's Piano Soundtracks.......2005-08-23
I liked this CD a lot; I really did. But after listening to a number of other albums by Uematsu, such as Final Fantasy 7's & 9's piano soundtracks, this album is like listening to a 6th grade piano recital. There are some good songs, played simply, and even effectively, but most of it is just amaturish.
Tracks 1-4, 8&9, & 11 & 13 are all very nice songs to listen to, but if you really want to experience this music properly get Final Fantasy IV: Celtic Moon instead. Nearly every one of these songs is played on that album and done with much more professionalism and expertise than that of this album. Plus, Celtic music is just pretty in and of itself.
Great selection!.......2004-09-20
This album has some great piano arrangements on it like Theme of love one of my fav's, rydia, troian beauty another fav, welcome to our town, and melody of lute. Not to mention the prelude which is a great intro song! I thought to be good, but maybe not as good as others like FFVI piano collections. Anyways you'll still enjoy this one

Well, really it's about three-and-a-half.......2007-04-15
I hadn't bought any Final Fantasy music for a fair while, and had been contemplating buying this. Eventually, I came through and bought it. It turned out so-so. It has only thirteen tracks, and the total time is not as impressive as it could be. These thirteen tracks contain some very impressive, excellent FFVII material, but then there are the drawbacks.
Tracks 4 and 8 are utterly dull, and so were their originals. I think these should have been left out of this collection, and substituted with such songs as the "Opening/Bombing Mission" or "Those Who Fight Further."
That aside, these are usually very enjoyable pieces. Sometimes they don't retain enough of the original song, as is the case with "J-E-N-O-V-A," but I don't count this as much.
The main piece a lot of people probably wonder about is "One-Winged Angel." Well, it still dominates! It is played at a rather slow tempo, which leaves one wondering what it's like at full speed, but it is still grandioso and evil, especially at the end. It sounds almost like a full orchestea and choir with its power and malevolence!
This collection is worth what it costs, but it certainly has drawbacks. I would still recommend buying it as a Final Fantasy devotee.

Better than Original..........2006-03-25
Ever since I played Final Fantasy IX, I've wanted to buy a soundtrack of it. I thought of buying the Original Soundtrack, but it cost more than $25, and i didn't have that much money. So I decided on this CD and it was worth it. Most of the songs on this CD are even better than the originals, and I wasn't going to listen to most of the songs on the original so... It's worth every penny.
Best Piano Soundtrack Uematsu's written.......2005-08-23
I almost wonder if I've been listening to the same album as 'elwen'.
You're Not Alone was one of the highlights of this album in my opinion. I understand the comments of "sounds like two songs being played at the same time: a simple melody line, and a bunch of staccato notes and chords..." but I thought they added to the musical experience, and that only plays in that manner for the first minute or so, before becoming a much more complicated and sophisticated song. Though it does return to that first section of melody a little later, it doesn't dwell on it before coming the fuller, louder melody that is what sticks in my head when I think of this song.
... Also Vama Alla Flamenco is AKA Chocobo Hot & Cold, and was only played during that mini-game, not during a sword fight.
I loved this album to death. In my opinion it's the very best piano soundtrack Uematsu has written. FFIV & FFVI's piano soundtracks sound very amaturish compared to the compilations included in the piano soundtracks for Final Fantasy 7 & 9.
While Uematsu has yet to write anything to the degree of say, Beethoven's third movement of Moonlight Sonata, this CD contains a number of quite powerful piano arrangements.
Melodies of Life is one such example. It is by far the most beautiful piano song (aside from FF7's Aerith's Theme) Uematsu has released.
Other noteworthy songs on this CD include: Place I'll Return to Someday, Sleepless City Treno, and Loss of Me.
I would recomend this album to anyone who likes listening to piano music, and I can promise you that this music will stick in your head, if not by technical merrit, then certainly on it's beauty.
A Must Have For Music Fans!.......2003-03-19
This piano collection is great! All of the songs sound just as good or better, then on original soundtrack. I ordered the Final Fantasy IX original soundtrack a year or so ago, and it took me a while to get used to all the music. But now I love every track! So when I learned that there was a piano collection, I knew I had to get it. It may cost a lot of cash for only 14 tracks, believe me, it's worth it. There is almost an honor of music on this great cd!
Only because Final Fantasy is always the best..........2002-03-08
...can I justify giving this CD four stars instead of five. The problem is that it simply doesn't live up to the previous piano collections like FFVI and FFVIII. And believe me, I know these songs inside and out: I listen to them and then I learn them from the sheet music.
The first problem with these songs is the simplicity. There are a lot more sections when you are just hearing one or two notes played together and rather disjointedly at that. There aren't as many blocked and broken chords that add depth to the songs beyond their melodies. Of course, there are exceptions. Eternal Harvest in particular is complex and even more exciting than the original.
That leads us to the second problem I found in this CD. Usually the piano arrangements of songs are comparable to the original, or they provide some different perspective to the song. In my opinion, the original soundtrack of Final Fantasy IX is one of the best of any video game out there, so I had high expectations for the piano collection as well. Unfortunately, in many cases the original songs are plainly better. Again, there are exceptions. Vamo' Alla Flamenco is amazing at capturing the mood of the lively sword fight to which it was played in the game.
The last complaint I have is that there are so many dischordant and jarring places in the pieces. One song, You're Not Alone, sounds like two songs being played at the same time: a simple melody line, and a bunch of staccato notes and chords that do nothing to add to the music.
All considered, I suppose it's still somewhat unfair for me to rate this CD a four. The key here is relativity. While I would probably recommend this collection more than I might recommend some CDs I would give fives, I would even more highly recommend the previous piano collections from the Final Fantasy series. All the same, if you're looking for the nostalgic, distinctive mood of Final Fantasy IX, this CD still fits the bill.
Great musical CD..must have!!.......2001-08-02
I love this CD..It's better than FFVIII piano collection. The music expresses more sense of adventurous and give you feeling of the game although it's not an original soundtrack. The CD comes with a sheet music of "melodies of life"..All I can say is, this CD is the one that I can't miss to have it in my collection. It's worth buying!!

