Kikujiro (1999 Film) [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Tough-guy Kikujiro is an unlikely candidate to take a sensitive 8-year-old boy Masac on a quest to find the mother he's never met. But they're off on a trek through contemporary Japan, where they encounter an odd assortment of offbeat characters. The wandering duo's adventure take them on a madcap tour of the Japanese countryside - from the races to an abandoned high-class hotel, to a gangster-infested carnival. Kikujiro is about children's games, and how they make us see exactly what went wrong in our own lives. This film features an original score composed by leading prolific Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi (Princess Mononoke).

Customer Reviews:
A great OST.......2007-01-13
Although the movie is a little expensive, the OST is rather affordable, and the Joe Hisaishi music is always worth of hearing, maybe a little repetitive on "Summer" melody, but aside of that, it's a very good CD for thos who love calm and peaceful music.
Hard to find item.......2006-03-13
This was a hard-to-find item and I'm very happy that Amazon dot com had it. I paid for very expedient delivery, however it did not reach me for three days. But that's understandable for I ordered it on a Friday. The CD I ordered was in great condition and I am very happy with Amazon's service. I will be ordering from them again in the future.
current favorite.......2005-10-18
I saw the movie several years ago and remembered the beautiful soundtrack (I usually never notice those kinds of details) but forgot about it -- till recently a friend just watched the movie and it reminded me to get the soundtrack. I have been listening to it non-stop since - and now my husband is hooked too! Listening to it makes me so happy and lighthearted, changes my outlook even if I'm grumpy. Makes me hopeful and want to dance in the sunshine. If you love beautiful music that stirs something deep within, while keeping things light -- get this CD, I can't rave enough about it.
Plain and Excellent.......2005-09-11
When I first watched the movie I was deeply moved, not by the story or the acting (although it was also very good), but by the music. This soundtrack is probably Hisaishi's best, and that's really saying a lot! Hisaishi is my favorite living composer, but this is his only sountrack that seriously gives me chills when I listen to it. It's a must-have for any Hisaishi fan, and a very good investment for the classical music appreciator. Be sure to listen to Amazon's thirty second song clips or watch the movie if you're unsure.
Variations on Kikujiro Themes.......2005-08-31
Excellent choice for those wishing to relive the Kikujiro movie experience. The CD tracks are variations on two musical themes appearing throughout the movie. At first disappointed with the lack of variety, I changed opinion after a third listen when I found myself enjoying the subtle differences of each track. Short on variety, but very good quality.

not the best.......2002-06-12
This has some good selections but really doesn't have the best because it is so subjective. i certainly got bored with many of the pieces they selected in the group, while others had my foot stomping. i recommend getting the original stuff anyways.
"must have compilation for film buffs".......2000-11-24
Milan Records celebrates the history of popular cinema with a 2-CD anthology of the music that drove the most affectionately remembered films of the modern cinematic era. These indelible musical impressions come courtesy of the most renowned film score composers of our time - Maurice Jarre, Max Steiner, Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Ennio Morricone, Bernard Herrmann, Randy Edelman and Henry Mancini.
Released into two general categories, the album presents moments from films of "Love, Passion & Comedy", on disc one - gives us the most powerful classic love themes from "WEST SIDE STORY", "DR. ZHIVAGO" and "LOVE STORY", and features newer classics from "TITANIC", "THE TRUMAN SHOW", "UNCHAINED MELODY" and on the lighter side "A FISH CALLED WANDA", "BENNY & JOON" and one of the most familiar themes ever written "THE PINK PANTHER" from legendary icon Henry Mancini.
On disc two "ACTION, ADVENTURE & SUSPENSE", includes themes from Alfred Hitchcock's landmark films "NORTH BY NORTHWEST" and the absolutely unforgettable "PSYCHO" finale...then the greatest action hero of all time leads off with Monty Norman's "JAMES BOND THEME", and action cues from "BACKDRAFT" and "SPEED"...next up the Academy Award winning theme from "THE LAST EMPEROR" and "GETTYSBURG" main title, one of the best-selling score CD's of all time.
A must have for "movie-music" collectors and film buffs, including music lovers and anyone who really enjoys a little nostalgia now and then...thank you Milan for this trip down memory lane and the amazing legacy of 20th Century Cinema!
Total Time: Disc One 54:30 on 16 Tracks & Disc Two 52:30 on 15 Tracks...Milan Records 35925...(2000)

Nice experiment from Takeshi.......2000-06-30
Pretty interesting film. If you've seen Beat Takeshi's films then you'll want to give this one a try. It's not as mesmerizing as Hana-bi but Beat was trying something new and I believe he did a fairly good job. The sound track gives the movie it's emotion and it's really touching. My only gripe is that the entire soundtrack is composed of slight variations of the same song (theme song).
