One of the romp's chief joys is having eight of modern French cinema's most accomplished actresses take their turns in elaborately staged song and dance numbers, performances that compose this soundtrack's first half. Those showcases range from Ludivine Sagnier's loopy, '60s a-go-go take on "Papa T'es Plus dans L'Coup" through Fanny Ardant's breezy Parisian jazz, Isabelle Huppert's world-weary "Message Personnel," and Catherine Deneuve's tango-tinged "Toi Jamais." The songs are on this CD are sung by each actress, more or less establishing her take on her position in the world. Some of the songs are very clever. A must for the fans of the movie.

If you are considering buying this cd, it's probably because you saw the movie and enjoyed the music. You will not be disappointed. For me, the musical numbers were by far the best part of the film. From the bouncy "Mon amour mon ami," to the sultry "A Quoi Sert De Vivre Libre," to the heart-breaking "Pour Ne Pas Vivre Seul" the songs are all worth listening to again and again. Honestly, I haven't listened much to the non-vocal parts of the cd, but the vocal parts alone make it worth buying.