Wonderful.......2004-11-18
I loved the compositions from the game and I think Nobuo Uematsu is a great composer, fitting perfect music for perfect environments.
However, I could not abide the repetative synthesised instruments that accompanied the music on most occasions. I recently bought the original FF8, thinking they perhaps implemented real instruments..but no luck.
Then I saw this! Absolutely amazing... A single pianist plays 13 of the greatest FF8 tracks, with clever re-arrangements, you can listen to this, fully imersed in the Final Fantasy atmosphere. My highlight must be the card game theme, shuffle or boogie...an excellent take on the 12 bar blues. Anyway, yes, buy this! Also you get it in Japanese packaging...which is always good, for some bizarre reason the have a little plastic see-though sheath which the real case goes in...lovely.
Beautiul music (and I hate the game too..).......2004-11-14
Yes, I'm one of those people who hate FF8. Having said that, I heard a friend play this music one time, and not being that familiar with the music, I was intrigued. He told me what it was and after listening to 2 tracks, I bought the album. And it's nothing short of GREAT. The composer is a genius, and I'm now thingking about getting all the Piano Collections. It's a shame not many people know that game music is as beautiful as this.
Amazing.......2004-04-17
This album is terrific. I admire all the songs on here. This is probably a must buy CD for those who like the game Final Fantasy VIII and piano like songish...not sure if that's a word, but yeah.
Excellent arrangement of old favorites.......2004-01-06
Quite simply, this is some of the most relaxing piano music that I have heard in a long time. This cd takes music from the game that is related to love, exploration and ambience, and arranges it in piano form. No fast-paced battle music on this cd(which would be pretty hard to turn into piano anyway, so I'm not complaining).
Some of my favorites are AMI(which includes the Balamb Garden theme), The Oath, Succession of Witches, and Find Your Way. All of them work very well as piano arrangements while still keeping the feel of the original. Every piece on this cd is good, though I question the descision that put a ragtime piece in as the last song. It just doesn't fit with the rest of the cd. And I don't think that the Triple Triad theme(Shuffle or Boogie) needed to be arranged(can we please all just pretend that the game never existed?).
The game itself wasn't that great. But this cd is. A tad expensive, but if you like piano music, this is an excellent cd. Very good for playing while reading, doing homework, etc.
Great.......2003-08-08
This is one of my favorite CDs to listen to while reading. While many fans of the Final Fantasy series of games might wish that the game never existed, the music from it makes everything cool. My favorite tracks on this album are Blue Fields, the world map music, and Fisherman's Horizon. A great CD to have in the background gives the room an atmoshphereic feel.

Great collection!.......2004-06-24
Wow Uematsu is just great! This album has some great pieces like tenderness in the air, lenna's theme, a presentiment, ahead on our way and music box. Brings back great memories when i use to play the game often! Great album if you like Uematsu's music and the game itself.
no big whoop.......2004-02-23
The music of Final Fantasy IV is something that brings back fond memories of saving the world, and so I was delighted to find that they ACTUALLY HAD a piano version of this soundtrack! And then I listened to it... and said to myself, "Hmmmmm. Nothing too exciting here." For die-hard Uematsu fans, or piano music fanatics, it isn't bad. But it doesn't capture the same magic, the same nostalgia that the original sound version does. Uematsu's other, and consequently later, piano works are very, VERY cool. FFIV is something you'll never catch me requesting to hear.
Why hasn't anyone else done a revieuw on this!?.......2002-02-03
I'm big fan of Nobou Uematsu, as alot of you out there are, cos let face it, the man is a genius! This cd is just another example of his brilliance, very nicely done, especially if you've played the game, if not, you'll still like it, cos it has the Final Fantasy Feel to it, wich al;ways makes for some nice music. Fav track is the Prologue, wich is just beautiful! i loved this track since the first time i heard it in midi form, but played on a piano is just fantastic! you have to get this if!
